We don't post here very often but with our dear friend Cathy who was a huge part of this blog early on passing away earlier this week, we think it is only fitting to pay tribute to her here. Cathy forever touched our hearts and our souls and she will be sorely missed...

I justs wants to tells you alls dat I is moving to a new blog. Da new blog be's called The Wobbly Cat. Why is I moving you mays ask? I is moving cause as me's story grows it be's about so muchie mores dan just me's. Da new bloggie unlike dis one has been sets up so dat we's can shares more with you about special needs animals and da therapies, services etc used to treats dem. Der will also be's more people writting for da new bloggie so dat we's can bring you even more stories, information etc., from multiple perspectives. Of course we has one day sets asides on da new bloggie to shares all da latest information abouts me. It be's called "Moki Monday." With dat said, I hopie dat you's will stops by da new bloggie and subscribes to me's new RSS feed. I looks forward to seeing you's all there!

General Update On Moki

It's been awhile since we last updated Moki's blog. So we thought we'd start by sharing some video's of Moki to help give everyone an a better idea of were Moki is at and what he has been up to.

This first video was shot of Moki wearing a vest which was just recently purchased for him from Scout's House. The vest was purchased so that we could work with Moki some more and get him to start walking on tile. By the time this video was shot Moki had already walked around the kitchen three times with assistance provided by the vest. It then occurred to us to try putting Moki's chute on the tile floor to see if we could get him to walk through the chute...

This next video was recorded last Friday and shows how far Moki has come with his physical rehab. As of last week Moki is now up to doing a whole 6 minutes at a time on the water threadmill...

And finally, this last video just shows Moki enjoying some play time and his life in general...

It's been awhile since our last post and a lot has happened. The biggest of which was having to put Moki's physical therapy and acupoky on hold after some meanie stole de catalytic converter off of mommy's truck during de middle of de night while her truck was parked in front of her house.

Fortunately while de bad guys may have gotten de truck part, de good guys came to de rescue so that we's were able to order a new replacement part which was berry expensive, and begin de process of getting de truck back on de roads so that I can returns to my physical therapy and acupoky.

Thus with that said, mommy and I would like to thank de good guys:

De's be the pictures from my second acupoky appointment.

De appointment went's berry well...

I did's meow and thoughts about putting de bitey on my's mommy a time or two, but that be because de doctor hits some trigger points in me's front legs...

For those unfamiliar with trigger points dey be's kind of like hitting a knot in your muscles which can be's berry painful but once de knot is released you's feel so muchie better...

I felt muchie better after my trigger points released and me's front leggies weren't as stiff...

A Chipin Account For Danielle's Cancer Fund

Hi Everyone. This is Danielle. Danielle is being fostered by Moki's physical rehab therapist at Scout's House, Debbie. Danielle was rescued by the Bay Area Rescue Keeshonden. She was in pretty bad shape when they rescued her and they thought that she had a foxtail stuck in her nose but it turned out that it was actually a tumor. Debbie, Danielle and the Bay Area Rescue Keeshonden could really use some help covering Danielle's medical cost so I have set up a Chipin account for them. If you can Chipin even a dollar that would be fantastic.

My First Acupoky Appointment....

Me's had my first acupoky treatment last Thursday. De treatment wents really well and I no minds de needles at all...

De doctor who practices both Eastern and Western medicine says I needs to start with a total of 5 sessions spaced 5 to 10 days apart...

De doctor has treated lots and lots of animals with neurological conditions like me and she says that she has always seen improvement when acupoky has been used.

So we's be keeping our fingers crossed that acupoky will help me lots and lots...

My, my it certainly has been awhile since our last posting. Time just seems to have a way of getting away from us... With the end of the school quarter here and work slowing down however, mom is finally starting to get somewhat of a reprieve...and with that she has finally gotten a chance to update my bloggie...

So were did we leave off? Oh ya, my physical rehab treatments...

My physical rehab treatments at Scout's House have continued to go well. So well in fact that come Friday of every week I look forward to going and seeing all the wonderful people at Scout's House. Put me in the car any other day of the week and we are bound to start out our car ride with a bit of meowing, put me in the car on a Friday however, and I'll just pur and pur the whole trip until finally I pur myself to sleep...

During my most recent visit to Scout's House, we did a little bit of exercise on the land threadmill as is shown in the photo's above...

and then did some more neuromuscular electrical stimulation, or e-stim. (Shown in the photo with me wearing my sweater.) The e-stim has been helping me a lot along with all the manual exercises and low level laser therapies...

Overall my treatments at Scout's House have been amazing thanks in a large part to my very wonderful therapist Debbie. Unfortunately Debbie is very sads. She has a doggie who is very sicks with a form of inoperable cancer. It is Debbie's hope, her wish, that her doggie lives long enough to see one last amazing Christmas...

Now I knows first hand de power of de pur, and how it has helped me numerous times in de past, so I is asking everyone to please pur for Debbie's doggie. Physical Rehab For Animals: Scout's House Appointment 3 - 10/16/10

First off I would like to apoligize for my mom getting my physical rehab session photo's up so late this week. Mom was in the middle of her midterms, so I guess I will has to give her a break...

Below are the photographs from my 10/16/10 physical rehab appointment at Scout's House.

I did some more lower level laser light therapies, which is applied at specific acupressure points...

And then I received a nice ice treatment...

This is me with one of the interns doing my ice treatment...

She was very nice and will's make an pawsome physical therapist once she finishes school...

After my ice treatment I tried some thing new during this session. It was called the balancy board...

Boy was that hard. I's tried to balance myself but it takes a lots of muscle control...I think's I will have to keep working on this one....

Then I did my normals manual PT exercises...

After which I prepared for my swimming lessons...

(One should always wear a life vest when one is planning on going swimming so that they don't sink to the bottom of the water...hehe...)

Of course I had to express and make known my feeling on the swimming matter...

But in the end, I did my swimming lessons (hydrotherapy) like all good boys trying to recover should...

My session came to an ends with my mommy talking to the wonderful peoples at Scout's House about acupuncture treatments...We's all agree that acupuncture is sometimes I haven't tried yet and the treatments could prove to be super beneficial for me's, (many of the physical therapists and the founder of Scout's House have done such treatment on their own pets and have found the treatments to work wonderfully when it comes to rehabilitating animals, not to mention have seen the same kind of results in the animals they help who are receiving such treatments...) but the treatments be super expensive, at $131.00 for the inital exam and $152.00 a treatment there afters. Scout's House contracts out with an acupuncturists so the costs of such treatment is no covered by their Holly Heart's fund...my Facebook friendz Jeffy, (he be a really cute, little green guy) has therefore offers to do a Flippin Crazy Stuntaton, to helps raise money to cover the cost of my treatments, and to helps pay for the ultrasound I needs, but he needs people to sponsor him for this ongoing event. Rubber Ducky Your The One...

Last Friday we tried some new exercises during my physical rehab appointment. I worked out with a exercise ball...

and then climbed some make shift stairs...

and finished my appointment with some hydrotherapy and Mr. Rubber Ducky...

I also had an x-ray of my thoracic inlet taken last Monday.

The good news is that me thoracic inlet issue isn't getting any worse, the bad new is that I now need a heart ultrasound to further diagnose my heart murmur. My doctor says that the murmur could be a result of hyperthoridism but he doubts it because of my young age, or possible cardiomyopathy. It could also be an innocent heart murmur, which many kitties have and is completely harmless. The only way for us to know for sure however is to have the ultrasound done. We will therefore be holding another auction towards either the end of this month or early Nov to help pay for the ultrasound. In the mean time we are trying to arrange and accept donated items for the auction. Physical Rehab For Animals: Scout's House Appointment 2

Here are the pictures I promised from our second appointment at Scout's house.

In the next few photographs, Moki's physical therapist is doing a set of manual techniques to help Moki stretch his front legs....

The therapist is basically trying to get Moki to reach out for the chair with his front two paws...

Below is a picture of the chute that Lisa, the founder of Scout's house built just for Moki...(thank you so very much Lisa for taking the time to do this for us!!!!)
Krista, the Director of Rehabilitation Therapy at Scout's House came up with the idea based on her knowledge of what has worked for swimmer puppies, who's back legs spread out similar to Moki's and what has worked to treat swimmer puppies in the past...

Krista and Debbie, another rehab therapist at Scout's House, shown below, are both really good at figuring out all sorts of ways to help Moki.

The chute helps to improve Moki's gait while developing his leg muscles.

Since the walls of the chute keep Moki's legs from falling out to the side he is able to walk through the chute while keeping his legs underneath him...

The chute also keeps Moki from falling over while relearning how to walk with a normal gait and building up his leg muscles...

During the week, Moki and I bring the chute home with us so that Moki can use it to exercise...

We then bring the chute back with us for each physical rehab appoint so that Moki's Krista and Debbie can use the chute to work with Moki during his physical rehab appointments...

Moki was still getting used to the idea of using his new chute when these pictures were taken so to help him out the first couple of times Moki was guided through the chute using a laser light toy...

It's been three days since Moki first used the new chute that Lisa built for him and he now loves it! Mini Munch, Moki's fur sibling is also quite fond of the chute, and whenever Moki is in the chute she likes to play with Moki which encourages him to walk faster and faster through the chute each time...it has also encouraged Moki to want to walk through the chute numerous times in a row. The minute he reaches one end, he wants to turn around and do it again!

Moki's hydrotherapy also went well....

He is becoming more and more aware of his dislike of water and therefore...

more and more willing to move his legs as...

he tries to get out of the water like most normal cats would...

Overall Krista and Debbie have reported that Moki has been amazing when it comes to receiving his rehab, but Moki and I can't help but think, it is Krista, Debbie, Lisa and the anonymous donor started Holly's Heart Fund, who have been the most amazing of all! Moki and I therefore wanted to thank each and everyone of them for the very special roles that they are playing in Moki's road to recovery!!!

Moki's 1st Physical Therapy Session (Animal Rehab) at Scout's House

Moki had his first physical therapy session (animal rehabilitation session) at Scout's House last Friday. The session went really well and a number of therapies were tried on Moki due to his very unique condition. Since the cause of Moki's condition is unknown, Scout's House cannot map out a normal physical therapy/animal rehab plan for Moki. Like most things when it comes to Moki's care, Scout's House's treatment plan for Moki will be based on a process of trial and error.

With that said here are some pictures of the different therapies that were tried on Moki last week...

Manual therapy techniques:

With that said, our session finally came to and end with a new homework assignment needing to be completed every night this week. For five to ten minutes a night we are to preform the exercise shown in the video below. This exercise will help to strengthen Moki's inner thigh muscles, which in turn should help to get Moki walking better again!

So that's were we are currently at. None of the therapies were painful and Moki tolerated all of his therapy treatments very well. So well in fact that his therapists wished that all their patients were as good about accepting their therapy treatments as Moki. It's still a little to early to see any real results, but we'll let you know as soon as we do...

Moki now has a standing physical therapy/rehab appointment on Fridays for the next two months, so continue to look for weekly updates on his progress...

Scout's House is Da Greatest!

Scout's House is Da greatest! It has got to be the best place on earth for special needs animals needing rehabilitative therapy!!! For starters the doctor at Scout's House actually took the time to read Moki's medical file and acquaint herself with Moki's medical condition prior to our appointment. You could tell that she took the time to read Moki's medical file because throughout Moki's 2 hour (yes, you read that right, 2 hour) examination, the doctor asked very specific questions regarding details that were only listed/stated in his medical file.

The doctor was very detailed when looking Moki over and even caught a slight heart murmur when listening to Moki's heart (more about that a little later)....

The physical therapist was very kind and gentle with Moki. She preformed lots of exercises with Moki, checked his reflexes, and evaluated his over all condition...

The atmosphere was light and professional, yet caring and very understanding particularly when it came to Moki's special needs...
Needless to say Moki felt very comfortable there...

The appointment ended with everyone being assigned some homework. Moki and I are to work on some stretches and exercises at home, and the physical therapist is researching additional ways which she may be able to isolate and work certain muscle groups on Moki, in addition to developing an over all therapy plan.

And now for the bestest news of all!!! Scout's House accepted Moki into their Holly's Heart Fund Program, and will be preforming all ten of his physical therapy sessions for FREE! Can you believe it!!! This place is truly about helping special needs animals and you can see it in everything they do! We are so very, very, lucky to have found them!!!

So with that said, we have a new plan. Since Moki still needs another thoracic inlet x-ray taken, and now needs to get this heart murmur thing checked out, and since Scout's House will be covering the cost of Moki's physical therapy, we are going to spend the rest of the money left in Moki's medical fund (minus the $80.00 spent on physical therapy at UC Davis, and $200.00 spent on the physical therapy exam at Scout's House,) to get Moki's heart murmur checked out, and to have another thoracic inlet x-ray taken...so you can expect lots of updates on Moki's progress in the weeks which lie ahead...

Oh and P.S.
During our physical therapy exam at Scout's House, both the physical therapist and doctor had mentioned that upon reading Moki's medical file, prior to their ever meeting him, they both wondered why I had kept Moki alive for so long...Moki's medical file is quite thick, and just reading his medical file without ever meeting him is enough to make anyone ask themselves this question, however upon meeting Moki, they both completely understood! They both saw him as the happy, loving, full of life cat, which all of you have come to know, and now after meeting him, seeing his sheer will and determination, they both want to do everything within their power to help him regain some of what he lost due to his illness, because there is no doubts in their mind either that this is a little guy who wants to be here and deserves every chance at life possible!
