Loaded quickly and easily on Vista Home Basic. Graphics are smooth – not choppy like a lot of screensavers. Vivid colors, realistic audio. Even for those who don’t need a screensaver, this will be a fun one to watch. Thanks GOTD!

I have two monitors and this screensaver only will play on one. Looks nice tho but unfortunately I cant use it unless I can get it to work on both.

Great Software – just not for Vista users
This software runs fine on XP and is a great tool. Unfortunately, Vista (and possibly Windows 7) users are left out. Even compatibility mode can’t run it. Oh well, I guess Vista isn’t perfect…

Prominently absent is the ability to use Regular Expressions in any fashion.
One (of many) freeware alternatives is BKReplaceEM (which supports everything this one claims and also has at least rudimentary regexp support)

I haven’t tried the professional edition, but I have used the free Home version for several months and it has been very reliable. There don’t seem to be too many differences, except this works with 64 bit systems and you can make a bootable CD.

Is this the program that I can used to combine my partitioned hard drive? I just bought an ASUS 1000 HE netbook and it has 1 hard drive but divided into 2 smaller partitions. Can I use this to combine them so I can get 1 big hard drive?

Good:- Smooth and simple installation.- A small window showing summary of selected process.- Very user friendly and easy to understand interface.- Easy to access features.Awesome:Showing statistics about connected computers and other network connections, so that we can be aware of any connections made to our machines on the fly.
A little bad:
- Its toolbar is little weird because of large icons along with text captions, and half of the caption is not visible properly and you can’t read directly what that icon means. However if you place our mouse over that icon, a pop up description would show you about that.- While playing with the toolbar options like “place it below ribbon” or “Customize toolbar”, it hanged and crashed two times.:( (I have XP + SP3)
Overall, its a very good and informative tool. :)

Nice little app., but crashes when asked for network traffic on Vista 32bit SP1. Uses 1M RAM and has a small on-screen footprint.

I have not tried this program yet. But for Vista users, just go to run and type perfmon.msc.
It already does all (if not most), of what this program does.

I installed it just fine. When I ran it for the first time, it gave me an application error. I reloaded it, and the same thing. Unless the bug is squashed, I wont be able to use it. I really like the idea, as there is a company selling the same service now for $20 bucks a month, and I cant afford that. Please some one fix this puppy. Win XP Pro SP3

I would like to make virtual drive and change settings of some Pinnacle USB PCTV to write temporary timeshift files into it (those files are locked for exclusive use by Pinnacle software). Is possible to achieve possibility to read temporary files by other process (bypass exclusive access)?

Draw with dividers, ruler, protractor, pencil and rubber on the screen as you would do it on a sheet of paper. You see a real ruler on the screen which you can move and rotate. You can then draw along the ruler. If you want to make constructions on the computer this is the easiest way.

I used this before and was able to extract many media items, but most were not very interesting. The majority of the items with bits and pieces of games and such which, individually, served no purpose. In short…I sure would not pay for this program. Perhaps it would amuse you to hear all the sounds/pics it could extract from your game files.

compare with the basic functions of this kind of software, I

think WinX DVD author may be the cheapest. If you just want to

create DVD by yourself, it can satisfy you. And, it is really

Downloads and installs on Wiondows 2000, but unable to run . Error message:
“SaxII409U.exe - Unable to locate DLL”
“The dynamis link library gdiplus.dll could not be found in the specified path” followed by all the directories in my path.

Downloaded, installed, and run with no problem. Very nice tool for the layman to do some computer network monitoring. Thanks GAOTD.
The software reports connections on various ports, and packets size, with info on FTP/HTTP/etc. connections. Don’t know if this sw can capture some data packet. When closed the program and re-started, it gave an error (”The current version does not support that upgrade knowledge base policy through a proxy”). I will try to fix this issue. BTW, ‘Snort’ is the de-facto standard for intrusion detection, and is used to do autopsy of network attacks, and prosecute the culprits.

This has same problems as their other DVD rippers, unable to set custom output resolutions on 3GP format so either bitrate is wasted on encoding black bars for letter-boxing or the aspect ratio is lost.

The reviews from the last time this was offered (Jan)rated it poorly. If this version still cannot recognize drivers already installed, it remains too cumbersome for me.
If you often install Windows, it is worth looking at.

MultiStage Recovery has a simple and useful interface that contains the usual menu bar, a toolbar with five nice icons and a work area split into a drive tree view and the file view area. There’s nothing special about it, this is just a regular Windows interface I get to see every day, but it does its job, and this is what matters before everything else.

Operating this program is very easy, despite the fact that you don’t have any wizard to help you. Once you start it for the first time, the available drives from your system are displayed inside the Drives pane. You can choose hard drive partitions, floppy disks or USB devices to scan. Once the scanning process is complete, you can start
recovering deleted files.

The recovery process is very easy to perform, all you have to do is select the deleted items and then choose Restore from the contextual menu that appears when you right click inside the file view area and then choose the destination folder for restoring. This is it.

Overall, it doesn’t have a lot of advanced features. But it’s good enough to perform the simple task of recovering deleted files.

The Good

The ease of use recommends it for all users. Its flexibility allows the users to choose what audio and subtitle files to save from the original DVD.

The Bad

Apart from the fact that it is not capable of copying a DVD9 into one single folder, the software also lacks in the ability to display the chapters and titles of the video. This way, the user cannot get rid of the unnecessary “extra-luggage” of the DVD.

67MB of RAM during the copying process and almost 110MB used during burning. That is a little too much for me, despite the fact that my machine is strapped with 1GB of RAM.

The Truth

The application works fine and is stable enough so it won’t nag you with crashes and writing on DVD-RW worked fine.

Speed and the fact that it cannot copy a DVD9 into a single folder are the only problems from my point of view.

Have installed on WinXP SP3 OK and run a quick test. It is a basic DVD copier and I don’t see any advantage over my old friend DVD Shrink. It may be a little bit faster but if so, only 10% or so which is no big deal. Still I would give it a thumbs up as it will be a useful program to many people, but I’ll be more interested if WinX giveaway their DVD Author package on GOTD. Cheers.

LeaderTask was given out on Jan 23, 2009 as v6.1. I wrote a fairly extensive review on it back then. You can read it by clicking here.

Today’s is v6.4. I tried searching for any sort of changelog but it does not seem like the developer keeps much of one (there are posts on their forums asking for what are the changes in new version with no reply so far).

Warning: Before installing todays giveaway, be warned that it comes with an unexpected “bonus”.

If you accept the default options during installation you will get a toolbar (called Star Search).

While I am not against developers making money - I would hope that they do it through increased sales because their product is good, not because they sneak a toolbar into their install and disguise it’s presence by giving it an obscure name.

Then when the user notices that their browser has been screwed with and asks why did you install this stuff - they respond “Because you don’t unselect check box Install SkyMediaPack on StarBurn installation page:”. That’s right… it’s YOUR FAULT.

So make sure you follow the installation instructions in the StarBurn forums if you don’t want to have your browser settings changed and a new parasite toolbar added to your system.

Don’t install “SkyMediaPack” (which is a code word for “change home page and install unwanted toolbar). It’s one thing to ‘read instructions’ it’s another to ‘invent a name’ and provide no further information as to whether it is an unwanted optional extra - or a useful part of the product.

A description explaining what was being installed (including the words “optional toolbar” and “replace default seach engine”) would be appreciated by many users who didn’t intuitively know what “SkyMediaPack” was. The choice to install SkyMediaPack should be opt-in and not set to install by default.
