It's been awhile since my last post, I've been busy adjusting to my new New York City life. I am currently the PR and Sales intern at Wildfox Couture's NY showroom and needless to say it's amazing.
A few weeks ago we flew out to Miami to launch the highly anticipated swim collection, Wildfox Swim. The collection was inspired by the story "Go West, young cow girl" featuring badass Aussie model Anja Konstantinova.
"The story is of a girl who loved roadtrips, roping cattle, and wearin' bikinis."

We kicked off the weekend with a wild launch party presentation in the penthouse of the Raleigh Hotel, where models worked the crowd to the music of DJ Mia Moretti and electric violinist Caitlin Moe.

Safe to say Christophe Decarnin is my fashion god.

Metallics are back in full force across the designers.

Decarnin has shifted from his previous punk-biker-badass look to a more glam rock look.

Decarnin was not at the show in Paris, and is currently resting as per the doctor's orders. Best wishes to the talented designer.

Wildfox brings back Woodstock

Tucked in the basement of the Hudson Hotel, Good Units hosted the intimate preview for Wildfox Couture's Fall 2011 collection on Wednesday.

The dark underground atmosphere contrasted the colourful and fearlessly dressed guests. Guests were mingling and bobbing around to The Misshapes, watched videos from previous collections and sipped cocktails named the "Jimmy Hendrix" and "Anita Pallenberg". Designers Emily Faulstich and Kimerbly Gordon wandered the crowd that had slowly turned into a dance party.

The walls were carefully speckled with giant flowers, which complemented the flower-child look of the collection. Unlike the Fashion Week shows a few blocks north at Lincoln Center, Wildfox models danced with guests and made their way through the crowd to the front of the room where they formed a tall, skinny, leggy spectacle. Photographers swarmed, making the show official.

True to their brand, the collection preview consisted of baggy t-shirts with Woodstock inspired words ("I left my heart at Woodstock") and an over-sized, fringed, smiley-faced poncho. My favourite: the baggy, yellow, "I need a taxi" t-shirt.

The 70s inspired makeup was done by Urban Decay.

Love or leave...

I can't quite decide how I feel about these... Nonetheless this is a trend for spring and they certainly look very comfortable. I think I would prefer a wedge or platform heel to these.
DG/4/2011: the more I come back to this post, the more I realize that I really, really do not like this trend.

Camilla Belle makes it impossible not to love this love-or-hate trend. The midriff baring trend is making its way from the runway to the streets, making people look twice and really ponder their opinion. The super high-waisted pants and matching tailored blazer keeps this skin baring look classy.
Amazing.

Google Launches Fashion Website: Boutiques.com

Hand it to Google to come out with a visually clean and easy to use website dedicated to fashion trends and styling. Boutiques.com allows you to browse looks and seasonal trends. Not sure what suits you best? Take the quiz and have items recommended to you! As of now (just released today) it's US only, but they plan to expand soon.

Check it out, I'm sure you'll be a lot hearing about this website!

Stumbled upon a company called Nightcap, designed by Carisa Brambles. I'm a sucker for long sleeve mini dresses, and these lace accented minis are extremely sexy. Also included some Velvet items below, its a big trend for winter and I must say, the look is growing on me.

Twas Thanksgiving weekend (Canadian) and my family drove down to CT to visit my brother. We rented a house that was decorated very cottagey, sort of boho chic with Buddahs, healing crystals and a gorgeous vintage sofette. My description doesn't do it justice, but then again I'm not an interior decorator. I'm digressing.

My mother, who had planned the entire trip, was raving about the shopping. To be honest, I didn't believe her at first seeing as our cute little home-away-from home was in the middle of a ravine. None the less we hopped in the car and low and behold there was a mini boutique village. There was Tiffany & Co. etc, but the stores that I loved were new to me. The first store was Lucy's Answers and it had an amazing nordic print sweater poncho and a huge collection of DVF pieces including a pair of 5" black suede Zia heels that I fell in love with. Because it was my first shop I said I'd come back, but of course spent the next four hours in another new fav store LF until all the shops were closed. I'll have to post some pictures or something but I came home with some awesome vintage renewal items by One of a Kind including a knit skirt and zippered sleeveless hoodie. I also picked up some shirts, pair of boots, a gorgeous leather fringe necklace and silver dagger earrings.
Anyways, I was thinking about the poncho and shoes tonight and thought I'd share. If you're ever in Westport, Connecticut be sure to head into town. They have a great Frozen Yoghurt shop too.

LF has several locations including Soho, the store is wicked; it reminds me of Lavish and Squalor (Toronto) but only for girls and more clothes. I'd say it is currently my favourite store.

If you haven't seen or heard of Lula, you should really check it out. It is one of the most beautiful magazines. It's fantastical, whimsical and delicate. One of those magazines that you save forever because you can't bare to throw out. Lula only publishes twice a year making each issue even more special. These images are from the Lula Scrapbook (the first is a mag cover).

It's getting close to that time of year again. Sometimes noted as the best day for males and the worst day for women. Regardless of your gender, you can't deny that these ladies are gorgeous, and the costumes are absolutely incredible.

NEWWILDFOX NEWWILDFOX!!!

Clearly I'm excited. NYLON released a sneak peak of the WFC Spring 2011 collection on their website and the combination of Marie Antoinette/Sophia Coppola/traditional Wildfox style is heaven to my eyes. I'm a sucker for vintage-esque tee's (I have piles of my mother's old concert tees) and the way they use vintage to inspire new collections satisfies my oxymoronic desires for something vintage/current. Kim and Emily (pictured below, Kim left) have paired delicate negligees and lingeries with hippie flowered sweats and tees.

Fall is all about accessorizing, so I thought I'd share with you a company my friend introduced me to...I'm in love!

The company is called Headmistress and consists of delicate feathered pieces including headbands, bib necklaces, pins, brooches, rings and headdresses. Headmistress also features a collection of vintage fur pieces including a very old hollywood glam fur muff-clutch.

The free-spirited nature of this brand is right up my alley, and the best part is the founder, Jillian Wood, is a Canadian! You can find Headmistress pieces in stores all over the world, Wood is now based in Toronto.

Philip Sparks: Toronto designer launches women's collection!

Nothing like a Canadian designer, and better yet, Torontonian designer to make us proud!

Philip Sparks Tailored Goods Inc. is expanding into womenswear for the Spring 2011 season. The 30-piece collection will preview during womenswear market week in New York from September 20 to 26 before being presented in Toronto on October 13.

“Women have been asking us to do this for a few seasons but we wanted to get it right,” says designer Philip Sparks. “We’ve quietly been showing the collection to retailers for the past two months and the feedback has been fantastic.” The contemporary-priced line reinterprets the menswear collection’s mix of suiting, shirting and casual fabrics in tailored separates and dresses and a core group of knits and denim.

Excited? Good.

Signature pieces include a cherry blossom photo print jumper, a pin cord shirtdress with classic kimono sleeves, a double breasted trench with an accordion pleated vent and a buffalo bag with brass taking.
