I just finished reading the updated (2nd Edition) of "Airfare Secrets Revealed" (Tom Rhoades) and thought I'd share my opinion here on Travel Blog Widgets.

My first reaction, interestingly enough, was not about the text but rather all of the included bonuses. When you purchase Airfare Secrets Revealed, you not only get the book but you also get a boatload of very nice freebies. For example:

All of the freebies will be useful, but I especially liked the butget guides for family travel and family vacations. These two guides are so useful, in fact, that I have already transferred them both to my travel laptop! I had forgotten that the eBook came with all of this other stuff and was VERY pleasantly surprised.

As for the Airfare Secrets Revealed eBook, I'm in the travel business and was familiar with many of the techniques. I did however get two very novel and new techniques that blew me away. These are techniques that the novice traveler can use but they can also be utilized by pros in the travel industry. For the everyday traveler, I thought the book was well written and would definitely make good on it's promise to deliver airfare savings strategies.

The fact is, airlines are filling up the seats faster than ever and most of the travel sites are acting as brokers to help them. Whether you book your airfare through a third-party site or you book it directly through the airline, the more upcharge you spend on your airfare, the more money they make. The objective of this eBook is to ensure that you get the absolute best price on airfare that you possibly can!

Lots and Lots of Travel Questions

I really enjoy reading the comments I get here on My Travel Blog Widgets and I hope you'll continue to be a regular reader for years to come. One of my favorite websites for doing travel research is Yahoo Answers. There are always current and unanswered questions from members there and it's fun to read what's on people's minds.

One of the recurring travel related questions I've seen in the last few weeks is,

"Can I Get an Airfare Refund on my Haiti Ticket?"

If you've purchased and are holding airfare to Haiti, I'm sure you're painfully aware that no commercial flights are permitted in or out of Port-au-Prince Haiti. You can hold on to your airfare if you want, but the airlines are first to admit that they have no idea when regular flights will resume. If you have travel plans to Haiti, we strongly suggest contacting your airline for a courtesy refund. From all indications, it sounds like most of the airlines are cooperating with customer requests as a gesture of goodwill.

The answers that Yahoo! Answers members submitted were mixed with several saying what I just said but lots of them saying you're out of luck.

Besides the travel related questions, I've also seen tons of questions about prescription eyeglasses. Eric Hammer's review of Zenni Optical says they tops with the highest quality eyeglasses being sold for 8 dollars per pair. Amazing what you can learn on Yahoo! Answers...

American Airlines has announced the addition of new privileges for its top customers called PriorityAccess.

AAdvantage elite status members (executive platinum, platinum, gold AAdvantage or Oneworld Alliance emerald, sapphire or ruby), first and business class travelers, AAirpass customers and economy class travelers with full fare tickets will all benefit from the addition of these perks:

- Dedicated check-in lines at every airport American Airlines serves

- Separate PriorityAccess security lanes at the 10 largest airports it services, as well as select others based on TSA permission. The airports with confirmed PriorityAccess lanes are Dallas/Fort Worth, Chicago O’hare, Miami, Los Angeles (LAX), New York JFK, New York La Guardia, St. Louis, San Francisco, Boston and San Juan.

- Separate boarding lanes at the gates that allow passengers to bypass general boarding lines

The American Airlines website describes each perk as follows:

PriorityAAccess Check-In
PriorityAAccess customers will enjoy their own dedicated check-in area at the ticket counter with distinctive signage clearly identifying PriorityAAccess lines. In addition, “PriorityAAccess” will be printed on boarding passes, designating travelers as American’s top customers.
