We’ve arrived to that time of the year where YOU get a chance to be part of the MUMSU committee! That’s right… MUMSU’s AGM 2011 is just around the corner and we would like to invite all of you to run for a position to be a 2011/2012 MUMSU committee member! Here’s your chance to serve for MUMSU, build your leadership skills and at the same time have fun! Oh, and not to forget all the unforgettable memories you’ll be creating throughout the year! :]

Here are the list of available positions:

President

The duties of the President shall be to

(i) preside as chair over committee meetings and General Meetings;

(ii) attend meetings of the Clubs & Societies Council, vote in the interests of the club, and report outcomes to the committee;

(iii) co-ordinate the activities of the committee;

(iv) represent the club, and act as its spokesperson, to the Clubs & Societies Council, MSA, the University and other bodies, as appropriate;

(v) submit reports to committee meetings, as appropriate; and

(vi) submit an annual report to the AGM.

Vice President

The duties of the Vice President shall be to

(i) attend committee meetings and General Meetings;

(ii) preside as chair over committee meetings and General Meetings, in the absence of the President;

(iii) assist the President in her/his duties;

(iv) perform the duties of the President if that office is vacant; and

(v) perform other duties, as the committee may resolve.

Secretary

The duties of the Secretary shall be to

(i) attend committee meetings and General Meetings;

(ii) prepare agendas and minutes, and serve notice as prescribed, for General Meetings and committee meetings;

(iii) act as Returning Officer for club elections, as appropriate;

(iv) ensure that an up-to-date membership register is maintained;

(v) regularly check the club’s mail box and electronic mail account, supplied by the Clubs & Societies Council, for incoming correspondence;

(vi) ensure that inwards and outwards correspondence for the club is handled correctly and in a timely manner; and submit an annual report to the AGM.

Treasurer

The duties of the Treasurer shall be to

(i) attend committee meetings and General Meetings;

(ii) keep the club’s financial books in order, in accordance with the requirements of the Clubs & Societies Council;

(iv) prepare a club budget,

(v) collect and bank all income in the club’s bank account;

(vi) prepare the club’s financial books for audit, semi-annually;

(vii) submit a financial report to the AGM; and

(viii) liaise with the Clubs & Societies Council on any financial requirements.

Editor

The duties of the Editor shall be to

(i) ensure the regular issue of the newsletter;

(ii) structure the Newsletters in a manner as to further and reflect the aims and objectives of the club; and

(iii) help in designing any forms of computer graphics desired by the club.

Information Officer

The duties of the Information Officer shall be to

(i) coordinate all talks, forums and information sessions organized by MUMSU;

(ii) handle and moderate publicity relating to MUMSU activities; and

(iii) assist the editor.

(iv) maintain the MUMSU blog and the MUMSU facebook page

Sponsorship Officer

The duties of the Sponsorship Officer shall be to

(i) obtain sponsorship, either financial or non-financial, to help facilitate

(i) the organization of events and the union in general; and

(ii) ensure that the best interest of both the sponsors and the members

Activities Officer

The duties of the Activities Officer shall be to

(i) Co-ordinate events and activities for the union

(ii) Be pragmatic in the organization of events and ensure the objectives of the club are met

Photography Officer

(i) Take pictures of MUMSU events

(ii) Upload the pictures to the MUMSU blog and MUMSU's facebook page

(iii) Assist the Information Officer in his task of maintaining the MUMSU blog and the MUMSU facebook page

(iv) Assist in any portfolios when needed

A group of students in Melbourne has taken an amazing incentive to start an annual sports competition amongst students from all the ASEAN countries. This year, the ASEAN Student Games 2011 invites you to be part of the first of the many events that aim to foster relationships amongst students from the different nations. Be a part of this change. In addition to that, you may prove your skills inside the court and make new friends.

What is NCG?

MASCA National Conference & Games is the biggest sporting event under the
MASCA calendar year, bringing together Malaysian students of various
states and universities under a huge sporting festival. Every year, the
NCG is hosted by different MASCA state component and in year 2011, it will
be hosted by MASCA Victoria. The main purpose of this event is to bring
fellow Malaysian students from various states within Australia to
participate in conventions and sporting events.

AIESEC Exchange Promotion!

AIESEC is the world’s largest student-run organisation. Basically, what AIESEC does is send local students on global internships to countries all over the world, doing anything from teaching English to working in a management position within a corporation, to helping NGOs. At last count, we have 58,000 members in 109 countries who went on 13,300 exchanges last year.

So why should you go on exchange with AIESEC?

First, to improve your employability. Going on an international internship demonstrates that you have global experience, which immediately raises you above the crowd and creates a strong positive impression with potential employers. It will make your CV look great!

Secondly, to develop yourself as an individual. The initiative and independence you develop from being pushed out of, your comfort zone, in a different country, is something that will stay with you for life and make you a stronger individual.

If you want something different to university, something adventurous, then an AIESEC internship is the way to go. Nothing can be more exciting than actually going to a different country, a different culture, and truly experiencing it from within while simultaneously utilising your time doing something useful.

Volunteers for One World Week!

Looking for volunteer opportunities?

One World Week is coming up, and MUMSU is setting up a stall next Thursday giving out a sweet potato dessert also known as 'bubur cha cha'. Hence, MUMSU needs YOUR help to man the stall on that day! The whole event runs from 10a.m.to 3p.m. but we will split it into three shifts.

The scope of your work includes:

i) Helping to set up at the start of the day.

ii) Serving the dessert in individual disposable bowls and handing them out.

iii) Helping to pack up at the end of the day.

In return, volunteers will be awarded a certificate to acknowledge your contributions on that day.

SO HURRY! It's on a first come, first serve basis and spaces are limited. We only need six volunteers!

MASCA Victoria Sports will be organising a bowling tournament on the 9th of April, Saturday, 11 A.M at AMF Clayton.

Teams must comprise of four people, (two males and two females) and will be competing in 3 games of bowling. The top four bowlers with the highest average (two males and two females) will represent Victoria for NCG 2011. Then, the top 4 teams with highest accumulated average will then compete in another game of bowling to determine the champion, runner up and third place to be rewarded with AUD 200, AUD 120 and AUD 80 respectively. The fee is only AUD 25 per person (including snacks)!!

It's Monash University's Orientation week this week! That time of the year, where students decide which clubs they want to be part of! How exciting :D

MUMSU (Monash University Malaysian Students Union) has lots of exciting events planned this year, we've got the usual events that we organised during past years, such as the Welcome back BBQ, Old Town Kopitiam (eat-out and karaoke) event, Sports day (like the dodgeball competition last year), the Merdeka Trivia Night, Easter Camp, Ski Camp, and then there's the Annual MUMSU Ball!

This year, we're also planning to have a Bowling Night Out and

a Casino Night, and the list goes on!

MUMSU is a perfect place to make new friends, especially if you are Malaysian! You will have no trouble fitting in, I promise! If you are a first year student or new to Melbourne, feeling lost and looking for new friends, then join MUMSU, you will make plenty of new friends in no time :)

Eat-Out & Karaoke!

Hope you all have had a great mid-sem break! :)

MUMSU is going to have an Eat-out and karaoke event on the Sunday, 10th of October! Take a break from studying and come join us for some Nasi Lemak at Old Town Kopitiam. After makan, we'll be having a karaoke session at Chi Lounge, where you'll be able to sing and release those exam stress!

Times: 2.30 - 5pm [Lunch] and 5 - 9pm [Karaoke]
Ticket prices: $8 for Members and $15 for Non-members

What's for lunch?
You will be getting Old Town Kopitiam Nasi Lemak as well as ice lemon tea for drinks. The Nasi Lemak comes with 1 dish of choice. There will be curry chicken, beef rendang, fried chicken, sambal prawn, sambal squid and curry fish to choose from! Old Town Kopitiam usually sell their Nasi Lemak with 1 dish at $9.90! This would mean that you will be paying for food + drink as well as 4hrs of karaoke for less than the usual price of the Nasi Lemak itself.

Nasi Lemak including 1 dish of choice + Drink + 4 hrs of karaoke = $8! Sounds like a bargain doesn't it!

So basically you can come in anytime between 2.30 - 5pm for lunch. Just hand in your ticket and you'll receive your Nasi Lemak & drink!
Karaoke will be at Chi lounge which is just right above Old town Kopitiam. We will get the whole place to ourselves from 5pm - 8pm! So that is 6 rooms in total for the first 3 hours and 3 rooms for the remaining hour.

There will be a LUCKY DRAW on the day! You will stand a chance to win free drinks for your karaoke session###
