With the passing of our favorite author, we as fans, would like to start a movement to get ALL of Dorothy Gilman’s books in eBook format. In this way, the entire English speaking community would have access to her works and be able to enjoy then for years to come. Let’s face it traditional books are slowly dying out and electronic media is taking over. Why shouldn’t we have access to all of our favorite author’s stories? I say we start today and DEMAND that all of her books be made available for all of her fans around the globe. If we can get them released in an electronic format such as a PDF format then all of the online bookstores would be able to sell them. Granted, there is nothing like a regular book to read while relaxing that doesn’t require a computer or special device for access but it costs way less to create a book in ebook form of some kind and offer it online. It is the “GREEN” way to go.

Once, we get the stories in English in some kind of electronic format then it would be simple to have the books translated into whatever other language her fans need them in to share with family and friends. Memorial Service for Dorothy Gilman

I just received this update from Jonathan Butters:

“Dear Jolene,
My family and I sincerely appreciate all the condolences and kind words expressed by you and her fans. A memorial service will be held for her on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at The Community Church of New York, 40 East 35th Street in Manhattan. Any readers of the Mrs. Pollifax Fan Blog who happen to be in the area are welcome to attend. Jonathan Butters”

If you reside in the area we hope you can attend. And we hope you will share the experience with the rest of her fans who are not able. I will really miss all the new stories that Dorothy Gilman Butters could have shared with us and I wish I could come up with an appropriate saying that would ease the pain of her children and grandchildren. I, for one, will pause in whatever I am doing at that time and offer a moment of silence in honor of this great writer, mother and artist.

Sad News

I received this email yesterday:

Dear Jolene,
I am sorry to let you know that my mother, Dorothy Gilman, passed away this morning at the age of 88. She had been suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease for the past nine years so her death is both sad and a relief. She appreciated the kind work you have done to provide information and a forum for her fans. Take care and feel free to pass this information along as you see fit. Jonathan Butters

We wish to express our sincerest regret to Jonathan and the rest of his family for this tremendous loss. All of us will cherish her writings and miss her style.

Happy New Year Fellow Fans

Happy New Year all the fellow fans of our favorite author Dorothy Gilman. We hope you have had a safe and happy holiday season. I don’t know about you but I have been re-reading all of my favorite Dorothy Gilman books and look forward to conversing with my fellow fans. To answer the number 1 question of will there be any more books? The answer is probably not. Dorothy Gilman is getting older and has not published any new works for over 11 years. We, as avid fans, wish her well and if there is ever going to be anymore books I am sure I will be first in line to buy one. All we can really do is read our favorites, share the books with our friends and relatives, and make up our own stories about our favorite characters. It is an open place for Dorothy Gilman fans to discuss the books, her characters and what story lines you would have like to read about. Just because there may not be any more books doesn’t mean we cannot create our own and share them with our fellow fans.

Mrs Pollifax Movie Updates

If you are a Netflix subscriber then you might want to take a look at the movies they have added recently. The Mrs Pollifax – Spy movie with Rosalind Russell has been added to their viewing list. My kids and I love the service we can watch movies and TV-shows as much as we want as many times as we want for only $8.00 a month. We use that service all the time even with cable at home. I can watch on my laptop wherever there is an internet service connection.

I have, again, emailed CBS sales department and requested that the Unexpected Mrs Pollifax movie with Angela Lansbury be released at least in digital format for buying and/renting on www.amazon.com. It seems a shame not to at least release their “made-for-tv” movies in a digital download setting if not on regular dvd. I propose that every fan of Dorothy Gilman’s who would love to see this movie go to the CBS website and send a letter requesting that they company release the movie on digital format! I told them that we would have at least 6000 people wanting to order the movie, if not more, from all across the globe. So, help get this movie released to the public as soon as possible take a few minutes and use the email form on the www.cbs.com website!!!!!
