Whip It [trailer] - Yay! Roller Derby! Drew Barrymore is both directing and starring in this story of another confused teenager. While this film does appear interesting, it may end up being a “chick flick”  instead of a story everyone should be able to enjoy.  Hopefully there will be lots of violence, cause that’s all that is really funny anyway. Jennifer’s Body - There are way too many slang terms that were invented for this film. Megan Fox is still hot, but her acting ability is still unknown. Fox barely speaks throughout the entire film. As far as horror films go, this film is definitely a step up. There are a handful of well thought out characters that actually have a reason to exist. This film is fun to watch, but don’t freak out. The Boondock Saints 2 [trailer] -It’s obvious that some time has passed as both main characters look significantly older. However, this seems to because of the actual passage of time and not a creative decision made for the film itself. Differences in the actual technique of making movies may cause this sequel to have a different feel that isn’t quite in the spirit of the original. The absence of any specific plot details in addition to the aforementioned issues, swamp this trailer’s impression on us. The Movie Bandits recommend that you rent The Boondock Saints 2.

Inception [trailer] - A significant amount of talent for this project has been drawn from the rebooted Batman series. This trailer is basically a teaser. Few scenes are shown from the movie itself. However, what is shown features wirework and some spatially deceiving camera shots. The Movie Bandits recommend that you see Inception in theaters.

9 - This adaption was more like a copy. Even though the original director was involved in both projects, this 2009 feature film looks exactly like its 2005 short-film counterpart. This new film is slightly more polished in terms of actual character body language. When considering the film as a whole, 9 is disappointing. The film runs short on top of continuing past a pseudo ending.  A short explanation for this film: the original 11 minute version didnt have the financial backing, but this feature length film stretches its content too thin. A film located somewhere in the middle would be an improvement. The Movie Bandits recommend that you download 9.

The Fourth Kind [trailer] - It’s based on real events (and Grizzly Adams had a beard). Usually people sitting on a couch for hours on end is not entertaining, interesting or worth anybodies time, this film is no exception. Editing seems to be the culprit for any kind of exciting trailer this film has. The Movie Bandits recommend that you don’t see The Fourth Kind.

Daybreakers [trailer] - This film is a slight reversal on the vampire genre. It’s not new to have vampire in a positive role. However, having 90% of earth’s population live as vampires is a fresh idea. The “Human” moments will/should be captivating enough to justify this role reversal. The entire premise is risky because of its tendency to be topical instead of pure sci-fi/action. The Movie Bandits recommend that you rent Daybreakers.

Legion [trailer] - This is really a classic story, so putting those issues aside, the special effects are somewhat cheap. This is especially annoying when the entire point of a trailer is to display something amazing. Getting back on point, the story will be about controversy between humans and angels. The Movie Bandits recommend that you rent Legion.

Gamer - While it is rare for a movie based on a game to be any good, it is extremely rare for a movie about games in general to have any kind of quality. Gamer has its ups and downs. The in game scenes were dead on, but the game is only seen about 3 times. This film isn’t about a game, but about a man struggling to survive, which isn’t really a fresh idea. Computer interfaces weren’t cheesy and comedic moments are cleverly placed. Gamer is a movie that can easily be torn apart for any reason. Really, the only thing wrong with this film is its ending. For some reason the writers decided to end the film abruptly. There aren’t loose ends, but the ending just feels empty after 90+ minutes of rewarding film. The Movie Bandits recommend that you see Gamer in theaters.

Law Abiding Citizen [trailer] - In this film Girard Butler is wronged and proceeds to kill everybody. some Elements from Law Abiding Citizen have been in some other films: Saw and Death Sentence.  This is also another film where Butler attempts to hone his American accent. Hopefully this film will continue the spirit of Taken. The Movie Bandits recommend that you see Law Abiding Citizen in theaters.

Ninja Assassin [trailer] - At the end of the day this film will have awesome action and a plot you probably won’t care about. Having the Wachowski brothers attached to this movie means that it will be heavy on CG. The Wachowski bros. are always on the cutting edge, but this means that special effects technology is being pushed past its limit. The Movie Bandits recommend that you rent Ninja Assassin.

Avatar [trailer] - Obviously, this film has a lot of hype behind it. At first this film doesn’t appear to have as dark a plot as it should have. All of the CG appears to have a cartoony style. Hopefully 3d isn’t the only thing that makes this film visually appealing. The Movie Bandits recommend that you rent Avatar.

Inglorious Basterds - As usual this Quentin Tarantino film uses his traditional style of dialogue and action. Possibly one of the greatest war films ever made, Inglorious Basterds lives up to its trailer. This film is heavy on gore, warps history to its benefit, and makes two and a half hours seem like one. The Movie Bandits recommend that you see Inglorious Basterds in theaters.

The Final Destination 3D - Yuck. Horrible acting, horrible story, and surprisingly poor CG. Some humor was created in the films attempt to acknowledge the absurdness of the series and the genre., but it usually fell flat. Almost half of the footage is recycled (from this movie) via flashbacks and the opening/closing sequences. All stupid film problems aside, most of the deaths have been proven safe by Mythbusters and the like. Bottom line: too bad to even laugh at. The Movie Bandits recommend that you don’t see The Final Destination.

The Lightning Theif [trailer] -  Aparrantly, the Empire State Building is the location of the world’s largest floodlight museum. Some big name actors season the cast, but there are way too many characters. It may be the case that few if any characters have any sort of solo screentime, leaving the viewer overwhelmed.  The Movie Bandits recommend that you download The Lightning Theif.

Old Dogs [trailer] - This film feels like Wild Hogs for good reason; both films have the same director. However, Old Dogs seems to be less family oriented and therefore, more entertaining. Its been a while since Robin Williams or Seth Green have been in a successful comedy, so all there is to do is wait. The Movie Bandits Recommend that you rent Old Dogs.

The Vampire’s Assistant [trailer] - This is a serious role for John C. Reilly  when most of his previous films have been off the wall comedies.  Even though the film’s rating implies violence, it will probably be boring at best. This story is designed to be told to a child, and will only appear amazing to a child. Also, the recent success of Twilight couldn’t have anything to do with this adaption. G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra - This film had way less hype than any other 1990s franchise remake.  With lower expectations going in G.I. Joe is pretty easy to accept. The CG doesn’t look amazing and some parts of the story are ridiculous. To make things simple: if G.I. Joe was part of your childhood, you are going to have a good time. Nostalgia has a way of blurring the line between junk and award-winning films. The Movie Bandits recommend that you rent G.I. Joe The Rise of Cobra.

Public Enemies - This film combines historical events with modern filming techniques. While Johnny Depp played a very good John Dillinger, the performance wasn’t all that amazing. There are many events that seemed to be brushed away, when they are at times the most interesting thing. A smaller cast would have helped. This film is drawn out, and the scene that was supposed to be epic came across as bland. Movie gun fights are filmed in certain ways for a reason. The Movie Bandits recommend that you rent Public Enemies.

Bruno - Basically, the marketing campaign for this film was almost as disgusting as the film itself. Most of the scenes are staged and are only slightly funny. While every viewer is guaranteed to be offended, being shocking is the new white after labor day. The Movie Bandits recommend that you don’t see Bruno.

The Hurt Locker - Technically, this film is not an action movie. Its pacing is similar to Lord of War. We expected this film to be boring because of the constant tension of what wire to cut. While that element is present, is doesn’t overwhelm the film. Confusion, fear, and dry-humor make this film a dynamic experience. The Movie Bandits recommend that you see The Hurt Locker in theaters.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince - Now with more staring and looking. This installment is greatly detached from the magical/fantasy world present in the previous films. But, as the characters age it is only natural for the world to change around them. As with any adaption some things got left out, but it didn’t seem to hurt the story. The Movie Bandits recommend that you see Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince in theaters.

Fifty Dead Men Walking [trailer] - Jim Sturgess and Ben Kingsley bring you accents thick enough to cut with a knife in this double agent thriller. The Last Airbender [trailer] - Even though the source material is targeted at children, it continually attracts older viewers. The odd thing about this film is the director, M. Night Shyamalan. The Last Airbender is quite a leap from any of his previous films, successful or not. Ask yourself  ‘What is Shyamalan good at’? The Movie Bandits recommend that you do not see The Last Airbender.

New Moon [trailer] - Basically, if you liked Twilight, New Moon is for you. However, the fairly solid screenplay is paired with 1990s special effects just like before. The Movie Bandits recommend that you download New Moon.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen - If you accept this film is an adaption and not a copy, it will be a blast. If the human centric storyline bothers you, it will annoy you to death.  A dilemma such as this cannot be solved easily. Multiple viewings may be necessary to decide if the film is actually enjoyable. At the end of the day, the goal of any Michael Bay film is to amaze your s***.  This film isn’t horrible, but its not perfect either. A word of advice: don’t spend time picking apart every scene for how horrible it appears. Enjoy your $10, life is to short. The Movie Bandits recommend that you rent Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

Hump Day [trailer] - Differences from Zack and Miri: 2 Guys, and the movie is made on a dare and not out of necessity. But wait, Hump Day has someone associated with the Blair Witch Project, which as everyone knows, is cinema gold. Awkward humor can be dangerous. Cold Souls [trailer] - When Paul Giamatti is Paul Giamatti. . . , I’m not sure where that was going, but he is playing himself. A film featuring anew medical procedure that goes wrong is nothing new, but the premise never seems to get old. The Movie Bandits recommend that you see Cold Soles in theaters.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen [trailer] - How have we not talked about this yet? Oops! Seriously, this film is very simple. It will be big on explosions, cars, computer animation, and less then inspirational acting. In the age of sequels, Revenge of the Fallen could follow the trend of success to big bucks. Even at its best this film will be exciting, but will never win any awards. The Movie Bandits recommend that you rent Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.

Zombieland [trailer] - In the style of Shawn of the Dead, Zombieland takes Americas post-apocalyptic pastime and warps it into hilarity.  But, other than random beatings, there does not seem to be any specific plot. Go prepare for the end of the world. The Movie Bandits recommend that you see Zombieland in theaters.

Year One - What a dissappointment. The greatest flaw about this film is its downtime. Pauses between jokes were unncessarily long, and more often than not added nothing to the story. To make things worst, possibly one of the most funny moments in the film occurs during an outtake. If you wern’t sick of Michael Cera’s typecasting before watching Year One, its likely that you live in a hole. Bottom line - this film is only funny for thirty minutes, total. The Movie Bandits recommend that you do not see Year One.

A Perfect Getaway [trailer] - Imagine sitting on a beach drinking an ice cold beer. Now forget all that because you are in for an action packed vacation adventure. It sounds cliche only because it is. Still, this film draws you in and gets you to root for your favorite character. In a world of constant remakes and sequels, a one-off film like this is rare. The Movie Bandits recommend that you see A Perfect Getaway in theaters.

The Answer Man [trailer] - The idea of reinventing a main character is nothing new, and reinventing that style is unheard of. Jeff Daniels’ style is hard to pinpoint so its hard to know what to expect from him. This film seems more like a base for a good film rather than a completed project. Orphan [trailer] - This film proposes that I won’t be able to guess the ending. Unfortunately, no guessing will take place because there is no reason to walk into the theater. It’s not enough to only have a girl screaming as the core content of the trailer; not enticing at all. At least Drag Me to Hell (another horror film) had the director of Spider-Man. The Movie Bandits recommend that you do not see Orphan.

The Final Destination [trailer] - This time those kids will definitely cheat death permanently, they have to.  If only this film could be about a high school love triangle the world would be a much better place. What podcast do you think this is? People are gonna die in 3D, this can only be entertaining. However, this film really has no substance. The Final Destination is a guilty pleasure, and should be viewed in the privacy of your own home. The Movie Bandits recommend that you rent The Final Destination.

The Hangover -   At first glance, the trailer appeared to reveal the entire film, when in reality only the first 10 minutes are revealed.  Its been a long time since a comedy has impressed us.  The humor is much more verbal than it is physical or situational, and at this point you probably have overheard many misunderstood one liners. Each main character carries a unique sort of humor and this makes the film more accessible, so you are bound to like one if not all three comedians. Even if you end up hating this film, sit through the end credits. The sheer authenticity of the “forgotten night” pales only in comparison to its raunchiness. The Movie Bandits recommend that you see The Hangover in theaters.

The Hurt Locker [trailer] - You know it’s gonna be good when “every object could be a bomb”! We acknowledge that while the premise is great, footage of bombs being disarmed could be potentially boring. Pressure Cooker [trailer] - This documentary follows a high school cooking class as the students chase after a scholarship that could change their lives. For starters, this isn’t a typical high school class as the equipment and passion of the instructor surpass the norm. Unfotunately, the film appears to drift from the food into typical high school dramatics. The Movie Bandits recommend that you download Pressure Cooker.

The Goods [trailer] - A comedy that actually looks funny, with a story interesting enough to keep you watching. Nuff said. The Movie Bandits recommend that you see The Goods in theaters.

The Brothers Bloom - This film brings everything  to the table. The intensity of the comedic moments were unexpected and had some of us laughing straight for fifteen minutes. The story draws you in and the film doesn’t take itself too seriously. When it is time to get to the plot, the transition is smooth, maintaining the same great experience. If anything can be said about The Brothers Bloom it would be the length. The third act is drawn out, but if you can make it through the reward is a great ending. The Movie Bandits recommend that you see The Brothers Bloom in theaters.

Bruno [trailer]- This film has the sole intention of topping Sascha Baren Cohen’s previous film, Borat. Bruno is so obscene at times that the trailer may be enough to disgust people. Honestly, if you are not already a fan, you will probably not like this movie. The entire point of Bruno is to offend the audience, and Cohen uses every opportunity to do so. The Movie Bandits recommend that you download Bruno.

Surrogates [trailer]- In yet another near future flick, Bruce Willis delivers a comic book adaption that has us very excited. If Surrogates could be compared to anything, the most similar film would be a combination of Die Hard and The Fifth Element. Not to knock the man, but Willis is an older guy. Fortunately, his presence in this film is totally justified as the pilots of surrogates are humans that have not been physically active for most of their lives. The Movie Bandits recommend that you see Surrogates in theaters.

District 9 [trailer]- Usually films about alien visitors involve the attack of the Earth. From what we do know, District 9 is the complete opposite situation. It is difficult to understand what the real story will end up being. Since this film is based on another film, the general plot isn’t really a secret. Hopefully the appeal of the film isn’t based in its mystery like Cloverfield. The Movie Bandits recommend that you rent District 9.

Sherlock Holmes [trailer]-This film is the slightly more serious adaption of the Arthur Conan Doyle character. Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law appear to make a great on screen duo which will be integral in the success of this movie. It should also be mentioned that most of Downey’s past movie have been really entertaining.  The Movie Bandits recommend that you see Sherlock Holmes in Theaters.

Terminator Salvation - The fourth installment of the Terminator franchise can really be looked at from two perspectives. As a movie on its own, Terminator Salvation is the best guy movie, 80s action flick that has been released in a long time. The special effects are stunning, and when there is action it keeps you glued to the screen. As continuation of the series Terminator Salvation is horrible. The choices made to resolve certain plot issues and create new ones will have long time fans face-palming for two hours. If you are looking for a plot twist or engaging story, you wont find it. Christian Bale’s performance can be described only as flat. Early news of Helena Bonham Carter’s performance was over hyped as her screen time is less that 30 minutes. If there is a gem in this film it is Anton Yelchin who plays the role of Kyle Reese. This film is good for its eye candy, but you will often find yourself not caring about most of the characters, and that really detaches you from the experience. Bottom line - this film is ok, but not great. The Movie Bandits recommend that you rent Terminator Salvation.

Gamer [trailer] - If you can imagine Death Race with less cars, you would imagine this film. The horrible character names could be a hint towards a horrible script, which couldn’t be that great for an action movie anyway. Usually any excuse to watch stuff get blown up will get us excited. However, this film is predictable and it doesn’t seem bad enough to laugh at. The Movie Bandits recommend that you download Gamer.

The Road [trailer] - Much like 28 Days Later and I Am Legend, this film deals with surviving after an epic disaster. What is not clear is the actual cause of the disaster, but the present danger in the film seems to be other deranged humans that intend on using Viggo Mortensen’s family to sate their own mortal desires. The Movie Bandits recommend that you see The Road in theaters.

Julie and Julia [trailer] - This film has most of the cast from Doubt dealing with a completely different issue, cooking. Angels and Demons - The Dan Brown book was a prequel, but this film is actually a sequel. However, this doesn’t affect more than a few lines. The special effects used to recreate buildings are easily picked out. The back and forth action of clues and action gets old fast. Comedic moments found throughout the film offer relief, but most show that “the rules don’t apply” or “no one was actually in danger”. Remember, if you liked The Da Vinci Code, it does not necessarily mean that you will like/dislike this film. The Movie Bandits recommend that you rent Angels and Demons.

Shorts [trailer] - Usually when a magical rock gives a young boy powers, that boy is on drugs. However, this is a kids movie. Shorts can be compared to Jimmy Neutron   and the 80s hit *Batteries Not Included. The primary audience is obviously not adults, but whoever is dragged to this film will pass out from boredom. The Movie Bandits recommend that you download Shorts.

Extract [trailer] -  This film has a premise, but it doesn’t really matter, because all of the funny parts seem to be detached from each other. Kristen Wiig may be annoying to some viewers, but in this film, she is supposed to be hated on. Mike Judge, Ben Affleck, and J.K. Simmons are all big names with great track records. We will be surprised if this film is not entertaining. The Movie Bandits recommend that you rent Extract.

G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra [trailer] - The cartoon was a bit before our time, but the concept is easy to grasp. This film only exists to be enjoyed. Many things, like the accelerator suits, may not make sense. Channing Tatum plays one of the lead characters, and based on his performance in Fighting, Gi Joe will be a better fit for his skills. The Movie Bandits recommend that you see GI Joe in theaters.

Star Trek - Fans of classic Trek may not find this adaption all that amazing. In order for the film to reach a wider audience much of the techno-babble was removed. Much of the film will remind the viewer of Star Wars, which is not necessarily a bad thing. For many it will be difficult to let go of the show we all know and love. For first time fans, Star Trek will be the most exciting film you have seen in a while.  The acting is well executed and generally matches up with the 1960s counterparts. It is hard to be critical as there is only so much time given to character development. If there is any low point to Star Trek, it’s the villain. Nero and his own actions are hindered by nonsensical plot holes. The Movie Bandits recommend that you see Star Trek in theaters.

Moon [trailer] - This entire film is resting on Sam Rockwell’s shoulders and his performance in Choke shows that he does have acting talent. Like many space films, Moon appears to take on typical twists. As long as this film doesn’t turn into a monster movie, The Movie Bandits recommend that you see Moon in theaters.

Downloading Nancy [trailer] - The intention of this film is hard to visualize as three different synopses can be made. As an independent film, Downloading Nancy has the chance to be very good. Fighting - This film is a failure among MMA films. The main character cannot actually fight, but somehow still wins by fluke or bursts of skill. Other critics may give this film a positive rating only because Fighting is so different from its perceived genre. The dialogue is bad and the plot is worse. Armored [trailer] - This film appears to be mostly about the theft of an armored car. Typically a film like this would have one of the thieves change sides. Pandorum [trailer] - This film looks like dead space, but it’s not. A space movie that starts as a horror movie is neither new nor interesting. Pandorum may not appear to be good at this point, but it’s still a film that could just be fun to watch. As more details are revealed this film could get better which is why The Movie Bandits recommend that you download Pandorum.

Crank: High Voltage - The direct sequel to Crank delivers on the promised over-the-top action, but too much of a mediocre thing isn’t good at all. The scenes of the film are intertwined in a way comparable to the format of Adult Swim and its 15 minute show blocks. Beyond the strenuous process involved in watching Crank: High Voltage lie many things you wish you had not seen. This film is an attempt at topping the absurdness of the first film, and in this case succeeding is really failing. Ghost of Girlfriends Past [trailer] - A Christmas Carol needed another remake and Matthew McConaughey has delivered it. The film’s ending is painfully obvious as McConaughey character retains a Polaroid given to him as a child from his true love. Inglourious Basterds [trailer] - For some reason Austin assumed that a lot of French people are depicted in this film. Unfortunately, Mike Myers was not depicted in the trailer that we saw. His character will define if this film is supposed to be funny in any way. For the possibility of great gore and action, The Movie Bandits recommend that you see Inglorious Basterds in theaters.

I Love You, Beth Cooper [trailer] - A nerdy student confesses his love and starts yet another teen movie. Normally we would expect Stibs to be excited for a Heroes actor in other media, but Hayden Panettiere doesn’t impress him. This film looks well done but the trailer doesn’t make much of a lasting impression. The Movie Bandits recommend that you download I Love You, Beth Cooper.

Observe and Report - We are happy that for once, the trailer didn’t give away the whole movie. The comedic moments in Observe and Report are paired by equally depressing moments, which is appropriate considering that Seth Rogan’s character is bi-polar. As the plot begins to wrap up the viewer is treated to many shocking moments, which are so unexpected they may leave your mouth hanging open. Unfortunately, Anna Faris has proven that she can only play one type of character, which has been the same since starred in Scary Movie. The Movie Bandits recommend that your rent Observe and Report.

G-Force [trailer] - This is a kid’s movie where tiny animals are supposed to save the world. There is a typical movie villain to deal with but the trailer is so vague that we had no idea. Children may find this film entertaining but there doesn’t seem to be much in the way of anything worth an adult attention span. The Movie Bandits recommend that you rent this film so your kids can watch while you read the newspaper.

The Ugly Truth [trailer] - Leonidas . . . I mean Gerard Butler, gives relationship advice to men in the style of Mad Money. This film follows a typical romantic comedy plot that is no less than obvious, yet Neil thinks he has predicted a different ending. The Movie Bandits recommend renting The Ugly Truth for few laughs and to keep the women in your life happy.

The Hangover [trailer] - “Dude where’s my recycled plot”? The Hangover isn’t that bad, but honestly, this is a road trip film. Hilarity will ensue from one scene to the next until you get your Mike Tyson LP. The Movie Bandits recommend that you go see The Hangover in theaters.

Fast and Furious - It is now apparent that fourth installment in the series is actually a prequel to Tokyo Drift. The only reason to see this film is the cars. Unfortunately, during most of the race scenes it is often difficult to see what’s going on. It was interesting to see Vin Diesel and Paul Walker go back to their roots, but Fast and Furious doesn’t add or change anything in the series. Therefore, The Movie Bandits recommend that you rent Fast and Furious.

Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs [trailer] - Oddly, the title may have been the only inspiration for this film. The CG used to bring the children’s book to life has a look similar to older hand animated films. However, there will be little beyond novelty for older viewers which is why The Movie Bandits recommend that you rent Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.

Where the Wild Things Are [trailer] - The second trailer of this episode is also based on a children’s book. The film seems to stay true to the book, but the trailer doesn’t really spell out what is going on. This may be fine for those who remember the book, but at the same time difficult for those who do not remember. Spike Jonze has a large background in directing music videos and this experience shows in many shots. For great source material and a great trailer, The Movie Bandits recommend that you see Where the Wild Things Are in theaters.

How do The Movie Bandits get away with rating movies when we have only see the trailers? Listen and find out.

Drag me into Hell [trailer] - Sam Raimi  also directed Spider-Man. Why is this important? We’re not really sure but this horror movie actually looks a bit like the Spider-Man Trilogy. The premise of this film isn’t all that original and Justin Long isn’t the best supporting actor. His skills are better suited to comedy

Sorority Row [trailer] - Mix  Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and shake over ice. This film may look delicious with all the young female actors getting chased by an undead killer, but it will leave a bad taste in your mouth when you realize what you’ve just done. It might be interesting to see who the killer actually is, and that is the only thing this film has over Drag Me to Hell.

Knowing - Thankfully this movie didn’t fall into a pit of The Number 23 math. The premise presented by the film is legitimate enough to keep you watching. When CG in used any viewer will be no less than stunned. Knowing is one of the few disaster movies that intensifies its realism by showing actual people being killed during disasters. However, Nicholas Cage has difficulty using his full acting ability when faced with an ominous protagonist. The Movie Bandits feel that Cage did a better job in Bangkok Dangerous.

Adventureland [trailer] - This film starts out as a college grad looking for and getting a job. However, it seems to be heading toward a typical romance that will end up boring you to death. Mentioning that the movie has the same director of Superbad, implies that this film has an unattainably high standard to live up to. On top of that, the trailer says this movie is about the worst job ever, when we feel that working at an amusement park could possibly be the best job ever.

Land of the Lost [trailer] - Will Ferrell has recreated the 1970’s version of the television show of the same name. The CGI of this film appears to be well done – says Asava, the expert. Land of the Lost definitely has the feel of a good Will Ferrell comedy, however it is targeted towards a family audience. While there are some good elements in this film, it still seems to be a stepping stone to his next blockbuster comedy.

Year One [trailer] - Jack Black and Michael Cera are running around within your favorite bible stories in this film. If you are a fan of Monty Python, there is a good chance that you will enjoy watching this one. There is some debate to why it has its current title. Stibs seems to think the film will cover the Romans and the renaissance.

Funny People [trailer] - Adam Sandler and Seth Rogan seem to have created a film worth watching. Sadly, the entire plot has already been spoiled in the trailer. There are more dramatic elements than are expected in this film though it seems to be similar to some of Sandler’s older movies.

I Love You Man - Paul Rudd should receive the award for longest period of awkwardness. This film is definitely something you should see with your guy friends (or girl friends if you’re a girl), doing otherwise may lead to your embarrassment and a socially awkward situation. I Love You Man will have you falling out of your seat laughing, if you’re a real man.

Surveillance [trailer] - This independent film looks as if it will be bending your mind into an over-salted soft pretzel. Official witness statements are contrasted with actual events to bring this thriller to life. Surveillance takes a simple approach to feed you the plot in sync with the characters. The first of two independent films in this episode, Surveillance looks like it will be only pure fun to watch.

Management [trailer] - Steve Zahn is usually hit or miss especially given this film is a romantic comedy. There doesn’t seem anything that special about this one. It might end up having some funny moments but this looks like a typical schmaltzy romance movie.

Observe and Report [trailer] - This film is eerily similar to Paul Blart Mall Cop, which didn’t quite deserve its own episode. However, Seth Rogan has a pretty good track record and this film poses to keep up his streak of good comedy movies.

Public Enemies [trailer] - Can Johnny Depp perform in a movie where he is not crazy or eccentric? Of course he can. This film has a similar feel to No Country for Old Men even though it is set in a different time period. Public Enemies offers up an old fashioned heist flick without the cliché gimmicks presented in films of the past decade.

The Haunting in Connecticut [trailer] - This is yet another horror film about a haunted house. While this premise has been proven to work, it is also played out. Many sudden loud noises can be expected to make to jump out of your seat, but the film will probably be forgotten ten minutes after you leave the theater.

Battle for Terra [trailer] - First of all, Terra is Latin not Spanish (tierra). Battle for Terra is, at its heart, a 3D animated film for kids. The subject matter however, is the nature of Humans to destroy everything in their path. While other films like Wall-E have underlying themes of solvable problems (e.g. lazyness), this film points out violent human nature which is not changeable.

Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun Li - Go play the better version of Street Fighter on a Sega Genesis instead.

Watchmen - Reading the book isn’t necessary in understanding this film, but it might help. Controversial nudity peppers about 15% of the film and is sometimes gratuitous as most of it seems to be pandering to fanboys. Most of the characters have their backstories presented in the film, each of which is presented at an appropriate time. Watchmen is a combination of societal commentary and amazing action. The computer generated parts are seamlessly woven into the action and, along with the sound effects, the music is very appropriate. Go see it in theaters but do not bring your kids or you will have the worst ride home ever.

The Taking of Pelham 123 [trailer] - John Travolta may steal the show from Denzel Washington in this film. Some of the trailer was reminiscent of scenes from Volcano. This appears to be a typical Denzel film, meaning lots of talking.

12 Rounds [trailer] - John Cena has basically remade The Marine in this film. We see some elements from Saw, Die Hard, and Crank, translating to basically an over-the-top action movie where many plot elements were exposed in the trailer.

Sin Nombre [trailer] - This film has the first look of Slumdog Millionaire but the similarities end there. Watching a movie in a different language can be distracting, though Pan’s Labyrinth turned out to be really good. The trailer is biased by an English speaking narrator so it is difficult to tell the true intent of the film.

The International - To start, this is a very long movie. The Guggenheim scene is definitely something to note as the building is very literally trashed. The parts of the film that seem to have the most importance have the least screen time. Clive Owen’s character is also overshadowed by other lesser characters in the film. While the plot is clear from the beginning, it is difficult to actually care about what is going on, and by the end it doesn’t even matter.
