The course is open to riders 18 years of age or over. Riders under 18 may be allowed attend on the condition that a parent also takes part and stays with the group at all times – please discuss this with the committee beforehand.

See the information on our Beginners Page for details on what to wear and bring. Helmets are compulsory for all riders – no exceptions under any circumstances.

We ask that riders have a minimal amount of fitness and riding skill (a few times mtbing is enough!), this course is not for those who have never been offroad before.

Bike Rental: Bikes can be rented from our sponsors Biking.ie at a very good rate. Drop them a mail info@biking.ie and mention the MAD Introduction Series and they’ll look after you!

Scott Walace placed second in juniors, Mark Mc Gauley third in the highly competitive super pro category while Paula Keohan dominated the super pro women to take top step on the podium.

The decision for Bike Addiction and Ireland’s Premier Mountain Bike Club™ to team up for 2013 was an easy one for both parties.

Our decision to sponsor MAD in 2013 stemed out of relationships formed at events in 2012. As the largest and oldest mountain bike club in Ireland, they are both extremely active and successful on all fronts of mtb racing. We felt MAD fitted in perfectly with our company profile and personal love of biking. We are riders first and foremost and have a healthy addiction to all things bike. Personally, I have raced the Mega Avalanche 3 times and have long been a huge fan of the enduro format.

Womens XC Mountain Bike Skills Weekend.
February 2nd & 3rd 2013 – Ballinastoe Trails, Co. Wicklow.

I am delighted to announce the first of our initiatives to increase womens participation in the sport of Cross Country Mountain Biking. Over the years we have been very fortunate here in Ireland to produce some incredibly talented female riders whom have gone on to represent us at International & Olympic standard. As part of my work as XC Development officer, I have joined forces with some of Irelands top female XC Racers and formulated some plans to encourage more women to try XC racing.

This Olympic sport, is a thrilling form of Mountain Biking, combining technical bike handling skills, tactic’s, endurance and lots of adrenalin. With so many women now participating in road cycling, we want to encourage with any interest at all to come along to a welcoming, fun environment whereby they can gain top class tuition from experienced racers and coaches.

The first weekend is coming up on February 2nd & 3rd in Ballinastoe, Co. Wicklow and is being hosted by Cait Elliot, Jon Hynes and other coaches. The cost of the weekend is just €25 per person and includes all tuition and entry to the fun race, Biking Blitz Round 1 on the Sunday. Mountain Bikes are available for rent if needs be for a nominal extra charge.

The weekend is open to all levels of riders, so if you are totally new to XC, then come along or indeed if you have already raced a little, then come along and we’ll hopefully help you improve your skills to the next level. Road riders are encouraged to try this, Mountain Biking is a great way of developing your bike handling skills as well as being fantastic fun.

There will be plenty of tuition on all aspects of Mountain Biking skills, info on training, racing, equipment and it will also be an opportunity to make new friends.
