Day Visit to Addo Elephant Park

A very popular outing for our guests has become a day trip to Addo Elephant park. Instead of breakfast they have an early “snack” of toast and coffee and then leave Mount Joy armed with a picnic basket filled with tasty treats, that we have provided, free of charge. We also book them on to a guided tour in the park, if so desired. The trip to Addo is about an hour and twenty minutes.

Tsitsikamma

The Tsitsikamma experience continues to be a popular pass-time. Treatops is at Storms-river Village and a number of our guests have done it.

Bird Watching

Jeffreys Bay has a huge bird population right on its door step. A recent guest of ours identified 56 varieties of birds between Kabeljouws and Aston Bay over a period of 5 days. The list of birds is on display in our pub.

Guest House celebrates first anniversary

On the 14th of December 2009 we celebrate our first anniversary at Mount Joy. Mount Joy had not been operating as a guest house for some four years and a lot of time and money was spent in establishing a website and advertising. The first six months were slow, but since the Billabong in July (where we were fully booked for the first time!), we hosted a steady stream of guests.

What a privilege to meet all these people and many hours of animated conversation have been enjoyed either round the dinner table or in our cosy pub. How we love living in this beautiful home and the spectacular views of the bay never cease to fill us with awe. Even now, whenever we see dolphins swim by we are amazed at their beauty and freedom in the water. One never tires of seeing these amazing animals.

Our honeymoon suite has enjoyed much popularity – no need to be honeymooners to enjoy it, but for honeymooners we offer additional spoiling, all inclusive in the price.

The Soccer World Cup starts on the 11 th of June 2010. We are only 70 kms from Port Elizabeth where some of the important games are being played. Stormsriver Mouth

We highly recommend a day trip to the Stormsriver Mouth in the Tsitsikamma Forest. The one km board walk from the resort to the suspension bridge over the river mouth is awesome. Picnic or barbeque on the grass close to pounding giant waves or dine in the restaurant close to a quaint beach, that all makes for a very memorable occasion.

Situated about one hours drive from Jeffreys Bay Stormsriver Resort also offers other attractions like abseiling, quad biking, river rafting and three top zipline tours through the forest canopy.

Jeffreys Bay

Jeffreys Bay is the doorway to the Garden Route near Port Elizabeth. Supertubes, the world famous surfing spot is a great attraction during the annual Billabong Pro surfing contest. Kelly Slater have won the 2008  event.This small little coastal town offers travelling opportunities, adventure sports and many other activities to the adventurous tourist.
