Are Atkins Diet And Low Carb Diets Safe? - Are low carb diets safe? How safe is Atkins diet? Are low carb and Atkins diets dangerous to your health? These are burning questions for dieters all over the world. I have personally tried low carb diets and Atkins diet and these diets made me lose weight very quickly. However not only did I lose body fat weight, I also lost muscle weight. I had very obvious muscle and fat loss because I can visually see my reduced muscle mass in the mirror.

This certainly isn’t healthy. Furthermore, the more muscle mass that you lose, the less toned your body shape is. The end result is that you will end up thin and yet looked flabby with lose skin.

The frustrating part will be that after you are off the low carb or Atkins diet, you will very probably gain back all the weight that you have loss and even more. This is because your muscles are active and they continuously burn calories. Since you have less fewer muscle mass now, your body’s metabolism or capacity to burn calories slows down tremendously.

In other words, when you put on weight again, you are putting on body fat instead of muscles if you do not exercise. You will be fatter and less healthy than before you went on the low carb or Atkins diet. To compound matters, because of lesser muscle tissues resulting in lower metabolism and thus lesser calories being burnt, you are going to get fatter.

Since then I have stayed off both low carb and Atkins diet. Both types of diets are almost similar as they require you to cut down drastically on your consumption of carbohydrates. Atkins diet went a step further by advocating almost no carbohydrate consumption for 2 weeks before adding some carbs to your meals gradually thereafter.

Besides losing muscles, how safe are low carb diets? This is what Dr Lyn Steffen and Dr Jennifer Nettleton from the University of Minnesota’s School of Public Health commentated in a Lancet report, “Low carbohydrate diets for weight management are far from healthy, given their association with ketosis, constipation or diarrhea, halitosis, headache and general fatigue to name a few.”

The doctors warned that the diet increases protein load on the kidneys and alters the balance of acid in the body. This also results in loss of minerals from the bone stores and affect bone strength. The doctors went on to say that, “Our most important criterion should be indisputable safety and low carbohydrate diets currently fall short of this benchmark.”

Dr Atkins, the creator of the Atkins diet died in 2003 after he was alleged to have slipped on an icy road and hurt his head fatally. However his medical report stated that he had a history of heart attack, hypertension and congestive heart failure.

Were Dr Atkins medical conditions related to his low carbohydrates diet is anybody’s guess. Do you want to take the risk by going on a low carb diet? I don’t think I will. If I ever want to lose weight again, I will rather go on the proven method of healthy eating and regular exercises instead of jumping on any fad diets.

A suicide bomber attacked a gathering of people receiving aid in northwest Pakistan on Saturday and at least 40 people were killed and 70 injured, officials said. Local police official Fazal-e-Rabbi said the bomber, dressed in a traditional women's burqa, first lobbed two hand grenades into the crowd gathered at a checkpoint outside the food center in the town of Khar on Saturday.

Rabbi said the attacker, who is believed to be a woman, then detonated an explosive vest. If true, it would be for the first time that a woman has carried out a suicide attack in the tribal areas of Pakistan.

"First there were two small explosions and people started running for cover. But within seconds there was a major blast and there were dead bodies scattered everywhere," witness Hussain Ahmed said. "It was very terrifying."

A crowd had cleared a checkpoint and members were awaiting their turns at a United Nation's World Food Program distribution center in Bajaur Agency headquarters, Khar, near the Afghan border, NBC News said.

"The attack took place when hundreds of people were gathered to receive food rations for people displaced by fighting," Wisal Ahmed, a government official in the Bajaur region on the Afghan border told Reuters news agency.

Wounded in critical condition
"I myself have counted 40 bodies but the death could rise as several wounded people are in critical condition," Dosti Rehman, an official at the main government hospital in the Bajaur region on the Afghan border told Reuters.

A hospital doctor in Khar said some of the seriously injured people had been sent to other hospitals at the nearby Dir district and Peshawar for better treatment due to lack of doctors and medicines in the tribal region.

"There are injured people lying everywhere and crying of injuries. Some lost their lives due to lack of timely healthcare," the doctor said.

Khar authorities appealed over loudspeakers for doctors and paramedics to go to the hospital with many health workers on leave for a public holiday.

Islamist militants battling the state have attacked buildings handing out humanitarian aid in Pakistan before, presumably because they are symbols of the government and Western influence. A suicide bomb killed five at a WFP office in Islamabad on Oct. 4.

But those waiting for food rations included hundreds of people from the Salarzai tribe, who may have been the target.

On Friday, 46 militants surrendered to the government through a jirga, or tribal council, of local elders in Siddiqabad area near Khar.

However, in the neighboring agency of Mohmand, to the south of Bajaur, 150 Islamist militants attacked five security posts Friday in an unusually large and coordinated assault, sparking hours of fighting that killed 11 soldiers and 24 insurgents, officials said.

A Taliban spokesman confirmed clashes but disputed the official death toll saying only two of their fighters were killed.

This guide will teach you how to flash/flex your Motorola ROKR E6 using RSD Lite. before that, did you has read Rokr E6 Transformer?? see here

Start your phone up in boot loader mode. To do this, hold down the camera button (top on the right side of the phone) and the Red power button at the same time. Your phone will boot up with a red screen which will say something similar to:

Now, connect your phone to your PC. You will see a Found New Hardware message with the Motorola Flash Interface, and perhaps a couple others.

Assuming you installed the drivers in the Get Connected section, you will then see the Your new hardware is installed and ready to use. message. If not, point Windows to your P2k drivers on the comp.

Open RSD Lite. I am using RSD Lite 3.5 in this tutorial, but I'm fairly sure anything 3.0 and up will work, maybe even previous versions. You should see a Model of NS Flash Bulverde and it should say Connected....

Click the ... button by the Filename menu and navigate to your firmware version you are installing. In this tutorial I am flashing R533_G_11.12.08P. (If you'd like to know what version you have, click here to find out how.) Once you have the file selected (make sure its unrar'ed), click Start.

Your phone will now look like it is off. Its not, don't worry--there just isn't any screen which indicates your upgrading the software. Watch RSD Lite as it goes through its motions so you know where you're at in the process. The entire process of the flash took me about 10 minutes, give or take.

The phone will hang out at 99% for a long time--over a minute for mine. Don't worry, its fine. It will then reboot, and go through another few processes.

1. Goto folder .system/java/DownloadApps/MIDletXXXXX/Files where XXXXX is a midlet runing number. and check for file .jar and .jad that this is a right midlet to be hack a permission.

2. go upper 1 folder to .system/java/DownloadApps/MIDletXXXXX/ and edit registry.txt in lines

4. 2 files should apprear in bootimage folder. bootimage.gif and cgversion.txt bootimage.gif is a gif image file. cgversion.txt is a text file that indicated version of your cg.

How to pack gif image to bootimage.smg
1. check in bootimage folder that It have bootimage.gif and cgversion.txt.

1. Making the scrollbars smaller (Vert. and Horz.)

This hack allows 4 icons on a row in the start menu instead of 3 and allows more to be viewed on the screen in IE:

• Go to: HKey_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\GWE\
• Adjust the following values
cyHScr : Horizontal Scrollbars
Height in pixels (default is 6, set it to 3)
cxVScr : Vertical Scrollbars
Width in pixels (default is 6, set it to 3)
• Soft-reset

2. Moto Q Speed Increases

The following 2 hacks increase system performance and makes the Q more responsive:

• Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\GDI\GLYPHCACHE\
Changed limit from 16384 to 32768
• Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS
Changed - CacheSize to 4096

3. Changing System Startup Sound

• Navigate to: \HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sounds
- At the very bottom of the list of entries, there an entry called AllSounds
- Open that up and you'll see a list of mp3 files.
- All you have to do is append your own audio files (mp3, wma, or wav) to the list. Then you have to make sure that you place your new audio clips in the \Windows folder so that they are accessible.
- The next time you go to the sounds events page, the drop down menu will contain the new clips you added.
• If you want to change the system startup sound, go to:
\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sounds\SystemStart \Sound
- Change the hidden wav file, \Windows\Piano.wav to \Windows\MY_WAV_GOES_HERE.wav
- I'd be really cautious about changing the startup wav. You don't want the phone to lock if the audio file doesn't load. I converted my wav to 16bit, stereo, 22khz WAV file. I didn't use mp3 or WMA. This seems to work fine.

4. Turn off Shutter Sound for Camera

• Navigate to:
\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\Pictures\Camera\OEM\Sou ndFile
• In the SoundFile key:
Modify the string/value \windows\shuttersound_02_secs.wav to say \windows\*none*
- Yes it should have the ** around none

5. Change Start Menu into List Instead of Grid

• Navigate to:
\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Shell\StartM enu
• Change the GridView value to 0 if you want list view.
• Change it to 1 if you want grid view.

6. Shut Off the Beep that Occurs When You Initiate a Call

• Navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\SoundCategories\InC all2
• Change String/Value InitVol to 0

7. Page Up and Page Down in IE

Key mapping for "Page Up" and "Page Down" in Internet Explorer

• Open your favorite registry editor then navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer
• Create a new key 'KeyMaps' (without the quotes)
• Under KeyMaps, create 2 new DWORD values:
50 with a value data 1 (this will make key "2" Page Up)
56 with a value data 2 (this will make key "8" Page Down)
- I created 2 more DWORD values:
52 with a value date 5 (this will make key "4" Page Left)
54 with a value date 6 (this will make key "6" Page Right)
The key name is the keycode you want. 50 = Key 2, 56 = Key 8, 52 = Key4, and 54 = Key
• Other DWORD values available are:
1 - Page Up
2 - Page Down
3 - Top
4 - Bottom
5 - Left
6 - Page Rignt
7 - Horizontal Top
8 - Horizontal Down
9 - Default Layout
10 - Desktop Layout
11 - One Column Layout
12 - Full Screen Toggle

• Exit registry editor once you have mapped it to your favorite keys.

8. Change VZW Image that is Above the # Dial Window

When you go to dial a # you will see a Verizon Wireless Image above that #.

To get rid of this or to change it...

• Upload the desired image to /windows.
The default VZW image is 240x27. However the author, tonyxcom, says: "Oh, and you can pretty much make the image any size you want. I made mine 320. If you make it any less wide, it will get stretched."
• Navigate to:
HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Shell/Rai/:MSCdial/
Click on the String/Value BannerImage
You will see in the String: /windows/16_brick_131.gif
Type in the string field: /windows/YourImagesName.jpg
YourImagesName.jpg being the name of the file you put in the /windows folder in Step 1.

9. Change Startup Microsoft Splash Screen

The file that we are dealing with is "ms_screen.png". The system uses this file for both the startup and shutdown screens. There are 2 ways to do this mod. The first is to create another image file named ms_screen.png, and move it into your windows directory. Of course it will need to be 320x240, and I would save in PNG format just to be safe. Be sure to make a backup of the original just in case you happen to botch something.
The method that I chose was to create a PNG file, again 320x240, and save it under a different filename. Then, move this file into the Windows directory. Now it's time to edit the registry to point to this new file.

The registy keys are located at: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Splash Screen
We are interested in the CarrierBitmap, MSBitmap, and MSShutdownBitmap keys. They point to the \Windows\ms_screen.png file by default. Change all 3 to the new filename, and restart the Q. You should see your new startup logo after the Verizon logo and animations, prior to your Home screen coming up.

10. Remove Sent Message Popup With SMS.

• Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Inbox
• Next, click on Inbox (make sure the Inbox is highlighted) and select Edit, New Key
• Name the New Key as "Settings"
• Click on "Settings" (make sure the Settings is highlighted) and select Edit, New String Value
• On "Value name:", key in SMSNoSentMsg and in "Value data", key in 1
• Soft reset your device and test it with one SMS, and you will notice that the SMS Sent bubble is being disabled

11. Increasing Call History

• Navigate to: \HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Phone
"CallHistoryMax" contains the number of numbers that will be kept in history. [ie. change it to 100]

[Here is one that I didn’t venture to try: ]

USB Native Tethering, Make DUN Settings Stick• To make the DUN setting (##342587) stick, do the following delete the following string value: HKey_Local_Machine\init\"Launch99"
• Exit regedit, dial in ##342587. Select OK, then Exit.
• Reset your Q.
Upon restart, the Modem Link app will be there indefinitely, lest you do the ##342587 again and disable it.
NOTE: Unless you take certain measures your phone can lock up 80% of the time.

It is not often we see a new rough phone announced these days. Most new releases are designer deviced with touch screens.

The Nokia 5210 and Ericsson R310 are classics in this segment but these models are no longer available. It has been tough times for Motorolas mobile division lately. Nice to see them back in business again. I can't recall seing a rough clamshell before. The Barrage might be the first.

There are currently no Sony Ericsson phones that should be compared to the X1. Nor are there any that can match the X1 in terms of features and functionality. If we were to take a comparing look at the global market of smart phones, we’d find a tiny selection of smart phones that are similar to the X1, but not a single of these is a match for the X1. More on this later in the review.

The X1 comes in a nice looking white and blue box in a typical square shape. While there’s really nothing wrong with the design of the box, the X1 is supposed to be a luxurious handset that is at the top of Sony Ericsson’s range. We would have wished that packaging had reflected this rather than just look like an ordinary product. Granted that this isn’t likely to be a deal breaker for many, if any, it is still something we would like to see Sony Ericsson address with future products in this category.

Note that the XPERIA X1 makes use of a mini-USB port instead of Sony Ericsson’s proprietary Fast Port connector, which means that you won’t be able to use your old chargers and accessories with the X1. The charger included in the X1 sales package charges the phone via the USB cable, so don’t throw this away! Speaking of accessories for the X1, Sony Ericsson has fortunately announced a few of these, including a cigarette lighter adapter, dubbed the CLA-70.

When you buy the X1 you will also get a 4 gigabyte memory card delivered separately, or at least that’s what happened with my X1. Other regions will receive a full length version of the movie “Hancock” on a 1 gigabyte memory card. I guess it depends a lot on your region and possibly also operator.

While we’re generally pleased with the bundled items, there’s no desk stand in the box, which would undeniably have been a nice addition to the X1.

Rogers BlackBerry Curve 8520 Devices

Over at Howard Forums, Treatz has advised that the Rogers branded 8520'S have been sent to some store locations and the rest will follow thorugh out the week. If you're lokking to grab one of these ya may wish to give a shout out to your local Rogers location and see if they have gotten any in, if you're lucky they may just sell ya one before the actual launch date as Rogers isn't really known for keeping devices under wraps. This one will set ya back $99.99 with 3 year contract with voice and data promos $45 and higher, a nice entry level price which should drop even further after a while. Offical launch should be around October 9th.

If you're in to hacking or modding files for smart phones, then here's a worthwhile task - try and mod/hack these SE G900 files to work on other UIQ smartphones.

I think the 4 apps below are what most P1 users wish to see on their UIQ smart phone:

Touch Focus is excellent for those snapshots where you can show off the powers of your smart phone. Apart from being a gimmick-y function it's also quite useful, as occasionally the camera does get the focus slightly off (for small subjects I wish to focus on).
Standby Panels could have made life so much easier if it was released much earlier. It's a brilliant idea and I have no idea why SE didn't release a patch or application for previous UIQ users.
Notes is another useful utility app which only those lucky devils with their SE G900 or G700 get. And I have no idea why SE decided not to release it as a standalone app - it's just got so much potential for business and casual users, be it really taking notes in a meeting or just random doodling.
Last but not least, I think more or less everyone wants to get a port of the Media player. It looks quite impressive and is definitely a step up from the default UIQ media player. To top it off a lot of K-series phones and other non-Walkman phones are now getting this newly improved, slick version of the media player so hopefully there will be a port available for the P1.

Things you need
