Early Christmas Wine + Help! The Mower Has Carked It!

But there is just one problem (that we are willing to share with our Moombaki friends!) and that is the clapped-out mower! It does it pretty tough; the vineyard rows, up and down the driveway (lots of rocks and branches!) and around the house gardens and orchards. We keep coaxing it back to life but now it’s had it, and the grass is up to my thighs (great for hayfever!) Unfortunately a catalogue arrived in the mail and Dave has now been seduced by a shiny, new, tough one! And the only way to pay for a mower is to sell s_ _t loads of wine! It’ll have to be an arm-twister for our mailing list, so I’ve got a win-win situation happening . . .

We’ve taken a further $18 off per case for our current release wines, and our special mixed case. So you get great wine at an amazing price (think of all those Christmas Parties coming up), and we get happy mowing days – yay!

It’s all happening at Moombaki!

What an amazing start to spring we have had! Warm sunny weather, interspersed with plenty of rain – the vegie garden is turning into a mass of variegated green foliage (only 3 weeks ago it was soil, mulch and weeds) and I think my hard work on the Bokashi Composting is already paying off; the vineyard growth is astounding and it’s hard to keep up with tucking in the foliage (c’mon boys off those damn screens and into the vineyard!); and I have never witnessed such an abundance of baby wrens, willy wagtails, honey-eaters – there is even a nest of wrens in a basket hanging from our verandah. The young steers we bought a few months ago have doubled in size (well they never stop munching, and Dave’s seaweed/fish spray has certainly boosted the pasture!). So it really is all happening!

Back into the pruning!

We had a lovely 3 weeks away and it’s taken about that long again to get back into the swing of things. Dave is busy in the vines, getting the pruning happening, but there are always a few distractions; the cows jumping the fences, getting enough firewood in to keep us nice ‘n toasty, cleaning up storm damage (yes, a few chardonnay vines suffered but will survive) and having the highest rainfall month we can remember (the wetlands filled up in just one night). Hardly conducive to being out in the elements, and a slight shock after our sunny reprieve, but loving all that sparkly green! Now we are past the winter solstice it’ll only get easier – right?

Mr & Mrs Moombaki are now back from their 3 weeks away, just in time for the Long Weekend, and the ever popular Denmark Festival of Voice. Our open hours are 11am – 5pm 7 days and we welcome you to come and visit the cellar door and try our lovely wines. Also we have some new art in the cellar door to check out! Have a great weekend whatever you are doing. Thankfully the sun is shining following the hugest downpour I can remember! Beautiful!

Mr & Mrs Moombaki are taking a little 3 week R&R from the 7th – 30th May. Yippee! And the lovely grandparents are going to be running the kids but not the cellar door. However Mel’s dad does love to chat to customers and give big tastings (we’ve tried to tell him not to!) so if you are planning to visit Moombaki cellar door during this time please give Jeff a call (he’ll be at 9840 8006 or 9848 3523, you can leave a message) and he will gladly open the cellar door and a few bottles! Just give him a bit of warning!

If you’d like to organise a delivery before we sneak off, please do so. She’s been with us for 18 years and was here before us, but Betsie is getting a bit unreliable and has given up a few times lately. She refused to see out the job of putting the nets out (sounds like one of the sons!) and she has been coughing a bit and has the odd leak (a fairly regular one actually), so we think she needs a bit of a session in intensive care. Pity Dave’s multitasking doesn’t quite extend to tractor mechanics, but the ol’ girl really does need some work. So we have put together a save the tractor fund and any contributions will be gratefully accepted.
