Disney Online Launches Two New Original Web Series Featuring The Muppets and Celebrity Chef Cat Cora "Muppets Kitchen" and "Hasty Tasty" Help Families Rediscover Together Time through Cooking

Disney Online, part of the Disney Interactive Media Group, launched two new original video series today featuring The Muppets and celebrity chef Cat Cora. "The Muppets Kitchen with Cat Cora" on Disney.com (www.Disney.com/MuppetsKitchen) inspires and entertains families through cooking and classic Muppet comedy, while "Hasty Tasty Cooking Tips with Cat Cora and the Muppets" on Disney Family.com (www.Family.com/HastyTasty) was created specifically for moms, offering recipes, step-by-step cooking tips and fun family-time ideas.

Moms In Business Acquires Giveaway Connection

The National Association For Moms In Business (NAFMIB), a program of The International Association of Working Mothers, has just acquired GiveawayConnection.com to expand its programs offered to members of NAFMIB.

The mission of Giveaway Connection is two-fold:

1- To support NAFMIB members in marketing their businesses by giving them another resource for social media marketing and marketing education.

2- To provide access to giveaways for members to enter.

The women running Silicon Valley Moms Blog and the 12 affiliate sites it spawned nationwide might be contemplating that lesson today. After four years of dizzying growth, the Palo Alto-based mommy blogging empire announced last month that it was shutting down.

The news left many in its network of 400 bloggers scratching their heads with their non-blogging hands.

Coverage for Americans Without Insurance Due to Pre-Existing Conditions Now Available

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced on July 1st, the establishment of a new Pre-existing Condition Insurance Plan (PCIP) that will offer coverage to uninsured Americans who have been unable to obtain health coverage because of a pre-existing health condition.

The Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan, which will be administered either by a state or by the Department of Health and Human Services, will provide a new health coverage option for Americans who have been uninsured for at least six months, have been unable to get health coverage because of a health condition, and are a U.S. citizen or are residing in the United States legally.

Created under the Affordable Care Act, the Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan is a transitional program until 2014, when insurers will be banned from discriminating against adults with pre-existing conditions, and individuals and small businesses will have access to more affordable private insurance choices through new competitive Exchanges. In 2014, Members of Congress will also purchase their insurance through Exchanges.

“For too long, Americans with pre-existing conditions have been locked out of our health insurance market,” said Secretary Kathleen Sebelius. “Today, the Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan gives them a new option – the same insurance coverage as a healthy individual if they’ve been uninsured for at least six months because of a medical condition. This program will provide people the help they need as the nation transitions to a more competitive and fair market place in 2014.”

Information on how to apply for the Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan is available at www.HealthCare.gov. Americans who live in a state where the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services is running the Pre-Existing Condition Plan will be linked directly to the federal application page. Those living in states running their own programs will also find information on how and where to apply on www.HealthCare.gov.

Availability of Funding for the Support of Pregnant and Parenting Teens and Women

The Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Public Health and Science today announced that it will begin accepting applications for the Pregnancy Assistance Fund.

Created by the Affordable Care Act, this competitive grant program will provide pregnant and parenting teens and women a seamless network of supportive services to help them complete high school or postsecondary degrees and gain access to health care, child care, family housing, and other critical support. In addition, States can use the funds to combat violence against pregnant women. This $25 million per year program will provide much needed financial assistance for states and communities across the country to provide supports for pregnant women and teens.

“The opportunity created by the Affordable Care Act will provide States and Tribes needed assistance to support vulnerable teens and women who are pregnant and parenting,” said Secretary Kathleen Sebelius. “The Pregnancy Assistance Fund provides States the opportunity to link these families to health, education, child care, and other supports that can help brighten the futures of parents and their children.”

NOW, is the time to start planning your marketing for the remainder of 2010. Not later, after summer vacation is over...it's too late then. Take time while you're hanging out by the pool or beach (or zoning in your office wishing you were by the pool) to really get serious and create a real action-oriented marketing plan with realistic follow through.

Here is our challenge to you: 90% of business owners don't take the two steps that will make them more successful in business. What are those steps? It's marketing your business and following through on new business.

Moms In Business News: Moms In Business Leaders Meet Michelle Obama

Gina Robison-Billups, Founder and CEO of the National Association For Moms In Business, and Barbara Trznadel, Nevada Leader for the organization, had the great honor of meeting First Lady, Michelle Obama yesterday. Both leaders of the organization were invited to meet the First Lady by Senator Harry Reid (D-NV) who has been a long and out-spoken advocate of issues concerning working mothers and mom business owners.

Gina was also invited to speak at the Women's Summit 2010 in Reno, NV sponsored in part by the Senator. The Summit, a sold-out event with more than 1600 attendees, focused on three pressing areas of concern to women: Finances, Green Energy/Environment and Health Lifestyle. Gina spoke on how women can support themselves and other women by stopping the cycle of underearning experienced by both women business owners and employees.

Barbara Trznadel took part in the First Lady's launch of the Let's Move Outside! program which is part of Michelle Obama's Let's Move! initiative to end childhood obesity within a generation. Kids need at least 60 minutes of active and vigorous play each day, and one of the easiest and most enjoyable ways to meet this goal is by playing outside. Let’s Move Outside! gives parents the tools they need to get their families moving outdoors. By linking parents to nearby parks, trails and waters – and providing tips and ideas – Let’s Move Outside! will help families become healthier and develop a more active lifestyle.

FCC Ruling Disappointing for Moms In Business
Last week, FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski announced a proposal to implement burdensome regulations onto the Internet. The National Association of Moms in Business is concerned about the impact that such regulations will have on the access and utility of broadband technology across the country.

Today’s working mothers rely on smart networks for applications like video conferencing that enable us to effectively work from home. The regulations announced have the potential to threaten necessary network investment and innovation that make such applications possible.

Under our country’s current economic constraints, we hope that the Commission will reverse course and promote policies that will support the success of small business and a more expansive workforce.

Jim Cicconi, AT&T senior executive vice president, external and legislative affairs said in a recent statement, "Make no mistake-when it regulates the networks that comprise the Internet, the FCC is in fact, and for the first time, regulating the Internet itself. There is no statutory basis for doing so-indeed it is directly contrary to Congress's stated intentions-and is being done without any compelling evidence that would justify a reversal of the FCC's prior decisions on this issue. If the FCC follows through with the chairman's stated intent, it will have a direct impact on jobs and investment in one of the areas of the US economy that many hoped could help lead the recovery."
