Winnie The Pooh And Tigger Fondant Birthday Cakes - Happy 2012!

It's a brand new 2012! We would like take this opportunity to thank our clients and subscribers for their suppport. For our readers who drop by on and off or incidentally, we would like to thank you for taking your time to read what we wrote and wish you a happy new year too!

In 2011, we had received more cake orders and gone through much challenge in cake design and also customer requests. The more people we met the more questions arise. Sugarpaste or fondant cake had become more popular and common though many more people haven't come across it. We don't mind to explain and tell you more about fondant cake from time to time. Hopefully more people get to know about fondant cake and its pricing.

Fondant cake is very different from fresh cream cake which is so common here and sold at most of the bakeries locally. It is made of a kind of hardened white icing which is colourable (with edible colours of course) and sculptable into different shapes and designs.

Like a play dough, we need to knead, roll, cut, press, mould (if there is a mould) and sculpt (free hand) the sugar dough to realize a desired design. The amout of time we spend varies from few hours to few days, not to mention the effort behind and well......nights of sleep sacrificed (aging faster, ha!).

Fondant cake is a form of arts that need a skillful hand and mind to perform and we have to do it slowly and carefully to produce a precious cake piece. How do you judge a design? There is no exact guideline. According to competition rules, no matter what design is executed, it has to be finished neatly and precisely. For instance, a Tigger must look like a Tigger and Pooh look like Pooh *grin* and the cake must not look messy.

Every cake designer has his own style. You can check out his/her portfolio for his/her style of design. Some designers prefer simplicity whilst others prefer more complicated design. Some are figurine experts whereas there are designers who are specialized in flower making, cake painting or piping with royal icing etc. There are many options available. So, a good survey would help to decide a designer who could fulfill your need.

Guess you know my style by now. Anyway, I wish I could be more versatile and try out other skills I had learned in 2011, i.e. flowers making and royal icing piping. So, stay tuned and subscribe to my blog perhaps for more updates, tee hee......

Mickey & Minnie Mouse Themed Cakes

After the post of 3-Tiered Minnie Mouse Cake earlier, another lady commissioned us to make it in single tier and red in colour for her daughter Adrine's 1st birthday. So, here it is.

This is Mickey themed birthday cake for 2 years old Ricky. He loves cars and hence the side of the cake were decorated with 3 mini cars. Hope the little one would have loved it.

3 Piggies Birthday Cake For An Aunt

This is the second cake for an Aunt's birthday. She got a roses cake with butterflies last year and now 3 piggies cake with a lovely message from Suh Shyan.

How sweet it is!

It's wonderful when you are able to touch one's heart. I believe the aunt is a great person in Suh Shyan's heart.

Josephine's 21st Birthday Cake

Today is the last day of my off day (from caking).

Sort of missing my baking and decorating times when I don't have to. It's the other way around though when I have to . I wish I could sit down and blog for all my oustanding cakes and cupcakes.

Josephine's 21st birthday cake, a 2-tiered bird cage themed cake in pink and white was another favourite cake of mine. Sally, Josephine's mom didn't forget me when it came to her daughter's special day of her life time -- 21st birthday. She had given her daughter a very precious memory by doing her a sweet and lovely birthday party.

Josephine with family. There are also 21 pieces of special cupcakes plus 80 pieces of simple cupcakes prepared. All in pink and white in line with the party theme colours. Oh ya, the decoration was done by Creative Tropicana Sdn. Bhd. and pictures at the party were courtesy of the company.

I managed to capture pictures of the cake at home. Love the white bird and buttrflies. They look so pure. Pink is the favourite colour of Josephine.

2-Tiered Clumsy & Gutsy Smurfs Birthday Cake

Clumsy & Gutsy Smurfs cake for Ayden. It's 2 tiered, top tier 6" round vanilla cake and bottom tier 9" square chocolate cake. Ayden's mom prepared Smurf goodies bags as well for his kindy's pals. On his special 'Smurfday', the Smurf boy Ayden was so excited!

This is Clumsy, I guess Ayden likes him the most! Ayden is 4, so the no.4 plate. Sugar balls were added to make the cake looked more fun!

He is Gutsy. Got to learn about this blue buddy only when Ayden's mom asked me to make him,hahah! This is the fun part of cake decorating, I get to keep a young heart while working out all these cartoon characters.

Thanks to Ayden's parents for coming all the way from Penang island to pick up the cake.

Toy Story Cake

This Toy Story cake was done quite a while ago but I missed to blog about it. How could I be so forgetful?

It's one of my favourite cake. My first time to do Toy Story characters too. I hope they look not much different from the actual characters. Let me introduce them:

This is Woody, the main character, a cowboy pull-string doll. I love his clothes.

They are Jessie and the horse Bullseye. Both of them are Woody's good friends. How does Bullseye look? A bit dumb, right? I love Jessie's smile and her big eyes.

Hope you love them too. They were sent to Nathaniel, 4-year-old boy at Permatang Pauh, Butterworth, Penang. He was so excited to see his cake pals, :)

Pororo Cake For 1 Year Old Zach

I wanted to do a Pororo cake for a long time. Finally, my dream came true. I propose a 2-tiered Pororo cake to a client who was going to celebrate her son, Zach's 1st birthday. She was so nice to say "yes!"

Yay! I googled for Pororo characters and even changed my computer's wall paper to Pororo and friends! Then, I sculpted out the figurines one by one and made them dancing, singing and clapping hands. See, how happy they are!

It is snowing yet they dance. Just like all kids love snow and rain.

My Cousin's Chinese Themed Wedding Cake And Cupcakes

My cousin was getting married. Mom and I made her a set of Chinese themed wedding cake and cupcakes in red, pink and white. I was in a rush until I had no time to snap the picture of the wedding cake at home. Worse, I forgot to bring my camera. These pictures were taken by my brother.

The cake was 2-tiered (6" + 9") with a pair of Chinese wedding couple as topper. There were 100 pieces of cupcakes with 3 designs, pink gumpaste roses, red fondant embossed 'xi' (means double happiness) and red heart on vanilla buttercream swirl.

I guess my brother was in a rush too while taking these pictures *grin*.

It was my first time watching my cake being cut at a cake-cutting session of a wedding ceremony.

Angry Bird Cakes For One Year Old Bianca

This 2-tiered angry bird themed is one of my favourite cakes so far. The top tier is topsy-turvy and golden eggs are introduced. I like the colour combination, colourful but not complicated.

"Stealing my golden eggs? No way!" Gosh! The war begins.

The Only Female Smurf - Smurfette Birthday Cake

Do you know that the only female smurf is called Smurfette? I just gotta know about it after googling for the name of her. She was the topper of my last smurf cake for a little 3-year-old Yi Wen. I made a mushroom house as requested and it was a cake inside, not sugar. That means you can eat it without getting too sweet on your tongue.

I like the cake very much with the little details here and there. I hope Yi Wen loves it too. Happy 3rd birthday, gal!

Anis who ordered a cake for her mom's birthday not long ago commissioned us another cake for his dad. Turquoise, brown and white were the colours she requested, "no other colour." again, she stressed it, hahah! The combination of colours and design were simply awesome, Anis' taste is really unique and outstanding.

The top round cake measures 6", coffee flavour and bottom square cake is 8" with chocolate flavour. Hope they enjoyed the cake.

2-Tiered Minnie Mouse Cake For 1st Birthday

Minnie Mouse, all girls love her. Vicky wanted her to be the theme of her daughter first year birthday cake. She ordered 2-tiered but I proposed a 3-tiered cake for her as the party was quite big, a bigger cake would look more presentable. I was so happy that she bought my idea, hehe...

The Minnie Mouse themed 3-tiered birthday cake is in pink, black and white with diameters of 6", 8" and 10" and topped with a large 2D Minnie Mouse head. The top and bottom tiers are rich dark chocolate and the middle tier is vanilla flavoured butter cake. The cake board is 14" wide.

Vicky's brother came to pick up the cake, he was so excited seeing the cake and told me that he wanted me to make his wedding cake soon, hahah! Thanks!

Disney Princess Cake For 2 Years Old Girl

It's a Disney Princess themed birthday cake for a 2 years old girl. Her aunt, Deva ordered the cake for her. The design idea was entirely provided by the aunt. She even bought the porcelain princess figurines to be put on the cake. Apparently, the birthday party theme is princess. Deva wanted everything to be in pink as well. She even made their guests wearing pink, hahah, it's a favourite colour of Mom And Daughter Cakes too!

The biggest challenge of the cake is the pole in the middle. What should I do with it? I was quite puzzled initially. Should I use cake pillar, bamboo stick or PVC pipe? How should I cut it? Should I wrap it with fondant or royal icing? So many question marks popped up on my mind because of a single pole, hahah!

Luckily, everything just came into place at last.

Money, Money Cake

Money, money, it's not about the price tag.......

Heard of this hit song? Hahah...a lady asked me to do a money cake for her man. Also, the cake was topped with a woman and a man, both of them love money, :)

I used edible images of real notes to give a realistic design. The cake is 6" in diameter and flavoured with chocolate. She loved it very much!

Red Roses Wedding Cake And Cupcakes

Red red roses, love! A set of roses wedding cake and cupcakes handcrafted and delivered to Flemington Hotel, Taiping. It was my first time driving so far to deliver and set up a wedding cake and cupcakes.

In fact, I was just asked to leave the cake at the restaurant, they would do the set up. But, I was afraid that the person-in-charge might not understand the way the cupcakes should be displayed, I told him, I'd better do it, haha!

They prepared a pink metal stand for me, I saw it, and got my eyes opened big, "oops!" :) No choice, I was hoping the overall view was acceptable, at least the colour of the stand matched the pink cupcakes and red roses, hahah!

Purple And Lime Green Birthday Cake For Mom

What a wonderful purple and lime green birthday party table set up, right?

I didn't expect it to be so gorgeous when the daughter, Anis commissioned me to make her mom a birthday cake. Yes, she asked for purple, lime green and white, no other colour! Hahah! I thought these colour combination were real cool and the simple design approach was my favourite, that's all.

When Anis mms me picture of the cake about an hour after my delivery, immediately I said "wow", it was amazing! Not only my cake but all the treats or dessert displayed and the decoration were done in the same colours. Even the cupcake wraps were specially designed with purple and lime green with white polka dots.

A sneak peak of the cake on beautiful cake stand and I love the candy pops and the kueh in the container, is that kueh bangkit? I am not sure.

I would like to thank Anis for choosing our cake to be part of this gorgeous set up. Wish her mom a blessed and happy birthday too! Cheers!

Chanel 2.55 3D Handbag Cake

It's a 3D fondant cake, it's Chanel 2.55 in black.

I didn't really know about Chanel models, when I was told 2.55, I thought what was it? A measurement or what?

It's a model actually. Luckily, I was given a picture as sample. I told myself, it's simple, not that difficult, I could do it.

But it was not the case. I faced one of the most difficult challenges in my cake decorating journey thus far. The making of Chanel 2.55's chain like belt was much tedious than I had imagined.

I had to redo three times to get what you see on the picture, no joke. Anyway, I learned a lot from this and I believe I could do much better if I am given a chance to make another similar bag in future, :)

Mc Queen Car Cake - On The Road In Penang

"I want a 3D Mc Queen car cake." When I received this order from a lady from Penang for her 3 years old boy, I was overly excited. How long had I been waiting for the opportunity to sculpt a 3D car cake? Almost 2 years, :)

3D cake is challenging but the result is fulfilling if you manage to achieve the shape required. Due to the technicality of it, the cost of the cake is also relatively higher. But, I tell you , whoever receives a 3D birthday cake, especially the kid would surely remember it forever......

How lucky Yi Hong was, yeah, you can see his name written on the logo of the car and he is 3 now. Yi Hong also got his pals in school a box of cupcakes each. Hope they all like the cake and cupcakes specially ordered by his mom.

I wouldn't call this a jungle themed birthday cake though it is actually modified version of my previous jungle themed birthday cake for children. Why? Because Goofy is here! :) And, this cake is meant for an adult.

It's a 2-tiered cake full of animal characters with the name of whom each animal represents stated. They are a group of chefs in real life actually.

A pair of hippo couple are happily bathing together whilst 2 monkeys are peeping.

Angry Birds Cake For One Year Old Girl

Angry Birds frenzy doesn't stop but gets even hotter.

The mom of one year old girl Elise had commissioned us to do an Angry Birds themed cake for her daughter. Yes, why not huh? It's not necessary to ask for a tiger topper (most one year old kid's zodiac), ever popular Mickey or Minnie, Winnie The Pooh or other famous cartoons themed cakes. We can always introduce one year old toddler the latest trend via a birthday cake.

Four of the main Angry Birds characters. Though they are angry, they are supposed to be good birds. I'm not good at playing the game, used to lose at the initial rounds...hehe...

Yeek, the green creatures are the pigs always get attacked by Angry Birds. Sometimes, I pity them too. What have they done that they always get attacked?

Perhaps before I make the next Angry Birds cake, I should study the story behind :)

Another girlish baby birth announcement card design. Baby Wi Xun was 3.25kg and 51cm during her full moon. The mom also favoured pink and white and simple full moon gift pack. We just customized to her delight. She was so happy during collection of the gift packs.
