<p>DemoCampHamilton8 is a FREE event featuring a keynote speaker,
about five software demos (includes demo and Q&amp;A) and socializing. </p>
<p>Keynote:
Mabel’s Labels is a wonderful Hamilton success story, over the last 10 years
the company has grown from 4 founders operating out of a basement to 40+
employees in a 14,000 square foot location.  Other presenters include <a href="http://www.weeverapps.com" target="_blank">Weever Apps</a> (will
demo the new MyHamilton app), <a href="http://www.apptui.com/" target="_blank">Apptui</a>, <a href="http://www.refficient.com/" target="_blank">REfficient</a>, <a href="http://eventity.ca/" target="_blank">Eventity.ca</a>

<p><strong>More about the Line-up –</strong></p>
<p><strong>Demo 1</strong></p>
<p>Mabel’s
Labels IT Manager Anand Sinha will discuss why the company built software for
image manipulation, why they have built their own website with their own tools,
how they’ve created an end-to-end system, why their software works better than
many commercially available products, what they’ve done to improve production
through automation, as well as challanges the company continues to face and how
Mabel’s Labels is solving these challenges.</p>
<p><strong>Demo 2</strong><br />
<a href="http://www.apptui.com/" target="_blank">Apptui</a>
- The Remote Control For Your Online Life. Apptui lets you watch, play, and
surf everything on a big screen, using your smartphone as the mouse, touchpad,
keyboard, custom interface or game controller. Other apps may
let you do very specific things with your PC and connected TV, and nothing
else. Apptui lets you do everything, from one app, using nothing more than your
phone’s browser. Put your feet up at home, and just go! Apptui is fast,
secure, and awesome.</p>
<p><strong>Demo 3</strong></p>
<p><a href="http://www.refficient.com/" target="_blank">REfficient</a>
(<a href="https://twitter.com/refficient" target="_blank">@REfficient</a>) is an online reuse marketplace
for businesses – allowing you to go shopping in another companies’ surplus
inventory. By optimizing reuse, companies save money on equipment purchases and
keep product out of landfills.</p>
<p><strong>Demo 4</strong><br />
<a href="http://eventity.ca/" target="_blank">Eventity.ca</a>
(<a href="https://twitter.com/EventityCa" target="_blank">@EventityCa</a>) – “Social Discovery in your
Community” – a web app designed to help discover what people are planning,
doing, and recommending across the city. It provides a centralized way to
search for events from sources such as Facebook, Tourism Hamilton, Tourism Burlington,
View Magazine, SNAP Hamilton, Hamilton News, and Kijiji.</p>
<p><strong>Demo 5</strong><br />
Hamilton Times is a collaborative open-data repository of public events for the
city of Hamilton. A centralized pool of accessible data allows sites,
individuals, researchers, and developers to make use of only what they require,
while novel ingest methods aim to lower the technological barriers to
participation. With the initial stages of the project complete, and several
community stakeholders already involved, it seeks to further expand with
additional developer support. Demo by Dwayne Ali (<a href="https://twitter.com/interestica" target="_blank">@interestica</a>)
and John Fink (<a href="https://twitter.com/adr" target="_blank">@adr</a>).</p>
<p><strong>Demo 6</strong><br />
A HAZMAT robot designed to assess an environment in real time to assure its
safety before personnel enter the area. With a simple interface anyone who has
played a video game can drive it. Demo by <a href="http://roboteurs.com/" target="_blank">Roboteurs</a> (<a href="https://twitter.com/roboteurs" target="_blank">@roboteurs</a>).</p><xhtml:img xmlns:xhtml="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/MohawkMatters/~4/wjdIzfZSNvI" height="1" width="1" /></div></content>

<p><strong>Where:</strong>            Fennell,
Brantford (Elgin) and STARRT campuses</p>
<p><strong>When:</strong>             Week
of Sept. 17 – Sept. 21, 2012</p>
<p> </p>
<p>Mohawk College is committed to making our campuses
safe for students, staff and visitors. As part of this commitment, the college
will be holding a series of <strong>Emergency Lockdown
Drills</strong> at the Fennell, Brantford and STARRT campuses between <strong>Monday, Sept. 17, and Friday, Sept. 21,
2012</strong>.</p>
<p>The Emergency Lockdown Drills are needed
to test the college’s revised emergency response plan and lockdown procedures,
particularly at the Fennell Campus where recent renovations have significantly
changed the interior layout of the campus buildings.  The drills will help identify areas where plans
and procedures can be improved and
provides a good opportunity to test department specific plans developed in the
spring.</p>
<p>During the drills, please follow the
actions listed on both the Quick Reference Card <a href="http://www.mohawkcollege.ca/Assets/Security+and+Parking/Emergency+Evacuation+Procedures.pdf">http://www.mohawkcollege.ca/Assets/Security+and+Parking/Emergency+Evacuation+Procedures.pdf</a>.
This information is also available in the college’s Emergency Lockdown Procedure:
<a href="http://www.mohawkcollege.ca/Assets/Policies/ERP809.pdf">http://www.mohawkcollege.ca/Assets/Policies/ERP809.pdf</a>.</p>
<p>It
is a good idea to download and carry the Quick Reference Card with you so you
are prepared for the drill.  Additional
copies of the card will be made available at the Library and Student Services
locations at each campus.</p>
<p>The
following is a description of how the drills will be carried out at each
campus:</p>
<p> </p>
<ul>
<li>For each campus on the morning of the drill there will be a
message alerting staff and students that a Lockdown Drill will be taking place on
that day; however, the exact time will not be given. This is being done to make
the drill as authentic as possible and improve the quality of data collected by
the observers. </li>
<li>Five minutes prior to the start of the drill, there will be a
5-minute warning that is broadcast on the campus PA system. This message will
be repeated several times.</li>
<li>The warning will be followed by a recorded message indicating that
an emergency lockdown is in place and that it is only a drill.</li>
<li>Upon hearing the announcement students and staff are asked to
follow the procedures listed on the Quick Reference Card.</li>
<li>Once the drill is complete, the “All Clear” will be given over the
campus PA system, and you may return to your normal activities.</li>
</ul>
<p>Thank
you for your patience and understanding. The college realizes that drills of
this nature can be an unwanted distraction, but they are needed to maintain the
highest level of safety and security for our students, staff and visitors.  The drills also
provide a good learning opportunity for participants to become informed about
the procedures.</p>
<p>If
you are a student or staff member at Mohawk’s IAHS Campus at McMaster or the Mohawk
Laurier (Odeon) Campus in Brantford, please note that the emergency response
procedures may be different at these locations. Please refer to the links below
