Aerohive Networks has released it’s latest upgrade to its AP operating system. HiveOS3.4 and HiveManager3.4 now incorporates Performance Sentinel and Airtime Boost. IT administrators will be able to assign a minimum throughput guarantee to each 802.11n client. The system will then monitor the client’s compliance with these set levels. The system will automatically take action should throughput levels fall below the minimum SLA set using its Boost feature.

Traditional QoS has been about prioritising voice packets, but it effectivness can be hard to judge. Teh Aerohive system will provide information on how every client is performing and take automatic steps to keep all of its guaranteed throughput levels.

TalkTalk are looking to offer customers in Muswell Hill, London and Whitchurch in Cardiff, Internet access speeds up to 40Mbps, this is possible due to the deployment by Openreach of FTTC technologies in these areas. This overcomes the limitation of LLU and the extended copper lengths from the Telephone exchange to the customer modem . This had previously limited the download speeds. The supporting network equipment is now based much closer the customer premises.

TalkTalk will leverage the BT Openreach FTTC (fibre to the cabinet) network that enables up to 40Mbps. If this trial proves successful TalkTalk will extend the service across the network as the new infrastructure is deployed.

Upload speeds are expected also to increase as the trial progress as the old one way (ADSL – Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Lines) which could only offer high speed downloads in one direction, to move towards the new type VDSL services which can support high speed in both directions. This will finally enable those home workers who experience lightning fast download to also get higher upload speeds initially starting at 2Mbps but ultimately moving towards 5/10Mbps, this will enable them to be able to send files in emails, videos or connect to corporate networks with the same experience as the currently get on download.

Third Generation Technology Delivers Industry-Leading Capacity and Lowest Per Port Power Consumption

Force10 Networks®, a pioneer in building and securing reliable networks, today introduced the ExaScaleTM E-Series family of switch/routers to meet the stringent performance, management and cost requirements of today’s virtualized data center and cloud computing environments. As enterprises transition to virtualized data centers and adopt cloud-based services, the network is increasingly required to be more dynamic and responsive to changing resource demands. The Force10 ExaScale E-Series is designed to deliver the performance, availability, resiliency and flexibility essential to power these new dynamic environments while significantly lowering total operating and management costs.

“As one of the world’s largest centers for scientific research, CERN’s advanced network delivers 100 Gigabits per second of aggregate bandwidth to collaborators around the globe and is the key link in our total chain of information capture and analysis,” said David Foster, Deputy Head of the IT department at CERN. “The Force10 ExaScale E-Series has demonstrated the ultra throughput and buffer management that will ensure the application reliability and performance we require to support our more than 9,000 scientists around the world.”

With support for the industry’s leading line-rate 10 Gigabit Ethernet densities, theForce10 ExaScale E-Series reduces capital costs and simplifies management to reduce ongoing operational expenses.

The ExaScale E-Series also extends Force10’s history of enabling cost-effective network ownership with an energy-saving, eco-efficient power and cooling design that provides the industry’s lowest power consumption per line-rate port. Patent-protected advances in backplane and chip design as well as custom designed power components reduce overall system power consumption and lower per port consumption by as much as 70 percent versus comparable competitive platforms.

Enabling Force10’s Virtualization Framework to Fuel Competitive Advantage
The ExaScale E-Series is the foundation for Force10’s Virtualization Framework and provides the multi-terabit platform required to power advanced data centers and cloud computing environments. As budgets have come under pressure, enterprises are turning to virtualization technologies that increase business critical application availability while lowering the total cost of IT infrastructure ownership.
