I am a single mom, and my home is made up of my baby boy and I. I work in customer service for a health insurance company and live paycheck-to-paycheck. I had an unexpected surgery, which led me to miss work. The amount of work I missed, was enough to set me behind. In addition my electric bill was higher than normal due to the cold months, and I fell behind.

I kindly seek your assistance to help me afford my electric bill, which twice the normal amount. I am extremely worried, as my funds do not allow me to pay my regular monthly expenses, as well as this outstanding bill. I have tried to pick up extra hours at work, but am so far set back, that my bi-weekly pay will not allow me to catch up in time.

I am a mother, a wife, and a cancer survivor. As a result I am disabled, and can work only part-time. I have incurred a medical bill, which my husband's insurance will not cover. Because of the many medically related bills we have, I have no choice but to turn to Modest Needs for assistance.

Medical bills, relating to my condition, always weigh us down, but not paying them is not an option, since I need ongoing care. Trying to stay ahead is difficult. I have tried to work something out with the hospital, but am not able to get on an appropriate payment plan. Please help me afford this!

Good Day! I have worked for a long time as a realtor, but due to the market crash I lost a lot of what I had. I am single and currently living with a few family members who are assisting me during these diffcult times.

I now have some prospective work in my filed and am asking for Modest Needs assistance in re-obtaining my brokers license. Hello, I am an individual suffering from mental health issues, which have been a burden to me for many years. Before I was considered disabled, I was a driver for a transport company and also a line cook. I currently pay rent and am responsible for my own bills. I live on a small fixed income, and usually have hard time affording emergencies.

I need help from Modest Needs with a large car repair bill that has to do with the safety of the front end and steering. When I drive the car, it bounces all over the road when I hit bumps and it can be uncontrollable and scary. I don't want to cause an accident and hurt anyone or myself. I only make a small amount each month and would never be able to pay this kind of bill on my own. If I don't get my car repaired, I will not be able to go to the clinic and make my mandatory medical appointments.

I am a father of a 14-year-old boy who I am raising with my fiancé. I am a machine operation for a local factory and my fiancé is in between jobs, as she is having no luck on the job market. My job is normally sufficient to pay our bills, however I was injured at work and had to have surgery. I will be off for two more weeks, and during this time Workers Comp is paying only a percentage of my wages.

I am turning to Modest Needs to seek assistance with our rental payment. I have never before been late on rent, and have never sought assistance. We will be fine once I am back to work this month, but in the meantime we might lose our home. Without assistance we will have to choose between rent, car payment, utilities and food, and I just cannot do this on my own.

I was reluctant to ask for help from strangers at first, because I've always paid my way. This experience of unexpected, accidents or medical expenses always happened to the other guy. I am 66-years-old and suffering from multiple forms of cancer, for which I am getting treatment. I live in an apartment beneath my step-son's home and am divorced and alone. As a result of my health issues I am no longer able to work and live on a fixed income from Social Security. I am determined to continue to fight the cancer and enjoy life as much as possible.

My washing machine recently broke. I need to replace it, because I have shortness of breath, difficulty moving (I walk with a cane), and use a HoverRound if I have to walk more than a few yards. It has been difficult for me to wash my clothes, but at the same time I am not able to afford these essential appliances with my tiny income.

Funding this application would be a huge blessing! It would mean peace of mind for my family, because they are nervous wrecks knowing I travel up and down flights of stairs with breathing and balance issues while they are at work to do laundry. I am a married woman and mother of five children, ranging from 5 to 14 years old. My husband and I were both deployed oversees with the military to Iraq and Afghanistan. We both suffer from PTSD and try to do our best as a family.

Recently we noticed that our ceiling was falling through. We found out that our roof was going bad and had to have it repaired in its entirety. The cost for that was immense, and even though we have paid for a huge part of it, we just cannot afford it all. That is why we are turning to Modest Needs. We did not expect this expense and try to save for emergencies, but unexpected expenses have been arising lately. A few months ago I had to buy a new car because my transmission died, and to replace it was almost as much as a new vehicle.

I am a 55-year-old woman living on my own. I suffered two strokes, which restrict the types of work I can do. I was working at home with substantial pay to meet my expenses including rent and utilities. However, in February I lost my job due to being unable to work for medical reasons. I am now re-employed, but at a lower rate, and although I will be able to make ends meet again, I do not have the ability to catch up with the bills I fell behind in.

I need help form Modest Needs to afford my back rent, which resulted during my time in between jobs. If I cannot get help, I will likely be evicted, or will have to not pay other bills or buy food in order to catch up. I am stressed and depressed, and very afraid of where I would go, if I were to lose my home.

Funding this application would be a great help to me not just for the short term, but it means I can get back on track with my budget and I won't have to lose my home. I am 35 and disabled from a nearly fatal car crash, as well as additional health problems. I have no children and have never been married. I am alone and just had knee replacement surgery resulting in numerous bills that I had to pay out-of-pocket. Being that my only income is from Social Security only, it is very difficult for me to afford for unbudgeted expenses.

I need help from Modest Needs to help me with one of my medical expenses. Before and after my surgery, I needed to use a transportation service in order to get to and from the hospital. As the operation I had was for a knee replacement, I could not really move without assistance, and thus acquired this bill.

Funding this application will help me tremendously as this bill has added much additional stress to my recovery from this major surgery. I have three grown sons and five grandchildren. I have worked for the government for 19 years and managed to raise my children as a single parent by working two jobs for many years. I bought my own home and was never on public assistance.

Because of the nature of my job, we have a temporary seasonal layoff once a year, this is normal and I always budget for it and pay my bills on time. This year, it was a longer layoff than usual due to the budget standoff. Around the same time my son was shot in the knee and robbed. He had no health insurance and had to be nursed to health. I had sufficient expenses in relation to that, which I had not accounted for.

I am turning to you, because due to the recent events I was not able to afford my monthly mortgage payment. I desperately need to catch up, so that I can afford my other bills, and do not lose my home.

I have worked at my position for 29 years, but have been very ill since November, and have not been able to work. Since then I have been receiving only 60% of my pay, all the while going through a nasty divorce. I am a widow and live in an RV next door to my daughter. I haven't worked in a few years due to heart problems, and am on several medications as a result. I have to go to regular doctor's visits for my condition and also for my arthritis, which makes it very difficult for me to walk. I use a cane and ride in the chairs when I have to go to the store.

I am turning to you as my only vehicle is in poor shape, and my tires are really old and unsafe. Being that I live on a fixed income, I do not have the funds to replace them. This concerns me, as I need my car for doctor's appointments, grocery shopping, and to help my daughter with my grandkids. I am a single 49-year old woman that has not been able to work since 2010 due to Multiple Sclerosis. I was able to complete my MA in Human Resources Management last year, and am constantly looking for jobs that will accommodate my expertise and medical needs. Lately I have incurred a number of unexpected expenses as my car was stolen, and upon recovery I had to pay my large insurance deductible in order to fix it from the damage it had suffered.

I am a single woman living on my own. I have several blown discs in my lower back and arthritis, due to which I am not able to work. I also suffer from a number of other conditions, as a result of a bad reaction to antibiotics. My only source of income is from social security. I get just enough for basic expenses such as utilities and groceries.

I am seeking assistance because my car is in bad shape and needs to have the timing belt replaced. I am afraid that with my tight budget, I cannot afford this. I am a 52-year-old single male with two small doggies, one of which is a service dog. I worked for an airline many years, but have not been able to as a result of a back injury. I currently only receive Social Security Disability Insurance, and have a hard time affording anything out of the ordinary.

Last week my vehicle was vandalized. The car cannot be driven without windows and all of the damage it sustained made it unsafe to drive. I am a single mom of one wonderful little boy. My son is 7-years-old and means the world to me. His dad decided a long time ago parenting would not be of any interest to him. I do not have any local family and my mom passed a few years back. I work very hard to support my boy and ensure he has the best life possible.

For the month of February my son required physical therapy due to a motor vehicle accident. I understand accidents happen and I felt it was in his best interest to ensure he had physical therapy to give him the strongest chance of normalcy. As a result of this, I was not able to afford my rent.

I am terrified of getting evicted, but my son's wellbeing comes above everything, and I had no choice but to spend what money I had to help the healing process. I am trying to make up the income lost by working as much overtime as possible, but am not able to make it up fast enough.

I am a 49-year-old man, living on my own and suffering from Lymphedema in my lower legs. I have very limited mobility and rely on my vehicle in order to get to my doctor and for errands. I had to stop working two years ago, because my condition became too painful to bear. I moved to a handicap-equipped apartment last year and live on a fixed income, making me unable to afford anything extra besides my regular monthly expenses.

I am turning to Modest Needs in order to make my vehicle safe to drive. Returning from the doctor last week, my 'Check Transmission' light came on, and I immediately called the repair shop. The cost to fix the problem is way beyond my means to afford, and I am turning to you to help me with this, so I can continue going to the doctor on my own and being independent. I have already canceled appointments due to no transportation and I am afraid of doing so again.

I am divorced and have 2 children. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and had to work several years as an associate before being fully licensed. After receiving a job offer I moved from GA to IL in March, 2011. While I work full-time, and enjoy what I do, I have very little left from my pay, once my monthly bills are paid, and cannot put money aside for emergencies.

I have needed a new crown on my tooth for the past 4 years, and finally the pain and damage in the tooth reached the point that the crown must be replaced or else I will loose my tooth.

I am asking Modest Needs to help me cover the out of pocket expenses related to fixing my crown. I have been in a tremendous about pain and did not want to loose my tooth!

I work at an EAP (employee assistance program) doing needs assessment for people all over the country. There are times I feel powerless trying to offer counseling to these callers, because the fear, anger, frustration, sorrow and humility I'm hearing in them mirrors my own. By the end of the call, the person I spoke with is releaved to know that someone cares, and while their entire situation may not change, parts of it will. I live with my husband and five year old daughter. I was laid off in 2010 and recently returned to work at a full-time annual salary. I am a grant writer/project manager of nonprofit public health programs. During my layoff, my husband was able to support the family through job, however, he lost his job before I found mine, and we suffered a period without any income.

Our situation led us to fall back the payments to our only vehicle. Our car is our only means of travel to and from work and to get our daughter to school.
