All too often however, link building is associated with questionable SEO practices such as link buying or link spamming. As an old school online marketer and PR guy, I tend to take a different approach to my link building philosophy, and see link building as more of a branding and web presence approach.

That’s sound advice and it is particularly appropriate for Google, since Google puts a great deal of weight on links. Bing and Yahoo seem to value them slightly less and of course their share of search is also very much less.

Many A Mickle Does Not Make A Muckle

The old Scottish saying would confirm that if you add sufficient small things, it can add up to something substantial. However it may well be with the Google search algorithms the down-weighting of spam-type links is so severe that there is no SEO benefit by creating them. There are a wide variety of spam-type links including illogical reciprocal links and links from dubious websites. In the worst case such links might even lead to penalties, if the website is deemed to have breached the Google Quality Guidelines. As Baker points out even links that appear on a site-wide basis in sidebars or footers may well be also very much devalued.

Creating Link Value

A much surer approach is to create content on the website that is of interest to other humans, thus attracting unsolicited links from admirers. It is useful to have a diversity of online content. Baker has some most useful information on building out diverse links in a Link Building Evaluation Guide.

The role of blogs in all this should be emphasized. The blog structure naturally creates a number of associated web pages for any single blog post. All of these support extra internal links. Although less valuable than independent external links, they do add real link value. At the same time, the RSS news feed pings the search engines and ensures that the blog is on their (robot) radar screen. Writing well constructed blog posts is perhaps the surest way of expending effort to get more search engine visibility.

About the Author: Barry Welford, President of SMM Internet Marketing Consultants works with business owners and senior management on Internet Marketing strategy and action plans to grow their companies. Is your social profile, website or blog Social Energy Optimized to attract the attention of those using social networks like Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and others? Do you have an action plan to capture and communicate with any visitor to your site? If you do not, you need to start re-thinking your overall internet marketing strategy now!

To many their internet marketing strategy is one dimensional, based on what they have learned, know or feel most comfortable doing, but this is like driving a car with one, two or even three flat tires. It might move forward, but it scrapes along and finally dies. The reality is that there are four key components necessary to develop and implement an effective and successful marketing strategy that will give your internet presence the energy and velocity necessary for success. Even with a core strength that has gained you success. You need to focus on all four to establish an effective marketing strategy. They are:

* Content - Some are great writers, so they focus on developing creative content and information to share with the world.
* Search - There are web designers and code phenoms, who build creative well optimized sites that look great and ranked by the search engines.
* Social - Then there are strong social networkers who drive traffic to their sites through their efforts on portals like Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin.
* Communication - Finally there the sales people who are great at emails, newsletters and communication in order to grab the visitor and monetize their site.

The question is... which are your strengths and which are your weaknesses?
Social Energy Optimization

I want to discuss how the Social component (both social networking and social marketing) is becoming the other SEO that you can not ignore if you want to achieve true success for your internet presence, whatever your site goals and objectives are.

We put some much emphasis on optimizing our sites for the search engines (which is important), but many totally ignore the opportunity to quickly drive people to their website/blog through a well planned and implemented Social Marketing Strategy.

I am not saying abandon your PPC or search marketing efforts. I am saying that you should work to enhance your overall strategy and that early on in developing your marketing vortex, you can potentially generate more traffic and link energy to your core website/blog though the effective use of social networking. Setting up sites, pages and profiles on multiple social networks that are Social Energy Optimized to drive traffic to your core site and linking to your content, search and communication efforts enables you to generate real energy and velocity for your core site.
Establish Your Social Marketing Strategy to Optimize Social Energy

Social Energy Optimization can be a fast an effective way to create traffic as it truly combines your content, search, communication and social efforts into a marketing vortex that will attract true link energy and opportunity for your website/blog..

To learn more about how you can use Social Networks and effective Social Marketing to expand your web presence I have created a video you can watch at the Bssential Small Business Solutions website at http://www.bssentials.com

Bio-

With over thirty years experience as an entrepreneur, an executive, an author and as a management consultant, Bill Sifflard a long history of experience and success establishing start-ups and bringing innovation and efficiency to small business.

Social Energy Optimized - The Other SEO You Can Not Afford To Forget

Social Media and Internet Marketing Training

Are you creating social traffic and link energy for your website or blog through an effective social marketing strategy? No doubt. However, you can "repurpose" it and strategically distribute it on the Web, and this will not hurt your search engine/Google SEO efforts.

This is something I refer to in my SONAR Content Distribution Model TM and has helped my clients’ quantifiable increase traffic rank, traffic visits, leads and sales.

SONAR is a cost effective, yet powerful, method of re purposing and synchronizing content (albeit text, audio, video) distribution into various, targeted channels. And it allows companies, publishers, entrepreneurs … basically anyone with content on their website … the ability to ultimately turn traffic into sales.

SONAR represents the following online distribution platforms:

* S Syndicate partners, content syndication networks, and user generate content sites
* O Online press releases
* N Network (social) communities
* A Article directories
* R Relevant posts to blogs, forums, and bulletin boards

SONAR Case study: My synchronized content distribution technique helped increase traffic ranking and visits to a alternative health website by 3,160% and 81.5% respectively in only three months. And in four months, traffic visits increased to an investment website by nearly 80% as well as an increase its traffic ranking by nearly 150 percent. Plus, the traffic to this investment site was monetized for an ROI of 221%.

So not only was the website’s SEO/SEM efforts NOT hurt by content syndication, it actually improved exponentially with rank, visits and sales.

The key is to re purpose the content. To tweak an original article on your website with minor changes (for example the headline, intro paragraph, closing, etc.) and then syndicate on other different websites.

Google tries to look for the best version …where the content originated … the first, primary source (usually your website) and typically the site that gets the "search engine credit" so to speak via the higher ranking in the organic results listing.

In Google’s view, duplicate content is more hurtful for a site if it’s posted in more than one place on that SAME DOMAIN (not via syndication on other websites such as through online press releases, article directories, etc.).

For example, if you have two pages on your site with virtually the same content, in most cases, Google notices this and ignores one of those Web pages. You will not get both of those listings in the search engine organic results … just one of them.

Keep in mind, Google will decide your pages are duplicate if ONLY your (page titles and Meta descriptions) are the same. So make sure each Web page on your site has unique, relevant tags with targeted keywords.

Now if you’re concerned about Web pages on your website and its text "printer friendly version" hurting your website’s SEO … simply block the search engines from spidering the print friendly version.

When you think about it … syndicating content is the SEO model of social sites (like Digg, Drop Jack, StumpleUpon, etc.) and article directories.

So make sure you understand the power of your content and how to syndicate it the right way before you hit the brakes on any SEO/SEM efforts …

… Because that’s what will actually hurt your site … doing nothing and not leveraging your content.

Wendy Montes de Oca, MBA
Guest Contributor
THE TOTAL PACKAGE

Wendy Montes de Oca, MBA is President of Precision Marketing and Media, LLC. Right conduct controls the greater one." - Mark Twain
Some People Provide Value, Others Steal Money

Long answer: Believe it or not, at one point in time I was an SEO client who bought a trashy scammy service. The site I was trying to market was terrible, they offered no link building solutions for it, and instead suggested I create copies of pages on the site with hidden links pointing back and forth to try to rank well for some obscure 5 word phrases that nobody searches for.

Now those people could have told me that my site was a poor website and I can improve it by doing x, y, and z. But they didn't care about the actual outcome of the work. They just wanted $149 and they got it. That was over six years ago, and they are still scamming people today.
Many Big Organizations Sell Scammy No-Value SEO Services

Most SEO buyers are allured by the prospect of free traffic and that free price-point sets their anchoring for the price. Further their first introduction to SEO comes from non-SEO. Many web hosts, domain registrars, clueless web designers (who talk up web standards but do no actual SEO research), and sleazy telemarketers offer low priced flat rate packages that have no value. Some of the domain registrars and web hosts run on such thin margins that they would be bankrupt without selling stuff like the scammy bolt on no value SEO packages. To highlight such scams I created dollarseo.com to show how they did not work.
Which Creates a Market For Lemons Effect

John Andrews also highlighted this issue in the past, in a post about a market for lemons, comparing the market for SEO services to the used car market:

As non-selling good cars were removed from the market, masquerading “lemons” dominated, setting the tone for the used car market, and further blocking actually good used cars from appearing. In the end, the used car market becomes a market for lemons, not a used car market.

It seems SEO has the same problem. As “boiler-room” SEO firms cold-call companies and pitch ridiculously low prices for SEO contracts, based on old and incorrect SEO information readily accessible to consumers, high quality SEO firms start looking “too expensive”. Consumer research into SEO does not reveal better information, since that knowledge comprises a significant portion of the value SEO consulting, and is thus not freely published. The entire market for SEO services starts to become a market not for actual search engine optimization, but more a market for “snake oil SEO” than true SEO.

Consider the Baseline

To further put the economics of SEO in context, any great SEO should be able to profit from marketing their own websites about their own interests. If I was still interested in baseball cards (like I was in high school) I have no doubt that I could make 6 figures a year promoting a website about baseball cards. That interest faded. But any interests I have I can attempt to monetize. That sets the barrier kinda high for client services. Why would I market someone's thin affiliate site selling Viagra cheaply when if I poured the same effort into my own sites which I love I would make far more profits?
Competent SEOs Have Many Options

Because of snake oil SEO salesmen (and people who want to buy something cheap) the SEO market is very hard to extract money from in service based businesses unless...

1. you run your own publishing business (monetized through affiliate ads, contextual ads, lead generation, direct ad sales, creating & selling your own products + services) and optimize your own websites (which we do)
2. you sell information and/or tools that others can use to apply to learning SEO (which we do)
3. you sell other niche services (like keyword research or link building) that help clients, but are only a piece of the overall strategy (we do not do too much of this, but sometimes do)
4. you have very few select high end client relationships (which we do)
5. you hire a bunch of salesmen to sell worthless trash to the bottom 80% of the consumer market. (which we do NOT do)

This site is about 90% of my labor and about 30% of our profit. But we still run it for a variety of reasons...

* it is one of my favorite hobbies
* income diversity
* running this site (and interacting with hundreds of smart SEOs) helps give us more feedback on international markets and inform some of marketing strategies
* there are a lot of ways to make money online that are somewhat dirty, but this site is pure as snow and helps thousands of families put food on their tables.

Some Markets Are Competitive & Expensive

Anyone who is selling flat rate SEO services is selling a service priced without exploring the market and learning how competitive it is. Ranking well for credit cards might be worth millions of dollars. But it might also cost that much to rank. Ranking for Salem, Oregon bus rental is far easier and can be done using less than 1% of the capital investment.

Worse yet (for the consumer of a flat rate SEO service), SEO is a winner take most market. Most people click on the first page of the search results, with most those clicks happening on the top few listings. So lets say one of the flat rate companies was surprisingly not a scam and actually gave a crap about your business. This is doubtful in most cases, but lets just consider it. Well if they under-price the flat rate and rank you on page 2 or 3 you still are not going to get very much traffic, and (in spite of them trying their best on limited resources) you still probably lost money because page 3 of the search results = fail.
Is Google Flat Rate?

And here is another way of looking at it. Google AdWords doesn't sell their keywords for a flat rate. The words live in an auction that rises and falls with consumer demand. At the same time, advertisers who are paying Google over $10,000,000,000 a year are starting to put some of that budget into organic SEO. With the average SEO employee earning roughly $80,000 a year it is hard to believe that an outsourced discount flat rate package can compete.
Flat Rate Dream Homes Located in _____ for Only $5,000

I am not sure who came up with this analogy. I think it was Danny Sullivan (he is always great with those), but how many contractors do flat rate home building? Probably 0 legitimate ones. Everything is important from the foundation, to the number of rooms, to the materials used, and any special requests need to be considered.

Knowing if the house is on the side of the mountain, if it needs rocks cleared away, if it is in a swamp and could sink is important. Likewise legitimate SEO consulting aims to know the direction of the market, understand the brand, evaluate domain name selection, survey the market, and assess strengths and weaknesses.

Only AFTER all that work has been done to establish a foundation then you have to establish a well researched market strategy and keyword strategy. Then you need to do push marketing and other forms of marketing to build links. You might need to build 100 or 100,000 to compete. No matter how perfect your site is optimized, you generally are not going to rank for competitive keywords until AFTER some link building has been done. On-page optimization has a glass ceiling.

Rarely, if ever, do flat rate SEO service providers build quality links. And if the do buy them, then it is generally to some prescribed generic schedule rather than a specific plan catered to your market and your website. And while the provider is stuck working within that flat rate someone else is subscribing to sites like this one, learning SEO, and aggressively reinvesting their profits to further build a competitive advantage.

It is very hard for an outsourced discount service to compete with a self-interested business owner.

In the markets worth being in, pre-defined flat rate SEO rarely gets it done.

10 Steps for Improving Your SEO

By Yann Gourvennec

July 20th, 2009 @ 8:46 am

Search Engine Optimization has become the marketing manager’s obsession as more marketing collateral is published on the Web. The vast majority of Web users reach the information they want through a search engine and many only read the first few results, so it’s vital that your entry is the one that comes top of the list.

There are a number of simple things you can do to achieve this.

1.Define your SEO niche. Designate three keywords to concentrate on at the most. Analise competitors’ sites to define the Key Efficiency Indicator index (KEI), which compares the daily searches with the number of competing Web pages to identify which keywords are the most effective at bumping your site to the top of search engine results.

2.Fine-tune your page title. Good content shows in the title. Make sure the title explains clearly and compellingly the nature of the content to which it links.

3.Implement keywords in the URL. Adding your keywords to your URL will improve search engine friendliness.

4.Regularly update hidden meta tags. Web pundits may declare meta tags dead and buried, but it only takes a few seconds and if nothing else, it serves the purpose of tidying up the page.

5.Page copy should reflect your choice of keywords. Each of your keyword combination's should be repeated on average five to 10 times on a page.

6.Keywords behind images. Alternate tags are the little pop-ups which show text when hovering over an image with your mouse. Your SEO will improve greatly if you make sure that these pictures have tags on them.

7.Turn your keywords into hotlinks. All your links should contain keywords in plain English: “click here” links should be avoided at all cost.

8.Submit your site to search engines. It’s good SEO to submit your site to the popular search engines which will send their bots to visit and index your links and pages.

9.Use Web 2.0 to boost your positioning. Website optimization can take several months of work. On the other hand, social media links are more dynamic, and can sometimes be indexed in a day. A good mix of the two is a good idea.

10.Just keep trying. SEO work shouldn’t stop with step nine. Results won’t show immediately, priming the pump a few times is required.

A few simple tools I recommend:

Google Trends,Google Insights,Google(Adwords)Keyword Tools,WebCEO,Page ranking

Sitecontent4u.com Releases a Free SEO ebook for Webmasters

MLM & SEO Review

Rosemary Donald, the leading SEO consultant for Rank1 Website Marketing has released a free SEO ebook showing webmasters how to get massive exposure on the Internet fast.

Perth, Australia, June 17, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The ebook is titled 'Expert SEO: How to get Massive Exposure Fast' by Rosemary Donald. If you suspect your site / URL is being filtered out / penalized (e.g. you have lost some Google rankings), try doing the following:

1. Dig your internal traffic analytics for traffic drops or bad trends;
2. Perform [site:yoursite.com] search in Google to see if Google reports same number of indexed URLs;
3. Check if Google Webmaster Tools report any problems;
4. Take a look if Google toolbar PR has changed (graybar PR might be a signal of penalty);
5. Check your site ranking for a “domain-name” search (without the TLD).

If such a query puts you in the fifties, it’s almost (!) guaranteed to be a penalty.

6. Check if Google has blacklisted your site as unsafe for browsing (type http://www.google.com/safebrowsing/diagnostic?site=mysite.com with your domain at the end).
7. Check the source code for any injected links to obvious “bad neighborhood” sites;
8. Check your other sites. In some cases Google seems to devalue the WHOIS domain owner and this results in a simultaneous ranking drop in several sites under the same domain account.
9. Copy a long phrase from your page and search Google for the exact match - make sure this very page (not the home page, not other sites scraping yours) is ranked #1;
10. According to a new report from Symantec, spammers favor the same work schedule as the typical American office worker (Read another report on the findings here).

Twitter Tips: Three Ways To Deal With Twitter Spam

The research, conducted by Symantec's MessageLabs, indicates that spammers are most active during the US working day for a variety of reasons, but could be because most are either based in the US, or find the workday a good time for potential success, said Paul Wood, MessageLabs Intelligence senior analyst.

Twitter Bible: Everything You Need To Know About Twitter

"Like any direct-marketing agency, they have direct times when they will want to send their mail shots," said Wood. "It's usually in the mornings, when people are more receptive and have not yet gotten into their work cycle, before the inbox fills up."

If you are located in the US, spam activity peaks at between 9 10 a.m. local time, and trails off to much lower levels overnight, according to the research. The report also said Europeans are likely to receive a steady stream of spam throughout their day, while users in the Asia-Pacific region are likely to start their day with an inbox already full of spam, with only small amounts trickling in after this point until the evening.

The incidence of spam on corporate networks has increased around 5 percent compared to last month's MessageLabs analysis. Spam accounts for more than 90 percent of all email messages, according to the report. One in 317.8 emails in May contained malware and one in 404.7 emails comprised a phishing attack. More time spent on web mail and social networks is aiding in the increase, according to the report

"Active profiles on social networks are goldmines for spammers to lure unsuspecting users," the report states. "All spammers use is a subject line and a valid hyperlink to active profiles on one of a number of major social networking sites. These emails originate from legitimate addresses on some of the main webmail providers making them harder to catch by regular anti-spam filters."

Earlier this month many Facebook users were targeted in a phishing attack and Twitter has also been hacked by spammers recently (See Phishers Harvest Facebook Passwords for Profit ).

The report also finds legitimate, well-known sites such as Facebook, are just as dangerous, perhaps even riskier, when it comes to malware (See also: Most Web Sites are Vulnerable Now). Wood said a common assumption is that most web-based malware resides on less reputable websites, such as adult content sites. But MessageLabs analysis debunks this and finds cybercriminals appear to be more likely to hide malicious content on older domains that have been well-established. The report states 84.6 percent of website domains blocked for hosting malicious content are well-established domains that are over a year old.( Read More)

The ABCs of a Great SEO Leader

So, you can audit a site. I’ll bet you have a methodology in place to do it a thousand times over. You probably do it pretty darn well. You insure the proper keywords are in page titles, canonical issues are addressed, internal anchor text is optimized, and so on. You know your stuff.

Yet, you personally yearn for more. You want to drive an overall business strategy. You not only want to optimize content, you want to brainstorm new content to optimize. You, in short, want to lead.

So, if you have the knowledge, what can you do to evaluate whether or not you have that ‘it’ factor?

Beyond knowledge, there are personality traits or inherent characteristics shared by the best leaders (across verticals). They are able to use their knowledge effectively, and implement, entirely because of these very traits. Some of these characteristics were touched on in my previous post, 10 Ways to be a Great SEO. But there’s much more.

Below, from A to Z, you’ll find what I believe are the traits, qualities and intangibles found in the people that lead not just SEO, but entire companies.

Analytical: Know what to look for, and be able to create an action plan from your findings.

Business savvy: Give your team some job security. Make money and plan to make more.

Calm under fire: Your rankings just went off the radar. No reason. Can you keep your team calm?

Decisive: If you don’t believe in your decisions, no one will.

Ethical: If you represent a brand, there’s no room for questionable tactics. Win within the rules.

Fast: How long does it take your plan to go from your mind to moving the needle?

Gap Bridger: PR, SEM, Tech and more are lurking. Can you bring them all together?

Historian: Know what’s happened in the past or you’re doomed to repeat mistakes.

Innovator: Can you create new ways to succeed?

Jumps in: A leader gets their hands dirty. Lead by example.

Killer smarts: Intelligence, and more importantly common sense, attracts followers.

Loves what they do: A miserable leader can only be effective short term.

Mass thinking: It’s all about scale. Do your plans build in chunks to leverage infrastructure?

Never give up: If you quit, your team will too.

Out of the box: It’s ok to win by being unconventional. It’s actually a lot more fun.

Patience: Giving up on a plan too quickly can lead to a lost opportunity forever.

Question everything: If you understand the ‘why’, it’s that much easier to get the ‘how’.

Respectful: Treat everyone with respect and you can expect them to go to battle for you.

Stand up guy/girl: You’re the leader. You take the credit, you take the blame.

Tester: Don’t be afraid to fail. Try new things. It may take many small failures to see great success.

Understanding: Step into someone else’s shoes. Get their perspective, whether or not you agree.

Visionary: What’s coming down the line? Are you prepared with a plan for it?

Winner: When it comes time to win for your idea, can you step up?

X-factor: A great leader has a charm or charisma that makes people want to follow their lead.

Yes man: No way! Can you tell your boss that their idea is going kill organic traffic?

Zero mistakes: Everyone makes mistakes. Leaders have plans in place to find and correct them.

As always, this is just one man’s opinion. And, frankly, thinking of a quality that begins with every letter of the alphabet can be quite time consuming. Did I miss one? Do you have a favorite trait, or a related story to share? This new feature will give users results from multiple sources on one spreadsheet-like page.

If these new features are adopted by users it may mean that websites will, in the future, need to consider how a person is searching and not just what they are searching for when deciding on a search engine optimization strategy.

Google’s Own Tips for Best Site Management

MLM & SEO Review

Social Bookmarking

Google has listed a dozen tools that can help your site shine like a beacon through the wilderness of the web. Granted, they name a lot of their own tools, but the advice is sound nonetheless - and all you have to do to prove their usefulness is to give them a try!

First on the list is a basic step that many newer webmasters don’t know to try out. Simply search for your site name using the command ‘site’ - in other words, type “site: name of your site .com”. When it comes up, you can look at your snippet (what shows on the search results) and your page titles to see what you might need to change for best user experience and attractiveness. You can also use the content analysis tool from Google Webmaster Tools for more details.

Sitemaps with a refresh rate are the fastest way to get new content crawled by Google, according to their team. This can help if you add pages quickly (daily or weekly).

You need to label every image appropriately to ensure you don’t miss out on showing up for Google Image Search. Instead of [001jpg] make sure your images scan as what they represent, hopefully utilizing a keyword or two: [blue puppy hoodies].

Google may not always serve up the best site links, so remember you can go in and alter these to represent your site in the best, most user friendly way possible.

Check for keyword traffic, errors, bad links and other problems using Google’s diagnostic checklist in Webmaster Tools.

Make sure your redirect properly by serving accurate HTTP status codes; a retired page should serve a 404, and a relocated page a 301. This will enable Google to find your new pages faster.

Organic content. Organic content. Organic content. There is really nothing to add to that except that you need it!

Finally, use what Google offers. Read the SEO Starter Guide. Watch the Webmaster Tutorials. Utilize the Webmaster Tools. Read the Central Blog. They are defense mechanisms that allow us to size up the world quickly and efficiently, and sometimes erroneously if we fail to adjust our stereotypes to reality.

Test yourself. Think about these phrases:

* "Pro athlete."

* "Terrorist."

* "Boy Scouts of America."

* "Porn star."

* "Democrat."

* "Southern Baptist."

What images do these words create in your head? What attitudes and emotions to they provoke within you?

These words are stereotypes. And if you are at all well informed about the world around you, they will spark pictures in your head, and thus give rise to certain attitudes and emotions.

This is their function: To bypass the conscious mind.

There is nothing evil about this. Indeed, it is quite natural.

"Mental habits create stereotypes just as physical habits create certain definite reflex actions," according to Edward L. Bernays, the father of public relations. "These short-cuts to reactions make it possible for the average mind to possess a much larger number of impressions than would be possible without them."

According to the journalist Walter Lippmann, the 1920s social commentator who popularized the concept, stereotypes are the mental codes that "largely determine what group of facts we shall see and in what light we shall see them."

For example, play the football fight song "Hail to the Redskins" to a large crowd in Washington, D.C. and you are likely to spark a cheer. Play the same song just 136 miles away to a crowd in Philadelphia, and you may spark a riot.

The song is a stereotype. It bypasses logic and goes straight to emotion. The reaction you provoke depends entirely upon the audience.

Understanding the role of the stereotype is crucial to any executive who wants to build a powerful reputation, and thus corporate prestige.

To build a powerful reputation, a corporation must learn to use current stereotypes to its advantage.

For example, if a stockbrokerage claims to be the premiere investment house in Texas, it should decorate its offices in a Southwestern style, not in a Wall Street style. Texans are extremely proud of their heritage. A company that claims a similar heritage will strengthen its credibility by looking Texan, and thus supporting the stereotype.

A doctor is not a doctor to the public without a stethoscope. A farmer is not a farmer without a tractor. A chemist is not a chemist without a test tube.

The human mind needs the stereotype to confirm credibility. Wise executives use this tendency to their company's advantage at every point where their corporation and the public intersect.

It is equally important to avoid stereotypes when they threaten a company's credibility, and to seek opportunities to create new stereotypes when it is to your advantage.

If an organization of any kind wants to build a powerful reputation with a herd within the herd, the most effective route is to align the organization and its messages with the stereotypes that the herd is most willing to embrace without question.

In this way, the organization can bypass conscious thought and move directly into ready acceptance and admiration.

Thus, if you want to build instant credibility with your customers and clients, you must carefully identify and exploit the stereotypes that will generate the emotion of trust among those clients and customers.

Rusty Cawley is a 20-year veteran journalist who now coaches executives, professionals and entrepreneurs on news strategy. Inquiries come via e-mail and your web site, and you try to send information to each hot prospect as quickly as you can. You know that you can drastically increase the likelihood of making a sale by satisfying each person’s need for information quickly!

But, after you’ve delivered that first bit of information to your prospect, do you send him any further information?

If you are like most Internet marketers, you don’t.

When you don’t follow that initial message with additional information later on, you let a valuable prospect slip from your grasp! This is a potential customer who may have been very interested in your products, but who lost your contact information, or was too busy to make a purchase when your first message reached him.

Often, a prospect will purposely put off making a purchase, to see if you find him important enough to follow up with later. When he doesn’t receive a follow up message from you, he will take his business elsewhere.

Are you losing profits due to inconsistent and ineffective follow up?

Following up with leads is more than just a process - it’s an art. In order to be effective, you need to design a follow up system, and stick to it, EVERY DAY! If you don’t follow up with your prospects consistently, INDIVIDUALLY, and in a timely fashion, then you might as well forget the whole follow up process.

Consistent follow up gets results!

When I first started marketing and following up with prospects, I used a follow up method that I now call the “List Technique.” I had a large database containing the names and e-mail addresses of people who had specifically requested information about my products and services. These prospects had already received my first letter by the time they requested more information, so I used the company’s latest news as a follow up piece.

I would write follow up newsletters every now and then, and send them, in one mass mailing, to everyone who had previously requested information from me. While this probably did help me win a few additional orders, it wasn’t a very good follow up method. Why isn’t the “List Technique” very effective?

The List Technique isn’t consistent. Proponents of the List Technique tend to only send out follow up messages when their companies have “big news”.

List Technique messages don’t give the potential customer any additional information about the product or service in question. He can’t make a more informed buying decision after receiving a newsletter! If someone is wondering whether your company sells the best knick-knacks, what does he care that you’ve just moved your headquarters?

List Technique messages convey a “big list” mentality to your potential customers. When I used to write follow up messages using the List Technique, I was writing news bulletins to everyone I knew! I should have been sending a personal message to each individual who wanted to know more about my products.

What follow up method really works?

Following up with each lead individually, multiple times, but at set intervals, and with pre-written messages, will dramatically increase sales! Others who use this same technique confirm that they have all at least doubled the sales of various products! In order to set this system up, though, you need to do some planning.

First, you’ll need to develop your follow up messages. If you’ve been marketing on the Internet for any length of time, then you should already have a first informative letter. Your second letter marks the beginning of the follow up process, and should go into more detail than the first letter. Fill this letter with details that you didn’t have the space to add to the first letter. Stress the BENEFITS of your products or services!

Your next 2-3 follow up messages should be rather short. Include lists of the benefits and potential uses of your products and services. Write each letter so that your prospects can skim the contents, and still see the full force of your message.

The next couple of follow up messages should create a sense of urgency in your prospect’s mind. Make a special offer, giving him a reason to order NOW instead of waiting any longer. After reading these follow up messages, your prospect should want to order immediately!

Phrase each of your final 1 or 2 follow up messages in the form of a question. Ask your prospect why he hasn’t yet placed an order? Try to get him to actually respond. Ask if the price is to high, the product isn’t the right color or doesn’t have the right features, or if he is looking for something else entirely. (By this time, it’s unlikely that this person will order from you. However, his feedback can help you modify your follow up letters or products, so that other prospects will order from you.)

The timing of your follow up letters is just as important as their content. You don’t want one prospect to receive a follow up the day after he gets your initial informative letter, while another prospect waits weeks for a follow up!

Always send an initial, informative letter as soon as it is requested, and send the first follow up 24 hours afterwards. You want your hot prospects to have information quickly, so that they can make informed buying decisions!

Send the next 2-3 follow up messages between 1 and 3 days apart. Your prospect is still hot, and is probably still shopping around! Tell him about the benefits of your products and services, as opposed to your competitors’. You will make the sale!

Send the final follow up messages later on. You certainly don’t want to annoy your prospect! Make sure that these last letters are at least 4 days apart.

Following up effectively seems complicated, but it doesn’t have to be! So many potential customers are lost because of poor follow up - don’t you want to be one of the few to get it right?
Resource Box:Posted by Tom Kulzer (AWeber CEO)

Online Marketing Plan for Starting Your Small Business

Social Bookmarking

The current economic downturn is resulting in masses of unemployed people looking to starting small businesses on the Internet. It seems to some as if the internet is only a thorn in their side. So the question comes up, do you really need the internet?

The reality is, if a network marketer is not taking advantage of the internet right now, or even more importantly, not providing some sort of education, they are missing out on customers, prospects and downline members that are being snapped up by people who are using the internet. For example, if a networker is making a routine 50 cold calls a day or making 3 new contacts a day while performing their work and daily routine, they may just happen to come across someone who’s at the right spot in their life and legitimately looking for an opportunity.

Let’s say that the networker has caught them at just the right minute in their day where they’re willing to take the time to listen to them. And let’s say the networker actually manages to arouse the person’s curiosity enough so they’re interested in finding out more. The course of MLM recruiting events goes like this: The networker sets up an appointment with the person to describe the opportunity, the 3-way call with the sponsor and the prospect is scheduled, the prospect is invited to attend a conference call about the opportunity, a DVD or an email with a link to a video that’s all about the opportunity is sent, or the prospect gets sent to the stunning company website which is also all about the one-of-a-kind opportunity. That’s total of 6 pitches already.

Meanwhile, the prospect is researching online themselves about the network marketing opportunity and they discover someone who is providing a free report concerning why most people don’t succeed with their home based business or maybe some free videos concerning how to get leads for free using the net instead of talking to friends and family. Usually what happens is the prospect will provide their name and e-mail in exchange for this information and probably disregard the appointment they set up in the first place. The prospect starts receiving more emails offering useful information from the networker who is using the internet and providing information and it is seen as a helpful guide from someone who’s looking out for them. Trust is built and eventually the prospects asks how they can do duplicate the process.

So, the question ‘do you really need the internet’ is answered….as networker #1 just lost a lead and sabotages their own MLM recruiting efforts. At the bare minimum, networkers need to be online to protect their offline MLM recruiting efforts. As millions of people are getting online, networkers who are applying simple attraction marketing techniques are gathering up prospects in great numbers.

So one can see that the answer to whether or not the internet needs to be used is a resounding yes. Luckily the internet hasn’t come close to reaching its full potential so there’s still plenty of opportunity to learn and use this mega marketing tool.

Khai is an MLM Recruiting But is not necessarily an appropriate strategy for every website, and other Internet marketing strategies can be much more effective, depending on the site operator's goals.

SEO techniques can be classified into two broad categories: techniques that search engines recommend as part of good design, and those techniques of which search engines do not approve.

Search Engine Optimization is the skillful art of placing researched keywords, that have a known searching audience, into various places on a Web page which are known to be given weight by the ranking systems and algorithms of Major Search Engines like Google, Alta Vista, AOL Search, Ask Jeeves, Excite, Inktomi, Lycos, MSN, Teoma and Yahoo. SEO tactics changes very frequently as Google and the other engines strive to ensure that websites that they prioritize satisfy the requirements of the user(s).

Seo services involve a great deal of manual work, some of this work might be trivially routine. It is accomplished by optimizing certain sections or "elements" in the HTML coding of each page. The method to ensure your site will appear on top of the most important searches in search engines. SEO brings in "normal" traffic but also "webmaster" traffic. SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and PPC (Pay-per-Click Advertising) campaigns can secure your website's visibility to targeted visitors.

Kathy Baka

Importance of finding a good mentor

MLM & SEO Review

Social Bookmarking

Several things need to be done if you want to be successful in Internet marketing. This is more applicable if you are new in the industry. However the primary task is to find a good and appropriate mentor.
Several people are there online, who will say that they are the best mentors in this area. However, once you go deep enough you will see that neither do they have proper connections nor the proper attitude. Are you aware of the correct attitude? Ideally the perfect mentor has to possess the following qualities: helpfulness, give and take of information, wishing to see you successful. This is because once you are successful so is your mentor. The mentor will always want his team to excel. Therefore, growth in this business is mutual. A leader always leads by his acts. He will give you enough ideas and strategies to make sure that you become a winner and will do you good entirely. He will definitely return your call, emails, IMs, and so on.
A good efficient mentor will give Value to the team. The definition of Value is this. It is the required information, which will help you succeed. As a mentor gives you value, he is also giving you tips, skills and knowledge that they are well equipped with. They have gathered the information from Internet marketing career to help the teams succeed. The methods of doing this are one-phone conversations; team training calls, webinars, email and many more.
There are various methods of acquiring an efficient mentor. Google search is an excellent method. The names appearing on Google indicate that the people have what it takes to reach that position and will be able to impart at least that amount which will help you begin your career. From there you can take off. One very good method is YouTube. People upload videos, which can be very helpful. There you get to see the person and have an overall idea about their personality. That will figure out how well they will suit you. A good personality charges up the work culture of the place. Only when you click together you will know that the relationship has to work.
Social networking sites are very good methods of getting a mentor. This way you also get to know about a person in details. A little bit of research will ensure that you find the best mentor. Before making your decision, call them, have telephonic and see what they have to offer. It is absolutely vital that you get the best mentor since they are the ones who will teach you well and take you to the path of success.
Several excellent mentors are there who have not been in the industry for a long period of time but they have all necessary skills and connections to make any venture successful. But some mentors are there who in spite of being in the business for a long time cannot give their best mentors. If you want to have an enriching Internet marketing experience then take all the effort to find a good mentor who will suit your style and make your experience a better one.

Kathy Baka

YouTube Marketing

MLM & SEO Review

Social Bookmarking

YouTube is nothing less than an online video phenomenon and if you aren't already using it as a tool to promote yourself or your online content, you should really give it some thought.You Tube is an online video sharing website where users can upload their videos for all to see. There are thousands of competition that is all too willing to get a bigger share of the pie. Every scheme and method you can find to augment your sales would be very beneficial.

We have got to admit to ourselves. Most of us are into it for the money. We are not going to waste our time and effort just for the fun of it. Many sites would not wait until hell freezes over just to see their profits. While there are some who takes things lightly there are always those who would rather see profit any given day.

It is common knowledge that without traffic we have no business. Like any business, without any customers you don’t get sales. Traffic represents all the people that gets a chance to see what you have to offer. The more people who see your products the more people there would be to buy them.

Nobody puts up an E-commerce site that doesn’t expect profit. We have a start up capital that needs to be regained. With a consistent traffic, we at least have a fighting chance to achieve that probability. Monetizing your traffic would optimize your chances of making the best out of it.

The best and most proven method of making a profit out of your traffic is using advertising. The internet generates hundreds of thousands upon hundred of thousands of traffic everyday. Most of them are searching for something. While some are just looking for information there is also a good percentage that is looking for something that they need.

The internet has proven to be a very reliable source in finding what was deemed to be a very unsearchable product. The internet has made the world a smaller place; you can advertise a product from the depths of Istanbul and still find a buyer from the center of Philadelphia.

Generating traffic is not an easy task. You have to contend with a great number of sites to generate a good number of traffic flow. But if done successfully this could open up a Pandora’s Box of possibilities. One of the benefits is monetizing your traffic flow.

So, to get to the core of it the more traffic you generate the more likely you are considered as a desirable, desirable, in a sense that a good traffic flowing site is easily convertible to profit. Basically traffic equals profit. Advertising is the name of the game; with the good advertising scheme you can use your traffic flow to your advantage.

When you have good traffic you have a good number of potential customers, customers that are willing to pour money into your coffers. Other than that these are also traffic that can be redirected to sponsored links that are willing to pay you for a size able portion of the traffic that you have generated.

This scheme is called “pay-per-click”. With every click a visitor of your site makes on an advertised link you will be paid. The more traffic you generate and the more clicks that happens would spell to more profits.

Affiliate Programs

Another method of monetizing your traffic are affiliate programs. You can link up with other tried and tested sites and online companies and monetize your traffic by having a percentage of sales generated by traffic coming from your site.

The basic idea is, traffic generated from your site will go to another site that can offer a product that you do not carry. Many programs can keep track and make records of transactions that was made possible because of site linkage.

When purchases are made by customers that was led by your site to their site you get a percentage of that sale. To make money requires money as well. But of course, with the versatility the internet offers, there are many ways you could find that could help optimize the potential of your site or business in generating traffic.

While there are ways to jump start your traffic flows, many sites don’t have the resources that others have to generate more traffic for your site. Well, you don’t have to spend a cent; all you need is the proper mindset and a lot of eagerness. You also must have the drive and perseverance to do hard work and research to generate more traffic for your site.

How sweet it is to have more traffic for your site without spending a single cent. Now it’s a sure thing that many sites have articles that offer tips and guidelines in how to generate traffic using only free methods. Because it is possible, you don’t need to speed a single cent, it may take time, to say honestly, I’m not going to beat around the bush with you. You get better chances by paying for your advertisements, but at least you get a fighting chance with some of these free methods I’m about to tell you.

Take advantage of online forums and online communities. The great thing about forums and online communities is that you can target a certain group that fits the certain demographic that you are looking for. You can discuss about lots of things about the niche that you represent or offer. Another great advantage is that you know what you are getting into and you will be prepared.

With online communities and forums you can build a reputation for your company. Show them what you are made of and wow them with your range of expertise about the subject, with that you can build a reputation and build trust with the people in your expertise and knowledge.

You can also make use of newsletters. Provide people with a catalog of your products and interesting and entertaining articles. If you make it really interesting and entertaining, more people will sign up for your newsletter and recommend it to other people. The more people who signs up for your newsletter, the more people there will be that will go to your site increasing your traffic.

Another great idea is trading links with other sites. You don’t have to spend a cent. All you have to do is reach an agreement with another webmaster. With exchanging links, the efforts both sites do will benefit both sites. Every traffic that goes to the site could potentially click on the link of your site and visit your site as well. This works well especially when both sites feature the same niche.

Write articles that could pique the attention of people that have interest in your product. Try writing articles that will provide tips and guides to other aficionados. Writing articles that provide good service and knowledge to other people would provide the necessary mileage your traffic flow needs.

Many sites offer free submission and posting of your articles. When people find interest in your articles they have a good chance of following the track by finding out where the article originated. Include a link or a brief description of your company with the article and there’s a great probability that they will go to your site.

Write good content for your site. Many search engines track down the keywords and keyword phrases your site uses and how they are used. It is not a requirement that a content should be done by a professional content writer. You could do your on but you have to make content for your site that is entertaining as well as informational. It should provide certain requirements as well as great quality.

Generally, internet users use search engines to find what they are looking for. Search engines in return use keyword searching in aiding their search results. With the right keywords, you could get high rankings in search engine results without the costs.

All of these methods and more will drive more traffic to your site for free. Many are now realizing that good money is made from this source of revenue. Try the simple mathematical computation of multiplying those clicks for every page on your website and you get a summation of earnings equivalent to a monthly residual income with that little effort you have made.

Google Adsense is a fast and easy way for website publishers of all sizes to display relevant and text-based Google ads on their website’s content pages and earn money in the process. The ads displayed are related to what your users are looking for on your site. This is the main reason why you both can monetize and enhance your content pages using Adsense.

How much you will be earning will depend on how much the advertisers are willing to pay. It will depend also on the keywords required. If the keywords the advertiser have chosen are in high demand, you could receive more dollars per click. On the other hand, low demand keywords will earn you just a few cents per click.

How can you start making profits out of your website using Adsense?

1. Sign up for an Adsense account. It will only take a few minutes of your time.

2. When the site is accepted, you will be receiving a clip code to include in your web pages. You can insert this code on as many pages or web sites that you want. The AdWords will start appearing immediately after.

3. You will be earning a few cents or some dollars per click when someone starts clicking on the AdWords displayed on any of your web pages. Trying to earn false revenues by repetitively clicking on your own ads is a no-no. This will result in a penalty or the possibility of your site being eliminated. The money you have already earned may be lost because of this.

4. View your statistics. Adsense earnings can be checked anytime by logging into your web site account.

Once you got your account working, you may still want to pattern them to the many sites that are earning more money than you are. It is important to note that there are factors affecting how your website will perform and the amount of money it will give you.

It is a common practice that when a site earning money, the tendency is for the owner to want to make more out of what they are getting already. It usually takes some time combined with trial and error to attain what you want for your Adsense contents.

Time and some important factors that you can practice and use.

How do you increase your Adsense earnings?

1. Choose one topic per page. It is best to write a content for your page with just a few targeted phrases. The search engine will then serve ads that are more relevant which will then result in higher clickthoughs.

2. Using white space around your ad. This can make your ad stand out from the rest of your page so visitors can spot them easily. There are also other choices of colors you can use, provided by search engines, which can harmonize the color of your ad with the web page color.

3. Test your ad placement. It is recommended to use the vertical format that runs down the side of the web page to get more positive results. You can also try both horizontal and vertical formats for a certain period of time to see which one will give you better results.
4. More content-based pages. Widen the theme of your website by creating pages that focus more on your keyword phrases. This will optimize the pages for the search engines. It can not only attract traffic but also make them more relevant for the AdWords to be displayed.
5. Site Build It. This is the perfect tool to be used for creating lots of Adsense revenues. Site Build It has all the tools necessary to quickly achieve a keyword-rich site that can rank high in the search engines. This will also produce a flow of traffic to your site of highly targeted visitors.

Kathy

Digg Versus Slashdot for Tech Talk

MLM & SEO Review

Social Bookmarking

Digg is being touted as the wave of the future, but can they keep up the growth? Digg is not about great posts, it's more of a bookmarking site. Digg is an “elitist” system — the algorithm gives more weight to the actions of top users. Digg is no longer the place to read tech news, it’s the place to find out what’s going on, on the internet.

Digg is a great community for the technically literate, but a vast majority of the world still lack any sort of online community membership.Digg is among a growing handful of websites applying the principles of "social networking" made famous by MySpace and YouTube to news gathering and presentation.

Being successful on Digg is hard work and only a small fraction of those who try ever succeed. It is a well known fact that social bookmarking networks have been an increasingly popular target for blackhatters, Digg is one of these networks being exploited time and time again.

Some laughed at Slashdot when Digg surpassed its rankings on sites like Alexa, saying that Digg is going to stomp all over it; however, today Slashdot still delivers technology stories, while Digg simply isn’t tech-oriented at all anymore.

Slashdot has a much higher rate of actual articles as opposed to a 'story' that's hardly anything more than a download link. You know your intended audience better than anyone, so self-promotion on digg is nothing but a platform to market yourself. Maybe promotional ‘articles’ on slashdot can be a problem (with their sometimes dubious/forgetful editorial staff) but digg is more of a democracy.

What attracted me and still does to Digg is the great stories and the fact that even an average internet marketer like me has the ability to grab the number one spot for some great keywords.

Thanks for reading and see you on Digg!

Kathy Baka
