M83 @ The Metro Sydney

EPIC!!! EPIC!! EPIC!!!

A total high impact performance by a band I just started listening to and love, tho didnt know what to expect. But OMG what a show! M83 AKA Anthony Gonzalez and co were amazing.. and performed a great mix of their music from past to present.

M83's Melbourne support band were kicked off the tour a few days previous and a support dj substituted.. and wow he was great! nice wind up to what was to follow.

M83 opened with a guest appearance from Fly Monster.. haha! he reminded me of a grown up version of that freaky "Saw" thing lol and got stuck right into it with "Intro"

When they played Midnight City he had the crowd going wild.. switching on my camera as usual it had to be captured.. towards the end, Anthony decides to leap onto the crowd barrier right in front of me and stand upright supported by fans and security lol I got crushed against the fence in the push forward to touch him but wow it felt great! this is what a real concert should feel like.. and wasnt only reserved for shows with pretty boy bands.

Midnight City, We Own The Sky, Kim & Jessie, Couleurs, Reunion.. all had the crowd going nuts.. with non stop dancing and jumping.. all I can say is it was great being up front.. altho looking at a few vids others made the steps were a great vantage point as well.. hmm might try that next time..

At first I thought it was a sick joke. I mean twitter is responsible for quite a few fake celebrity 'deaths' lately, but as I read on it became apparent that it was indeed true. What a sad passing. She was one of my fave idols in the 80's, and who can forget that beautiful voice. U will be missed Whitney

WOW what a show!!.. and a double headliner at that! A first for me to see 2 brilliant acts in the one venue they blew me away with all that energy

and what a perfect pairing we got.. Ernest Greene AKA Washed Out & Chazwick Bundick AKA Toro Y Moi have toured, mixed tracks & even graduated from the same Uni together and are part of the chillwave movement. I have only recently been acquainted with both artists and its a discovery im glad to have come by. Absolutely beautiful sounds, lush, synthy and equally as catchy live as U would listening to them during a private moment at home, in the car or chilling thru headphones.

Guerre opened with superb DJ sets from a promising solo performer. Totally new to me he did have me sitting up paying attention whilst we shared a drink chilling on the lounge. U can tell he has been redolently influenced by the pair.

Washed Out stunned the crowd with dreamy selections from his EP & debut releases. Hold Out, Soft, Belong all got the crowd cheering and non stop dancing. I loved how he really got into it firing up everyone & we couldnt get enough.

Toro Y Moi was a pleasant surprize. Having also not that long ago discovered his music, I didnt know what to expect. But he didnt disappoint. Saturday Love, Talamak, New Beat... track after track just fantastic. Chillwave is just one of his sounds, U would be amazed at what else he can conjure up. Elements from indie to even a bit of prog he is one multitalented individual.

wow what can I say?.. incredible... FKING INCREDIBLE!!!!!

Pat Grossi AKA Active Child delivers and delivers superbly! I have, since discovering this awesum talent from a blip buddy, loooved his music but to hear him live was quite the experience. He actually exceeded my expectations as I was imagining hitting the high notes would be difficult during a live performance & he wouldnt sound as he normally does.

HOW WRONG WAS I??!!??

He utterly blew me away.

That voice.. that harp.. the spacy synthy filled sounds makes for a ravishing listening experience. The kind U would put on when in that dreamy state.. ready to be elevated to celestial proportions.. I read that his ethereal voice can be attributed to his childhood years of being a choir boy. Interesting!

and OMG that harp! when he strummed it ever so gently he was sending shivers down my spine and tingles in private places. I have never heard a harp being played live like that. Soothing yet sensual at the same time.. he stunned the crowd.

His performance has to be one of the best ive seen. Totally breathtakingly beautiful and atmospheric. The venue, the OAF [The Oxford Art Factory], was a snazzy lil funky place that surprized me. Its been ages since ive been anywhere near Oxford St & certainly its been my first time there. But I did enjoy it and it didnt lack any of the intimacy bigger venues do. Not that this is a big venue, no, but a place either clicks and sets the atmosphere for the performance or is a dump, and the OAF is definitely fantastic!

oh btw if U ever get the chance to visit the OAF.. make sure U try a "Sex Punch" lol.. [yes they are licensed premises] a yummy concoction of OJ, champers, vodka, lemonade, crushed ice, pineapple.. its kinda like an adults version of a slurpy lol.. & goes down well on a warm summer eve listening to your fave music

HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY to all my Aussie friends.. I am delighted to have met U all and I hope your barbies have fired up and U take in some beach cricket.. haha!

I took off for some ice creams & ended up in Circular Quay admiring the activities.. seems I was a lil late for the main celebrations of the day.. but the ice creams made up for that lol who can resist a cookies n cream anyway?

this is a pic of me getting into the spirit of Aust day with my bright yellow B toob & Aussie cap & flag!! YAY I finks I looks fair dinkum mate!

it was great to see so many of them ol double decker busses out in town going up George St.. what memories.. I still recall how I loved riding on the top floor as a kid and imagined I was driving the bus when I sat at the front haha!

The Hoffster

the day before my birthday last Wednesday the 18th Jan I took myself off to see the Hoffster AKA David Hasselhoff at Sydney Park who was posing with doggies and their owners all for a good cause "The Starlight Childrens Foundation"

I havent even been to that park before even tho its around 15 mins away from me!

The sun was beating down the queue was growing and those who wanted their pic taken with the Hoffster paid $100 which included a doggie wash & massage for poochy. There were many different characters roaming the park including 'Dicko' from ex Australian Idol.. stand up comedian Vince Sorrentti & several who were dressed the same as them but couldnt recognise..even Batman & Joker made an appearance!

The Hoffster was looking a lil jetlagged but that didnt stop him.. and a few even shouted out "Are U jetlagged Hoff?" to which he replied: "The Hoff is never jetlagged!" I was told he is nearly 60 which when youre up close to him U can tell.. still he had an energetic nature about him & that Hoffster charm

The highlight of that day was when I had finished filming at the top of the hill then came down & was preparing to leave when suddenly the Hoff & those around him changed into high heels lol & began strutting their stuff lol

Who could resist such a laugh?

Ended up with a great deal of sunburn that day esp round the shoulders arms & back of the neck which served as a reminder of Hoffday. Afterwards I took a leisurely stroll up King all the way to Newtown & marvelled at the exquisite furniture shops along the way.. most of em middle eastern/vintage.. wow that was a blast.. & came across this cabinet record player that I fell in love with!

Coffs Harbour

Spent 2 days on the North coast in Coffs Harbour after the new year The weather was rather coolish & grey but we had a lovely time exploring and shopping. Park Beach South is just amazing. I could picture me living here actually.. HMM

I made this video sitting on the rocks on the Park Beach breakwall.. it was extremely windy & it effected the quality of the audio but at least U can see the spectacular view

Melbourne

Melbourne in November/December was just great! Not only did I get to chill & sightsee it was also my girls 30th birthday.

Arriving on the Sunday eve [I flew down this time for a change! that was quite the experience.. I almost missed the plane despite getting to the airport very early!] we spent that evening watching The Lion Sleeps No More & interesting discussion that followed of each others opinions. We came to the conclusion that yes, altho David Icke does seem a lil crazy [he spoke often of reptiles] the world did have a severe imbalance & here he was exposing it all.

The next day P and her boy left for Thailand for 2 wks and we were to celebrate her birthday on her return. That meant I had 2 wks to further explore this beautiful city

The highlight of my visit was the Melbourne Music Week closing gig which Oscar + Martin and others featured. It was held atop Melbourne Central Rooftop in the heart of Melbourne in the pouring rain! ha!

I got to dance like crazy... get soaked.. & listen to some fabulous music! Crazy I know but it we got to have so much fun! Below are some Vids & pics from MMW

I also got to climb Eureka Tower during twilight hours [all 89 floors] lol. The "Edge" was shut that night but the viewing platform was open. This platform is out in the open with only a screen door type steel grill mesh between U & the world below which was very cold & windy.. yep U felt every bit of the elements up there! WOW

I did the shopping thing.. markets.. beach strolls.. walked Albert Park EVERY morning [I got my time down from 1:14 to 1:07 to 1:05 to 1:03 to 1:01 but couldnt better the last time]

I spent the evenings listening to Music, cuddling up to Basil, & catching up

On the day of the arrival back, they were delayed for over 3 hours & ended up coming in late so we had a lovely quiet eve in sharing laughs & a few drinks talking bout her trip & showing me the lovely pics.

The next day I took her out for birthday lunch. We ended up getting fish & chips after a leisurely browse on Acland & we got to eat it on the beach. She was telling me of a book she was reading & how much she was enoying it so I thought DING! that'll make a perfect gift! So I got her Parts 2 & 3 & she loved it! I felt close to her that day, we shared some laughs & deep and meaningfuls & beautiful poignant memories

Melbourne was truly special this time round

The view upon leaving Melbourne was spectacular! The city and surrounds looked like a lit up circuit board from the plane.

Tim Finn At The Metro

What can I say about the legendary Tim Finn? As founding member of Split Enz successful solo artist & temporary member of brother Neil Finn's Crowded House & the magnificent Finn Brothers releases he sure is an amazing evolving multitalented individual. So when I found out thru the Metro's website that Tim was on tour to promote his new album "The View Is Worth The Climb" I knew without a doubt that it was unmissable!

And what a super performance he gave! Mixing old with the new, he stunned the audience with his ageless appearance and energy that was infectious & had the entire room singing & in a uproar as he shared poignant moments in his life with us.

The key stand-out songs that I loved were: Poor Boy my absolute fave from the Split Enz era that brought back flashes of my high school days with Enz on the TV.. My Mistake another kool quirky track that was great to hear again.. Six Months In A Leaky Boat OMG I couldnt get this out of my head! I was driving the boy mad humming and/or whistling it lol for days afterwards too that was the song that caused an uproar during the Falklands War and still sounds just as good as all those years ago.

The new tracks People Like Us & The View Is Worth The Climb were fantastic. Tim played piano for both. All in all I really enjoyed the show & would def see Tim again if the opportunity arose.

Manly Arts Festival

The lantern display on the beach was amazing. It was the first time I have attended, but found it was hard not going. Manly beach always holds special appeal for me, and to learn of a artsy festival eve by the beach was irresistable!

Taking the ferry across, the night was perfect. Fresh, balmy mild temps made it ideal to be out and about amongst similar arty folk. The museum was opened, a brilliant lively Pink Floyd cover band playing and beautiful hand-made lanterns decorated the scape.

Kids as I found out, made the hand-held string lanterns at school, which were just so pretty. Families were out in their scores.. celebrating.. enjoying the music.. & atmosphere.. as was I.

Below is a video I shot of the fabulous Pink Floyd cover band singing "Money" & a few pictures I snapped of the pretty lanterns. I had a wonderful time, and have marked the event in my planner. I wont be missing it next yr.

FTP were senfkinsational!! wow they literally blew me brains away.. everyone had the maddest time... singin n dancing.. and I went on my own and still was a blast... it was a sell-out show with guess who purchasing the final ticket??.. yeah!! MEE!!

Glasvegas were amazing... their first visit to Australian shores as side-show to the Splendour in the Grass festival James Allan was a hoot joking around and sooo bloody hard to understand with his thick Scottish accent.. still we had the best time.. and im so glad I got to see em with P as she had come up for that weekend since her studies were over.. S-U-P-E-R W-E-E-K-E-N-D
