Did you know that Emily Blunt plays Queen Victoria in the upcoming film The Young Victoria?? I have been flying through We Two, a biography of Victoria and Albert's turbulent marriage in the mid-19th century. These two defined the term "power couple" (minus the small detail that they were first cousins...ahem). Cannot wait to see them on the screen. Limited release in the US begins December 18!

Pop Physique

So they say childbirth is hard, but I don't think "they" have tried Pop Physique. This small exercise studio in Silver Lake boasts results similar to a personal trainer at a fraction of the price. It's not cheap, per se, but they weren't kidding about the results. I subjected myself to the Pop Sculpt class on Saturday afternoon, and it was one of the hardest, most invigorating workouts I've done in a long, long time. I enjoyed it so much that I'm dragging my sister to another class on Tuesday. This is the real deal, folks. Come to LA and sculpt that beautiful behind!

I would rather watch Law & Order than do almost anything else (almost). This Harper's Bazaar photo shoot is a dream. A DREAM. Jack McCoy, my hero. Love it. :)

This little Brooklyn bakery isn't new, but my sister and I had the pleasure of visiting Baked Charleston (their second location) on our Carolina road trip this summer. I'm here to tell you - if sweet tea and men in seersucker aren't enough of a draw to South Carolina, the Baked signature Sweet & Salty Cupcake should do the trick.

My sister just surprised me with my very own copy of Baked: New Frontiers in Baking and I can't wait to begin my quest to recreate the supreme deliciousness. First up: the award-winning Baked Brownie. Thanks K!

Los Angeles artist Victor Raphael merges traditional art-making with modern technologies to create works that explore ideas of space and time. A collection of his work spanning the last 30 years is currently on view at the USC Fisher Museum of Art. I was lucky this afternoon to participate in the first of a weekly yoga series at the museum in conjunction with Raphael's exhibition - we spread our mats across the gallery floor beneath Raphael's photographs, paintings, and video recordings. I've never done much in an art museum beyond standing and staring, and this was such a unique opportunity to experience art in a different way.

Raphael's work with Polaroids is especially interesting to me - he digitally recreates NASA images into Polaroid prints and brings each one to life with metallic paint applied directly to the photograph. Gorgeous.

I spent a very hot afternoon wandering the beaches of Coronado Island over the weekend. We visited the fabulous Hotel del Coronado and tried (unsuccessfully) to sneak into its famous ballroom. The gorgeous wood-paneled lobby, and cutie pie Spreckel's Sweets & Treats were highlights for me. The Del's rich history includes 120 years in operation, and a National Historic Landmark designation under its belt. Perhaps most notably, the hotel was the backdrop for the 1959 classic "Some Like It Hot", which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. Even if you'll never stay in one of the super plush rooms (oh, a girl can dream), The Del is definitely worth a wander...if only to walk the same halls as Miss Marilyn!

I had the recent pleasure of attending a screening of Herb & Dorothy, a documentary by Megumi Sasaki. The film chronicles the extraordinary lives of Herb & Dorothy Vogel, two New Yorkers who built a world-class contemporary art collection on the salaries of a postal worker and librarian. They began collecting the work of young and unknown artists in the early 1960s, and over the next 30 years amassed a collection that took the National Gallery of Art five giant moving vans to transport out of their apartment! 2,500 of these works were distributed to all 50 states through the 50 Works For 50 States program. To all my lovely readers and friends, just wanted to let you know that I will be disappearing for a while. My sister (who just graduated cum laude from UW - CONGRATS!) and I are embarking on a 10-day road trip down the Carolina coast, and I will be busy in July preparing for a move to Los Angeles! Lots of big changes coming up, so I'm going to take some time to enjoy the summer and figure out what I want to do next with Miss Jane.
