Yesterday the Washington Capitals added some much needed toughness to their line up by trading for 26 year old Canadian tough guy D.J. King.

The cost was a prospect by the name of Stefan Della Rovere.

Since Donald Brashear left, the Caps were left shorthanded in the enforcer department, so this should help them out, specially to protect their stars.

After setting career highs in goals, assists, points (obviously) and plus/minus in the past season, despite missing 11 games, Fleischman got rewarded with a one year contract, the terms weren’t disclosed, but at least he will be back for one more season.

He is a very promising 26 year old, and hopefully after this season he can get a longer contract.

You should never assume anything, but I’ll step out on a ledge an guess, barring injury, Mike will be on the Eastern conference team for the 2011 NHL All-Star game in Carolina.

Washington Capitals: Trade talks between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals are heating up over a possible Evgeni Malkin for Alexander Semin deal. The holdup may be the Los Angeles Kings, who have interest in both Malkin and Semin. However, it appears the Kings are leaning towards Semin and have offered defenceman Jack Johnson in exchange. There are also rumors that a three-way deal could be reached. Los Angeles would receive Alexander Semin and Kris Letang, Pittsburgh would get Mike Green and Oscar Moller, and Washington would end up with Evgeni Malkin and Jack Johnson.

I think we could all agree that perhaps Semin might be on his way out, but no way Green is, I don’t think he has ever been on the table, even if it meant bringing Malkin to Washington, not that I think they would even want the headache that Malkin and Ovechkin would be if on the same team.

Anyways since there has been little to no news on the hockey from, thanks for the laugh and check out the other south east division hockey “rumors” here.

All is pretty much quiet on the Mike Green front, the development camp has begun, and before you know it training camp will open.

In the mean time, the Washington Capitals have signed right wing Andrew Gordon, center Andrew Joudrey and defensemen Patrick McNeill and Zach Miskovic to one-year contracts and center Jay Beagle to a two-year contract.

The Capitals re-signed restricted free agent Boyd Gordon to a 1 year 800,000$ contract. He’s 26, he’s amazing at faceoffs and a solid 3rd or 4th line player, sounds like a good signing to me.

As for free agent defenseman Joe Corvo, he’s out of town, signing a 2 year deal with the Hurricanes worth 4.5 million. He’s an offensive d-man, and with Mike Green being the best at that we could do without another.

Well after the first 4 days of NHL free agency, as expected the Caps haven’t done too much. They did sign 29 year old goaltender Dany Sabourin to a one year contract, it’s widely assumed that he was signed to be a help to Hershey in the AHL.

Two players have also left the Washington organization, 29 year old Alexandre Giroux signed a 1 year 500,000$ contract with the Edmonton Oilers and 27 year old defenseman Milan Jurcina also signed a one year contract for a million dollars with the New York Islanders.
