This will be the fourth and final meeting between the two teams with Washington winning the first two games by a goal, but losing the last one on December 28th by 3 goals.

Well we can’t win them all is pretty much all I can say, the Caps dominated the whole game except for the first half of the third period and it cost them the game.

Ovechkin had 2 goals, one short of my predicted hat trick from the previous post.

Mike had an assist, was plus one, had 4 shots and 2 penalty minutes and logged over 28 minutes of ice time, which was most by any player on both teams, over 2 minutes more than Ovechkin who came in second.

It’s not what you like to see, but it’s better to see it now than in the playoffs, losses like this build character and that wins championships.

In their first meeting since 2008, the Capitals are hosting the Dallas Stars. The last game they played was in October 2008 in Dallas and Washington won a wild won 6-5.

We can only hope for another great game, where Ovechkin may burst out with a hat trick and retake the Goal scoring lead in the NHL.

And of Mike should start a new point streak.

Mike had now points in almost 27 minutes of ice time, he did manage 3 shots on net and was an even in the plus/minus department.

The Cap won again, their 3rd in a row since returning from the Olympic break, it’s hard not to notice that Ovechkin has been a little bit off, I would say yesterdays game showed some sparks of the real him. You have to wonder if it’s because of injury, or he may be tired and/or depressed from the Olympics. I assume it won’t take him much longer to come out of that slump with a bang now that Crosby has taken the goal scoring lead by 2 goals.

The New York Rangers are visiting the nation’s capital tonight, game time is 7pm eastern time.

This is the last of 4 meetings this season between the two teams, funny enough in the previous three the visiting team has always won, lets hope that trend stops tonight.

The games have always been exciting, although Mike missed the last one, he will be there tonight and expect him to be mixing up with the likes of Callahan and Avery as usual.

Tampa Bay Lightning v Washington Capitals

What an exciting game, the Caps won 5-4 and Mike logged almost 24 minutes of play, which I’m happy with, I was a little afraid they would be handing some of his minutes off to Corvo who was also north of 20 minutes.

Green continued on his current hot streak with 2 assists, 2 penalty minutes, 6 shots and was plus 2. Both assists were on goals by Walker and both were similar.

In his current 9 game point he has 13 points, and now sits 17th overall in point in the NHL and 4th in plus/minus. He’s +13 in his last 10 games and +31 on the season.

Mike got the game winner last night and increased his point streak to 8 games, he will be looking to make it 9 games tonight.

There will be some adjustments made as the new Capitals will make their debut tonight. I can’t wait to see how the lines will be made, I also hope they don’t change the power play unit, specially on the “defense” side of it, because it works great with Green and Ovie on the point.

Ryan Miller played really strong and seems to be America’s “sweetheart” for lack of a better term, but even he couldn’t stop a beautiful one timer by Mike in the 3rd period on one knee, highlight reel material.

In over 25 minutes of play Mike Green has a goal on three shots and was plus one. This was his 300th career regular season NHL game.

He also has an 8 game point streak going, with 3 goals and 8 assists in that period.

Another defenseman, with a little bit more experience, specially in the last two playoffs. This season with the Hurricanes, Joe Corvo has 12 points in 34 games and is a minus 6.

On pace to set career highs in points, goals and assists this season, Eric Belanger is a good hard working 3rd liner that has 30 games of playoff experience under his belt. Eric has 35 points in 60 games this year with the Wild.

The Caps also got a seasoned veteran with over 800 regular season games in the NHL in Scott Walker. This season with the Hurricanes he has 5 points in 33 games and is a minus 4. He just returned from injury yesterday, his first game of 2010.

Washington added some quality players and all it cost us to get these four players is Brian Pothier, Oskar Osala, a 2010 and a 2011 2nd round pick, a 2010 6th round pick, and 2010 7th round pick.

It’s obviously these moves have been made to improve our chances for this year in the playoffs and to make a serious run at the Cup.

Not sure if any of them will be in the line up tonight, but I know Mike Green will.
