Sheffield at Christmas

I love this time of year when the days are shorter and all the Christmas lights are on when you leave work. I just happened to have my camera on me tonight as I was passing by the town hall in the centre of Sheffield on my way to catch the tram. I love the way the wheel towers over the tree. I also love this time of year when I can legitimately ask a total stranger if I can have some of his warm nuts…there’s nothing better than a bag of warm chestnuts to nibble on the way home!

I’ve decided for various reasons not to take the job. I’ve explained why to my boss who has been very understanding if not very disappointed.

I’ve been in my new job for less than a month and now, someone wants to spoil it! It’s ridiculous, I’ve just settled into my desk, I have my own mug and everything and now the Regional Director wants me to leave.

Ok, it’s not as dramatic as that, actually he wants me to apply for a senior management role instead. He says I’m perfect as I have the right personality and the right experience to make the role my own. It’s a new role that’s been created due to a restructure and he says he wants me for it. The down side is that there will be some travelling involved.

What do I do?

Death of a friend

As predicted my pc at home has well and truly died. The one saving grace is that the repair man has been able to salvage all of my data from the hard drive so I haven’t lost any photos, music or personal files.

My big dilemma now is what do I buy next? Do I buy another PC or do I buy a Mac?

I know that each has it’s own set of benefits and drawbacks, I just have to weigh up which is going to be better for me!

Cold Feet!

I bought some new plain black leather shoes a few months ago. They are quite simple, nothing fancy, just something to wear for work. They were fairly inexpensive as I bought them in a sale and I put them in the bottom of my wardrobe (closet) and forgot all about them.

This morning, as it’s the first time I’ve dressed smartly for work. I’ve been wearing jeans for the past few weeks due to the construction work going on in my new offices which has now all but been completed.

I decided I’d wear the new shoes this morning as I’ve dressed all in sombre black; black shoes, black socks, black trousers, black and white striped shirt and a black v-neck pullover.

Valentine Dyall would have been proud!

I set off to work this morning in the rain and towards the end of my journey parked up in my usual park and ride spot. As I was walking across the soaked car park towards my tram stop to finish the last leg of my journey to my office, I began to realise that the new shoes must have leather soles as they immediately became very cold and felt very damp and clammy.

Next time I buy a apair of shoes, I’ll ensure I buy a pair with synthetic soles or at least remember to get them rubber soled before wearing them in the cold and wet!

Poor Lampard

So Chelsea are to sue the FA for £900,000 after Frank Lampard picked up an injury during a cramped seven-hour flight to Doha.

Lampard has been forced to return home and will now miss Saturday’s friendly against Brazil in the Middle East.

And the Blues are blaming the erstwhile FA for skimping on an economy flight, forcing the England team to spend the long-haul journey on a charter plane designed for short-haul flights only.

Fabio Capello’s pampered Premier League footballers are more used to flat beds for long journeys and were shocked to find they had to put up with seats that barely reclined.

But poor Lampard, who strained his thigh after bursting into a sprint in training, was not the only one to suffer and other players complained of cramps and muscle pains on their arrival in Doha.

I feel so sorry for these guys being forced to travel like mere mortals and I make no apologies for using a photo of him shirtless. It’s my blog afterall!
