I apologize for not being able to provide you with fresh news and tips for a couple of months. I’ve been really busy with so much work and other matters. Anyway, from now on, I’ll blog more frequently and keep you guys updated.

This post is about my yearly Gift giving. I started this last December 2008, the year when I got a pretty stable job and income from oDesk. Back when I was a child until now, I almost never fail to give something to the poor and needy. And to be quite honest, if there’s a time I don’t have a single penny to give, I just pray for them that God may guide them continuously and always give them hope.

Why I do it? Because my mom made me realize, during my early years  how lucky I am for being able to eat 3 times a day, being able to study in a private, Catholic school and having a complete, happy family. I thought why not give the street children and beggars 1 peso or a biscuit since I have more than that. I like to promote the virtue of Sharing.

My friends, don’t hesitate to offer your help to the needy.

I believe that in any way, God will reward us for our good deeds.

Below are some pictures of our Gift giving from December 2009. Me and my team drove all over Kalaw and other areas proximal to Roxas Boulevard to give humble goods to the people who work hard everyday selling stuff on the streets. I believe that they should be rewarded for doing a great job. Because In spite of the difficulties in life, they don’t resort to stealing. This event made my Christmas complete.

Though there are people who decide to end the relationship for certain reasons, over the years, there are also couples separated from each other who strive to keep their relationship strong and steady despite the fact that they’re apart. But how do they do it?

I, myself had been in a long distance relationship as well. The guy is from Canada and we’ve known each other through a common friend. He only stayed here for a while and he had to leave again back to Toronto. We decided to keep our relationship going and do whatever it takes to keep it that way. So I want to share with you friends some tips on how you could keep your long distance relationship alive.

1.      Set expectations of your relationship. There are studies saying that one key factor in a successful long distance relationships is to set an expectation on your relationship. Couples in a relationship that last ore than six months have talked about their expectations of the relationship like, how often should you see each other, how often will you talk, and what will happen in the future.

2.      Open communication. This is the foundation of any relationship and it is very important when the two of you is far from each other. Take advantage of as many various types of communication as you can such as telephone, email, webcam, letters, chat an even text messages.

3.      Look for a way to get a low-cost telephone bill. Nowadays, no need to run up hundreds in your phone bills just to talk to your absent partner. Pay some time to find a way to get the best phone service for the both of you. You may want to try these things, VOIP phone service, Skype or cell phone provider with free in-network calling, YM chat, and other alike. If you don’t mind about the cost, you can talk all night long once in a while.

4.      Webcam: Since you can’t personally be with your partner, use webcam instead. With the help of webcam you can talk with each other at the same time see each other.

5.      Spend tie for each other wisely: So what if the to of you were apart? You can still do things together and make each time unforgettable like for instance, make a weekly date to watch a movie or favorite TV sow together over the phone.

6.      Establish a good relationship habits. This will help the relationship become stable. Surely you can’t kiss each other good night but you can give him/her a nightly “I love you” text message just before bedtime can be an alternative hat establishes expectations and shared reality.

7.      Have a life! Just because you want to spend moments with your sweetie it doesn’t mean that you will sit around between contacts with him/her. Involve yourself in other things that are important to you.

Unfortunately, we only lasted for 3 years. Even though, our relationship ended, I’ve learned so many things from that experience. Hope those simple tips on how to keep you long distance relationships will help you replace the emptiness that most long distance partners feel.

Working long hours, I usually encounter neck spasm. That’s why I thought, I should write an article about it.

First, let us be familiar of what neck spasm is. Neck spasm is the involuntary contractions of the muscles in the neck. It is also sometimes referred as cramp in the neck. This involuntary muscle contraction can be felt in the head, down towards the shoulders and along the side of the neck or towards the center of the neck. If the nerve in the neck is pinched, this pain can also be felt in the arm, sometimes even all the way down the hand.

What are the causes of neck spasm?

Neck spasm pain is sometimes the cause of a sudden movement that put tremendous pressure on the muscle. When you turn your neck quickly in any direction your muscles in the neck automatically stretch and this is the reaction of a sudden action. This would eventually lead to a severe pain. In most times, the blood supply to the area is interrupted that will lead to further irritation.

Another caused of this is stress. A person who always sits on the computer all day long, it could lead to the stiffening up of the neck. Poor posture is also one causes of neck spasm. Of course, a person who frequently slouches when they work puts their spinal cord through the enormous amount of stress and tension. Even when we sleep, we don’t care about our posture this is why there are times when we wake up in the morning w could feel severe pain in the neck.

What are the symptoms?

Commonly felt are stiffness, hardness, and pain. The pain is frequently felt in the tender part of the neck. The muscle pain normally starts suddenly and becomes intense faster. But in some other cases, it can begin slowly and over a period of time, it will build up. The pain you will feel is often severe, sharp, and stabbing.

How to treat muscle spasm?

I would strongly recommend that you exercise regularly to avoid muscle spasm. Even if you are the busiest person on earth, thirty minutes of exercise a day is really something. You can also try some stretches to relieve your discomfort examples like simple neck rotation and chin tucks.

Massaging neck can also help. Just be sure to find the right muscle and put enough amount of pressure on them. If you also want, the use of cold compress can relieve the pain. For a recurring neck spasm, moist heat is the best.

You would rather bury yourself on the very ground you stand on when you see someone in a party wearing the very same threads you do.  This is almost the same disappointing feeling you instinctively get when you see an exact carbon copy of the car you drive about everyday. As much as you want your car to be unique, you wouldn’t want your ride to stick out like a sore thumb in the parking lot. Still, if fuchsia is your favorite color, then why not? A car color is a statement to the world of who you are, so if you are of the more modest and soft spoken type, go for a more subdued hue which whispers understated elegance. Try metallic magenta, and watch people be mesmerized as they see you pass by them when driving to work. Choose the color of your choice, and never again will your car be mistaken for someone else’s ride. Well, almost never again.  However, a car’s paintjob is just a part of the whole package so why not go all out and make your car an extension of your personality and your house.

Car accessories are there for the taking, so drape your car in any manner you fancy. A new set of tires, a nice set of stickers proclaiming there is a baby onboard (that means you ), or anything else that suits your taste. Car accessories need not be prohibitively expensive so you need not blow your budget just for the sake of having a personalized ride. Maybe a set of fuzzy dice hanging from your rearview mirror or a set of cushy stuffed furry animals neatly lined up atop your dashboard.

A set of Ferrari scale model cars ( the kind you get for free at a certain gasoline station ) look a lot better neatly parked atop your dashboard than idly sitting at the living room cabinet idly gathering dust. The possibilities are endless. It all revolves around your sense of taste and style. So go for it, and let your car be YOU.

This particular story is from one of my readers, Ces.

She is an oDesk newbie (joined oDesk last September 1, 2009) and was hired as a Data Entry person and with the rate of $0.35/hour. Her main task was to write articles and contents with the demand of quick turn-around time. On her 3rd and 4th week with the buyer, she was then offered a rate of $0.50/hour. And finally, offered her $1/hour if she writes the article and submits them the next day. She told me that she’s tired already and had a feeling of being underpaid.

What’s Proper in this situation?

• It is okay to accept a project with a rate of $0.35/hour if you are an oDesk newbie and if your goal is to build a good reputation and get a nice feedback.
  

What’s Wrong in this situation?

• It is not right to hire someone and ask them to work on something they’re not paid to do.
• Do not punish yourself, oDesk providers! If you think you’re doing something you are not supposed to do, tell your clients about it. But your approach is very important in this part. If you confront them, you might end up with a bad / poor feedback. (there are just some rude buyers out there ) If you feel like your buyer is a good one, you can  just email them stating your concern. But if you think your client is someone demanding and always on the run, you just got to make up a story then. That you have to stop working because of a certain valid excuse. In this way, the risk of getting a bad feedback will be lessened.

IMPORTANT TIPS:

- When accepting a project, ask for the job description. Establish with the buyer what your responsibilities and roles will be. Review them before accepting the project.

- Do not be scared. There are lots of oDesk job openings everyday that you can take advantage of. If you want your rate to increase overtime, even if you have a current project, apply to other openings with a higher rate. Be confident!

- Always sound professional yet humble & respectful. Buyers love providers who sound like they really know what they’re doing.

- Aim high! oDesk is something where you can build your Career. Trust me. Been there, Done that.

Your Keyword is Key

One of the ways that search engine filter through websites is through keywords.  The better the keywords, the easier it would be for search engines to look for your website.  Your keywords must be specific to what you think people will search for in the web.

Say for example you’re selling clothes.  Butting in “clothes” as keywords would not be enough.  This is not like medicine where a broad-spectrum or generic brand will be the panacea for every ailment.  Get into specifics like “baby clothes,”  “female designer clothes,” and so on.  Consider keywords that people will actually use when they search the web.  This way, you compete with lesser people with the same keywords.

Get the Best Domain

Choosing a domain name can be tricky.  Aside from being unique, it must show what your company and what your site is offering to the buying public.  A domain of http://www.company.com can be too generic and may be used by others.  However you could use http://www.company.com/marketing-specialist/ for your website in order to generate more traffic.  Putting in keywords in your domain name in a tactful and professional manner will give you leverage in appearing among the top list of websites indexed by search engines.

Get your Tags and Density Right

Your title and header tags are actually more important to Google’s ranking algorithm than the content of your webpage.  The algorithm looks for keywords in the header first.  Word density comes next.  In the body, you can incorporate those keywords that can be recognized by indexing spiders of Google.  Make sure that your keywords gets 7%-10% word density per website page.

Link Building

Back linkages can help increase your ranking in search engines.  No one gives back linkages to websites that they believe that are not trust-worthy.  You can start by asking some of your customers to provide a link going to your page in their websites.  If you’re offering shoes, see if you can ask websites specializing in clothes or shoe materials to link with yours.  If you’re offering marketing services, ask a partner law firm if they can back link your site to theirs.

These are just the basics on how to make SEO work for you, as a web provider and as a customer.  Understanding the intricacies of SEO will help you design your webpage to work for you, and not you to work for your website.

The research was conducted by Markus Schϋrks, MD, with other colleagues at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts.  Included in the research was migraine expert Dr. Tobias Kurth.  They analyzed 25 case-control and other similar studies of linkages between any migraine type and cardiovascular disease.  Significant association was found between migraine with aura and ischemic stroke.  No elevated risk was found, in comparison, with migraine without aura.  Increased stroke risk was found greater among women than men, age groups younger than 45 years old, smokers, and in women currently using oral contraceptives.

However, in an editorial by Elizabeth Loder, MD, from Brigham and Women’s Hospital, caution was advised against over-interpretation of the findings.  Dr Loder sated “The clinical implications of these findings are that patients who have migraine with aura should be followed closely and treated aggressively for modifiable cardiovascular risk factors.  Counseling patients about their increased risk for stroke may increase adherence to recommended treatment, but the information should be put in context - the absolute risk for stroke for most patients with migraine is low, so doubling of risk is not cause for panic.”

This means that women who suffer migraine with aura should be strongly encouraged to quit smoking.  It is also highly advisable for women who use estrogen-containing oral contraceptives to use any other form of birth control to further decrease the risk.  The American College of Gynecologists and the World Health Organization has been recommending such action with regards to the choice of contraceptives. 

Dr. Tietjen states that estrogen is related to increased activation of platelets for the repair of the endothelium.  This platelet activation is one of the factors why estrogen-containing contraceptives increase the risk of ischemic stroke.  Women can safely use estrogen containing contraceptives if they use in conjunction antiplatelet agents.

And so I clicked on it and I was directed to a new window.
