Sweeping changes have already taken over the organization with a completely new coaching staff grabbing the reigns. Now the focus shifts to the team's roster and depth chart.

Most notably, the Dolphins are making quarterback their top priority this offseason with Peyton Manning, Robert Griffin III, and Matt Flynn dominating the candidate field. Assuming that Manning and the Indianapolis Colts part ways, Miami will make a strong push for the future Hall of Famer. However, analysts believe Manning would prefer playing in a dome if he does leave Indy. If that's true, Miami's tropical weather will actually work against them for once. This is all speculation of course and it ultimately goes down to Manning's decision and his ability to play at a high level.

As for RG3 and the NFL draft, that's another uphill battle for the Fins, who'll likely need to cough up quite a bit to move up in the first round. We're talking multiple picks and/or players. The Dolphins brass will need to evaluate Griffin to the utmost extent and unanimously feel that he's The One before pulling the trigger. Lastly, we have the enticing, yet unproven, Matt Flynn waiting to be snatched out of Green Bay's grasp. The Philbin-Packers connection could make this a very likely possibility but it will be contingent of his asking price and whether Miami can secure any of the previously mentioned options. Flynn's basically a third option here.

Moving on to other positions in need of addressing, Miami will be looking to fill the vacuum that is the right tackle position. Marc Colombo didn't cut it last season and it's doubtful that he'll return in 2012. That leaves the door open to possibly using an early round draft pick on a RT. The infamous Mel Kiper Jr. suggests that Miami take Reilly Reiff - an offensive tackle of out Iowa - in the first round. Fans might not be too fond of such a pick but it might serve Miami best in the long run (especially if they can't draft a franchise-caliber QB in the first round).

On the defensive end, the Fins will need to deal with nose tackle Paul Soliai and his expiring contract. The prevailing opinion is that Soliai will be asking for a long-term contract worth big bucks. This coming after he was franchise tagged last season, which earned him roughly $15 million. If Miami were to franchise tag him again, that amount would be even steeper. That's why many believe the two sides will be parting ways this offseason, leaving the NT position vacant. Here's an unofficial list of free agent defensive linemen.

Another intriguing story comes out of Houston and their cash-strapped salary cap situation. Many believe that the Texans will be unable to re-sign defensive end Mario Williams. If so, plenty of teams will be knocking on the door of the Williams' residence, Miami being one of them. The cost of adding Williams would undoubtedly be hefty but understandable, given he's an elite talent in the NFL. To put this in perspective, Miami's chances are probably in the long shot status. But the Fins have been able to pull off surprising acquisitions in recent years, with Brandon Marshall and Reggie Bush as living proof. Just keep a watchful eye on this situation.

Expect these stories to escalate in the coming weeks and months. As always, there's never a dull moment when you're a Dol-Fan.

The Cats are 22-15-11 and have plenty to be pleased about heading into the All-Star break.

However, they're still struggling in shootouts. Once again, the Panthers failed to execute in last night’s game against the Philadelphia Flyers. Florida has now lost six shootouts and 11 overtime games this season. Philadelphia’s Claude Giroux scored the lone goal in the shootout, catapulting the Flyers to a 3-2 win over the Cats.

Florida took the lead early when Mikael Samuelsson hit a slap shot from 50 feet out. Later in the first period, the Flyers were called for interference and a bizarre bounce off Scott Clemmensen’s back slipped into the net to tie up the game at 1-1. The Flyers didn’t hold back, finishing off the first period in the lead with a goal by Jakub Voracek, 2-1.

In the second period, Versteeg broke free on a breakaway and backhanded a pass to Tomas Fleischmann, who flipped the puck into the net to tie it up at 2-2.

The Cats had plenty of opportunities in the remainder of the game, but couldn’t capitalize in the end.

Florida is tied with Washington Capitals in the Southeast Division, but is officially 7th in the Eastern Division with 34 games left. The Cats play at home next Wednesday, February 1st, against the rival Capitals. The puck drops at 8:00pm.

Chris Bosh drains a three-pointer with 0.6 left to tie the game.

The NBA season is still young but the Miami Heat are burning up the stat charts already, leading the league in points per game (ppg), point differential, and field goal percentage thus far.

LeBron James is currently the NBA's top scorer with 29.9 PPG and is shooting a stellar 59% from the field. His high percentage is due in part to his improved post game and reduction of three point shots (he's only attempted two shots from behind the arc this season).

Chris Bosh is averaging over 20 PPG with almost nine rebounds and one block a night. These numbers can be attributed to Miami increasing the touches Bosh receives in the post, which has allowed the big man to become more comfortable and aggressive.

Despite Dwyane Wade's recent foot injury, he's been able to contribute with over 18 points, 6 assists and 3 rebounds per game. Not to mention, Wade is ranked 7th in league in blocks with 12 so far, that's better than any other guard in the NBA. And his game will only get better once he heals up.

Mario Chalmers is off to the best start in his career and has provided the Heat with great perimeter defense (two steals per game) and perimeter shooting (50% three-point percentage). Chalmers' 29-point performance versus the Atlanta Hawks marked a season-high for him in scoring.

Miami is also receiving considerable support off the bench with Udonis Haslem posting 10 rebounds a nights, Norris Cole scoring 11 PPG, and James Jones shooting 50% from three-point land.

While numbers can be skewed to paint various pictures, these are stats that are difficult to dismiss. As the cliche goes, these numbers don't lie.

Miami is building upon last season's success with a quick 6-1 start, mostly overwhelming their opponents on their journey toward the promised land. However, it took a season's worth of grueling criticism, an agonizing Finals loss, and a long offseason of reflection to push the Heat to this point. Fortunately for Miami these are just the stages of building a championship pedigree.

Can the Heat finish close games? How will they manage three superstar egos? Is Erik Spoelstra fit to coach this team? These are just some of the tough questions Miami faced last season, all while making an impressive playoff run that ended just two games short of a title victory. This season the expectations are greater but the team's growth is equally great. They come in with one year of chemistry under their belt, a better understanding of their offensive potential and a tremendous thirst for redemption. That sounds like a solid recipe for success to me.

What the Heat endured last season can't be compared to anything else in NBA history, perhaps even all of sports history for that matter. They were thrown "Into the Fire" and are emerging with muscles flexing (a la Alonzo Mourning).

LeBron James is averaging almost 30 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists to start off the season, which rivals his numbers from the good ole' Cleveland days. Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh have also elevated their games; Wade on defense (averaging two blocks per game), Bosh on offense (averaging about 19 points a night). And the rest of the squad is pitching in nicely in their respective roles, with Udonis Haslem, Norris Cole, James Jones, and Shane Battier providing the bulk of reserve support.

What it adds up to is the Heat averaging 108 points per game while they hold opponents to 95 points per game. That's about a 13-point margin of victory each game. The season may be young but those stats speak volumes about Miami, especially when compared to last year's 9-8 start. Not only are they closing out close games but they're also pressing the gas when taking large leads. They've come a long way.

All in all, Miami is looking good, damn good. What remains in question is whether they can keep it up throughout the regular season and carry it over into the playoffs, ultimately landing them back in the Finals. Ah, but this is the beauty of sports and the reason why we watch.

One day after the Miami Dolphins' 26-10 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, Head Coach Tony Sparano joined the already-crowded unemployment line. Many thought that after back-to-back 7-9 seasons he would be gone by the beginning of the 2011 season, but he lasted 13 games, only four of which were wins.

Dolphins owner Stephen Ross had this to say regarding his decision to fire Sparano:

“As you know when I purchased the team I told you there is nothing more important to me at all than being a winning team and bringing back the glory to Miami that it had in the past. There has been a lot of distractions and speculation in regard to if Tony would stay or Tony would go and I think in the interest of the football team and the development of this team that this is the time we need to make a change.”

Todd Bowles will take over as the Dolphins interim head coach for the last three games of the season. “I love Todd Bowles,” said Jason Taylor. “He’s a great football coach and it’s a tough situation to get your chance but we’ll be behind him.” Miami heads into back-to-back road games. First, heading to Buffalo this Sunday and then to New England for a Christmas Eve match-up. Then bringing it home for the last game of season against the Jets at Sun Life Stadium.

The Dolphins General Manager Jeff Ireland can’t afford any more losing seasons with his job on the line as well. So, he will be looking for someone with experience entering next year. Someone like a Jon Gruden, Jeff Fisher, Andy Reid, Brian Billick, Bill Cowher or Joe Philbin. All have their pros and cons but Ireland really wants someone who has the pedigree to lead the Dolphins to winning seasons. If that doesn't happen, Ireland may suffer the same fate as Sparano.

The Panthers have a seven-point lead over the Caps in the division, which is the largest division lead in the NHL.

Dmitry Kulikov scored a career-high three points (1-2-3) and a season-high five shots, while Steven Weiss notched two goals to lead the Cats to their 5-4 win over the Capitals on Monday night. For the first time in 12 years the Florida Panthers are 15-8-4 on the season.

The Cats travel to Boston on Thursday night to face off with the defending Stanley Cup Champs. The Bruins are first in the Northeast Division and have a one-point lead over the Panthers in the East. The puck drops at 7:00 PM ET.

The Miami Dolphins have surely mounted an impressive turnaround despite their atrocious 0-7 start. Fate seems to have turned in their favor with Matt Moore stepping in as the starting QB. For the second time this season, Moore has been named as a finalist for the FedEx Air NFL Player of the Week. He threw for 3 TDs in last Sunday’s win against the Bills and has totaled 622 yards in the past three games.

Miami approaches its Thanksgiving game against the Dallas Cowboys on a three game winning streak. In that span, the team has averaged over 28 points per game and haven't allowed a single touchdown. They're clicking on all cylinders in every dimension of the game, as clearly displayed during Sunday’s 35-8 win.

According to the books, the Fins have a pretty good track record on Thanksgiving. They have won 5 out of 6 games on Turkey Day. “The pageantry and build up to the game in Dallas is really big and they do a great job with it. It’s an honor, privilege to play on Thanksgiving. We are looking forward to represent South Florida,” said Coach Tony Sarpano.

The Cowboys are coming into this game 6-4, obviously a better record than Miami. However, 4 out of those 5 Miami victories on Thanksgiving were against teams with winning records.

The Fins look to continue that trend in Big D. Kick off beings at 4:15PM on CBS.

Sunday afternoon Miami took the field against a vulnerable New York Giants team, hoping they'd upset the G-Men just like the Seattle Seahawks did a couple weeks back. Needless to say, the Fins played three solid quarters of football but faltered in the fourth, which ended up costing them the game.

Miami QB Matt Moore performed fairly well as he completed 13 of 22 attempts for 101 yards and ran for a touchdown. However, the Dolphins offense only mustered 17 points (just two points above their season average of 15 points per game). The defense gave up 10 points in the fourth quarter and allowed Giants WR Victor Cruz to snag 7 passes for 99 yards. It's safe to say that Miami missed CB Vontae Davis, who was out with a hamstring injury.

Although the game ended in another disappointment, there were some positives. RB Reggie Bush completed his second career 100-yard rushing performance. Even though Moore was intercepted twice at the end of the fourth quarter, he was accurate for the most of the game and made plenty of smart plays both inside and outside the pocket.

Miami continues its search for win number one next Sunday, November 6th, as they head to Kansas City. Kick off begins at 1:00pm on CBS.

Panthers' Goaltender Jose Theodore shined as he made 28 saves and denied three Lightning players during the shootout.

Let’s not forget about Jovo, who scored the opening goal of the gas and his for Florida in 13 years. Kris Versteeg chalked Florida's next goal during a power play with 2:55 left in regulation, which gave the Cats a 2-1 lead. But it didn’t take long for Tampa’s Marc-Andre Bergeron to tie it up 39 seconds later.

Marcel Goc came through for the Panthers by scoring the lone goal of the shootout to clinch the win for Florida. The Cats head to Tampa for a rematch tonight at 7:30 PM. The Lightning will seek revenge at home while the Panthers look to build on their success.

Yup…that’s right, a win! And it didn’t come from the Miami Hurricanes or the Miami Dolphins, who was on their bye week, this weekend.

The Florida Panthers shut out the Islanders 2-0. Stephen Weiss and Jason Garrison each scored and Goaltender, Jose Theodore made 27 saves for Kevin Dineen’s first win as the Panthers head coach.

With the Cats winning their first game, We See Red is becoming a household name. The Panther’s president and CEO, Michael Yormark took to twitter before the game on Saturday stating:

@PantherYormark At the bankatlantic center and standing in the bowl. It’s a sea of red with red seats, red scoreboard, and 3 rings of digital signage.

Although the Panthers don’t play at home until October 15, fans await to see the revamped rink. But first the Cats head to Pittsburgh to face off with the Penguins tonight.

The Florida Marlins finished out of the playoffs, it’s hard to believe the Miami Dolphins will reach the playoffs and the Miami Heat may be locked out of the playoffs.

It seems that the only team left to cheer for in South Florida is the Florida Panthers. But that will be a tough task for fans as the Cats haven’t made the playoffs in about a decade.

Even with star players like Steven Weiss and David Booth, the Panthers were 30-40 last season. Head Coach Peter DeBoer was fired in April after three seasons with the Panthers. DeBoer was given last season to redeem himself but finished last in the East and 3rd worst overall. The signs were clear: It was time for him to hit the bench.

Enter former NHL Man-of-the-Year winner Kevin Dineen, who becomes Florida's new head coach. If his credentials talk for themselves, then we will see a revamped and reenergized Panthers team this season.

The Panthers enter 2011 donning a new slogan: We See Red. It symbolizes the desire to turn things around in South Florida and thrive for contention once again. The slogan has been backed up by a bevy of offseason moves, such as the signing of defenseman Ed Jovanovski (4-year, $16.5 million deal). Jovo, as he is known, is a former 1st round draft pick by Florida and a key player in the Panther’s 1996 Stanley Cup playoff run. The Cats hope he can ignite the same flame that burned during the glory years of Panthers hockey.

The Panthers start the 2011-12 season on Saturday, October 8th in New York to face off with the Islanders.

The Dolphins continue their winless streak. They’re 0-4 for the season, and Coach Tony Sparano is still the head coach, for now. Miami will have extra time to practice and reflect upon their early season woes as they enter their bye week; they clearly need it.

After Sunday’s loss to the San Diego Chargers, Reggie Bush didn’t fly out with the team. Instead, he stayed to party. Pictures were seen all over the Internet. But maybe that’s what he needed, a couple drinks to let loose. Bush was restricted to 13 carries for 50 yards on Sunday.

QB Chad Henne is out with a shoulder injury so the Dolphins are trying out quarterbacks Trent Edwards and Brodie Croyle. Some sources claim that Henne will miss the remainder of the season. Matt Moore replaced Henne in the 26-16 loss to the San Diego Chargers. Moore completed 17-of-26 passes and threw for 167 yards. Both QBs coughed up an interception. The search is on for a QB that’ll help bring this team to the other side, the winning side. But who knows if such a QB is available right now.

The Dolphins will be back on the road next week on October 17th for a Monday Night Football game against the New York Jets. Kick off starts at 8:30 PM.

Coach Tony Sparano is 0-3 in the month of September and his job is being questioned. After last year’s season, his seat began to sizzle but now it is definitely starting to boil.

Last game in Cleveland, Miami scored just one touchdown in three stabs at the red zone. They can’t seem to get it done. And let's not forget about Reggie Bush and his inexcusable red zone fumble. He had 11 carries and a measly 12 yards in Sunday’s loss to the Browns. The worst part: It’s not like the Browns played well either. Colt McCoy was missing receivers all game until the winning drive, when he completed 9 out of 13 passes for 80 yards.

In the fourth quarter of Sunday’s loss, Chad Henne threw three straight incomplete passes followed by an interception intended for Brandon Marshall. Confidence is still and issue according to Saprano and Henne. What’s it going to take for these guys to go out there and get that ever-so-elusive W?

There are 13 games left for the Fins to show if they have any resilience in them. Otherwise, Tony might be heading to the bench for good. Miami travels to San Diego on Sunday, October 2nd, to face off against the Chargers. This will be Miami's final game before entering their bye week. Kick off starts at 4:15 EST on CBS.

Coming off back-to-back 7-9 seasons, the Miami Dolphins are still looking for answers but their 0-2 start this season will make it an uphill climb. The Fins have an exceptionally inexperienced team this year with no depth. They have 15 players that have two years or less playing in the NFL. Vontae Davis will be playing on limited basis with a hamstring injury and Karlos Dansby is out with an injured groin. This allows for second-year player Nolan Carroll and veteran Will Allen, re-signed by the Dolphins on September 14 after Benny Sapp was fired, a chance to see some snaps. They're hoping to avoid another embarrassing performance like when they gave up 517 yards to Tom Brady in the season opener.

After last Sunday’s loss versus the Houston Texans, Coach Sparano and Linebacker Jason Taylor said the Dolphins need more confidence. But where does Miami find the confidence when they've had no success thus far? This is the most mind-boggling question facing the team right now. This is especially true when most of Miami's young players are still trying to find their own self-confidence and comfort in a brand new league. Daniel Thomas, running back out of Kansas State, had some good runs but gave up one crucial fumble last game. While the rookie looks like he has potential, he still has plenty to learn.

Acquiring veteran Reggie Bush in a pre-season trade that sent reserve safety Jonathan Amaya to New Orleans was perceived as a sign of improvement for Miami. But Bush has only recorded a total of 17 carries and 56 yards rushing to begin the 2011 season with the Miami Dolphins. That’s not exactly the Reggie Bush fans were hoping to see at Sun Life Stadium.

But are fans really hoping to see their guys in aqua and orange win at home this season? The Fins are 1-11 over the past 12 home games. That's why it might be a good sign for Miami to be on the road for 5 out of the next 6 games. Perhaps they will earn the label of road warriors as they did early on last season.

The Dolphins head to Ohio this Sunday to face Offensive Coordinator Brian Daboll's former team, the Cleveland Browns. Kickoff starts at 1:00 PM EST on CBS.

Miami Sports Generation promised you intense hockey coverage over the course of the 2011-12 season. It is with many apologies that we say we cannot commit to this promise.

Over the weekend I was hired to be a correspondent with Inside Hockey.com, a website that produces columns on all 30 NHL teams. I will be the Panthers beat writer. I do not know what David plans to do or if he plans to replace me on the hockey beat, but in the mean time I encourage you to go to the website and enjoy some articles on all of the teams (Especially the Panthers). It'll be worth it, I promise!

My intention is to remain and write features for the site, and maybe next year I will actually get a few Marlins posts in! Of course, all of this depends on David's decisions. It's been a pleasure being your brief hockey beat writer here at Miami Sports Generation. Hopefully you will see some RED and I will get to see you out at the BankAtlantic Center this season. If you see me, feel free to say "hi!" and let me know what you think of my columns! I love feedback.

Before the game, the two teams paused for a moment of silence to remember Wade Belak (Suicide), Ruslan Salei, Karlins Skratstans, and Alexander Karpovtsev (Plane Crash), all of the Lokomitiv hockey team, and all of the victims of the 9/11 attacks.

Scott Timmins, who was celebrating his birthday, scored the first goal at the 15:20 mark in the first period. The goal came off a rebound in front of the net. Logan Shaw and Alexander Petrovic were credited with assists on the play. Timmins played in 19 games with the Panthers last year and had one goal.

After Tampa Bay's Cory Conacher scored early in the 2nd period, tying the game at 1, the Panthers rookies took over.Vladislav Namestinkov, the Lightning's top pick in the 2011 draft, took a high sticking call, and his Florida counterpart took advantage. Jonathan Huberdeau passed the puck to Timmins, who tried to give it right back to the Number 3 Overall pick in June's draft. Huberdeau saw it in front of the net and put the puck home at 6:20 for his first goal in a Panther uniform.

The Panthers made it a trifecta, with Timmins taking a penalty for boarding, and John McFarland scoring a shorthanded goal 10:52 in.

At the 17:52 mark, however, Ondrej Palat brought the Lightning back to within one. But the Panthers came out of the gate looking to get the goal back, and did 3:39 in. Left-winger Corey Durocher gave the Cats the insurance and ultimately, the Panthers won 4-2.

CAT BYTES:

Erik Gudbranson and Carter Ashton fought in the game. The fight led to a loud chant of "Let's Go Panthers".

Approximately 2,000 fans were in attendance for the game Sunday night.

The Rookies were coached by AHL coach Chuck Weber.

The Lightning fell to the Nashville Predators 7-3 Monday night.

The Panthers will face the Predators at 11am on Tuesday. Look for live updates on here or on Twitter. Follow @790Justin for more!

We've Got You Covered!

Well, I can finally say it: It's hockey season! This was perhaps the most exciting offseason in Panthers history and it is sure to be followed with an exciting regular season.

Rookie camp opened today at the Saveology IcePlex in Coral Springs, and we're only a week away from the first full-squad workouts.

Myself, along with Miami Sports Generation, have you covered this season. On and off the ice, we'll make sure you see RED! I will be posting my story on the 4 former Panthers players we lost in the past week + over the weekend, followed by a full off-season recap. The Panthers will host a rookie tournament this weekend. On Sunday, they'll face the Tampa Bay Lightning at 6pm, on Monday the Lightning take on the Nashville Predators, also at 6pm. Tuesday will see the Panthers and the Predators, at 11am...and on Wednesday, the Panthers and Lightning square off again at 11am.

My work commitments will keep me away from camp until Tuesday, but I will be out there at 11am for the rookie game. More on that to come.

Stay tuned for more on Rookie Camp and Training camp, as we countdown to the preseason opener on Monday, Sep 19. (It's a doubleheader against the Nashville Predators...and I'll be at BOTH games!!!)

When I got home from an 8 hour day at the ballpark, I had no idea the firestorm I had created. Perhaps you'll recognize this tweet:

"Unofficial count of 347 at sunlife for first pitch... myself included! Counted by hand. Still not the smallest crowd I've seen here"

It was my tweet, and a factual tweet. Maybe I should've thought twice but I've tweeted about Marlins attendance before and never gotten any attention from it. I figured the journalists who normally find any reason to bash the Marlins would understand the game was rescheduled for the DAY BEFORE its original date and that the weather forecast was still iffy. Now I didn't expect them to know school has already started down here and most college students have begun to return to campus (Actually it was also the first day of UM classes).

The original "400 person game" which made headlines.
Which game had more people? I think yesterday!

As I continued to tweet and check my twitter replies, like I always do, from my spot in section 110 on my phone, I noticed something peculiar. People I didn't know were RT-ing me and I got many comments about my tweet. I was just stating the facts, remember. As I checked my newsfeed, I noticed some of the twitter handles I follow for sports "juice" were mentioning links about Marlins attendance. Keep in mind, this was during the 1st game of a doubleheader. I was floored to see my tweet mentioned. Something I am used to, embrace, and enjoy, was turning into the joke of the nation. Heck, even SportsCenter only mentioned game 1 on the air and did that just to talk attendance.

So, with that all in mind, I'd like to share with you a few facts:

FACT: Yes, 2500-3000 isn't a lot of people, but by the end of game 1 (the SCHEDULED start time), that was the approximate attendance.

FACT: I had to switch work shifts to go to both games. Most people don't have that luxury, and I am grateful to the people who helped me switch.

FACT: I am also a member of the media, but I was a fan yesterday.

FACT: Yes, I do love small crowds. So what? I'm honest! I love baseball, I am a diehard, and I work in baseball! If anyone tells you they enjoy going to a sold out game (other than for financial reasons), they're lying. It's so much more fun to be amongst a small crowd!

FACT: They only had 1 concession stand open...so yes there were still lines! But you get to park right up close (easy exit), and you get to know your fellow fans. Can you do that in Philly, NY, or Boston?

However, I do have to give credit to one member of the media who covered this right. Dan O'Leary of the NY Daily News (@DanOLeary25) reached out to me for an interview. His column is the only one on this topic that I endorse. However, I even got a bit of backlash for that.

People have asked me why I didn't bash management. Here is your true answer: The same reason I don't bash fans. Yes, Marlins management has made some stupid moves, which may or may not have had an effect on this season. However, I am not going to get suckered into tying a long time argument with another long time argument. Management does not control the weather, after all! One article asked why a city of 2.5 million people can't draw more fans? People work and attend school, a storm is coming, and the team's bad.

Believe it or not, people HAVE shown up for Marlins games
in the past!

So why am I posting this? Well as a diehard fan, I am pleading to the media to go easy on us. In my lifetime, my home team has won 2 WS championships. Who cares how many people show up? This team won't get contracted (read the agreement for the new stadium if you wonder why.). This will probably go down as one of the 3 worst years for this Marlins franchise, but if you in the media take away attendance, you'll see this has consistently been a team that competes well into September and is respectable despite its low payroll.

I feel like I can't win here. My tweets turn into bash attendance, and the Marlins fans who read my tweets and the articles want me to bash management. That's not what sports are all about! What ever happened to sitting back, enjoying the game, and just having fun! That's what makes baseball so great. There's no point in complaining. I got to enjoy 18 innings of baseball for $1 yesterday (I used a rain delay ticket which you can exchange for another game). I don't care if 300 or 30,000 people show up, as long as I get my money's worth and have a good time, it makes no difference!

Last Minute Add: I want to share this tweet I received from @Davejshea

@790Justin was at a Marlins game in 2003 against Expos, 185 fans. Also a DH and also counted by hand.

2003 was the WS year. Weather causes havoc and that DH was due to weather (believe it was another hurricane, actually). It happens. No need to place any blame or make a scene out of it. If they had played the game today as scheduled, there'd be either no complaints, or people would complain that they played in the middle of a hurricane. The bottom line, is the Marlins and their fans will never win. Ever!

Panthers Ink Bergenheim

SUNRISE - The Florida Panthers completed what may be one of the most memorable, if not most successful days in franchise history Friday. After signing Scottie Upshall, Jose Theodore, Ed Jovanovski, and Marcel Goc, and acquiring Kris Versteeg in a trade with Philadelphia, the Panthers locked up left wing Sean Bergenheim Friday night.

<img border="0" height="166" i$="true" src="http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/e/e3/Sean_Bergenheim_Tampa.jpg/200px-Sean_Bergenheim_Tampa.jpg" width="200" />
Bergenheim comes to the Panthers from their intra-state rival Tampa Bay Lightning. He had one of his better seasons in 2010-11, posting 14 goals and 15 assists, but his postseason numbers were even more staggering. He had 9 goals and 2 assists in 16 games as the Lightning advanced to the Eastern Conference finals. Bergenheim has played 326 games, the majority of which with the New York Islanders. He was drafted by the Isles in the first round in 2002.

For Panthers fans, this is a long time coming. We will see what happens when the team hits the ice in October, but most of the holes have been filled and the talent level is up. The Panthers are still short of the salary floor, so stay with us at M-S-G for the latest Panthers news and notes!

The Panthers added Tomas Fleischmann to a growing list of new Panthers. He joins Scottie Upshall, Ed Jovanovski, Jose Theodore, Marcel Goc, and Kris Versteeg, all added today.

<img border="0" height="140" i$="true" src="http://2.cdn.nhle.com/avalanche/images/upload/2010/12/Fleischmann_Tomas_Gallery201011/FleischmannTomasGallery201011_1_std.jpg" width="200" />
Fleischmann may be a familar name. He recently played for the Washington Capitals, but was traded to the Colorado Avalance midway through last season. However, he was diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism which halted his career in January. The doctors recently cleared him, and he should be healthy by training camp. 2009-10 was the biggest season of the 27-year-old's career. He had 23 goals and 28 assists that year, his last fully healthy season. According to Capgeek.com, the signing is for 4 years at $4.5 million per year, which is slightly much for a potentially injured player. If healthy, though, Fleischmann should very quickly show his worth.
They added Nolan Yonkman, a defenseman with 16 games of NHL expeirence last year, and 66 overall. The journeyman played last year for the AHL's Milwaukee Admirals and NHL's Phoenix Coyotes.

Florida began the day needing to spend around $40 million dollars, just to make the NHL mandated salary floor for 2011-12. The first order of business was to bring in veteran players, and it started with goalie Jose Theodore. But the Panthers weren't done, adding Scottie Upshall, Ed Jovanovski, and Marcel Goc.

Theodore (pronounced Joe-Say TEE-a-door) won the Hart (MVP) and Vezina (best goaltender) Trophies in 2001-02, and the Bill Masterson Memorial Trophy (Sportsmanship) in 2009-10. While last year he served as a backup, posting a 15-11-3 record with a 2.71 GAA and .916 save %, the soon to be 35 year old from Laval, Quebec will be asked to start again. He has also spent time in Washington and Colorado, but is probably best known for his time in Montreal. Theodore spent parts of 8 seasons playing with his hometown Canadiens. He has extensive playoff experience, appearing in 51 games with a 2.82 GAA and .911 save %. Theodore's deal is for 2 years with a cap hit of $1.5 million.

Upshall says goodbye to Columbus, where he was shipped to on deadline day. He spent the start of his season with the Phoenix Coyotes. Upon the signing, Upshall changed his twitter avatar to the "leaping cat", and posted:

"Ecstatic to be joining the Florida Panthers Organization!! Awesome day... Truly a dream come true."
Upshall scored a career high 22 goals last season. The Left Winger from Fort McMurray, AB is just 27, but is now with his 5th team. Upshall also has extensive playoff experience from the Phoenix Coyotes surprise run in 2009-10, scoring 3 goals and adding 2 assists in 17 playoff games. Florida is taking a slight risk with the winger, signing him for 4 years at a $3.5 million cap hit per season, but Upshall should be a key member of this club for years to come.

Upshall seen with teammate Ed Jovanovski

Ed Jovanovski returns "home". The 35 year old defenseman (happy birthday last week by the way!) was selected first overall by the Panthers in the 1994 entry draft. He went on to have 3 1/2 successful seasons with the Panthers before being traded to Vancouver for a guy named Pavel Bure (ever hear of him?) From 1999-2006, "Jovocop" stayed in Western Canada, before trading rainboots for sunscreen again, playing the last 5 years with the Phoenix Coyotes. The Windsor, ON native was given a 4 year contract worth over $4 million a season, all but ensuring he finishes his career with the team he started it all with. Jovanovski's rookie season with the Panthers is still the closest he ever got to the Stanley Cup, and you know the veteran defender wants to change his fate back where it all began.

If the worst you do in a day filled with signings is pick up Marcel Goc, then you're having a good day! Goc is the highest ever German picked in the NHL draft (unless you count Dany Heatley, but he's really Canadian), having been picked 20th overall in 2001 by San Jose. Goc is a depth guy. He'll give you 10-ish goals a year, but he was a +10 last year. He makes things happen and will be a good third liner. The 27 year old will see a cap hit of $1.7 million over 3 years.

These four join Kris Versteeg, who was acquired around 4:00 pm from the Philadelphia Flyers. They also join defenseman Brian Campbell, who was acquired at the draft from the Chicago Blackhawks and quickly signed a 5 year $7+ million dollar deal with the Panthers, and Tomas Kopecky, who was also acquired from the Blackhawks in a different deal. He signed a 4 year $3 million dollar contract just prior to the opening of free agency.

What happened today is unprecedented in the world of the new NHL. Hockey fans will love these moves, and the Panthers are very close to being a playoff team with these new players. If there is no basketball or football this season, South Florida sports fans WILL have something to cheer for come the fall!

The 25 year old was acquired by the Flyers last season from Toronto. He had 21 goals and 25 assists all told last year, but ended a -9 because a lack of production by his teammates in Toronto. Panthers General Manager Dale Tallon originally acquired Versteeg from the Boston Bruins organization in the 2006-07 season. He has put up at least 20 goal seasons in each of his first 3 full years in the league, 2 of them with Tallon's Blackhawks. He joins Jack Skille, Brian Campbell and Tomas Kopecty, all former Blackhawks who are now members of the Panthers.

In fact, I may be THE only one who cares. But, you'll be thanking me for writing this story when the Panthers reach the Stanley Cup Finals! (Eventually!)

SUNRISE- The Florida Panthers introduced their new head coach, Kevin Dineen, on Wednesday afternoon at a press conference in the Chairman's Club at BankAtlantic Center. While this is Dineen's first NHL head coaching job, the 47 year old has led the Portland Pirates of the AHL to a record of 266-155-59 with a .616 winning percentage, the best in the franchise’s history. During this tenure with Portland, his teams won at least 40 games in four of out six seasons, won a pair of division titles (05-06 & 10-11) and advanced to the AHL’s Eastern Conference Finals twice (05-06 & 07-08). (per the Florida Panthers press release)

“It is with great pleasure that I welcome Kevin Dineen to the Florida Panthers organization,” said Panthers General Manager Dale Tallon. “Kevin brings to our organization more than 25 years of playing and coaching experience. He played in more than 1,100 National Hockey League games and is one of only seven players in the league’s history to score more than 350 goals, while registering more than 2,000 penalty minutes."

He scored the final goal in Whalers history, on the same day Tiger Woods won his first Masters title in 1997. Dineen also played for the Philadelphia Flyers, where he was coached by his father for a season. He moved with the Whalers to their new home in Carolina (Hurricanes) after the 1996-97 season. Dineen then played for the Ottawa Senators before concluding his career in with the Columbus Blue Jackets. He played 1,188 games over his 19 year career, and also served as captain for Hartford, Philadelphia, and Carolina.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The defenseman was selected by Florida in the 6th round of the 2005 draft and most recently played for Moscow of the KHL.

Three minutes left. Ten points down. And all fingers pointing to a trip back to Miami for game six.

Then, we witnessed the magic that two NBA superstars can orchestrate in the clutch. Dwyane Wade and LeBron James grabbed their capes and tightly strapped them around their necks to lift Miami to an unexpected series-clinching victory. One could say "where there's a will, there's a Wade (and a James)." It was a spectacle that shocked the city of Chicago, infuriated the Heat haters and set off celebrations across South Florida. Most of all, it was a moment that took Pat Riley's vision one step closer to fruition.

Chicago scored more points in the paint, secured more rebounds and dished out more assists than Miami. Given these three stat points one would believe that the Bulls emerged victorious. However, the Heat defied the odds and overcame adversity when it counted most. In essence, Miami has overcome adversity all season long and this was just another notch on their belt.

Now what separates Miami from it's second title is a heated Finals rematch against the Dallas Mavericks. Best of all, the Heat will be able to avenge their two regular season losses to the Mavs and silence the outspoken mouth of Mark Cuban.

Do not doubt for one second that Miami remembers the billboard-sized poster that Dallas plastered outside their arena, which proclaimed "Beat the Heat" back in their November match-up. Do not doubt for one second that the Heat took note of Cuban's comments on how "great" Miami's early season struggles were.

When it comes to Miami's determination to beat the Mavericks and take the title, there is no doubt.

With an emphatic breakaway dunk to seal a series win over the Boston Celtics, the Miami Heat made a strong statement to the basketball world: "We are the new beasts of the East." The Heat knew that in order to take the next step toward becoming elite they would have to defeat the reigning Eastern Conference Champions first. There may be plenty of basketball to be played before Miami can hoist up that Larry O'Brien trophy but their destiny is already clear.

As arrogant as this may sound, there is no stopping the Heat now. After all of the turmoil, criticism and pressure-packed experiences Miami went through this season they will make sure their success won't go to waste.

These players did not take less money to lose in the Eastern Conference Finals nor in the NBA Finals.

These players did not sacrifice fame and ego to falter now.

These players did not come this far to go home now.

Sorry Chicago and Atlanta, the Heat are an unstoppable freight train right now that not even Denzel Washington can bring to a screeching halt. Same goes for Dallas, Oklahoma City and Memphis. As great of a run those teams have had, none of them have been motivated and tested as much as the Heat by swarms of haters and doubters.

Dwyane Wade once said, "doubt me, I love it." That has become a phrase that the entire team has embraced and used as fuel for their fire. And right now, that fire has become a full blown inferno.

This inferno is burning away all the doubts that many critics fasted onto Miami from the moment of LeBron James took his talents to South Beach, creating the new Big Three. They wont be able to set aside their egos. Their bench is too thin. They can't win close games. All of these criticisms have now been burned.

And this is only the beginning. The blaze has just ignited and Miami is prepared to leave a trail of destruction on their path toward the title. I will say it again, there is no stopping them now.
