The opening ceremony of the 2012 IFFK 2012 was one of the most memorable events ever organised in the history of IFFK 2012 . With such a fantastic beginning, the expectations are high for the closing ceremony. The closing ceremony of the 17th edition of the International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK 2012) is all set to fulfill the expectations. In an exclusive talk with metromatinee.com, T. K. Rajeev Kumar, the brain behind the opening and closing ceremony revealed the programme for the closing ceremony. 'It will be very special. Audience will participate in the program which is inspired from the Thappattam, a unique art form', Rajeev Kumar said. Metromatinee.com was granted permission to watch the practice at the Vailopilly Samskrithi Bhavan. The program is conceived as a 'journey of rhythm'. Performers are armed with 'thappu', a stick like thing-one stout and the other thin. They beat it against each other along with dance moves creating a beautiful rhythm. The Thappattam begins with a solo mridhangam and then builds on the rhythmic beating. The journey of rhythm rises in crescendo.
100 performers will participate for the closing ceremony. 'Initially only twenty participants were decided upon. But finally we decided to feature hundred performers', said Rajeev Kumar. The entire team in unison sounds like thunder and the heavy sounds in nature. It has a very sublime feel, like that of the climbing crescendo that we hear at Thrissur Pooram. Above all these is the highlight of the closing ceremony-audience participation. In a very novel and innovative move, the entire audience will be the main participants along with the performers. Sticks will be kept near each seat. Audience can perform the rhythm following the cue of the performers. It will be carnival at Nishagandi tomorrow. Getting the audience to participate is a fitting acknowledgement of the support and encouragement that they have shown to the fest. Meanwhile, at the practice session at Vailopilly, each time the rhythm climbs the top notes of the crescendo, the listener is transported. Already with only a tip of the iceberg showing, it is sublime and spiritual.. Needless to say about the coming festivities. Minister Ganesh Kumar and T. K. Rajeev Kumar supervised the practice.

Not many would take much notice of the team working to ensure that the audience get a clear idea regarding the programs organised at the 2012 IFFK 2012 . The MC Management team is doing a good job compering for the various functions. They are all college students from various parts of the city. A grooming session was organised for the team to prepare them for the IFFK 2012. Only one among them, Chinnu has prior experience in compering. She has anchored a few shows for the television. 'The training was very intense. Even though everybody here no experience doing this before, the grooming has turned all into proffesionals', says Chinnu. The grooming session was handled by Radhakrishnan, Govind and Leela Panickar. 'We have trained them to handle any kind of situation at the festival. There were many practice sessions. Videos were of these sessions were taken and mistakes corrected accordingly', said Radhakrishnan. Girls are the majority in the team with only one boy. They are given due care and protection by the organisers. Many have received offers from various people to compere for their function. The team is an important part of IFFK 2012 and contributes to the smooth functioning of the festival.

IFFK 2012 paid homage to many great masters of cinema, who have left a legacy behind them. The main speakers for paying homage at the 2012 IFFK 2012 were Shyamaprasad, Priyadarshan, Menaka, T. V. Chandran, T. K. Rajeev Kumar etc. Mastero T. Damodharan was remembered at the function. His careful research in historical details before doing a film and his passion for the work he does were remembered. Chandramathi Balan talked about Thilakan. She remembered his commitment to the craft. 'For the shoot of 'Moonampakkam', three days before the shoot began, Thilakan visited Nagercoil and walked miles in the interior villages to get into the skin of the character', reminscised Chandrika. Most speakers had something personal to say about these great men. Remembering Vindhyan, Shyamaprasad spoke of the days spent with him as a friend and classmates. T. K. Rajeev Kumar spoke about Navodhaya Appachan. 'It was Navodhaya Appachan who introduced me to the film industry. He saw my performance when I was at the university college and personaly called me to work for him', said Rajeev Kumar. 'He was a great asset to the film industry and a gudie to youngsters', he added. He is fondly called papa by everyone including Mohanlal and Fazil. Padmakumar was also featured in the homage section. T. V. Chandran talked abov the humble and considerate nature of Padmakumar. He narrated an incident where at the set of a film, when Nedumudi Venu asked about the reduced number of horses for the second shoot, Padmakumar calmly replied that he had lent it to Priyadarshan for the shoot of 'Thenmavin Kombathu'. IFFK 2012 Secretary K. Manoj Kumar was also present at the homage section.
