I come across this website (www.publicprofiler.org) that shows the surname distribution across world based on Frequency per Million (FPM).

If you search the surname 'SMITH', US is in fourth place followed by Australia, UK, NZ based on FPM.

As entire world is one global village these days, people from different countries are exposed to different cultures. Different countries has different norms about their last names. For some people last name represents their father's name, for some mother's name and for some its just a family name that they carry.

Many countries citizens carry father's last name for their children even though some spanish community use two last names for their children (both parents). In USA too some parents naming their children with two last names (hyphenated into one Eg. Elijah Sadler-Moore). This might get complicated if next generation too decided to carry two names (they will end up in having four last names).

With phenomenal success of facebook, myspace, linkedin and many more popular social networks, the subject of 'whether social networks are good or bad' is being discussed every where.
