The Origins Human Family Tree

This program reveals the human origins. Spencer Wells with his team spent 4-5 years researching the origins of human family tree. He along with his team travelled across world and gathered DNA of 350,000 people of diverse background.

According to 'The Human Family Tree' it all began 60,000 years ago in East Africa, when our forebears began to leave the continent. One group crossed the 17 miles of water to the Arabian peninsula and from there spread out. Some stayed in the Middle East. Others moved east on a southern route into Southeast Asia and Australia.

Another group went north to the mountains of Central Asia and eventually arrived in Europe. Still another took the longest, hardest route: the northern route to Siberia, where its people crossed into North America on the land mass joining the two continents at the time and made it down to Chile.

Unfortunately its no longer true, with steady rise in asian immigration the 7 out of 10 common last names are Asian origin. Chiense surnames like LEE, CHEN standing at second and third place while fighting with 'SMITH' for the first place.

Local news coomunity beleive rise in overseas students and and asian immigration causing the game changer in surname rankings.

Does your surname match your profession ?

Its very common that many of surnames exists today are originated from the profession people were doing. Like Walker, potter, Smith, Wright, Miler

What if you surname doesn't match with the profession you do today ?

A family from Barnoldswick, Lancashire, England found their answer. Simply change your surname that tells your profession.

Polly and Barry Pugh and daughter Amanda are in the business of making beds, they have made an estimated 3.5million beds at the Silentnight factory in Barnoldswick. They changed their surname to 'SLEEP'.
Barry, 60, from Barnoldswick, said: “Beds are in this family’s blood and we have all worked here at Silentnight for years.

“But, despite the temptation none of us have ever been caught sleeping on the job.
“We thought, because we are so involved with the industry, and in recognition of national love your bed week, we’d do something big to celebrate this year.
“I guess it does not come much bigger than changing your name to ‘Sleep’.”
