Focus: HOPE is a Detroit-based organization dedicated to intelligent and practical solutions to the problems of hunger, economic disparity, inadequate education and racial divisiveness.  In addition to support for the initiative within the corporate headquarters, 24 Meadowbrook associates volunteered their time at Focus: HOPE in Detroit for a full day packing over 1,100 boxes of food for delivery to homebound senior citizens. Meadowbrook team members also collectively donated a variety of gardening supplies, from gloves to shovels, that are needed to maintain the non-profit’s community garden, which feeds needy members of the local community. Additionally, Meadowbrook also presented Focus: HOPE with a monetary donation and will serve as a sponsor of the organization’s 38^th Annual WALK, which will be held on October 14, 2012.

“Focus: HOPE is such a wonderful organization and we are very happy to contribute to their effort to fight hunger in our communities,” said Cubbin. “Our associates took this initiative very seriously and we are extremely proud of their willingness to help out those who are less fortunate than themselves.”

The Michigan Insurance Hall of Fame will honor Mr. Segal and two fellow leaders in the insurance industry at the 17th annual induction ceremony of the Michigan Insurance Hall of Fame on August 18, 2010 on the campus of Olivet College. The Michigan Insurance Hall of Fame was established at Olivet College in 1994 as a way to pay tribute to individuals who have made a significant impact on the ability of the Michigan insurance and risk management industry to serve the public. An election panel, representing a cross-section of the insurance and risk management business, identifies leaders and/or innovators who have made significant contributions to the industry.

Mr. Segal founded Meadowbrook in 1955 as Meadowbrook Insurance Agency. Under his leadership, Meadowbrook grew from a start-up local retail agency into a leading, national specialty risk management insurance company. He is also recognized for his philanthropy and for helping many businesses and groups by developing insurance alternatives when insurance was unaffordable or unavailable. Recently retired, he continues to serve on the Board of Directors as Non-Executive Chairman and as a consultant to Meadowbrook.

Mr. Segal said, “It is an honor to be recognized by such an esteemed organization as the Michigan Insurance Hall of Fame. I am proud of all that we’ve accomplished and the meaningful impact we’ve had on the lives of so many clients, associates and shareholders. I am extremely grateful for the recognition and for the continuous support of everyone within my Meadowbrook family.”

For nearly 30 years, Operation Feed has combined forces with businesses, grocers, food companies and Ohio farmers, among many others, to provide food for the thousands of hungry people across central and eastern Ohio. The 2009 program centers on the theme of “challenges”. With the increasing economic strain on individuals to provide for their families, the Ohio Food Bank is experiencing more requests to accommodate these needs. The support of the community and professional organizations is vital to assisting in the fight against hunger.

Recognizing this need, Century set a goal of raising 5,000 meals for the Operation Feed program, and ended up raising over 9,000 meals, a true testament to the giving nature of the company’s associates. The campaign to abolish hunger came to a close this week culminating in a company-wide celebratory lunch where associates participated in final fundraising games, including a pie-throwing contest, which further extended their outreach.

“The levels of hunger in our community are astounding and saddening,” said Timm. “Century is humbled to have participated in this year’s Operation Feed program. As an company dedicated to the insurance and well-being of our clients, so too are we looking forward to continued community support in the future.”

Mr. Eastman has been with Meadowbrook’s corporate communications department for the past two years, overseeing corporate marketing, messaging, online and design services. In his new role as Creative Director, Brent’s responsibilities will also include the management of all Meadowbrook websites and leading overall brand strategy. Working alongside all business units of the company, Mr. Eastman will also be responsible for implementing brand guidelines, directing the design process and reviewing all creative materials for their alignment with the overarching company brand.
