The Mustang symbolizes everything that makes cars enjoyable. They are sleek and yet powerful, they are classic yet forever contemporary. Despite the fact that it seems as though there will never be anything that could change its beauty, there are still those who like to build on that initial exquisite machine and craft it into something more personalized. This can be achieved by using Mustang parts.

There are endless possibilities available for Mustang parts and some of them include changing the exterior, while others focus on the way it performs. One of the most popular of the Mustang parts is the body kit. This is a specially designed set of body parts that are created to give the owner of the vehicle the ability to change the way the car looks. This can be done in a subtle way, such as changing just the front bumper or adding a spoiler. Or you can go to the extremes in completely modifying the way the exterior looks. The sky is truly the limit on the possibilities you can achieve.

There are also other Mustang parts that focus on the interior of the car, such as adding new or alternative dashes and gauges. This can be a great way to personalize your Mustang and give it the look and feel that you have always wanted.

One amazing improvement that can be made using Mustang parts is to add air suspension. This is a system that will replace your internal coil system and give it an updated smooth ride. This luxury feel comes from the computerized control of air bags which replace the stock system. The computer can control each tire individually, making it possible that you can have a remarkably smooth ride, regardless of how rocky the road is. You can also program the system to automatically adjust once your Mustang reaches a particular speed, typically sixty miles per hour. When this happens the air suspension will move the body of the automobile into an aerodynamic stance, giving you less resistance against the wind.

There are a number of other Mustang parts that can benefit you, such as adding in superior lighting. This is done with the help of HID lights. These are bulbs made using xenon gas that burns a bright color able to illuminate a larger distance than any halogen bulb could ever possibly reach.
To add to this, there is the highly popular performance chip, which is a device that essentially hijacks your engine control unit and tells it how you want each onboard system to perform. If you set it properly it is possible to get an amazing amount of additional horsepower and gas mileage. You can also reduce your impact on the environment by changing your vehicle's fuel emissions.

There are endless possibilities to make this car, which was built for perfection, even better and by using Mustang parts you can achieve this with relative ease.

Nitrous stuff and clutch for sale

I have several things up for sale on ebay that I purchased for my Mustang and never got around to installing. Sitting in the garage all summer was not what I wanted to see my Stang do. However, my interests changed to my bike and I spent all summer riding and wrenching on it. I even stopped updating this blog.

Well, we decided to trade in the Mustang and upgrade the family-mobile to a fully loaded Honda Pilot. I still have my bike and I'll likely keep blogging but I might change up the URL and move everything over to "Blogging about my Bobber" and see how it goes.

New ACM custom build

I had the fortune to see this bike in person right before it was completed. In-fact, the day I saw it, the builder was just putting on the rear fender. I love the old-school fat tire in the front and I absolutely love the tank. I wish it had Z bars instead of straight drag bars. It was a bit of a stretch for my back when I sat on it. If anyone out there has been drooling over my bike, check out this new one from American Classic Motors. It needed a wash down and it needed to be driven. After a quick wash job I took it out for a spin. I've only driven it twice since I got the bike. It drove nice but a clutch change is on the horizon. I have the stage 2 clutch and flywheel but I just need to take the time to do it.

Saddle bag for rigid a motorcycle

Okay, its been quite a while since I've done anything with any of my blogs. I've been so busy working, riding my bobber and...well, working on my bobber. These things really require a lot of maintenance. I have not had the greatest luck with the Makuni carburator but that's a whole 'nother story.

My quest for a properly running bike lead me to wishing I had a saddle bag but as all rigid bobber owners know, that's not as simple of a wish as it sounds. There are a lot of cheap handlebar bags out there for tool storage but with a springer, I didn't like any of them. So, I was left with a frame mounted bag. I found them everywhere I looked. JP Cycles has a million Leather saddle bags but a bike decked out in leather is not really my thing. Also, they are expensive.

So, that leads me to today. I happened to be at our local K-Mart and in the sporting goods section when I happened by this Bicycle bag designed by Bell- the same company that makes helmets. For $10.00 I picked up a great bag that velcros to my bike frame. It's made of nylon so when it gets dirty, I can simply wash it. The velcro strips are well over 2" long so I have no worries about the bag being ripped off while I'm riding.

Just like leather bags, they can easily be removed by a would-be thief but hey, I'll only be out $10.00 plug a few wrenches and screwdrivers. I also think it looks pretty good on the bike too.

Insurance Sucks!

The day I picked my bike up I called my current insurance provider, Erie Insurance to get the bike covered before I left the bike shop. The lady on the phone told me I had to come into my local agent and fill out paperwork in person. That wasn't going to happen since I was about 50 miles away and I had rented a U-Haul to pick up the bike. I asked her why we couldn't do it over fax and she said she would go to jail if she did that. I promptly to "get bent" and disconnected the call.

It seems that in Pa, it is not enough to show you have coverage, you have to prove you have the actual bike covered. So, the lady who processed my paperwork hooked me up with Rider Insurance. The guy on the phone was able to get me set up via fax (without going to jail) but he told me that they would not cover choppers or custom built bikes with comprehensive insurance. So, I paid the guy $60.00 over the phone for a month of liability coverage so I could trailer the bike home. However, since I took out a loan for a portion of the bike, I have to have comprehensive insurance.

So, after calling Allstate and Geico, I found out that getting a custom bike fully covered wasn't going to be easy. A relative of a friend told me to call Fischer Specialty Insurance to see what they could do for me. I talked to the agent and had full coverage by the end of the day. However, I found out that full insurance is not cheap. Actually, I'm $1,200 less in the pocket per year to make sure my bike is covered. Ouch! If anyone knows of a better place for a lower price feel free to send me the info.

Been hanging with Psycho Bob

As expected, I have not been paying much attention to the Stang as I've been working on getting comfortable on my bike. I've been riding it to work every day for the last week and I'm really comfortable on it now. I've learned a few things this week like, it only gets about 45 miles to the tank. I got to spend about 30 minutes along side the road thinking about that one.

On a Mustang related note, in the second week of July I'm planning on putting the stage two clutch and flywheel into the car. I love my Stang! I do!

Psycho Bob

Does everyone name their vehicles? When I was a teen my first car was a Chevy Scooter (Chevette) and in the back window there was a sticker that said, "she's only rick n' roll." So, the car affectionately became "rock n' roll." I had a 1976 Plymouth Grand Fury that became known as the "Green Iceberg" due to its large size and green paint. Those are the only two vehicles I've ever named.

To this day I have not named the Mustang. I feel a vehicle names itself and unfortunately, the Mustang has never told me what it is. I've been calling it the "Stang" so in a way, maybe I did name it. Although it's not a unique name, it is definately a Stang!

Well, the ACM bike has named itself over the last few days. My learning curve has been steep with this bad boy and it has earned the name "Psycho Bob"- short for it's given name, Psychedelic Rigid Bobber. It fits because the bike it a radical ride and today is the first day I've felt comfortable riding on it. So, Psycho Bob it is!

I lost a bet...

Well, I would have if I was in Lisa's head. I'm sure she thought, "he'll be using his Mustang blog to talk about his new bike." Well, yah, I will but I don't feel like getting a new URL so I'm going to just talk about the bike here. I doubt there will be much talk since I have no plans of doing any modifications whereas, I still have a lot to do to the Mustang.

During the first of July I'll be pulling the clutch, flywheel and transmission to upgrade to a stage 2 system. I still have a line lock kit to install and I have a nitrous kit to install. After that, I'll be holding off for a while to pay down bills. After all, I have a car and a bike to pay off right now and I'm feeling the pinch to get everything paid down as quick as possible.

Me And My Mustang...and my bike

Let me start by saying I have the best woman on the planet and it's obvious that she loves me...or she has lost a grip with reality. I posted a week or so ago about the Bobber I wanted for Father's day. Well, today I picked up said bobber and now it's in my garage.

My hat goes off to the folks at American Classic Motors and the fine work they did with this bike. It's an 88" Revtech motor with a Revtech 6 speed transmission. I spoke with the guy who built the bike for about 40 minutes and he told me that this bikes goes about 450lbs and will pull the front wheel through four gears.

Everything about this bike screams "radical" including the first trip down the back alley I took with it. Man, this thing is crazy. It's low and powerful! I'll be honest, it is going to take me several weeks to get comfortable with this machine. I'll take better pictures of it in a few days. I just cannot get good pictures in my garage.

Again, thanks a lot ACM! You build awesome bikes!

Good Timing I Guess

Pulling into the garage last night, I noticed a bit of oil on the floor. Fun stuff! So, I jack the Stang up today and crawl under it. Behold, I have a leaky seal between the transmission and the transmission extension housing for the overdrive. It's not a bad leak. I figured I better check the fluid level and before I even had the plug removed, fluid started to leak out. This means it's full so the leak just started and is minor.

The Haynes manual says it's common for this seal to go out so I don't think it's from driving the piss out of it. Also, Ford did a sloppy job with the RTV and it seems like the oil leak is from the area with RTV on it. Since, I'll be pulling the transmission so I can change out the clutch and flywheel I'll also be pulling that apart to stop the leak!

In the back of my mind, I keep thinking this is a good time to have the transmission gearing changed to better suit a supercharger and 4:10 rear gears. I guess I'll look into it more before I make that decision.

Father's Day...

The next step in the process of getting my Stang ready for the supercharger is to install a stage two clutch, aluminum flywheel and upgrade drive shaft. Well, today, my Spec stage two clutch and flywheel showed up on the door step. I have to wait a week or so until I can get the drive shaft so everything will go on at the end of June.

Hoarders

I've been accused of hoarding but not because I have a compulsion for keeping everything I own. I just happen to be lazy and never throw anything away-because, well, I'M LAZY. However, Dave is a crazy hoarder when it comes to automotive parts. He feels you should keep every part just in case they are needed in the future. Well, this last week I decided to sell off a few items I've taken off of the Mustang. I sold the stock hood and the stock rims. I didn't make a ton of money but hey, money is money right?

I'm getting ready to complete the drivetrain on the Mustang. I know what clutch and flywheel I'm going with but I'm still up in the air on the drive shaft. I really like the looks and concept behind the one that is sold by the Drive Shaft Shop but I can't find anyone who has used on. the HP range is on target but I was thinking about an aluminum one to help reduce weight. A lot of people like the one sold by Shaft Masters but it's rated a hundred HP less then the other one and it's more money. I'd be sold on the the Drive Shaft Shop if I could find a few people who have had luck with it. You don't want to mess around with a broke drive shaft. It can get real messy with the pan, exhaust and rear end. Anyone have feedback on the best late model Mustang drive shafts?

Thank you Gilboy Ford!

It's time for inspection and we all know what that means for those of us who have "tuned" their computers, changed gears and completed other emissions altering things to our cars. Needless to say, I was a bit worried that the Stang would not pass the gas cap test.

When I talked to my inspector last week to set up the appointment he said he'd do everything he could, like letting me retune back to factory settings but since they didn't do the last inspection and I don't have proof of last year's mileage I'd have to have the emissions inspection.

I promptly went home and looked through all of the sales papers I got from Gilboy's when I bought the car. Behold, the 2009 inspection paperwork was in the pile! Since I put less then 5,000 miles on the car (actual 1,700) it is emission exempt and will remain so as long as I don't put more than 5000 miles on it a year!
Installing both the cap and the tail lights took about 30 minutes. Both very easy jobs. The chrome rings I installed on the stock tail lights started to look bad already. The tape is starting to come off and I noticed a few spots where the chrome plating peeled. Have I mentioned that I despise taping things on to a car?

I took a shot of the tail lights with one old and one new. They really look nothing alike. The sequential tail lights work with these lenses which is cool.
Most people say it took a full day. Some said it took longer. I clocked in at six hours with a stop for lunch and I did the job alone - except for Lisa who held a wrench while I connected the cats to the headers. I'd say that part is just about an impossibility with just one person.

My arms look like they've been through a war but the headers are in and no leaks! I opted to use the studs because I just didn't feel like taking them out just to install weak stainless bolts. You're always better to stick with the studs IMO. What's the downfall of using the studs? Well, you can't use a ratchet to install 6 of the 12 header bolts. I had to wrench them in! It added time to the job but I feel more secure using the old hardware.

I used a lot of liquid wrench and I did not have one bolt stick on me. All in all, it's a time consuming job but not an overly difficult one. I took a few pictures to share but they are a little hard to see. I guess that just goes to prove that there isn't much room in there!

Here is what I took off. They are still in great shape. If anyone needs a set of replacements just drop me an E-Mail.

Here is the driver's side header (or what you can see of it. ) I was a bit nervous about the EGR tube but it came out very easily. I did soak it in liquid wrench for a while. Some people said the tube was a pain to get loose.

Here is a picture of the passenger side header. It's a bit easier to see.
I've got something in the mail right now that I'm pretty excited about. They should be here tomorrow. I'll be installing it as soon as it gets here and I'll post a few pictures.

Ground Pounder

I guess installing my headers is not going to work out today. Since I've been sitting around I threw this together.

BBK 70mm throttle body

I installed the BB 70mm throttle body on my Mustang today. It went on very easily and mated up nicely with the K&N high flow cold air intake I use. The gear motor was easy to install onto the new throttle body. I have a tune for it but I won't install it until I get the headers and high flow cats installed tomorrow. I did run the car around the block. I noticed a little bit more throat in the exhaust but nothing noticeable in throttle response.

I've seen a lot of people say a bigger throttle body doesn't help but you have to tune for it. The computer doesn't know what to do with the extra air so you get nothing out of the mod. However, if you tell the computer what to do with it and you'll see the difference.

We'll see. The cats and headers go on tomorrow and then I'll toss the new tune on. Hopefully that opens everything up a little.
Not much different then any other picture of it on the net.
