Pipit, a local art and design community is going to celeberate it 3rd anniversary soon. In conjunction with its 3rd anniversary, the moderator of Pipit forum is organizing a design competition.

I manage to squeeze some free time out to participate in this competition too. At first, I was thinking to develop some simple Flash game for this. But after playing through the prototype I developed, I find the game was not really as fun as I thought, and its need more time to polish and refine.

Urban-Cr3atures is organizing Beautiful Junk again soon and it will be showing the BOXIES project this year. This is a collaboration project where participant design their own character on a papermodel template prepare by Urban-Cr3atures. All these characters will get into exhibition and showcases in the future, and possibly published into a book as well.

This is not the first time I joined Beautiful Junk, as I submited 2 wallpapers design for Beautiful Junk 2007. So far, I had submitted 2 characters design for this project but I am thinking to do another one if time allows. I can’t wait to see my design being craft into a papermodel, so I went to the printing shop and have them print out. Surprisingly, the colors still look good even I designed them in RGB mode.

Because I am using a thick paper, so it is better to make a folding line before crafting them. I am using a scissors but a better option will be a ballpoint pen.

To stick them together, I use a thin double sided tape instead of glue. Because if you are not careful, glue will dissolve the color.

If I am doing another design, I am thinking to give the character a pet dog or cat. The pet template will be base on my paper model bunny template.

Kementerian Penerangan, Komunikasi dan Kebudayaan (KPKK) is organizing the “Laman Budaya Rakyat” event near Dataran Merdeka on Oct 24 and 31 and Nov 7 and 14. I had the chance to attend this event last Saturday.

Laman Budaya Rakyat KL was aimed at giving tourists the chance to experience the Malaysian culture and allow local artistes to showcase their work.

There weren’t that much peoples when I reached there around 4.30pm. So, I went to snap a few photos around Dataran Merdeka before visiting each of the event booth.

I managed to “sneak” into Sultan Abdul Samad Building as well and took some photos. Was quite surprised to see that there are quite a lot of paintings on the hallway of the building.

Microsoft Window XP Advertisement on DBKL building?!

Finally I had the opportunity to visit Melaka again after so many years. I remember the last time I came here was during my primary school with friends. This time, I am coming here with family.

Malacca dubbed The Historical State or Negeri Bersejarah amongst locals is located in the southern region of the Malay Peninsula, on the Straits of Malacca. This historical city centre has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 7 July 2008. – wiki

We start my one day trip early in the morning and reached Melaka before afternoon. After meeting up with relative that came from Muar, we walked around Jonker Street, and had our lunch at one of the chicken rice restaurant. Chicken rice in Melaka is slightly different as the rice is served in a ball shape. Imagine a fish ball, but rice.

The restaurant was quite packed and peoples were queuing up the whole street just to eat this chicken rice ball. At first, I thought it must be damn good that why peoples is willing to wait for this long queue. But I am wrong, the chicken rice sold near my house taste a lot better. The only thing I found interesting is just the shop decorations, and the wall photos of well known artist that came to eat here.

There is a koi pond inside this restaurant as well.

The hole in the roof is known as "天井" which literally translated to "sky well". It is usually found in old Chinese building. Even the linked house where I am living now had this as well, until my parent decide to seal it off.

After lunch, we walked to the Red Square which is just nearby. This place is more crowded as most of the famous tourist spot for Melaka such as A Famosa, St Paul Church is located around here. I find it quite weird because there is a modern shopping complex not far away as well. I thought people came to Melaka because of its historical and heritage thing. What even more weird for me is all these tricycle were blasting disco music loudly. Most of them also pay tribute to Michael Jackson by playing “Beat It”.

The most interesting stuff during this trip wasn’t related with Melaka at all. It was about my brother’s friend. My brother were walking around and met his female friend. She came to say hi but my brother seems can’t remember who is she. So, she explained that she is Eddy’s girl friend. Then the guy beside her say “Hey I am not Eddy, why you tell him??!!”

Last week, I visited the Galeri Perfileman Finas near Jalan Pahang to do some research as I was involved in a classic Malay films multimedia project. This was not my first time here, as I had visit this place few months ago for the same project.

Galeri Perfileman Finas is a unique film gallery traces the development of the local film industry starting from the 1930s to the present day.

Galeri Perfileman Finas is located at Jalan Pajang Kecil, Off Jalan Pahang, Kuala Lumpur.

Beside exhibiting all these vintage filming tools and magazines, Galeri Perfileman Finas also provide other services such as a small library and mini theatre for the visitors.

I noticed they changed some of the decorations too. Few months ago, most of the decorations were base on the classic horror film such as “Pontianak” and “Orang minyak”. Now it seems base on the theme “epic tales”, “heroes”.

Yesterday was the launch date for “Blog For FT“, a blogging campaign which encourage the public to blog positively about the Federal Territories in Malaysia. I guess I could contribute to this campaign as well because I am living in FT.

Since the campaign rules said that we could blog anything about FT as long as it is positive, I will just write anything that I could think of FT right now. Before moving further, let me explain what is FT, Federal Territories.

What is Federal Territories?

According to Wikipedia, Federal Territory or better known as Wilayah Persekutuan is a collective of three territories consist of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan. Putrajaya being the “youngest” FT as it is only made to a Federal Territory during 2001. All these three territories is governed directly by the federal government of Malaysia.

My Life in Kuala Lumpur

Although I was born in a town known as Seremban many years ago, but I had live in Kuala Lumpur since young. There are more loves from me to KL comparing to my hometown as I spend most of my time here.

During my school life, I had my tuition class at a famous tuition centre in KL which is named after a local hero. This tuition centre is so famous here because of their insider’s tips on SPM and PMR. Apparently, their tips work really great and I have a quite good results for both SPM and PMR. And lets not forget that me and my friends also enjoy looking at pretty girls from other schools during the tuition class. I guess kids from other state is not so lucky.

After getting my SPM result, I was prompt with an option to enroll in a University which is not in KL. But I decide to stay in KL and further my studies in a so call “leading” IT college here. Too bad, the “leading” IT College is just like any other college. Some lecturers are good, some are just pure crap.

It had been 5 years since I started working. Over the years, there were numerous opportunities for me to leave KL and work in other places such as Singapore, Austriali and London. But every time each of this opportunity came up, I will make the same decision to stay and work in KL. I guess I love to stay in KL so much by rejecting those great offers.

Time passed, everything and everyone in KL changed rapidly. There were no KLCC and KL Tower back then. There were no LRT and Monorail too. All the bus were not air condition either. There is no more pink color mini bus on the street now. The blind couples that used to sing in front of McD in KL is not there anymore. The peoples that sell portrait painting near the back entrance of Central Market is replace by a huge art gallery now. Everything had change and improve.

I guess the only thing that haven’t change much is the bus service for me to get home. Don’t get me wrong, the overall public transport services in KL had improve over the years. But sometime I still need to spend 2 hours for a 20 minutes trips. Thanks to lazy drivers or maybe bad time table management by the bus service provider.

Of course this will not be my last and only entry for “Blog For FT” campaign, as I still have many FT stories to be share. Basically, this entry is just my random thought to keep the ball rolling. So, bookmark and stay tuned for my better Blog For FT entry later.

DMAOM (Dollhouse & Miniature Association of Malaysia) is organizing their 2nd exhibition at the Annexe Gallery this weekend. In this exhibition, they will be showing their work on miniature “Pasar Malam” scene (night market) and they will be giving a short tutorial on miniature crafting, so I went there to snap some photos.

What is Dollhouse and Miniature Crafting?

Dollhouse and miniature crafting is a hobby where you craft a mini size version of any items from art materials such as clay, or any recycled materials. In a way, this is similar with building the battleground for Warhammer or Gundam but more to making a mini version of everyday items.

There is a TV show from Astro that came to interview DMAOM as well and many peoples were taking photo during the interview session. That made the producer quite mad as their camera flash light is disturbing the recording process. Oh look, I took a photo during the interview session too, but without any flash light.

“Art For Grabs” creative bazaar is back again at the Annexe Gallery with a “Raya” theme. So I went over there to have a look and snap some photos. This is not the first time I attend such event as “Art For Grabs” had been going on for a while now. Beside that, DMAOM (Dollhouse & Miniature Association of Malaysia) 2nd exhibition is also being held at the same location but I will blog about it in a different post.
