The kite has been a total success and gone down really well with customers. So much so that light wind kiting has become big news. Course racing is also very interested in the Speed 3. With all this in mind – a year after the initial launch of the Speed 3, Flysurfer have released a new size – 21m. This is not simply a scaled up model of the other kites or a 19m with a few extra panels thrown in. It is a totally redesigned and tested kite. The kites will be arriving in the UK in early September and will retail at £2200.

This video shows Armin Harich – Flysurfer’s head of design, testing his first production kite.

As usual we will have the MBS Pro Ramp there doing mountainboard demonstrations. This is where our mountainboard Pro Team perform jumps and tricks on our custom built ramp over a Landrover. Alongside that we will be running a mountainboard Have a Go. This gives members of the public a chance to experience mountainboarding in the capable hands of qualified instructors. We provide all the equipment required.

We will also be there with Quantya. We will have a miniature QuantyaparX set up in order to mimic the experience. There will be the opportunity to test ride a bikes round the small track we have set up. Quantya UK staff will be on hand to answer any questions regarding the bikes and also setting up a Quantya Park Franchise.

The CLA Game Fair 2010 will be at Ragley Hall, Warwickshire on the 23rd-25th July.

The sheer amount of bridling can be a little bit daunting. The truth is that it is a lot more simply than you might imagine. The key for having more fun and less of the dreaded birds nest line situation is to have good packing technique. In this video Flysurfer team rider Gunnar Biniasch demonstrates how he packs down his flysurfer kites to avoid any tangling issues.

For 2010, we kept their outstanding performance, but eliminated the spray and improved the riding comfort. Lots of research and testing time was needed to get those right. The biggest changes occurred to the Large FlyRadical which was made more flexible and given more rocker. The XL Flyradical is a new addition to the range.

Flex/Scoop-Rocker:
We have developed and use a board flex measurement machine, this machine is used to measure the 3D-Shape in every important riding situation. One of the key points was to increase the flex outside of the feet and to add comfort and control in choppy and gusty conditions without losing the underpowered performance and pop. The Scoop-Rocker line of the FlyRadical is self adjusting from under- to overpowered conditions in parts of a second.

Asymmetric Shape:
The 2010 FlyRadical have tips that are a bit less wide and have an even more asymmetric shape. Tips that are a bit less wide, combined with more flex increase the control in overpowered conditions a lot. The wide center part of the FlyRadica increase the surface area to not sink down in lulls or after landing your newest wakestyle trick. The flat and constant scoop-rocker line increases speed and upwind performance. The heelside outline is more straight for massive pop and maximum upwind performance. The toeside outline got more rounded to achieve improved control riding switch and makes the riding feeling of the FlyRadical more natural.

The Construction:
The core of the FlyRadical is made out of light, but super durable Paulownia wood. Since we integrated this core material in the FLYBOARDS, broken boards have been a thing of the past. The inserts are double reinforced and riding with wakeboard binding is also possible. Thin ABS rails and tips made out of polyethylene are used to protect the sidewalls and to increase the flex in the tips. We use a 3 Dimensional construction, to be able to add the flex to the sides of the tips instead of only the whole tip. Weights of the 2010 FlyRadical could also be slightly reduced, giving you an even more enjoyable session on and off the water! The grab rail on the toeside rail remains in the 2010 FlyRadical, making your board-off tricks even easier. The number of different screws to assemble the FlyRadical is reduced, assembling a board is now super easy.

The toeside where you can edge less hard has a smoother outline. That enables you to land and ride switched easier and increases control. The heelside is straighter to give you the best upwind performance and pop. The thin flexible tips that are made out of PE, are working like shock absorbers in choppy water and overpowered conditions. The 3.5mm single concave is giving the board more grip and stability. The concave is smoothly running out towards flat in the tips, so the board doesn’t lose its playful character.

There are 3 different stance options. The Small stance inserts are also placed more towards the heelside rail so it’s easier to edge the board for smaller riders. Top sheets with silkscreen printing inside prevent the graphics from being scratched off by sand, shells and rocks. We use 3D computer analyses for the flex pattern of the board. Together with a ‘flex under load’ machine we are able to create an optimum flex pattern. All FlyRadical Boards have a full wood core for a stronger construction. Vibrations are better absorbed and due to our new construction, the weight has been reduced.

Loads of testing and brainstorming on the actual layup and component choices then hours of pouring over graphic ideas. The graphics were done by Dan Wilson, from Remolition and Decreate. Based on some of Tom’s sketches, and then with Dan’s artistic flair, and comments from the MBS crew. We decided to release our other secret project, the Matrix Pro, to go with the board too – making this board a big step up from last year.

Tom Kirkman is an amazing rider and has been with us for a long time. He is often found at the office helping out in the busier months when we have containers and the likes to deal with. We are really happy he finally has a board with his signature on it.

The review was really positive and solidified the kites position as the ultimate light wind kite. The article summary reads as follows:

The design and look of this kite might place it outside of the mainstream buyers’ comfort zone, which is a shame, because if you’ve got money for a dedicated light wind freeride kite, you can’t go wrong with one of these as an average kiter. If you want an all-round kite for snow, land and water this is the ticket. It’s so stable, you can’t luff it on your jumps and leave it behind you and, given the choice of a 15 metre LEI or this in light winds, we’d choose this. You’ve got to get your head around it, but it’ll soak up crappy winds in whichever kite sport you choose to do beautifully, leaving others looking up at you.

For 2010 we were able to further increase their light wind potential, but eliminated the spray and improved the riding comfort by adding a bit more flex and rocker to the FlyDoor M, L and XL. The tips of the FlyDoor M and L have become a bit narrower and square, which gives the boards more control in choppy conditions and improves their pop for wakestyle tricks. The Flydoor XL is further refined with an optimized scoop-rocker line and is, just as the other FlyDoors, trimmed down in weight.

The scoop-rocker line is self adjusting from under- to overpowered conditions in parts of a second.

Asymmetric Shape:
The 2010 FlyDoor M,L and XL have tips that are a bit less wide and have an even more asymmetric shape. Tips that are a bit less wide, combined with more flex increase the control in overpowered conditions a lot. The wide center part of the FlyDoor M,L and XL increase the surface area to not sink down in lulls or after landing your latest trick. The flat and constant scoop-rocker line increases speed and upwind performance. The heelside outline is more straight for massive pop and maximum upwind performance. The toeside outline got more rounded to achieve improved control riding switch and makes the riding feeling of the FlyDoor more playful.

The Construction:
The combined composite core of the FlyDoor M, L and XL is made out of airex, combined with 2 strips of light, but super durable Paulownia wood. Since we integrated this combined core material in the FLYBOARDS, broken boards have been a thing of the past. The inserts are double reinforced. Thin ABS rails and tips made out of polyethylene are used to protect the sidewalls and to increase the flex in the tips. We use a 3 Dimensional construction, to be able to add the flex to the sides of the tips instead of only the whole tip. Weights of the 2010 FlyDoor M, L and XL could also be slightly reduced, giving you an even more enjoyable session on and off the water! The grab rail on the toeside rail remains in the 2010 FlyDoor, making your board-off tricks even easier. The number of different screws to assemble the FlyDoor is reduced, assembling a board is now super easy.

The 4.5mm single concave is giving the board more grip and stability. The concave is smoothly running out towards flat in the tips, so the board doesn’t lose its playful character.

3 different stance options: Small stance, Normal stance and Wide stance. The Small stance inserts are also placed more towards the heelside rail so it’s easier to edge the board for smaller riders

Top sheets with silkscreen printing inside prevent the graphics from being scratched off by sand, shells and rocks.

We use 3D computer analyses for the flex pattern of the board. Together with a ‘flex under load’ machine we are able to create an optimum flex pattern. All FlyDoors have a combined composite core. The wood core stripes increase the breaking strength and vibration absorption. The 2nd wood core stripe is placed below the heels, as otherwise the foam would get compressed and can create a weak point.

The Flywave S is an all new addition for the 2010 FLYBOARDS range. Designed in association with Dutch wave-guru Ruud Overwater, who has put over 6 years of wave riding experience into this board. The FlyWave S is a mutant style board for the rider who wants to ride the waves powered with a board that has a surfy feeling, but still wants to keep the advantages of a twintip (it is very easy to ride). The FlyWave S works really well in choppy and short waves (big or small), when traditional surfboards are very uncomfortable. Flip nose and -tail are integrated in the FlyWave S, creating a board that is very resistant to spray and is not prone to dive into a wave. The Flywave has a 6cm tri-fin setup on the tail and two smaller fins at the nose, this way the board can still be ridden in both directions. The full wood core gives the FlyWave S extreme durability, kiteloops can now be performed without worries!

Flex/Scoop-Rocker:
We have developed and use a board flex measurement machine. This machine is used to measure the 3D-Shape in every important riding situation. One of the key points was to increase the flex outside of the feet and to add comfort and control in choppy and gusty conditions without losing the underpowered performance. The Scoop-Rocker line of the FlyWave is self adjusting from under- to overpowered conditions in a split second.

Mutant Shape:
With a pronounced riding feeling towards one side, due to the outline combined with the tri-fin setup the Flywave S gives superb grip in the waves. But still can be ridden in each direction, no jibing necessary! The flat bottom creates a board that is fast and easy to ride, while the Flip nose and tail give the Flywave S comfort and control in waves and choppy conditions.

The Construction:
The core of the Flywave S is made out of light, but super durable Paulownia wood. Since we integrated this core material in the FLYBOARDS, broken boards have been a thing of the past. The inserts are double reinforced. Thin ABS rails and tips made out of polyethylene are used to protect the sidewalls and to increase the flex in the tips. We use a 3 Dimensional construction, to be able to add the flex to the sides of the tips instead of only the whole tip. The weight of the FlyWave S will surprise you, it weighs almost the same as a FlyRadical M, giving you an even more enjoyable session on and off the water!

With 18 inserts your optimum stance can always be created, whether it will be goofy, regular, straight or wide stance.

Top sheets with silkscreen printing inside prevent the graphics from being scratched off by sand, shells and rocks.

We use 3D computer analyses for the flex pattern of the board. Together with a ‘flex under load’ machine we are able to create an optimum flex pattern.

The FlyWave S has a full wood core for a stronger construction. Vibrations are better absorbed and due to our new construction, the weight has been reduced.
