I have some exciting news for you.

I have some exciting news for you.

It is very time limited, however, so you'll have to act fast if you want to take advantage of it.

The news is that one of the UK's leading marketing experts, a really sharp guy by the name of Chris Cardell, is running his successful Entrepreneur Summit again this June.

I don't know Chris personally but I did meet him once at a Dan Kennedy seminar we were both attending in the US. I found him to be approachable and very knowledgeable.

Also, when I was just starting out with online marketing I signed up for a training course Chris was running on Google Adwords, which far exceeded my expectations. From personal experience I can tell you that he delivers quality information and support and is one of the 'good guys'.

Those of you paying attention will also have noticed that last week Chris did a teleseminar with Perry Marshall, the Adwords and marketing expert. Guys like Perry don't associate themselves with any Tom, Dick or Harry who comes along, so this alone should tell you something about Chris Cardell and his reputation within the marketing community.

Anyway, enough about Chris, let's talk about his seminar. Better still go check out the details by clicking the link below then come back for some extra input and news of how I will make this even better for you:

Entrepreneur Summit

Here's my take on this:

This is a solid line up. Chris's 5 themes are relevant and targeted and I have no doubt at all he can deliver on what he promises here.

As for the speakers, they are worth listening to.

I've seen Bill Glazer at his seminars and he always provides fantastic information. Be prepared to take copious notes listening to him.

I really enjoyed Sahar Hashemi's book on starting up Coffee Republic and I'm sure she'll give an enjoyable and informative presentation.

I can't actually remember Doug Richard from Dragons' Den but if you can't learn something from someone as experienced as him then you probably need shooting.

Barry Shamis is new to me but if Chris Cardell rates him highly that's all I need to know.

Ari Galper has a very good reputation in online marketing circles. Working on your conversion rate is not as sexy as getting more traffic but is absolutely vital if you're going to succeed online.

The more observant amongst you will have noticed that there is a hefty 'early bird' discount if you sign up before 28th April. If you an Entrepreneur or business owner and you can see the benefit of attending then of course it makes sense to get in before this date.

You may also have noticed that the link I sent you too was an affiliate link.

Yes, I do have something to gain by recommending this seminar to you (a commission). I am, however, proud to recommend Chris's Summit to you regardless. You can always sign up through the normal site and cut me out if you prefer.

As I mentioned in my last post, though, I'm big on adding extra value. What this means for you is that I'm going to sweeten the deal even more to make attending Chris's seminar even more of a no-brainer.

If you decide that you'd like to go to the Summit and you book your place through my link you'll get an extra special bonus from me.

I'm currently deciding on what I'm going to include. I may even give you a choice of bonuses so you can pick the one most suited to you.

If you are a UK property investor one of the choices will be targeted specifically for you…

I'll update you with the details next week.

For now just go and read through the information about the Entrepreneur's Summit again and think about it over the weekend. If you decide to book your place now just be sure to let me know so I can make sure you get your bonus.

Here's the link again:

Wow! I missed March!
Apologies for my absence - I've been super busy this last month. (...)

Wow! I missed March!

Apologies for my absence - I've been super busy this last month.

Anyway, I have some cool stuff to tell you about over the next couple of weeks but first I'd like to share a tip with you.

When times get tough or when a market is particularly competitive most businesses will respond by cutting their prices as much as they can.

This is actually really dumb.

In most cases price is rarely the main factor in a customer's decision to buy. It may be a factor, but it's usually not the main one. People have their own reasons for buying. If price truly is the only important factor in your industry then you should be very worried - even if you're cheapest today your business is very vulnerable.

What happens if a competitor comes along and finds a way to offer what you're offering a fraction cheaper? What if they have deeper pockets than you and they're prepared to take a loss for a while in order to drive you out of business?

It's a bad position to be in.

Instead of looking to cut your prices you should be looking at ways you can add value to make your offer seem an absolute bargain, even if your price is higher than that of your competitors.

Could you include a bonus of some sort to build value? Provide a much higher level of customer support? Offer a valuable secondary product or service to sweeten the deal?

Low prices can actually be a turn off for some kind of customers - a higher price suggests higher quality and can be reassuring. Also if you charge a higher price you have more of a margin to work with in order provide that extra level of service or whatever you're offering.

You get the opportunity to really wow your customers so they talk about you to their friends and don't even think about going anywhere else.

How can you add extra value to your customers and the people you deal with?

Best wishes,

Matt

P.S. - I have some very valuable recommendations to share with you shortly, so when you hear from me next you should take a couple of minutes to check out what I have to say. I'll also personally be adding extra value to make things even better for you!

If you go on a blind date and ten minutes in your prospective sweetheart starts planning when you're moving in together, getting married and having kids, would you be put off by this? (...)

If you go on a blind date and ten minutes in your prospective sweetheart starts planning when you're moving in together, getting married and having kids, would you be put off by this?

Of course you would!

You don't make a big commitment to somebody before you really get to know them.

If they start getting ahead of what you're comfortable with, you automatically start to back off. If they persist you start scanning the room for the nearest available exit, or excuse yourself and head to the bathroom, hoping there's a window there to squeeze through.

The same principle applies when it comes to sales and marketing.

If you come across a pushy salesman or website, you start to resist and the chances of you getting out your credit card are drastically reduced.

For this reason it's always good to start slow and build things up gradually.

If you have a product you'd like to sell online it may not be the best idea to go straight for the sale. Instead you might offer something for free in return for the visitor's name and email address. You then get the chance to follow up over the course of a few days and build a relationship.

Sometimes even asking for a name and email address is too much. The first step might be asking for a zip code (postcode) or even just a click of the mouse.

In some cases it is okay to go for the sale straight away. Generally you will still need to build a level of trust by telling people about who you are and what you are offering. You'll likely be looking at long copy as the means to deliver this information.

If you seem credible and the product is of interest then you have a good chance of making a sale. This is especially true if the price of the product is low, or at least is deemed to be low in relation to its perceived value. A $5 purchase is an easier decision for a buyer than a $50 or $500 purchase.

There's less risk.

Whatever you are marketing you need to be aware that whenever you ask somebody to do something, whether that's click a link, enter an email address or buy something from you, then there's always going to be some level of resistance to that.

Your job is to do two things:

1. Set the bar low so it's an easy decision to make.

2. Make sure you communicate enough value and benefits so that 1. applies.

The prospect should have a smooth journey through your marketing process. Every time you ask them to do something it should be an easy decision for them.

By creating real value and taking it slowly you seduce them into becoming customers.

There are times when it's best to set the bar high, so only a select few will take the trouble to get over it.

One example is when you're trying to attract top quality clients for your high-end product or coaching program.

Another would be when you're on that date looking for somebody special to spend your life with.

Life is short - don't settle for second best. You are worth so much more.

Best wishes,

Matt

P.S. - I'm still editing that free gift I've been telling you about. Email subscribers will have it soon.

I've done a few website critiques recently and one of the things that has struck me is the images being used.

They were mostly the standard kind of professional, corporate looking pictures that you find on thousands and thousands of sites across the web. Sure, they look all neat and polished but they bring virtually nothing to the site.

You know the kind I mean - people in suits smiling, people shaking hands, smart looking banners with pictures of computers on.

It's all very bland.

Because they are so generic and meaningless they just don't register. They have zero impact - they just wash over you.

They become invisible. Your site becomes invisible.

If you are relying on standard images like this then you are effectively saying that your site is just like all the others out there. It's the same when you design a glossy ad or leaflet that looks just like everybody else's.

You are saying that you are not unique, that you have nothing different to offer.

You fade into the background.

It's for this reason that ugly looking sites and ads often out-perform slick, corporate looking ones. They grab attention because they stand out from everything else. They also seem more personal.

If you want to be invisible, just do the same as everybody else.

If you want to be noticed, do something different.

Best wishes,

Matt

P.S. - I'll shortly be offering paid website critiques as a service on this site. If you want to be one of the first to have me review your site and to secure a spot at a reduced rate please email me or leave a comment to find out more.

P.P.S. - UK Property Investors (I know I have more than a few of you reading this) - I'm seriously considering releasing my marketing notes on the industry, including some advanced tactics and strategies that NOBODY else is currently using. If I do, places will be limited and it won't be cheap.

This will suit intermediate to advanced investors and possibly ambitious beginners. It may NOT be suitable for you, which is nothing to be ashamed about. If you want to find out more please email me or leave a comment on the blog (I can keep them private if you prefer).
