I’ve had quite a few emails and some messages left regarding how to remove this pop up over the last few days.

On five separate PCs, all I had to do was click the OK button on the first screen, then close the second screen, don’t just close the first screen with the Information Regarding Web Browsers title.

I would definitely advise trying the above first, however if this doesn’t work for you I have another solution, BUT I must state I offer no guarantee that this will work and that it won’t kill your PC.

In other words, if you do it and it messes up your PC/windows don’t come looking to me!

The solution is to go into your windows installation, usually c:/windows, then the system32 folder, C:\WINDOWS\system32, and look for a program called browserchoice.

Delete this program and you should not see anymore pop ups.

One thing to note with this method is you will need to remove this from windows update, otherwise it will be reinstalled it the next time you update windows.

Let me know if this works for you or if you have a better solution.

The first thing to note is that this IS from Microsoft and not spam or a virus, I don’t think the Information Regarding Web Browsers window makes its self entirely clear where it has come from.

The window you are likely to see.

This has come about from the European Commission ruling that Microsoft has to give people choice of which browser they use.

I wont go into that, if you are interested a quick google search will tell you all you need.

I was a little bored last night so decided to browse the Apple app store on my iPhone and found Angry Birds as the top paid app.

It has a pretty good score so I decided to give it a go.

A few hours later it was wayyyy past my bed time but I wasn’t bored anymore.

Angry Birds has a very simple story, some pig like creatures have stolen the birds eggs and unsurprisingly they want them back.
Take a look at the video for the ‘full’ story.

Story aside, the game play is also pretty simple.
Using the touch screen, select the angle and power for your bird which is sat in a large catapult and release to fire.

The aim is to hit all the pigs to complete the level.

The said pigs are often in a variety of defenses made from structures like wood, stone, glass and rubber ducks.

To aid your endeavors you are provided with different types of bird with different abilities such as splitting into 3 mid air, speeding up or exploding.

These little touches make a simple game a lot of fun to play and add to the lifespan.

After every level you are given a score and rating out of 3 stars. This gives you something to do after completing all 100+ levels by trying to get the full star quota on the ones you missed.

The graphics are good in a cartoony way and the sounds fairly amusing though a little repetitive.

All in this is a great little game and my favorite on the iPhone for quite some time.

The best part is it’s only 59P (99¢) so my advise for all you iPhone users is to give it a go.

Social media, we all love it and it seems like it’s here to stay for now.
As it grows and we become more comfortable with it ,the more we share.
BUT how much do you share and is it too much?

A new site pleaserobme is showing how you could be sharing too much and offering to let people ‘please rob me’.

Using twitter and specifically foursquare you can share your exact location at anytime.

Are you at the shops, at a game, watching a movie, perhaps on holiday?

What this is telling people is that you are not at home!

Now personally I think it maybe quite a stretch for someone to find you on twitter, find your home address, live with in a thousand miles and want to rob you at the same time but you never know.

What it does show is how much we have assimilated social media and how much we are willing to share.

It would be a lot easier for a potential wrong doer to find your name, address, date of birth, email address and maybe your full CV and use those details to commit fraud, whether you are home or not and without ever going anywhere near your house.

Don’t be afraid to embrace social media and share, just think twice about what you are sharing.

It’s a really easy to use piece of javascript that allows you to make a slide-show of your photos that can fade, scroll, wipe, zoom into each other and a whole lot more.

It really only needs fairly basic coding skills, if you are comfortable with html and at least have an idea of what javascript is and how to link it you should be fine.

If you don’t I suggest taking a look here http://www.w3schools.com as a great place to start.

Will link to my full version once it’s finished and a few images have been uploaded.

To get the plugin and see it working take a look here - jQuery Cycle Plugin

Camera PC jacks are the bane of many a photographer.

Why? Because they go wrong. OK most things go wrong, but these little beauties do so due to their design not allowing a decent connection and therefore cable to be produced.

This wouldn’t be so much of a problem of they were cheap to replace, but with a Nikon brand cable starting around £35 they are an expensive necessity.

David Hobby @Strobist had a good and simple idea, swap them for 3.5mm(1/8″) headphone jacks.

OK I’m not sure if it was his idea entirely but he’s definitely onto a winner.

3.5mm jack cables are a little more reliable, maybe not massively so, but with them available from £1 each on eBay the worry starts to go away, simply buy spares.

David has put the challenge to manufacturers that he will actively promote their product on his site, http://strobist.blogspot.com if they produce a hot shoe flash in 2010 that includes a 3.5mm jack.

So if you happen to be a camera or flash manufacturer (Nikon I’m looking at you) got yourself over there and get it made!

Take a look at Davids’ article at this link It’s Time for the PC Jack to Die.

With my Windows 7 RC running out in the near future I decided to switch to a retail copy and start the process of reinstalling everything. One of the first things to get setup was of course firefox and with it firebug.

For those of you who don’t know firebug, it is a web development tool that allows you to inspect HTML and modify style and layout in real-time. This superb tool allows you to see the effect of any changes you make to a website on the fly without making actual modifications to the code. You can also debug and profile javascript and pause execution at any time. As with most of the best bit of software it works really smoothly, is incredibly powerful and saves us hours of development time.

For you web designers out there who don’t use firebug, get it now!

There is also chromebug to integrate with Google’s browser should that be your choice. For you IE users there is some sort of version that can be used by adding code to your site, not tried it but it looks like it’s a PITA. Just use firefox, it’s simply better.
