RETROGRESSION OF PLANETS

GENERAL FACTS

Retrogression of planets are the apparent backward movement of planets.

The Sun and the Moon are never retrograde while the snake planets, Rahu and Ketu are always retrograde.

The other 5 planets will be in retrogression from time to time.

In a horoscope, retrograde planets [usually represented with an (R)] are generally considered to be powerful - even when they are in inimical bhavas or in debilitation.

TRANSITS

Saturn has just turned direct again at Leo about a day ago. It was in retrogression for about 4 1/2 months or so (from 1 January 2009).

Mercury has been retrograde at Taurus since 8 May 2009 and will remain so until 25 May 2009 when it will move back into Aries in retrograde motion.

On 16 June 2009, Jupiter turns retrograde at Aquarius.

THE PLANET - JUPITER

GENERAL FACTS

Jupiter (or Guru) is known as as the giant of the solar system and it has a diameter of 88,000 miles.

The planet takes about 12 years or so to go once around the zodiac.

Jupiter lords over the zodiac signs Sagittarius and Pisces. It gets exalted at Cancer and debilitated at Capricorn.

Jupiter in the horoscope signifies, inter alia, wealth and happiness. In a woman's horoscope, it should also be read as the significator of her husband and in a man's horoscope, it is a significator of progeny.

TRANSITS

Jupiter has just moved from its sign of debilitation (that is, Capricorn) into Aquarius on 1 May 2009. It will turn retrograde at Aquarius however on 16 June 2009.

Jupiter transiting the ninth house (from Moon sign) is the most auspicious transit. This transit will be so for individuals with Gemini (or Mithunam) as their Moon sign.

The auspicious effects may however be short-lived due to the retrogression of Jupiter in just about another 45 days.

THE ZODIAC SIGN - LEO

GENERAL FACTS

Leo or Simmam is a quadruped sign and is white in complexion. It has a large physique and is strong during the daytime.

The Sun lords over the sign Leo.

No planets are exalted or debilitated at Leo.

TRANSITS

Currently, Saturn is transiting the zodiac sign Leo and is in retrogression. It will turn direct again at Leo on 17 May 2009.

Saturn will leave Leo and move into Virgo on 9 September 2009.

In the meantime, the Sun will move into Leo - his own bhava - on 16 August 2009 and will be in conjunction with Saturn for 22 days or so.

Taurus or Vrishabam is a quadruped sign and is white in complexion. It has a long body and is of strength in the night.

Taurus represents villages and businessmen.

Venus lords over the sign Taurus.

Both the Moon and Rahu get exalted at Taurus. Ketu is debilitated at Taurus.

CURRENT TRANSITS

Mercury will move into Taurus from Aries in another 12 days while the Moon will transit Taurus (where it gets exalted) in another 16 days.

Planet Mercury

The Sun gets exalted at Aries and debilitated at Libra while Saturn gets exalted at Libra and debilitated at Aries.

Venus gets exalted at Pisces and debilitated at Virgo while Mercury gets exalted at Virgo and debilitated at Pisces.

Mars gets exalted at Capricorn and debilitated at Cancer while Jupiter gets exalted at Cancer and debilitated at Capricorn.

The Moon gets exalted at Taurus and debilitated at Scorpio while Ketu gets exalted at Scorpio and debilitated at Taurus.

Like the Moon, Rahu gets exalted at Taurus and debilitated at Scorpio.
