Digital Music Revolution 2009 update

ok this one is a little update on the Digital Music Revolution that we are all living in.

Last important thing first.

The Beatles are available in RockBand. Way to go to connect the old ones with the now almost gone video game revolution and the young dudes with those timeless classics. But on the other hand the new remastered CD collection (that apparently sound better that the original recording) is not available to download (legally). Just be patient guys.

Opening as the iTunes Music Store on April 28, 2003, it is now the number-one music vendor in the United States.

Soundcloud makes me happy. As you have seen I have put parts of my September mix available to you to stream and download. Thanks to this beautiful and functional web site that have contacted me last spring when I was in Berlin to offered me a job.

tough one!

As a DJ and party organizer I have two main goal: -bringing the best audio quality to the sound system and being available to the crowd to make the best party.

The second part is ME, only myself can motivated (not to say kick/spank my butt) I to be up to the expectation of the audience and the organizer. Meditation, working out, stop smoking and controlling what I eat and drink is just the basic things to do and not that complicated.

On the the other side, the first part that is "bringing the best audio quality to the sound system" can be done buy (A) using the best equipment and software available and also that I can buy. And (B) by having the best audio format that the artist, performer, producer, record label, Online distributer can give me.

I remember my friend and used to be master Maitre Pierre who is a god sound guy and a fabulous disco dj telling around Y2K that the new e-DJ kind of sucks because they don't buy any freaking tracks. Maybe because he use to buy all his LP record one by one and he have one of biggest disco LP collection and also that 5+ years ago we didn't have much space to digitalize everything on MP3. But nowadays it's totally different.

Ok mixing tracks with a record table will give you an incredible sound with lots of pumping bass. Mixing original CDs on a CDJ can give you more flexibility to create loops, cue point, beat shifting in the same key and all that jazz. But the problem start when the e-kid generation try to plug their laptop in a club and play their brother's MP3 collection.

I have nothing against young kids playing fast groovy beats with a laptop. The problem is when they don't care too much about the quality of what they are playing seams, for me, like an offend to the creator of the tracks and to their precious fans.

Some online music store who are proud to be better than the physical one don't really give you any choices in the quality of the files that you can buy. Ok it's not 128kpbs any more but try to buy them at 320kps (that is close to the WAV file). Some specialize online store will give you the choice to get which type of file is best for you to buy at the same price. 196kps for my iPod and 320kps to play in Traktor or Live.

In this new era of digital music and almost unlimited web storage and bandwidth this is something feasible to give you this kind of choices. If the quality is not available (like the one that we use to have on CDs) should me and you pay for this product that we have already listen in the traditional media? How can we find a way to make the pro user like DJs, Remixer, Performer to have access to the best quality we can get, and for sure I am talking about the Mastering stuff.

Once again I have to salute Nine Inches Nails to give us access to their Master tracks in download so we can play the same quality as a CD to you.

Now it is up to you when you play your favorite tracks to impress me with the best quality you can get.

Implant Violence remix contest

wow, finally hope is here!

Is this the debut of a Music 2.0 movement like we saw happening in the web a couple years ago? I really which so.

Implant, this industrial/ebm group is coming out with a "remix" contest of their song "Violence". You can listen to the album version on their myspace page here: http://www.myspace.com/implant.

Good band, good visual, good music but very bad labeling marketing .

I think (in my personal and humble point of view) that some band push by the Majors should deserve a much better treatment in regards of the branding / labeling.

Last month (or maybe more) I've stumbled across a billboard on my way to work in the tram M8. A very kind of new-wave industrial look on it. The only thing that I was able to recognize when I was asking my self "what the f... is that product/show/art/anything these people wanted to say" was the distinctive square representing a album cover art.

The only wording on the billboard were "Command" and "Client" in bold red and outlined. Ok now for those you still don't know, WE ARE IN 2000 fucking 9. Meaning that those two words "Command" and "Client" are SO freakingly over used in this cyberworld for the last 20 years.

Let me clear this up right now. I don't have anything to say about concept-band. Specifically All-Female ultra stylish design with an over use of beat-box and cheesy keys. Yes I like that. One thing I hate and that truly wish every one can understand it is for an artist that communication is very import as much as your art. If the people cannot recognize you or even find you in the internet, you are left alone.

My point is that I like them, would like see them in concert and event but their album but I totally wish that they can get a better communication director from their record label to push them where they should be in the chart.

So here is "Client"

I very enjoy their dominant-military-uniform look they have. The music is not bad at all and their video are very beautiful and well done. Enjoy this one.

I just find out that IAMX (the band that I miss last week in Berlin because it was soldout because I had to guide a friend of a friend of a friend from London because she was not available because .... well that part is not for you) will have a new album out on May 19.

Personally I don't agree with everything from PETA and I hope you can do so. Please read, be inform, ask questions, read again and make up your own mind. In these day of the information age you have the power to find the all the data. Don't let anyone (especially me) push any unverified idea in your head.

Now, let's talk about the positive stuff. Because yes we can always find some and I think it is more important to focus on the Right one than the bad ones. It always nice to find interview of our loved artist and see what they think and how they get inspiration. I think that Mr. LaPlegua have a great future in front of him with his many musical projects and his sens of "In your Face Bastard".

Bat for Lashes - Two Suns

This song "What's A Girl To Do" remind me a kind of blended extract from the old-school of Alternative (as it was called 20 years ago). A very nice mixture of Bauhaus + The Cure + Trisomie 21, kind of. I like this type bright mystical ambiance of a warm and sunny apocalyptic near future.

Indu-Noise Radiohead with computer parts

Ok I have to admit it and I don't have much shame about this; "I don't like Radiohead and I totally don't care at all if they (supposedly) get digitally rape by a huge bit and many torrent"

But this one is worth listening and seeing it. A track made with printer and computer parts, this is amazing and very well done. As I always say, music is everywhere, even in the most annoying sound for some can be use by other to make a song. The only border that exist in Music are the one that you built inside your head.

Just give them up or get it, but most of all enjoy this video

I enjoy all the buzz around the movie with the SKYNET research bolg and the Resistance blog. Each one them brings you a different point of view of this upcoming/now future. Easter in Berlin / Frohe Ostern

This year my very good friend invited me to über special party in Berlin at Residenz Avalon. http://avalon-berlin.de/

We had a good welcoming first by the valet and then by the chauffeur who drive us in this maze of building behind a factory. Inside the place the patron made us feel comfortable showing us the place.

It's a bit weird because on the first level to place looks like a cottage or bungalow of Brossard from the ceiling to the floor. Faux planché, 1970 Sear's tapisserie, Ikea furniture, like a mix and not match of furniture from 3 generation. I was feeling like home back in Canada. Even the staff there spoke to me in English. I was just missing my Bleu dry and the after-shock poutine.

Ok now the Freaking good part was at the end of the leaving room their is a door opening to a huge space made of brick stone and rustic wood open on two level. In this room we can find (my fav dungeon article) a Chain block, some cages, a bar (for drinks) and a stage. Next to the stage we can a small little door going again a bit deeper in the ground. Now the real fun begin there.

This is really La pièce de résistance. An all bricks cave with many small rooms for many different style. Many cages, a medical lab, class room and all sorts of furniture to let you imagination go ... wild. Oh and I almost forgot, they have a detention place with an interrogation room. Too wicked.
