MariachiPlazaLosAngeles.com celebrates the historic and living heritage of Mariachi Plaza de Los Angeles in Boyle Heights. A little over a mile from downtown LA, where East First Street, Boyle and Pleasant Avenues come together, the Plaza is named for the mariachi musicians who have gathered here in their elegant charro suits since the 1930s, ready to be hired to play in restaurants, at private parties or community events. These professional musicians are the heart of the vibrant community that has grown up around them. The vast majority of the mariachis live in the historic 1889 Boyle Hotel, better known as "Mariachi Hotel," on the west side of the Plaza. Soon after the turn of the millennium, plans got underway for the Mariachi Plaza Metro Station on the Gold Line Eastside Extension–La Linea del Oro. Anticipating far-reaching changes, MariachiPlazaLosAngeles.com features news, events, stories, links and images to keep us in touch with Mariachi Plaza, its people and its culture.

Welcome to the official site of the Mariachi Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles California.

This site was written as part of a Senior Independent Photojournalism project by Jason Bache under the supervision of Professor Miguel Gandert at the University of New Mexico. The purpose of this project is to develop a simple, highly functional, easily editable website for the Mariachi's who live within the Mariachi Plaza Hotel.

Jason will graduate the week of May 15, 2009 and will officially relinquish creative control of MariachiPlazaHotelLosAngeles.com shortly thereafter to Catherine Kurland.

This site is a gift to the Mariachi's, their legacy, and their future. May their children discover its presence and teach them its importance to their continued survival.
