Santiago arroyo overflowed into town

Manzanillo, Col.- Because of the heavy rains Thursday night and Friday morning the Santiago arroyo overflowed.

The flooding reached the main garden of the delegation, which was full of mud, and while the water level has begun to fall, still covers much of the first frame of the delegation.

No major damage was reported in nearby houses, to channel the stream, which literally overflowed from early morning.

Civil Protection and Municipal Police maintain an operational monitoring riverbed.

So far, no families evacuated from this area of the city are reported.

"The documentary Cuyutlán salt is good work that reflects the socioeconomic tradition of the state" and explained how interesting it will be presenting this work part of the Traditions Colimotas series, produced by the Ministry of Culture of Colima.

"Salt of Cuyutlán" describes the process of extracting salt in Cuyutlán, Armeria, the most established tradition in the town, inherited from generation to generation. It also shows one of the oldest form of this work, which starts by scratching the earth to subsequently make a pool where the water is filtered, then is distributed to the evaporation ponds called "eras", a place where grains of salt are formed, then small collection piles are made.

Some of the techniques used by Rodriguez Bogart in making this film are the micro video, showing how the brine (water with salt) is evaporated and how a grain is formed. He uses terrariums and aquariums micro video to record the settling of heavy metals and salt formation, which can be seen quickly with time laps.

Africanized bees kill old man

A farm worker was killed and two others, father and son, were injured when attacked by bees when they cleaned a road near Chandiablo in Manzanillo. According to the Director of Municipal Civil Protection, Guadalupe Tene Rodriguez, the deceased is Isaac Jimenez Campa, 73 years old. Jesus Valladares the father is hospitalized in serious condition while his son of the same name, is out of danger.

He said the incident took place around 11:40 am yesterday when the laborers cleaned a ditch that is located next to the creek Chandiablo. He added that once reported the situation, the Colima police arrived and cordoned off the area pending forensic personnel and prosecutors.

I've never been to this place in fact I first I heard of it a month or so ago. You can't just drop in but need an appointment. The contact info and cost can be found on their website below. They have a number of videos but they don't cover the subjects well and are secretive about where they are shot. Only a maybe visit for me someday. I do take issue with their claim that it's the foremost botanical garden on Mexico’s Central Pacific because the Botanical Garden just south of Vallarta has really matured and is open to drop-ins.

Paradise”…..a land where life is worry-free and simple. We all seek a place where all responsibilities are left behind, where having-to is forgotten and replaced with not-having to. Many foreigners found this “Paradise” in the beautiful country of Mexico where they find pleasant surroundings, affordable living and a wonderful lifestyle!Several years ago the Mexican Federal Government made it possible for foreigners, non-Mexicans, to acquire the “rights of ownership” for properties in the “forbidden zone” opening the door to the coastal regions where many a foreigner has purchased his “Paradise”.

Many of these “property owners” partially subsidize their “Paradise” by renting their property to visitors in tourist areas who desire a vacation rental over the traditional hotel experience. The rental income helps offset the cost or “ownership” and provides a great incentive for having the property while also using it personally. All seemed well with this arrangement until a recent issue on rental income tax requirements began to surface. While the Mexican Federal Government welcomes foreigners to purchase the “rights of ownership” on properties in Mexico, it also expects the “owners” to abide by the Mexican laws governing these “rights”. The pressure is on to get these “owners” legal and paying taxes as the law requires.

It’s turtle season on many Mexican beaches, which brings thousands of sea turtles ashore to lay their eggs — and numerous thieves to steal them. But it’s not often you see someone tossing them away.

A tourist out for a stroll on the beach Las Brisas in Manzanillo, Colima, this week came across a municipal police officer doing just that, and caught the event on film. A second officer on the scene, on becoming aware of the visitor with his camera, ordered him to stop filming.

The cameraman replied that he was in a public place, had the right to film and offered that he intended to upload the video to Facebook. Meanwhile, as this discussion is taking place, the other officer continues to remove eggs from the nest, examine them briefly, and then throw them in the sea.

A number a beach palapas have been damaged as well as other ocean side structures. It seems 3 cocodrilos preferred the ocean over the lagoon and were seen swimming in playa Miramar.

Colima, Col. - To generate awareness of the risks posed by weather events, the Hurricane Hunter aircraft will arrive at the International Airport Playa de Oro Manzanillo (ZLO), from the United States.

The director of the National Water Commission (Conagua) in Colima, José Juan Michel, said the journey that makes the plane of the U.S. Navy shows the public the tools, equipment and instruments they have.

The general public may visit from 12 noon to 6 pm.

He said this is a very important tool from the neighboring United States, to promote the culture of the Civil Protection and to raise public awareness of what we are generating, and perhaps involuntarily, causing climate changes not only in the country but worldwide.

I found this bill posted on Colima Antigua saying that it was issued in 1914. Google searching for more I found many denominations issued around that time from all over Mexico. The notes were issued during the Mexican Revolution. The Revolution caused the collapse of the Mexican government as well as the intervention of the United States. I guess with all the confusion and doubt it was safer for each state or region to print their own money. I'll let you study more if interested.

Not much to say except that access to the Manzanillo Airport (ZLO) was cutoff again when the Marabasco River overflowed it's banks last night and this morning. The tail end of Tropical Storm Manuel dumped many inches of rain on the area Monday night and Tuesday morning. Not raining now but no word on when it will open.

At the same time that Ingrid is making landfall, Tropical Storm Manuel will be bringing similar rainfall amounts to the other side of Mexico. This morning's 2 am EDT run of the experimental GFDL ensemble model predicted that a large area of Mexico is at high risk of 8+ inches of rain due to the combined effects of Ingrid and Manuel. The greatest danger is on the Pacific side in Oaxaca State, where the combined effects of the circulations of the two storms will pull a flow of very moist air upwards over the mountains, creating torrential rains. The Mexican Weather Service has already received a report of about 8 inches of rain in eastern Mexican state of Oaxaca due to Manuel's rains. The massive rains that will fall in Mexico from this one-two punch of extremely wet tropical storms will cause an extremely dangerous and expensive flood disaster in Mexico.

MEXICO CITY – President Enrique Peña Nieto touted a nearly 2,000-MW increase in the installed capacity of Mexico’s electricity system.

He made his remarks at the Manuel Alvarez Moreno thermoelectric complex, which is located in the Pacific port of Manzanillo and has recently seen its power generating capacity boosted by 1,413 MW.

Now with total installed capacity of 2,754 MW, equivalent to the electrical energy demand of the Mexican capital, that complex is the second largest nationwide, Peña Nieto said.

In addition, he said three new electrical plants began operating Wednesday: an internal combustion facility in Baja California Sur, a combined-cycle natural gas plant in Chihuahua and a geothermal plant in Puebla.
