Malayalam superstar Mammootty is taking up deglamorised roles these days. After Johny Antony’s Thapana and Anoop Kannan’s Jawan of Vellimala, his next outing will be in debut director Shibu Gangadharan’s Praise the Lord.

The filmmaker who plans to make his debut this year will base his film on Zacharia’s novella— Praise the Lord.

The story revolves around the life of a Pala-based farmer Joy who is rich but unaware of what goes on outside his town. Produced by Manoj Menon under the banner Reels Magic, the movie will roll out by year-end.

Megastar Mammootty will play a dual role in his next movie titled Jawan of Vellimala, directed by debutante Anoop Kannan and written by James Albert. Cinematographed by Satheesh Kurup, this movie will also feature Sreenivasan and Mamta Mohandas in important roles.

The story of this movie revolves around a village and its people who consider a dam in their village as a sign of pride.

This is the first film for Mammootty as a producer, under the banner named Play House. In the past lay House have distributed many movies like Rithu, Kaanakanmani, Chattambinadu, Notout, Neelathamara, Sevenes, Pranchiyettan and the Saint, The King and the Commissioner, etc.

Superstars Mammootty and Suresh Gopi starring upcoming malayalam movie The King And The Commissioner will be dubbed and released in Telugu. Koneru Kalpana is producing the Telugu version.

The King And The Commissioner movie written by Renji Panicker, the film marks the coming together of lead characters (Joseph Alex IAS and Bharath Chandran IPS) of Renji Panicker’s earlier films: The King and Commissioner. The film will be released in April.

Mammotty like Actor Not Superstar

In a response to popular comedian Tini Tom's recent reference to Mammootty 'being the only real superstar in Mollywood', Mammootty said on his visit to Kochi that he prefers not to be called as a 'superstar'.

"It is indeed an honour to be called a superstar, but considering the accusations that are often inflicted upon superstars these days; I think I'd rather be called an actor. Superstars seem to be the cause of all the problems in our industry. In fact, the epithet has turned into an offensive term," Mammootty said.

It is noteworthy that the 'superstars' Mohanlal and Mammootty have been constantly blamed for the pathetic condition of the industry for several years and even accused of allegedly ensuring that no opportunities are given to the youngsters.

Mammootty's car hit by a private bus

Megastar Mammootty's car was hit by a bus in the Aroor-Ernakulam route recently.Mammootty was returning home from the shoot of his upcoming film Venicile Vyapari, when his car was hit by a private bus. Though none of the occupants in the car were injured, including Mammootty, the crash did cause a major dent on the actor's car. The police immediately rushed to the spot and seized the bus.

Mammootty however, did not take any action on the bus driver as he had apologized to the actor for rash driving.

Wellknown Bengali film maker Budhadeb das gupta, who had been awarded many international accolades, will be shortly making a movie in Malayalam. And his debut movie will feature Megastar Mammootty in the lead, as a school teacher. It was the famous film maker himself, who had announced his plans of a Malayalam film.

Buddhedeb acknowledges that his films are more popular in Malayalam like that are in Bengal. And in Mammootty, he is not seeing a super star , but a hardworking actor who is always after offers that could establish his finesse in the acting department.

Budhhadeb will be shortly coming to Kerala to discuss his project with Mammootty, which will be on sets by the end of this year.

Megastar Mammootty's long pending King 2 is starting by the end of the month.The megastar who is holidaying abroad is expected to be back this week.King 2 has Mammootty in the lead and is a sequel to the star's The King (1995).

The megastar will once again appear as Joseph Alex, the district collector with in the scripts written by Renji Panikkar and directed by Shaji Kailas.

Mammootty has given continuous dates for the shoot of King 2, which is likely to be the star's Onam 2011 release.
