Underwater World Langkawi is one of the largest marine and fresh water aquaria in South East Asia. Since the start of its operation on 26 August 1995, it has become one of the must visit tourist destinations in Langkawi and has attracted a large number of foreign as well as local tourists.

The concept and theme of Underwater World Langkawi are geared towards Knowledge, Education and Entertainment. It is built to raise awareness on the importance of conserving our precious aquatic life forms, thus creating understanding of the deep and inseparable bond between man and nature.

Unique to Underwater World Langkawi is the gigantic 15-meter long walk-through tunnel consisting of 500,000 liter seawater which houses many big fishes and sea creatures including the Giant Green Turtle.

Other attractions include the Freshwater Fish Section, the Seashell Display, the Koi Pond, the Mini Reptilian and Invertebrate Section, the Coral Reef Section and the Poisonous and Venomous Creatures Section.

The 34,701 square foot oceanarium is located adjacent to a shopping centre and the Neptune Café. Visitors are thus provided with a one-stop shopping, eating and entertainment package, all of which are available within one area.
A new building (with 60,000 sq. ft built-up area) which displays Tropical Rainforest, Temperate and Sub-Antarctic Ecosystems, and a three-dimensional (3D) theatre with a 200-seating capacity will be opened to the public in early 2005. The Sub-Antarctic Ecosystem Display includes a spectacular “penguinarium” with an underwater tunnel for visitors to view swimming penguins.

Location

Underwater World Langkawi is located at Pantai Cenang, a popular beach to the south of Langkawi Island off the north western coast of Peninsular Malaysia.

Visitors arriving by car will have to leave their car on the mainland and take the ferry from the Kuala Perlis Jetty, Kuala Kedah or the Penang Swettenham Pier, Penang. They can then proceed to UWL by car or taxi. Visitors can also fly direct from Kuala Lumpur International Airport or Penang International Airport to Langkawi and then on to UWL by car or taxi.

Pantai Cenang.

Pantai Cenang is one of the most popular beach destinations among tourists and locals alike. Pantai Cenang is known not only for its delightful sunsets but also for its long and sandy beaches. Located about 18 kilometres from Kuah town and only three kilometres from the airport. The beach is home to a number of resorts, luxury class hotels, chalets and restaurants.

River Terrapin Breeding Cnetre

The River Terrapin Breeding Centre is located at Bota Kanan, about 40km from Ipoh, and is managed by the Wildlife Protection and National Parks Department (PERHILITAN).

If you are from Ipoh City, take the road that leads to Lumut and follow the sign to Bota Kanan. Here visitors can see the hatcheries and find out more about the habits and habitats of this riverine terrapin (Batagur baska).

Normally they will come up to lay eggs on the sandy beaches of the Perak River around this area between November - March of each year. Females River Terrapin lay eggs in the wild; the eggs are buried along sandy stretches on riverbanks for protection and the warmth required for incubation and hatching.

They bury their eggs between 3 - 4 feet into the sandy beaches for protection and warmth.
The moment they are hatched, baby terrapins, as if by instinct head straight for the river and they will not be back until they are about to lay their eggs in the sandy riverbanks.

There are also chalets available for visitors who want to stay overnight.

Mabul Island, Sabah

Sipandan, Sabah

Sipadan Island is recognized as international diving destination. Above the waterline the island is only 30 acres (12 hectares) in area and is covered by untouched rainforest. In 1933, this tiny island was declared a bird sanctuary and at the end of 2004 was closed to tourists.

As Sipadan Island is a protected area and a site of outstanding natural beauty, we urge you to behave responsibly when you visit, and make sure to control your buoyancy when diving.

Malaysia enjoys tropical climate with warm and balmy weather all year round. Temperatures range from 21°C to 32°C. Annual rainfall varies from 2,000 mm to 2,500 mm. Humidity level is at an average of 80% throughout the year. Loose light clothing is the order of the day and plenty of sunscreen is always a good idea when holidaying or diving in the tropics.

Malaysia has a wet season and a dry season. It all depends where you intend to go. Sabah eastern coast (including Pulau Sipadan) can be dived whole year round even during the less settled November to March period. Heavier rains can be felt only during typhoons around the region but diving condition is still acceptable. Sabah western coast - dry months are from January to May, wet months are from June to December.

This is the look of Redang Island Marine Park. Yea, if you go to Redang, this is a must visit place for you. I believe that every of the tours there will include a trip to this marine park. It is a wonderful place for all the marine life there, works as a sanctuary.

So you see, this is how we snorkelling there. A staircase lead down to the sea, and if you snorkel around that area, you can definitely sees tons of fishes swimming here and there. All those fishes will surround you, there are fishes everywhere. You can get some bread from those beach boys and feed those fishes there. And trust me, it will be an amazing experience feeding fishes there. Lots and lots of fishes are there, all waiting for you to feed them.

There are plenty of fishes there in the marine park. The only thing that I regret is that I forgot to bring my camera to this marine park, I leave my camera on the boat. What I have with me is the underwater camera which is not available to make it into softcopy. Therefore I have to find photos from other sites and explain them here. If there are links on those pictures, you can feel free to visit them.

This is the Redang Marine Park view from far away. So what kind of fishes you can see there? There are a lots. And I don't know names for fishes, I just know some which are more famous. You can see barracudas there, and the most amazing is this, you can see it there right below the marine park. It hides under the pillars (columns) of the park.

You can see this thing under the marine park. Its called the Eel fish. Its body is very long, the one under Redang marine park has got around 1 to 2 meters long.

These are the barracudas, they have long mouth just like saw fish. LOL. So, the Redang marine park is a must visit place if you ever go to Redang Island. And learn one thing from me, bring your cameras along, and if possible, buy an underwater camera, just around RM50 (low quality). But the things that inconvenient is that you got no idea where to keep your cameras when you're off to snorkelling. Maybe those beach boys can keep for you.Below are some photos took by me, not in Redang marine park, cause I didn't brought my camera along.

Redang Island

Port Dickson Bearch
The popular beach of Port Dickson is also a town in itself. Years of development has blunt its glitter but the quaint place still has some magic left to uncover. Visitors can still enjoy the usual swimming and water sports but those after untouched spots should head to Tanjung Tuan, a beach accessible only by a 30 minute trek through coastal forest or the Blue Lagoon, a scenic and peaceful beach.

Sri Menanti Royal Museum
The charming town of Sri Menanti houses the Sri Menanti Royal Museum which was built at the turn of the century with only wood – no nails or screws. Incorporating 99 pillars soaring at 65 feet each, the museum is an architectural marvel. Inside, the regalia of the Negeri Sembilan Royal family are stored along with costumes, weapons, bed chambers and documents on the Royal lineage.

Lukut Museum
The museum commemorates Lukut’s golden era as a bustling tin mining area. Artifacts from a sunken Dutch-East Indian battleship from 1606 are also stored here. Other attractions include the nearby Lukut fort built in 1847 to protect the town’s former tin trade.

Adat Museum
Learn all about the Minangkabaus who founded the state in this museum in Rembau. The Adat Museum has a collection of cultural artifacts from heirlooms to headgear and charts to musical instruments pertaining to Minangkabau culture.

Ulu Bendul Recreational Forest
This recreational forest is a pretty place for camping and trekking. There are also clear streams to bathe in and for those who like climbing; the Angsi Mountain is located here at 825 meters high. Chalets, camping sites, parking bays and playgrounds are available.

Lata Kijang Waterfalls
Nestled within the Kenaboi Forest Reserve in Jelebu, Lata Kijang is one the highest waterfalls in Malaysia. It is accessible only by 4WD vehicles from the Jelebu main road. The journey in to the waterfalls will enable you to see ‘Orang Asli’ or Aborigines, their villages and fascinating flora and fauna.

Pedas Hot Springs
The hot springs are located about 15 km away from Seremban. Here, you can relax in the park’s hot springs and relieve your muscle ache and soreness as the therapeutic water does its magic.

Firmly rooted as Malaysia's historical city, visiting Malacca is like a journey back in time to witness the adventures and discoveries during Malacca's golden age. Today, there are many historical sites to visit that give you a glimpse of Malacca's glorious past. This is balanced with other modern attractions such as water theme parks and cultural parks.

A Famosa
The A Famosa is the oldest surviving European architecture in Malaysia. Its name means ‘Famous' in Portuguese and it was built by them in 1511 during the colonisation of Malacca. The once-might fortress protected the spice trade route between Portugal and the rest of Asia. It was taken over by the Dutch in 1641 and given to the British in 1641. The English would have demolished the entire structure had it not been for the timely intervention of Stamford Raffles, a famous British governor who recognised its historical significance. All that remains is some foundation stones, some cannons and a tiny gate – the Porta de Santiago but the place still makes for some great, historical visiting.

A Famosa Water World
The A Famosa Water World is the largest water theme park in Malaysia located near Alor Gajah. Among the excitements found on the park are speed slides, raft rides, tube slides and a large wave pool.Every weekend, it draws crowds from the Southern side of Malaysia who come to enjoy a splashing good time while exploring Malacca's historical sights.

Cheng Hoon Teng Temple
The Cheng Hoon Teng is a historical monument that is recognised as one of the finest Chinese temples in Malaysia – even receiving a UNESCO award for outstanding architectural restoration. The temple itself is crafted with ornate mythological figures, carvings and paintings and was built in the early 1600s' by ‘Kapitans' or chiefs of the Chinese trading community in Malacca.

Cultural Museum
The Cultural Museum was built in 1954 by the British in a Dutch house that was in turn built around 1660. The museum later moved to the Stadhuys in 1982 before it was finally moved into a RM2.5 million complex in 1986 built by Malaysia's fourth Prime Minister. The museum has a collection of 1,350 items; artefacts, prints, photographs and drawings which represent the history and culture of the Malaccan Sultanate and migrant communities in the early centuries. There are also prints, photographs, decorative arts, costumes, jewelleries, brassware and ancient weapons on display. The museum itself is housed within a replica of a Malay palace, built based on sketches found in the Malay Annals.

Hang Tuah mausoleum
Hang Tuah was described in legend as the admiral of Melaka's naval forces who deflected countless attacks against Malacca from Siamese and Achenese fleets. The mausoleum was built to commemorate and remember his story as a knight in the 15 th century.

Hang Li Poh Well
Hang Li Poh was a princess who was sent from the emperor of China to marry the reigning Malaccan Sultan Mansur Shah as a sign of good diplomatic relations, in mid-15th century. Her entourage built the well in 1459 which became the main source of water for much of the town. It is believed that the well has never dried up, even in the most extreme of drought. The well was also said to have been filled with poison before by the Javanese during the Dutch occupation and another time by the Japanese during World War Two. Today, it is a famous wishing well and those who throw coins into it are said to come to Malacca time and time again in the future.

St John's Fort
The Fort was originally built as a chapel by the Portuguese but it was eventually renovated into a fort by the Dutch. Sitting on top a hill, the fort is unique in the sense that it was built to defend from inland invaders, rather than the sea. Hence, the canons are faced rather awkwardly towards inland as visitors shall see.

Christ Church
The Christ Church was built in 1753 by the Dutch to commemorate a century of their rule. It still stands today in Malacca city, a landmark of fine Dutch architecture. The beams were constructed from cutting and carving a single tree and have no joints! The hand-made pews, on the other hand, date back some 200 years. Mounted on its walls are some decorative fanlights and plaques in memory of those who died of various epidemics. Yet another plaque, a wooden one, sits at the rear of the western wall remembering local planters who did not live through World War II. The church is indeed a sight for those who love fine structural design.

St Peter's Church
Built in 1710, the church is currently the oldest functioning Catholic Church in the country. There is also a bell tower which dates all the way back to 1608 and was made in Goa, India. The church itself was built through the donations of a Dutchman who presented it to the Portuguese builders. Every year, the church becomes alive with activity during Catholic celebrations.

Stadhuys
The Stadhuys is one of Malacca's most recognisable landmarks – Built in 1650, it was the Dutch administrative centre with a clock tower and painted in bright red.A Historic and Ethnography Museum with displays of traditional bridal costumes and other relics is located inside. The building itself has some great architectural details including heavy wooden doors, thick red walls and wrought-iron hinges.

Bukit China
Bukit China is situated southeast of Bandar Malacca on a 42-acre hill and is actually carpeted with more than 12,500 graves. What makes this place special is that it is the oldest and largest traditional Chinese cemetery outside China. Some graves can be traced back to more than four centuries ago to the first Chinese immigrants in Malacca. Ironically, this was also the place where the princess, or concubine, Hang Li Poh (a fact still disputed today) settled in, having been sent to Malacca as a mark of friendship with the Malaccan Sultan in 1511. There are also 20 Muslim tombs in the area.

D Paradise
Malacca's most famous recreational rainforest is a tranquil haven for wildlife and natural scenery. Covering an area of about 320 hectares, Ayer Keroh enables you to learn, as you walk through the trails, the marvellous diversity of plant life and animals that inhibit this range. Other activities you can do here include jogging, biking and hiking besides the customary jungle treks. There are also tree houses in the area to give you a bird's eye view of the surroundings and chalets to camp overnight.

Taman Mini ASEAN
Located in Ayer Keroh, the Taman Mini ASEAN is a theme park dedicated to showcasing the culture of Southeast Asian countries including Malaysia.
Visitors can view replicas of traditional Malaysian houses and other Southeast countries as well as handicrafts, costumes and models of world-famous monuments and scenery.

Baba Nyonya Heritage Museum
The Baba Nyonya Heritage Museum at Tan Cheng Lock Street is the ancestral home of three generations of a Baba Nyonya family. The building is now a beautifully-designed museum that showcases the unique culture and legacy of Straits-born Chinese. Alor Setar
The best place to start exploring Kedah's cultural heritage is in its capital of Alor Setar, with its many handsome old buildings like the Balai Besar, Balai Seni Negeri, Masjid Zahir, Courthouse and General Post Office, all of which define the atmosphere of colonial rule.

Pulau Langkawi
Kedah’s economic trump card is Langkawi Island. Langkawi draws tourists all across the world each year that come to enjoy its beaches, shopping and sights during the holiday season.

Pedu Lake
This lake was created by making a dam out of a water catchment area deep in the jungles of Kedah to supply paddy farmers with water. Now the lake also doubles up as a peaceful retreat, famous for its ‘tualang’ trees and honey from bees.

Bukit Pinang
Bukit Pinang, located in Gunung Inas, is an orchard famous for its local durians, a thorny fruit with an aroma to boot. Visitors can also sample other delicious tropical fruit which is freshly grown here all-year-round.

Sungai Sedim
Sungai Sedim is a fast-flowing river that contains a 17 km stretch for white-water rafting. Access is through Kampung Lindungan Raja in the Kulim district, roughly a 2-hour drive from Alor Setar. You can also kayak or trek in the jungles here.

Bukit Hijau
Situated in the heart of the Gunung Inas Virgin Forest Reserve in Baling, the Bukit Hijau recreational forest has an incredible variety of flora and fauna. Many people come here to swim in its streams fed by a seven-tiered waterfall famous for its pure, crystal-clear waters.

Seri Perigi
The Seri Perigi Recreational Forest is located 35 km away from Alor Setar. The highlight is a spectacular 100 meter drop of waterfalls, which is also popular as a picnic spot among locals. The famed Jerai Mountain feeds this waterfall directly, so you can enjoy a cold and refreshing bath in refreshing mountain water.

Bujang Valley
Bujang Valley is located near the town of Sungai Petani and was the scene of a once thriving Hindu-Buddhist civilization dating to the 5th Century. Over 50 archaeological sites have been discovered here containing the ruins of Hindu and Buddhist temples. The Lembah Bujang Archaeological Museum was built here to display some of the findings, including pottery shards, ceramics and stone carvings. Indian tridents and gemstones from the Middle East are also displayed.

Balai Nobat
This imposing 18 meter-tall building sits patiently in Alor Setar. It houses the royal musical instrument set known as the Nobat, which is played by the Royal Orchestra only during royal ceremonies including inaugurations, royal births, weddings, and funerals. It is believed to have Hindu origins dating back centuries ago.

Birth House of Dr Mahathir Mohamad
This humble house made of attap wood was the birthplace of Malaysia’s fourth and arguably, most outspoken Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir. Memorabilia relating to the life and times of Dr. Mahathir Mohamad are displayed in the interior and the exterior of the house which will, hopefully, give you a deep insight into his persona.

Ubudaih Mosque
Ubudiah Mosque Kuala Kangsar’s crowning glory, the mosque was constructed at the turn of the century and features Islamic architecture in its magnificent domes and minarets.

Teluk Intan Leaning Clock Tower

The town of Teluk Intan is mainly noted for its unusual leaning clock tower. This pagoda-like structure has a leftward slant and stands at 25.5m. It was built in 1885 and was originally used as a covered water tank.

Royal Belum

Covering a vast area of 117500ha, the Royal Belum state park ranks second after Taman Negara. A wildlife haven, it possesses an immense wealth of flora and fauna which includes large mammals such as elephants, rhinoceros, tapir and tigers.

Taiping Lake Gardens & Taiping Zoo

Taiping Lake Gardens is the oldest and among the most beautiful in the country. The large lake, lush greenery and diverse flowering plants are its major attractions. Located within the area is the Taiping Zoo which houses local andexotic wildlife species in excellent surroundings.

Bukit Larut

Visitors can enjoy the refreshing cool air and breathtaking view of the West Coast of Peninsular Malaysia at the summit (1035m). A former tea plantation, Bukit Larut, also affectionately known as Maxwell Hill by locals, is the country’s oldest hill resort.

Kuala Gula Bird Sanctuary

The sanctuary is home to over 160 species of birds, including the rare Milky Stork and several types of migratory birds as well as a good variety of land and sea mammals.

Gua Tempurung

These ancient caves stretch over a kilometre from the south of Sungai Siput to Kuala Dipang and comprise of five domes with ceilings that resemble coconut shells with various formations of stalactites and stalagmites.

Sungai Klah Hot Spring

Relax and rejuvenate at the family baths as well as swimming and therapeutic pools which are reputed to have healing properties. Also available here are a garden, pebbled reflexology path and water reflexology courses.

Pangkor Island

Within the complex are memorials erected in honour of Malay warriors such as Dato' Maharaja Lela, Dato' Sagor and Si Puntum. Other interesting sights include Mr. Birch's memorial monument, the burial site of Si Puntum, Dato' Maharaja Lela's fortress and the Lela Tentaka cannons used against the British army.

Kellie’s Castle

In 1915, William Kellie Smith, an English rubber planter commissioned the construction of this mansion which was never completed. It is believed that this mysterious mansion has hidden rooms and a secret tunnel.

Ipoh Railway Station and City Hall

The Ipoh Railway Station was completed in 1917 and features a mixture of Moorish and Victorian architecture. It has one of the best station hotels in the country known as the Majestic Hotel. Just across the station is the Dewan Bandaraya or City Hall, a huge white neo-classical building.

Perak Tong and Sam Poh Tong Cave Temple

The Perak Tong Temple within one of the caves houses grottoes with statues and paintings of Buddha set into nooks as well as a 12.8 metre-high sitting Buddha. A passage leads to the cave’s 385 steps and opens onto a ledgewhich gives a view of the countryside. Another famous cave temple is the Sam Poh Tong Temple in Gunung Rapat which features various statues of Buddha set among natural stalactites and stalagmites.

Lost World of Tambun

This exciting water theme park features a wave pool, natural hot spring, children’s area as well as tube slides and speed coasters. Visitors can also take the opportunity to see the theme park’s tigers in action at the Tiger Valley.

Khoo Kongsi
Khoo Kongsi is one of the grandest clan temples in the country. Clustered in its square are an elaborately embellished temple, association building, a traditional theatre as well as several 19th century row houses.

Kek Lok Si Temple
Reputed to be the biggest Buddhist temple complex in Southeast Asia, the temple stands majestically on a hill in Air Itam. It boasts the beautiful “Pagoda of Ten Thousand Buddhas” which blends Chinese, Myanmarese and Thai architecture.

Snake Temple
Built in 1850 and dedicated to the deity, Chor Soo Kong, the temple is a sanctuary for pit vipers said to be “servants” of the deity. Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion Featuring 18th and 19th century Chinese architecture, this stately mansion comprises beautiful bedrooms, libraries, ceremonial halls, courtyards and gardens. It also houses a rare porcelain collection, sculptures, carvings, tapestries, embroideries and antiques.

Fort Cornwallis
The fort was built on the site of Sir Francis Light’s historic landing in 1786. Originally a wooden stockade, it is now a concrete structure and currently houses cannons, a history gallery, café, handicraft and souvenir centre as well as an open-air amphitheatre.

War Museum
Built around the remnants of a British fort, this 20-acre museum contains several installations above and below ground where old war relics are stored. Visitors can weave through a complex to view barracks, old cookhouses, lock-ups, tunnels and ventilation shafts.

Penang Museum
Hundreds of old prints, paintings, clay, stone and porcelain ware as well as other historical artefacts that highlight the important periods in Penang’s development can be found here.

Kapitan Keling Mosque
Built in early 19th century, the mosque features an ochre yellow façade and a dome-shaped minaret reflecting Moorish Islamic influence. It was named after the Indian Muslim merchant, the Kapitan Keling (headman), Caudeer Mohudeen. Acheen Street Malay Mosque Built in 1820 on land donated by SyedSheriff Tengku Syed Hussain Aidid, the vernacular-style mosque, also known as Masjid Melayu, features an octagonal minaret and a Moorish arcade.

Chinatown
Large and well-preserved, its numerous clan houses, shophouses and temples provide a fascinating insight into the lifestyle of early Chinese immigrant settlers who came here in the 1800s.

Little India
This quaint Indian town dates back over two centuries and boasts the 167 years old Sri Mahamariamman Temple. Worth browsing here are the pre-war terrace buildings which house restaurants, jewellery and textile shops, dress retailers, music stores, barbers as well as shops selling spices, sundries and cutlery.

Pinang Peranakan Mansion
Contained in this mansion are elaborate traditional costumes and accessories, lovely porcelain pieces, furniture, orks of art brought in from China and Europe as well as artefacts elated to the history and colourful lifestyle of the Baba Nyonya people of Penang.

St. George’s Church
The church is one of the oldest landmarks in the city and was named after the patron saint of England. It features a memorial canopy dedicated to Captain Francis Light.

Wat Chaiya Mangkalaram
A unique Buddhist temple with Thai, Myanmarese and Chinese architecture, it houses a 33-metre gold-plated reclining Buddha said to be one of the longest in the world. The niches behind the statue house urns contain the ashes ofdevotees.

P. Ramlee’s House
Originally built in 1926 to commemorate the late P. Ramlee, Malaysia’s foremost entertainer, the house features the life history of the late singer, actor, composer and film director. The various exhibits include his personal memorabilia and also items belonging to his family.

Penang Hill
Malaysia’s first hill station, Penang Hill is 830m above sealevel. Ascend to the top by hiking up or by travelling in the funicular trainwhich has been operational since 1922 and enjoy the cool climate aswell as the fantastic view at the summit.

Penang National Park
The park offers excellent hiking trails which lead to secluded beaches at Teluk Duyung, Muka Head and Pantai Kerachut. It also has a turtle nesting site as well as a unique meromictic lake.

Tropical Spice Garden
Visitors can get a feel of plants, birds and insects in a tropical environment at this eight-acre garden which has over 500 exotic varieties of plants.

Tropical Fruit Farm
