Supreme Pianos is designed for the purpose that using physical modeling technology to achieve the same reality level as sampling while keeping the CPU usage low. Harmony Rendering Engine

Harmony Rendering Engine is a ground breaking technology developed to give physical modeling instruments more reality in sound compared to sample libraries.

The first step in Harmony Rendering Engine is using a group multi phase filters to separated all harmony components in an instrumental sound. After this step, we could obtain a series of harmony components.

The second step is mapping the harmony components to the physical modeling skeleton and then rendering to the final result.

The main advantage of Harmony Rendering Engine is that the CPU usage does not affect too much by polyphony numbers. For under heavy duty situation, the CPU usage by Harmony Rendering Engine is 3 times as mono in maximum. But in a sample player, 128 polyphonies often mean 128 times CPU consumption compared to mono. So harmony rendering will lower CPU usage a lot. Harmony Rendering Engine will also be limited in size. It is much less in size than sanples.

Harmony Rendering Engine also could give the sounds more color when cooperated with Multi-Dimension Vector Synthesis technology

Multi-Dimension Vector Synthesis

Multi-Dimension Vector Synthesis (MDVS in short) is a patented technology developed for next generation physical modeling. MDVS takes all factors as dimensions and modeling the behavior between each of them. For example, MDVS takes pitch, velocity and time as three dimensions and modeling the behavior between them. The result of MDVS leads to a very accurate model.

Optimal Coding

Cooperated with Harmony Rendering Engine and Multi-Dimension Vector Synthesis, Optimal Coding makes the CPU usage even lower than a sample player! Also the RAM usage is subtle and the plug-in could be loaded within two seconds, that’s really fast. For today’s quad-core system, Supreme Pianos consume less than 2% CPU under heavy duty (over 64 polyphonies). And in a very old system like Pentium III 533, the CPU usage remains 20% maximum under heavy duty.

CPU usage under heavy duty on a quad core system. Kontakt 2 is using an 800MB piano sample library for simple sample playback. You could see Supreme Pianos cost only 50% CPU of a sample player! For other physical modeling competitors, Supreme Pianos could win with ease.

Repedalling

The real pianos the strings doesn’t stop vibrating immediately after you release the key, and if you press the sustain pedal in that short interval while the string is still vibrating, you could allow it to sound again and continue from that velocity point. This works mainly for the bass notes.

Also when you hold one key and press the pedal. The sound will naturally switch to pedal down sounds. Repedalling feature enable Supreme Pianos sound more nature than others when you press the pedal. And what is more, different pedal value (CC64) in Supreme Piano result different sounds while others have only two values.

Real Dynamic Response System

Proprietary Real Dynamic Response System accurately represents real grand piano’s dynamic response. The Real Piano’s dynamic response differs from what we hear in sample library. Every note of the real grand has its own dynamic response. For example, low note A0 could have 33dB dynamic range while High note C8 has a 53dB dynamic range.

Real Dynamic Response System let every notes have individual dynamic response which could accurately represents real grand piano’s dynamic response. The result of Real Dynamic Response System is supernatural and brilliant sounding.

Also we know that MIDI has only 128 velocity values. Real Dynamic Response System successfully exceeds this limit and could have a range over 16 millions velocity levels. The result of this leads to an exquisite sounding.

The 264-strings Sympathetic Resonance System

Sympathetic Resonance happens when you hold some notes while hit another note. The strings sympathetic resonate with each other. The pitch and volume are determined by note and also the holding note. So it is a very complex system that other Piano VSTi and sample library failed to recreates before. Supreme Pianos uses 264-strings Sympathetic Resonance System that first time recreates the whole behavior.

Bar Chimes are percussion instruments that are used in a wide range of musical styles, producing that twinkling or sparkling sound often used by percussionists. They consist of a row of tuned solid metal bars that hang on strings from a wooden beam. When moved, usually with a sweeping action, the bars will swing and collide in a chaotic manner, creating that recognisable shimmering sound from all the random collisions and interactions. The BarChimes plug-in physically emulates a set of bar chimes, using complex kinematic physics routines. Great care has gone into translating the physics of gravity, friction, and weight of the bars, including their appearance. The sounds of the bar interactions are created using editable partials and length frequencies, including percussive hits, decay elements, and spectral alterations.

ABBEY ROAD 60s DRUMS provides astonishingly authentic sound as well as deep and detailed control. Everything you need to get the sound you want – from vintage to modern – is clearly laid-out in three control pages: Drums, Mixer, and Options. For that extra touch of realism, the parameters of volume, velocity, time, pitch, and EQ may be randomized. In addition, the ‘Exclude Direct Mics’ option allows the samples of the direct mics to be excluded from the randomization parameters. This lets you impart your drums tracks with subtle, nuances that avoid sounding automatically “randomized”.

On the Drum Page’s top panel you can individually adjust the tuning, volume envelope, and overhead and room microphone mixes for each drum. The kick drum has additional controls for adjusting the balance between microphones inside and outside the drum. Similarly, for the snare you can adjust the balance between the snare top and snare bottom microphones.

The bottom panel lets you select articulations for the selected drum. For example, selecting the snare drum will give an articulation menu showing the different types of snare hits such as center, halfway, rimshot, flam, roll and others. Each articulation has its own volume envelope, with knobs for ‘Attack’, ‘Hold’, and ‘Decay’. One popular drum recording technique of the 1960s was to cover the snare and toms with tea towels, so samples of this technique are also included. In addition, each articulation can be assigned to a MIDI note, allowing you to fully customize your kit mapping.

The Mixer Page is where you can control the levels of the various microphones. You’ll also find the panning, output routing and solo/mute controls here. On the left side are the direct microphone channels with the overhead and room microphones on the right. The buttons ‘Drums’ and ‘Percussion’ at the top right switch the direct mic controls from the regular drums (kick, snare, hi-hat and toms) to the percussion instruments (tambourine, claps and stick hits).

The Options Page includes various parameters that let you fine tune the sound of Abbey Road 60s Drums and breathe life into your drum tracks. Not only can you make comprehensive adjustments to MIDI velocity curves and playing ranges you can also adjust the volume of the snare bottom microphone bleed – a common sound in acoustic drum recordings.

Cream Tube is based on one of the most famous overdrive circuits ever. This circuit was used in different versions, but the tone remained pretty much the same through the variations. The reputation of this effect is due to the general design and gain stage specificity. The general design relies on the succession of three amplification stages, each providing some clipping. The middle stage is the main Gain stage. That stage was designed to give a smooth overdrive tone close to tube sound, using only solistate components. This stage clips the signal but let a specifically filtered part of it pass below the clipping treshold. Nos han llegado algunos destellos sobre una nueva groovebox que podría estar con nosotros dentro de poco. Procedería de una compañía llamada Feeltune y tendría el nombre clave de Rhizome. Su desarrollador proclama, con un toque un tanto hiperbólico, que el dispositivo “reinventará las reglas para grabar y tocar música”.

Las especificaciones desveladas tienen la siguiente forma:

- Mezclador digital con varias salidas
- Anfitrión de gran capacidad para efectos e instrumentos VST

Hasta aquí, todo más o menos ya conocido y nada innovador. Aunque quizá el detalle más interesante sea la compatibilidad VST en un formato de máquina groovebox. Eso supondría que, en teoría, podrías usar tus instrumentos y efectos en formato de software.

Pero el vídeo que ilustra esta noticia muestra claramente que Rhizome sólo es un prototipo -y bastante voluminoso por cierto. Si nada lo impide, Rhizome debutará ante el mundo en la feria Musikmesse de Frankfurt que se celebrará entre los días 24 y 27 de este mes. Y allí viajaremos para contarte este evento y otros muchos. Así las cosas, hasta el lanzamiento anunciado para el tercer cuatrimestre de 2010, tendrás que conformarte con lo que vayan desvelando en el sitio web de Feeltune.
