In 1977 Manolis Andronikos made the spectacular discovery of Tomb II in the Great Tumulus at Vergina in Macedonia. Andronikos identified the occupants of that tomb as Philip II, King of Macedonia (359-336 B.C.) and father of Alexander III, and perhaps his last wife, Kleopatra. Ever since a controversy has raged about Andronikos’ identification. In this article, Miltiades Hatzopoulos reviews the various alternate identifications and the evidence for them, and comes to the conclusion that Andronikos was correct.

This is an update with additional signatures to the initial letter that was sent on May 18th, 2009. In that letter they had presented evidence regarding the ancient history of Macedonia and the ethnicity of Alexander the Great in an attempt to clear the historical inaccuracies generated by the name dispute between Greece and FYROM.

On May 18th, 2009,
Two hundred Classical Scholars from around the world sent a letter to the President of the United States of America, Barack Obama, in which they present evidence regarding the ancient history of Macedonia and the ethnicity of Alexander the Great in an attempt to clear the historical inaccuracies generated by the name dispute between Greece and FYROM.
They request his intervention in cleaning up some of the historical debris left in the Balkans by the Bush administration.
