ABCs Old & New...

I thought it might be fun to post some new designs we've been working on before they even make it to our site, since I'm a bit backed up with new designs, orders and products we're working on and hope people find these animals cute enough to comment on, here, Facebook or Twitter.

Also, we like to give credit where credit is due and to that end we met with some great gals earlier in the year and these mompreneurs call themselves the Yahoo Sisterhood, since they all own Yahoo stores. We shared information with these clever ladies, regarding each of our online stores and in the process, asked their opinions about some of our designs and how we might improve upon them. Their suggestions for making the ABCs lighter and offering more colors and no background, prompted us to make some significant changes to a few designs throughout the store. We'd love to hear your ideas for improvements or new designs too!

Once again the Summer flew by, seemingly before I turned the calendar page.
With school beginning again shortly and Fall just around the corner, new ideas for a revamped alphabet, colors and new animals are under way to help make learning for kids a little more fun.

Along with new ideas for Halloween are lurking in the shadows, to be served up on kid's plates & bowls asa special treat this holiday season.

This silly doodle started out as something I had played with one night and then I decided to try out my iPad and videoing me finishing the sketch while sitting in my living room. It doesn't get much more relaxed than this!

I even wound up finishing the entire sketch as a completed illustration, with ideas of a few more silly dragons flying around my head and the castles. Be on the look out for the finsihed version. Coming soon to a You Tube near you. ~ Enjoy!

Since I enjoy animals and love drawing the two often combine to bring new designs to life. Recently, among my circle of friends, several horses were due to deliver in early Spring.

By the beginning of May the wobbly foals came into the world, two colts and two fillies, four in all, just in time for Mother's day!

With all the photos sent my way, inevitably a new design was born too. So for all the horse lovers and mother's too ~ Sweet Dreams.

Like the millions of others around the world, I've enjoyed Oprah over these 25 years and I will be sad to see the show end today. She has affected so many lives in positive ways and rightfully, earned the respect of her peers and the millions that adore her. She put in many more hours then one would imagine for a woman of her status because she cared about her work enough to bring the truth to viewers and make a difference while she reached out daily to a worldwide audience, willing to listen.

I find it emotional to see another revered icon leave the comfort my daily life, so much so that I took a minute to zip out a cartoon of this inspiring soul. I'm grateful for all the enlightenment she has brought every time I sat down to watch her show and hear her speak. I look forward to her new endeavors on OWN and hope to see her smile every now and again.

But for today - I will be parked in front of the TV to see her say her farewells.

...and I still hope to get the chance to meet her one day. It could happen!?

A while back I got a hankerin for some country western art. It just so happened, I stumbled across this cowboy I had drawn a while back and decided it was time for him to get back in the saddle again and ride west. Then I got to thinkin' - that he might need a pardner, so this little blond feller joined the posse too. I finally realized... how 'bout them cowgirls?! So a little lady or two joined the gang and now they're giddy-upin and yee-hawin into town!

Just remember, don't squat with your spurs on and there never was a horse that couldn't be rode and never was a cowboy who couldn't be throwed. So if yer so inclined to head West, just saddle up and hitch yer hide to a click on any image to find these cowpokes in a nearby town. There's not a lick of cowboy blood in me but I can ride in my dreams and now your kids can too! Happy trails...

Spring is official...

In honor of the veil of Winter's cold being lifted (somewhat!) and the green sprouts of grass appearing, along with the birds singing outside my windows... I felt the need for new animals to emerge. For some reason, the tortoise and the hare came to mind and it sort of stuck.

Some of these new animal designs will be available on Bella Baby Art or Green Start Baby Art but others may find their way into our new licensing Venture, soon to be officially announced. ~ In the meantime, enjoy!

Royal Ribbits Leaping to the Top...

OK, so I finally went toad-ally green - at least for this design! My sister and wicked good, business partner, just loves our frog designs announcing the birth of royal heirs, so this seemed a natural leap for a growth chart. Creating a pile of crowned, green amphibians, leaping over one another to get to the top of a hoppin high pile just to break the spell - was too much fun!

The spell of course, has to do with kissing a frog and having a prince or princess magically appear. Of course, at 5 ft high, the magic spell is broken and being all grown, is written by royal decree at the top of this growth chart. Seemed only right that a frog near the top, sounding a trumpet to signify the royal ladder of life has been climbed.

Hope you enjoy these little royal croaks and find them as much fun to look at as I did to draw.

OK, so I'm all a flutter about the newest addition to our children's growth charts. In keeping with warmer thoughts and the promise of Spring ~ gardens, flowers, birds, bees and finally those colorful wings of flutter & fancy - butterflies!

This design incorporates a swirling vine up through the center, with flowers growing among it. There are seven butterflies floating, fluttering and flying about, socializing and dancing on air. This fun illustration should please most little girls who enjoy color and chasing butterflies and all the while growing up.

Butterfly Blues

Butterflies fit right in with flowers and gardens and they're one of the gentlest reminders of childhood and miracles and change. Their colors dance across the air as they flutter among the flowers and are chased by the wind or children playing. No garden decor would be complete without wings, to go along with roots. The latest addition to our new birdhouses which can be found in the natures garden collection is adorned with a little red bird or baby cardinal, in honor of my Dad's favorite team ~ along with some moon, stars, flowers, vines and a bumble bee ~ for a gracious greeting with the standard phrase Every Birdie Welcome or personalize it with a child's name. Hope you find the new nests to be the best!

For the Birds...

With the weather being as cold as it has been lately and the old snow still hanging around, thoughts of Spring have been creeping into my mind. I'm missing the green landscapes and fragrant flowers that we all tend to admire. I've planted gardens in the past but the bugs creep me out and I truly detest bees - they still sting, regardless of ignoring them!

So, in my little world of make-believe, (the kind of child-like reality my mind likes to dwell in) I've created gardens of fun and fantasy ~ where bees don't sting and little birdies sing and flowers bloom in pots and gardens fed with sun, water and nature's love. There are more to come but the birdhouses just had to come out to play! Hope you like them.

It had been quite a while since I'd done any portraits or "caricatures", as I had dubbed my work. Over the last 6 or so years, I've spent most of my time creating illustrations, cartoons, drawings and designs for cute, fun gifts, kids room themes, baby nursery art and organic baby clothes designs.

Then, this past Christmas, the thought to do something special for a few dear friends attending our Christmas party, became an inspiration. Sometimes, creating something from the heart brings out the best gift of all, at least for me it seems to. I found photos of my friends and jotted down their jobs, hobbies, favorite this and thats and in only a few days, I actually managed to get my gifts done and create a style of drawing I call ~ "Character Art".

My friends loved their gifts and I didn't catch a glimpse of even one grimace! There were smiles, laughter, generous praises and Thank yous to fill my heart with pride ~ and give me the courage to offer this style illustration to our customers as well.

A "Caricature" is a humorous, exaggeration of someone's style and features and even when done really well, sometimes isn't appreciated by the subject in it. The Character Art I'm creating, is done from reference photos and drawn by hand, digitally. Each is a realistic, cartoon style drawing of a person's face done very large with a tiny body, purposefully out of proportion for a touch of humor. Each character's qualities, attire and words are added for a personalized, flattering portrayal.

Happy Hour is Nap time!

The 2 o'clock drag is when I want to snooze most days. Nap time seems to work best when we're past the "kid age", like when we have to begin being responsible. Of course when you're a parent nap time can be happy hour too cause it's time for the little ones to give you a rest! Let's face it, for kids ~ sleep, is just a time when you're not awake.
This little doggie gets the idea and fits in just fine with the new designs of critters - just look at how quickly it snuggled in, to a chair and can make itself right at home in any room!

For my friend Mary Adams ~
... who seems busier then a mountain lion in a room full of rockin chairs most days and is full of optimism! She's taught everyone how to pass along the best cyber-hugs and offers her kind words and warped sense of humor each day.
