My mother is now retired and she is lucky enough that she can have a few holidays a year. At Christmas she asked for Nintendo DS Lite and Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training Game. Still struggling for Mothers Day Gift Ideas? Well, is your mum difficult to get hold of? I know when I try to call my mum for an urgent babysitting request she’s never anywhere to be found. So this year I’m getting her a mobile phone for one of her mothers day gifts. Then there’ll be no escape – as long as she turns it on!

Amazon have some great deals on DVDs especially for Mothers Day. We’ve picked out a few of our personal favourites which are such great value at the moment, if she hasn’t seem some of them you could afford to buy more than one.

One of our great British favourites is Notting Hill. It’s hard to believe it was released 10 years ago. Starring the beautiful Julia Roberts and the handsome Hugh Grant, it’s the tale of a world famous actress Anna Scott and Notting Hill bookshop owner William Thacker. Normally their paths would never cross, but this is the story of what happens when they do. A true fairy-tale with some fantastic comedy moments – most supplied by William’s bunch of friends and his flatmate Spike, played brilliantly by Rhys Ifans. And it all ends happily ever after. If your Mum was a fan of Sex in the City on TV, why not treat her to the movie. A few years have passed for the four friends but they are still the same sassy girls with the same issues and obsessions in the designer gear. Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte seemed like our best friends after six series of the television show and it’s good to catch up with them again. Calendar Girls is another great comedy film with a stellar cast including Julie Walters, Helen Mirren, Penelope Wilton, Annette Crosbie and Celia Imrie and many others. It tells the now famous story of the Rylestone WI ladies who support their friend through the death of her husband from cancer and who rally togther to raise money for the local hospital that cared for him – by posing nude for a calendar. So if your Mum hasn’t already got a copy, Mothers Day is the perfect opportunity to show her what she’s been missing out on.
