Yeah, that credit card trick is a hasbeen. Learned the hard way too. Also the coathanger for the car trick...i think we watch too many movies. When I locked my keys out, the locksmith had a freaking VAN of TOOLS to combat the door.

Yikes...you are so lucky to have such great fam/friends! My son decided to throw my keys FROM MY PURSE when he was a baby and I had to wait at the neighbor's house all night until my husband could get home from work to let me in. Talk about awkward (it was the first time I had even met them!!!). Learned my lesson. Spare keys EVERYWHERE!

That would definitely make putting together a 1 person survival kit much easier. You would think with all the other advances we've had over the years that something like this would be in the works ;) Maybe someday!

I just was at a life coaching class and one of the topics that we talked about was the sabatore...her name is Negative Nellie. I used to just say the negative voice, but decided she needs to have her own name. She will take over and destroy any positive and then leaves when she likes- my words used to tune her out SHUT UP, Just Shut the f-up....so f-ing tired of listening to you and then I will imitate her how annoying she sounds. The only thing that dulls the roar...alcohol, but that was temporary and does not work well with her. So, now I am 2 years sober and take an antidepressant in order to dull the negative. I struggle daily with the voice who wants to be in charge and take me down the dark path.

I think you did very well, and that you've basically found your race pace; you finished both the Shamrock Run and the Race for the Roses in nearly identical times. Of course, for one race you kept a steady pace throughout the course, and for the other you kept up with my faster pace at first and had to rest a bit on the back half; if you just keep the steady pace you'll feel more comfortable, I think.

And thanks for the kudos. I'm pleased with my time; but there's always the negative voice in the back of my mind.

You did awesome Brian! There should be no shame at all. At first I felt like I let myself down also because I had to walk a couple of times in this race, but I know that if I pushed myself to keep running then I wasn't listening to my body say OUCH (very loudly!). I just know I will need to make sure to run some extra before my next race (yes, I will do another one, just not sure the one in May, we have a server deployment that Sunday that I have to be here for).

You have all the tools to figure this out. Stop trying to find the perfect plan (there isn't one) and just get going. :)

Simple things work the best: move more, eat good food, limit indulgences (but enjoy the hell out of them) and be happy.

Define your goal, and work toward that.

Brian, the reason I enjoy what you have to say - on Twitter (where I see you most, I have to admit) & here (when I can get over here) is because you give back twice as much as you get, on average.

haven't heard of Primal diet; have heard of Primal lifestyle: a daylong struggle with hunting & gathering, protection from animals and other Primal neighbors, disease, etc. this is not too far from adopting the Mayan calendar because, omg they were so totally like, you know? (i get very agitated about appropriation of other lifestyles as if anything were that simple. it's not.)

that said, less processing of food, fresh food, simpler preparation is a good thing. preserve the food's integrity. nothing Primal about that. it's just plain common sense. it's why a fresh pear is so amazing, as is grilled salmon with sea salt & pepper, or real ale, freshly brewed tea or coffee, etc. make most of your diet fresh & natural(-ish) and then you have room for the occasional Delicious Foodstuff of Doom.

So how did the run go? :-)
