Changing tracks and goign away from building this up. First step was selling my built up Large to Rowle (cheers fella) and now this immacualte F&F has to go. Comes with headset and seat post clamp. Fork has already been drilled.

Its a 2012 frame and has had a sticker kit on it from new as you can see in the pics. No scratches at all, just a few marks that would probably polish out with enough effort. I've captured all the marks in the pics, a full set is on photobucket.

Chainset advice

Hello forum,

I'm looking to replace the chainset on my, er, LOOK: <a href="https://twitter.com/specialegg/status/474478706157973504"...

Hello forum,

I'm looking to replace the chainset on my, er, LOOK: https://twitter.com/specialegg/statu...78706157973504

As that rather hilarious picture shows you, I have a pretty nasty Shimano Tiagra chainset on it currently. I'm not a big fan of the, er, look, of the Shimano ring.

Anyone got any suggestions for something better? Performance is obviously pretty important but only have as much as, er, the look.

I'm guessing my budget is something around 100.

Cheers!

In early December 2013, I purchased that lovely SMG pista frame, which was going to be my first-ever-very-own-build.
Spotter started this thread - But i think SMG deserves it's very own one, and that I should speak up for myself :-)

Quote:

Originally Posted by spotter (Post 4107914)

Here's a bit more about SMG:

"... SMG was the brand name of the frames made by Jean Frelat, a constructeur, based at Pavillons-sous-Bois, just to the east of Paris. He was very well known in the late 1970s and early 80s, a time when he built quite a lot of frames for leading French amateur riders, on both road and track, who were from that general region of France. He also sponsored several French lady champions such as Isabelle Nicoloso and Valerie Simonet, both of them track riders. Valerie was the French sprint champion in 1981. Jean was quite an innovative builder, being well known for bronze-welded lugless frames and internal routing of all cables....Frelat was very loyal to French suppliers using either Vitus or Camus tubes, rarely Reynolds, and sometimes Columbus as this firm had a greater choice.
I have never seen an explanation of the abbreviation SMG but Sur Mesure Garanti seems very likely as the firm had a reputation for custom frames, particularly very small ones ie 46 and 47 cms with 700 wheels. Frelat was a very good marketing man, and for a few years in the late 70s and early 80s, his frames were seldom out of the columns of the French cycling press. He came up with quite a few ingenious designs particularly for track frames - a discipline in which he sponsored quite a few French champions."

Its kind of cool that's she's ended up with this frame considering their history, its perfect for her.
Here are some more details of the frame and its amazing smoke paint job:

If anyone can shed any light onto what 'CV' stands for that'd be great, Im assuming its the riders name. Also what the eyelet is for on the inside of the dropout is for, best suggestion i've had was a chain tensioner, but its odd that its only on one side.

Slowly getting the build together for this; It came with a Campag Record Pista BB and some mysterious headset (both french threaded).

There was the state of things in late June:

Quote:

Originally Posted by Ecunard (Post 4303467)

Little SMG was transported yesterday from Spotter's where he was stocked to the new Belgian-Head-Quarters south of the river, along with all the bits collected so far.

This includes:
Starfish cranks
NOS Mavic 330 seatpost
Regal
Mavic 520 pista hubs - on the picture laced to Mavic tubular rims, but to be laced to Module E2 argent, not pictured.

Unfortunately, it turned out almost impossible to get hands on 520 Hubs in 32H to match the CPX12 rims I already found, so sadly won't be able to use them rims for this project.

Next to be found are stem and bars.
I'd love to find this guy (Mavic 370) - Because I find the way it works very sexy. Wow, much explosion, such isometric.

As for bar, I didn't make up my mind just yet.
Now that He's looking at me everyday from his pedestal, it makes it even harder to contain my excitement. So I'll probably go for placeholder stem and bars to ride it as soon as possible.

Today, it's getting so close to being complete.
First of, this happened:

I can hardly describe how excited I am about it. Good find Spotter + Telescope1608 !

I was also treated/spoiled to some Nitto risers

And some little dust caps, all shiny and sweet.

With the very precious help of 36x18, hubs are now unlaced from their previous tubular rims. We measured the rims and hubs and all the spokes have now arrived.
Only waiting for a little bit of time to build those wheels. World premiere for me, thanks again Richard for being so cool + a great teacher.

So next steps:
- wheel building
- cog + lockring
- grips
- pedals

so close, SO CLOSE !

For sale - a lovely 1950's French Vintage Motobecane single speed ladies mixte step-through bicycle in a delightful duck-egg blue.

Having a few problems posting pictures here, so please see the listing I have posted on Gumtree here:

http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/lo...lue/1073433745

This is a really nice period bicycle that has mostly original features, including the original cotterpin cranks and viking chainring, chain-guard, original steel wheels and mudguards and centre-pull front brake, plus side-pull rear brake. It's a very comfortable ride and I am only selling it as I am moving and can sadly only store one bike instead of two now.

The bicycle has its original period leather women's saddle (I think it's nicer than a Brook's) with both embossed Motobecane and brass Sportex logos still visible. And it even has the original rear rack in matching paintwork, so a basket or panniers can easily be fitted.

It has NEW Schwalbe Delta tyres that have not been used very much.

Obviously the bicycle has a lot of appropriate age-related rust-spots that do not really detract from the overall look - it is about 60 years old! The rear light is broken but can be replaced, and the bicycle comes with a nice bell with a lion motif thrown in.

I'm in the Shoreditch/Hoxton/Old Street area if you would like to view the bicycle any time. 200 or nearest offer.

Cheers! Kitty
