In Addition to Batali’s new restaurant the Seaport District is also home to Ming Tsai’s new venture “Blue Dragon”. The intimate 75 seat restaurant which will be opening in the former “A Street Deli” is described as an “Asian Gastropub” with some sample dishes such as Indonesian Curry Shepherds Pie and there version of Fish n Chips with Hacked Peking duck!  Sounds Tasty!  Rumor has it they were denied the 2am licence and given only a 1am which is a bummer for Ming and fellow Restaurant goers.

The 3rd Celebrity is Iron Chef Geoffrey Zakarian.  He is well known for his TV exploits on “Chopped” and  “The Next Iron Chef”, which he won.  He currently owns 2 restaurants in NYC, 1 in New Jersey and is part of “Ocean Blue” which is affiliated with Norwegian Cruise Lines.  His Boston Restaurant is supposed to be similar to his NYC Restaurant “The National”. It should be a high energy spot with great food, great beers and great craft cocktails.

All of these great restaurants are happening in conjunction with Booming residential development, and why not as someone will need to fill these great restaurants up.  319A Street which is currently under construction and will be a 184 unit apartment building and will be directly across the street from “Blue Dragon”. Several other new developments such as Fan Pier, 411 D Street, waterside Place, 49-63 Melcher Street, 381 Congress street are all scheduled to completed in Spring/Summer of 2013 or early 2014 and will be just a short walk to all these great restaurants!.

Anthony’s Pier 4 for decades has been serving up classic New England seafood on the Boston Waterfront. “Anthony’s” opened in 1963 by Anthony Athenas in Boston’s seaport District and was an instant success and in just a few short years became the highest grossing restaurant in the US. In the 1980’s Mr. Athena’s pressed to turn the property into a mixed use development when the Seaport District was largely unused parking lots and industrial land. Mr Athena’s passed away in 2005 at the Age of 93 but the vision he once had looks like it is finally a reality.

Next Month construction will begin on a Massive complex called Pier 4 that will include approximately 1 million square feet of Hotel, Residential & retail that includes a 21 story apartment tower and multiple restaurants. The edge of the parcel that abuts the Harbor where Anthony’s now sits will become a 1 acre public park. The development will happen in 3 phases and Anthony’s will remain open during phase ! and eventually will close when it’s time to build the park. The $195 Million project will include a mix of studios to 3 bedroom apartments as well as underground parking. After the first phase apartment tower is built either an office tower or Hotel will be built and 3rd phase will be a Condominium building and the 1 acre park.

The entire neighborhood is transforming before our eyes as several new restaurants and developments are under way. In 2007 fellow longtime restaurant Jimmy’s Harborside was torn down to build Liberty Wharf which houses the wildly successful Legal Harborside, Del Friscos’s Steakhouse and Temezcal Tequila bar & restaurant. The neighborhood which was a longtime Industrial zone is now becoming a more 24/7 neighborhood where people want to live work & play.

Somerville’s Mayor Joe Curtatone outlined his vision for a new neighborhood and commercial area in Union Square. The project scope could be a $90 million dollar transformation that could potentially add hundreds of new housing units and be a huge boost to the economy which is great news to homeowners and Somerville residents. “Somervision” This ambitious plan still needs to clear 2 hurdles with the board of alderman and the state needing to give approval. The other and more important lynchpinn is the MBTA’s Green Line Extension plan.

Adding public Transportation to these neighborhoods of Sommerville & Medford will drastically improve overall Real Estate Values and make the neighborhoods more desirebale to commuters working in Boston & Cambridge.
