Now here’s an invaluable online tool for any bride who’s struggling with her choice of wedding dress. The Short Wedding Dresses Planner will let you try out a selection of different dresses then see how they look with different accessories including shoes, veil and jewellery. You can even take a look at your finished wedding day look with different hairstyles! How good is that?

You start off with the empty template (below) and then drag and drop the various elements into place until you have designed your ideal wedding day outfit.

The next image shows one I prepared earlier. As you will see, my outfit encapsulates the very essence of a post-modern, academic woman whilst retaining an air of sexuality and mystery. A bridal style that is one part Germaine Greer, two parts Dita Von Teese.

iPhone App for the Wedding Planner

If you’re a wedding planner and you have an iPhone then this App is a ‘must have’.

Wedding Dash is a great way to hone your planning skills whilst travelling in a taxi to the next wedding venue or bridal dress fitting. Since I downloaded it from iTunes I haven’t stopped playing with it and I’m not even a wedding planner!

By helping our put upon planner, Quinn, to organise her friends wedding and deal with the guests, you collect points which add up to, er, well, a lot of points.

I’m still learning using the ‘lite’ version but I have already got up to a score of 1200 which, according to the App, practically makes me a member of UKAWP!

Here’s a simple way to check all the UK wedding venues at a glance. For instance, I can see that the Orangery in Holland Park, The Lansdowne Club, Great Fosters and The RAC Club have all had some snow fall…..

Oh, and Leeds Castle isn’t looking too clever, either.

Samba Dancers in Southampton

Last week I spent an evening at the Southampton Guildhall. I had been asked by a regular client of mine, Red Sky Events, to photograph a corporate Christmas party they had organised. Part of the evening’s entertainment included a group of Samba dancers who were great fun to photograph. I thought I would share some of results with you:

I was really delighted recently when London Wedding Planner Lester Gethings of No.10 Wedding Design and Manangement asked me if I would take some portrait shots of him for PR use.

And so it was, that last Friday we spent the morning in a studio near Wandsworth Bridge eating Gü Chocolate Naughties and capturing Lester in various outfits.

I’ll post some of the great images we captured when they are ready but for now, here’s just one of the photographs I took:

Wedding Florists – Euphoric!

Last week I was lucky enought to spend the morning with my good friends Simon Nickell and Victoria Taberer-Bond at Euphoric Flowers. Although their creative partnership started many years ago they only founded Euphoric in 2005. However, in that time they have established themselves as one of London’s foremost wedding and event florists.

We had an early start at New Covent Garden Market where they were selecting the flowers for their weekend commisions which included a civil partnership at the vast Crystal Room in the Mayfair Hotel in London and an awards ceremony for the British Guild of Travel Writers.

Simon and Victoria are regulars at the market and knew what they needed and where to find it. Before long they were loading their van with Molucella, Orchids, Gladioli and Heliconia.

Then it was back to their workshop in Fulham but not before we enjoyed a fry up in the market cafe!

As you can imagine, the Euphoric Flowers workshop smells divine and, large as it is, the place is full to the brim with exotic flowers, vases of all shapes and sizes and other flowery ephemera.

Apart from working on around 25 weddings a year, the pair find time to supply flower arrangements for the Marcus Wareing restaurant at the Berkeley Hotel, Pronovias and LSA International. They are also the approved florists at London Zoo.

As regular readers of my blog will remember, Euphoric Flowers designed the floral arrangements for the wedding I photographed at Great Fosters Hotel back in the summer.

I would suggest that the secret to Simon and Victoria’s success is the great working relationship they enjoy and the passion they both display in their work.

Wedding at Rowhill Grange

On Saturday I was at Rowhill Grange Hotel on the outskirts of London to photograph the wedding of Sharry and Eddie. Not only was the wedding ceremony held at the hotel but the wedding reception too so Sharry, her three bridesdmaids and her Mum all prepared in a room there.

Sharry’s chief bridesmaid Jo was a familiar face as I had photographed her wedding in Cornwall a couple of years ago.

Although it had been raining in the morning by the time we all came out of the wedding ceremony the weather had dried up and there was even some blue sky poking through.

The bride and groom had first met when Eddie attended one Sharry’s Salsa classes so it was fitting that their first dance was to a Salsa mix of Better Together by Jack Johnson.

Wedding at One Whitehall Place – London

Another gorgeous day in London and another fun wedding. Jessica and Paul first met at Uni and 12 years later here they are getting married!
I started the day with the bride at her parents house in Kent. Once she had finished getting ready, with the help of her five bridesmaids, we all set off in a gorgeous red 1950’s bus and headed up to Westminster for the wedding ceremony.

The wedding ceremony and the wedding reception were held at One Whitehall Place, one of London’s grander wedding venues. On arrival in we encountered a small hitch; the road leading to the venue was closed off because of the presence of one of the biggest cranes you are likely to see. So, we all disembarked around 100 yards down the street and the girls, pulling their overnight bags behind them, made their way to the wedding. As you can see from the photograph a group of workman looked on with interest (but not enough interest to help with the bags!).
Jessica didn’t grumble though, she just picked up her dress and marched on in her siver ‘LK Bennets’.

During the ceremony there were two readings. One of them, a poem called ‘The Invitation’, was particularly touching and you can read it on the web site of the author, Oriah Mountain Dreamer.

After drinks on a terrace that over looks Embankment the wedding breakfast was served upstairs in the Library and followed by a night of dancing.

The newlyweds are now off on a 3½ week honeymoon taking in various destinations including Las Vegas and Hawaii!

Wedding in West London – Kew Gardens

Lucy and Charlie were married in the Rossetti Room at Chelsea Register Office at 2pm. The weather in London was beautiful with temperatures in to the 20’s and a warm, late summer, sun putting a smile on everybodies face. Perfect weather for a wedding!

The Rossetti Room (named after the local Victorian artist, Dante Rossetti) was the perfect setting for the Bride and Groom and their twelve guests. There was a Stevie Wonder theme in the music chosen for the wedding ceremony; the Bride walked in with her Father to ‘I was born to Love Her’; as the marriage certificate was signed ‘Signed, Sealed, Delivered’ was played (natch!) and as the newlyweds left the ceremony room we could hear the uplifting ‘For Once In My Life’.

We then drove out to the suburbs of West London for the wedding reception at Cambridge Cottage which sits on the edge of Kew Gardens. Before a further forty or so guests arrived I was lucky enough to take the Bride and Groom for a walk around the gardens where we got some fabulous shots in the late afternoon light. Lucy looked gorgeous in her Vera Wang dress and Jimmy Choo shoes and she was wearing a fluffy throw that I couldn’t stop stroking (is that wrong?).

The wedding now over, the happy couple are off for a short break in Paris with a longer honeymoon planned for the New Year.

Bridal Shoes – my recommendations!

It seems a shame to hide a funky pair of shoes under a long wedding dress so for next season I’ll be suggesting a hem line just above the knee.
