Well it’s a fresh new year…and we wish you and all the little ones in your lives all the best for 2010!

Tutu Bars’ first year (2009) surpassed our expectations. We learned many parents want a healthier snack for their babies and toddlers. We are so grateful for all the support from our loyal customers, full size and half pints :-) Thank you all for trying, buying and sharing Tutu Bars.

Rachel and I have big plans for Tutu Bars in 2010. So big in fact that we will be limiting our sales to special orders while we make things happen. We look forward to sharing new, exciting news from Tutu Bars with you soon!

In the mean time, your suggestions, questions or ideas for Tutu Bars are always appreciated!

Have a happy and safe Hallowe’en everyone! Make sure to keep your little ones warm and brightly lit (glowsticks/bracelets from the dollar store are good!). And when they come down off their sugar high, don’t forget the healthy snack alternative in Tutu Bars.

Sorry we’re a little hard to get to at the moment, but we are working on growth so that we can sell at more retail locations. Got feedback on the ABC’s of Tutu Bars?

I must say how delightfully surprised I am about the successful launch of Little Tree Foods and the Tutu Bar. We thought this summer was going to be quiet, full of grassroots promotion and market research. What we discovered is that there are a lot of like-minded health-conscious parents (well, people in general) that are looking for nutritious snacks for their children and themselves. We’ve had an array of people try and like the Tutu Bar and for what LTF stands for. We are truly inspired to continue what we have set out to do.

LTF received some wonderful kind words from Westcoast Families and YoYo Mama this summer for which we are thankful. It brought about a lot of special orders and a few "sell-out" market dates and at Beans. We hope that you have enjoyed the ABC’s (applesauce, banana and carrot) of Tutu Bars. Over the fall, we will work on tweaking the recipes and improving them with many of the great suggestions that we have gotten. If you have any feedback about the ABC’s, please email us and let us know… whether it is a consistency, new flavour or ingredient change. We are always willing to give everything a try.

Many of you have been asking and YES! we are currently working on some new products – almost ready for testing. One of them being a chocolate zucchini "two-bite brownie". I affectionately call them the Nani Brownie but they don’t have an official name yet. Another product is a pumpkin mini cinnamon roll. If you have any suggestions, please throw them our way. Over the fall, we hope to broaden our product line by doing a lot of testing and research!

Only 2 more Coquitlam markets to go so stock up now for the school year. Did we mention that Tutu Bars freeze really well? What to do over the fall when you are jonesing for a Tutu Bar? Visit Beans or email us for a special order. We will gladly ship or hand-deliver.

LTF gets some press!

Lindsey and I are excited to say that Tutu Bars were chosen by West Coast Families magazine as a “Back-to-School-must-have”. At yesterday’s farmer’s market, I had a lady rush over to check out Tutu Bars because she had read about them in the magazine. How exciting! Thank you to Anya of West Coast Families and Jen Glen for passing along the product for giving Little Tree Foods it’s first official press. There’s no turning back now!

More exciting news from yesterday’s Farmer’s Market – we introduced carrot and banana to the market and we completely sold out of all bags halfway through the day! It was an extremely busy day at the market with the yummy blueberry pancake breakfast. That plus the plug in WCF made the most successful market to date. I had a great time talking to people and giving out samples of all three Tutu Bars. We’ll be back in Coquitlam next Sunday on August 16 so come early to get your original, banana or carrot Tutu Bars.

Did you know Tutu Bars have no trans fat?

So my Mum, the dietitian, thought it really important that we confirm that Tutu Bars are made with NON-HYDROGENATED margerine. That is important because it means that Tutu Bars have NO TRANS FATS, so you can feel good giving them to your babies and toddlers (or eating them yourself!)

Our current labels do not list non-hydrogenated margerine, but rest assured we only use this type and our next label run will be sure to list it for your peace of mind. Feel good kid food absolutely must have no trans fat!

Little Tree Foods makes it Vancouver debut

Some people ask why we chose to go to Coquitlam and Ambleside. Seems random, doesn’t it? We chose Coquitlam because it’s a nice market with lots of families and very close to my place. We chose Ambleside because it was a market with lots of families and grandparents that was closer to Lindsey’s place. Trout Lake and Kitsilano are two markets that we would have loved to go to but both were not accepting new packaged goods vendors so we were out of luck of getting Tutu Bars into Vancouver. Until I got an email…

This Saturday, LTF will be at a Family Fun Day at Cambrian Hall (17th & Main) from 11am – 2pm. This event is raising funds for the Autism Society of BC and will include entertainment, toy swap, games and great vendors like us! So, if you want to come by and say hi while we are in your area of town, please come down. I’d love to see you and get your feedback.

LTF goes retail!!!

We are so excited to announce that Little Tree Foods has its first official retail distributor – Beans Coffee and Tea on Cambie St. between 17th Ave. and 18th Ave. Vancouver Mums now have a great place that they can go meet friends, enjoy their lattes and pick up some yummy Tutu Bars! Original spelt is available at Beans right now. Other flavours can be ordered through our website and picked up at Beans if it’s more convenient for you. Go visit Beans and say hi to Caroline, Linden and Ben and tell them thanks for supporting local, wholesome food for kids!

Ready to Bake

I have to start my blog by thanking my amazing, visionary and incredibly hard working partner Rachel. She has done ALL the baking for the launch of the Tutu Bar. Why would that inequitable partnership be arranged? Well…because I needed a mixer.

We discovered fairly early on that a food processor does NOT make a good Tutu Bar. It grinds everything up too finely and you can’t see all the whole grain goodness. Our quality control would not allow my food processor batches through

But now…I am ready to bake! Thanks to my great sister and brother in law, we got a great deal on a Kitchen Aid Mixer. I am ready to take on my share of the baking for the next Farmers Market, July 5th! Hope to see you all there!
