I haven't really explored NightCafe's free online AI Art Generator (https://creator.nightcafe.studio/) tool yet. I have only done some preliminary tinkering around with it but, I have to say, I'm more impressed with the results than I anticipated considering how little effort it took. I can see tools like this in the hands of skilled people impacting at least Etsy-level craft.

Writing my first LGF page to learn about your thoughts on the subject matter and also to hear from you on which piece that I generated is your favorite. I started with a photo I took of my wife in Zion National Park (not actually Many Pools but a "secret" slot canyon area less than a mile off of UT9 - I'm willing to give directions to the "secret" area to any who ask) and then blended with one of NightCafe's art style inputs.

PHILADELPHIA – United States Attorney Jacqueline C. Romero announced that Mark Houck, 48, of Kintnersville, PA, was charged by Indictment with a violation of the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances (FACE) Act, which makes it a federal crime to use force with the intent to injure, intimidate, and interfere with anyone because that person is a provider of reproductive health care. The defendant was arrested and made his initial appearance in federal court on these charges earlier today.

According to court documents, the defendant is alleged to have twice assaulted a man because he was a volunteer reproductive health care clinic escort. The charges stem from two separate incidents both on October 13, 2021, which occurred at the Planned Parenthood Elizabeth Blackwell Health Center on Locust Street in Philadelphia, where Houck allegedly assaulted the victim, a 72-year-old man, identified in the Indictment as “B.L.,” because B.L. was a volunteer escort at the reproductive health care clinic. In the first incident, B.L. was attempting to escort two patients exiting the clinic, when the defendant forcefully shoved B.L. to the ground. In the second incident, the defendant verbally confronted B.L. and forcefully shoved B.L. to the ground in front of the Planned Parenthood center, causing injuries to B.L. that required medical attention.

“Assault is always a serious offense, and under the FACE Act, if the victim is targeted because of their association with a reproductive healthcare clinic, it is a federal crime,” said U.S. Attorney Romero. “Our Office and the Department of Justice are committed to prosecuting crimes which threaten the safety and rights of all individuals.”

Well, maybe not a leak so much (apparently) this particular multi-level marketing company (Monat, sells shampoo and personal healthcare products) left iself *wide open* on outsiders being able to see/download their data. (I suspect this MLM had this data on AWS and it was just open to the world and being indexed by Google.) Anti-MLM YouTuber Chelsea Suarez somehow got her hands on this data and examined it. What she found is revelatory. Basically the top leaders, the Monat senior executive directors, get a minimum 98% of their compensation from downline commissions, not from their own sales.

Just a little background: Pyramid schemes are illegal, and multi-level marketing companies work hard to keep their outfits on the right side of the VERY HAZY pyramid scheme law. It’s so hazy that people still refer to two rules handed down in the FTC case against Amway in 1979. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_re_Amway_Corp. The two rules are:

• 70 percent rule: 70 percent of sales have to be made to bonafide customers, and not be an example of “front loading” or accumulation of product.
• 10 customer rule:

  in order to obtain the right to earn Performance Bonuses on the volume of products sold by him to his sponsored distributors during a given month, a sponsoring distributor must make not less than one sale at retail to each of ten different customers that month and produce proof of such sales to his sponsor and Direct Distributor.

That said, these rules are not referred to in the FTC’s unofficial business guidance on MLMs https://www.ftc.gov/business-guidance/resources/business-guidance-concerning-multi-level-marketing, nor in recent major regulatory actions. You can feel free to skip this if you want, but the conclusion I got from reviewing these is that when a MLM involves products, it’s harder to call it a pyramid scheme (and that is deliberate). Getting back to Monat, it’s a typical MLM with a pyramid structure of 11 steps from Market Partner to Senior Executive Director. Here’s Monat’s Income Disclosure for your perusal. (They’re required to put this out every year.) https://monatglobal.com/income-disclosure-statement/ It shows that 93.36% of active and inactive Monat distributors are in the “Market Partner” (lowest) rank and that the average annual earnings is $144 dollars.The people being talked about in this video are in the top two ranks, Executive Director and Senior Executive Director.

I’m not going to give a rundown of the video, you can watch it. What it shows is how much the top three ranks are pulling in each month, five and six figures. That’s jaw dropping, but what will have your jaw on the floor is the percentage of personal sales for Senior Executive Directors (a little after minute 24, but watch the entire video). Basically, in January 2021, the top SED (Jacquelyn Ortega) pulled down $317,545.00 in commission, but only 0.01% of that came from personal sales. That works out to $31.75 or thereabouts in commission on personal sales. The rest of it came from her downline.. The highest percentage of personal commission was 2.60% on $122,465.00, or $3,184.00. Granted, these numbers don’t include clawbacks (from returned product), as discussed earlier in the video, but still, these people are making well over 95% of their money off the backs of the people lower in their downline.

Anyway, apparently the data has been shipped off to the FTC and the Florida Attorney General. Why the Florida AG? Because Monat had its “Market Partners” basically signing up some customers on an autoship plan without disclosing the details. Monat settled with the Florida AG in 2020 (news release: http://www.myfloridalegal.com/newsrel.nsf/newsreleases/C91073C6A829AC5285258676005726BD ) There's a legal agreement, but it’s a PDF so I am not putting the link in here. It's easily found on Google.

Maybe, just maybe, we can finally get a ruling that it’s a pyramid scheme if a very, very few at the top are making money off commissions from downline purchases. Maybe. Something to keep our eyes on.

The point here is who opposes us (the democratic west) and who signs on with them. We all know who invaded who. Who annexed Crimea. And Iran chose to help the Russians rather than stay out of it let alone help Ukraine.

Key areas in southern Ukraine came under attack from a number of Iran-supplied Shahed-136 'kamikaze' or 'suicide' drones today. It is by far the most high-profile and concentrated use of these types of weapons by Russian forces. Video evidence also emerged in recent hours showing an Iranian Mohajer-6 medium-altitude, long-endurance (MALE) unmanned aerial vehicle being recovered from the water by Ukrainian forces, serving as the drone’s first recorded sighting on the Ukrainian battlefield.

The evidence of Mohajer-6’s presence was shared by the Southern Air Command of the Ukrainian Air Force. Up until now, only Shahed-136s had been spotted in Ukraine, making it so the recent Mohajer-6 retrieval would confirm that both Iranian drones were included in deliveries from Iran to Russia that had occurred earlier this month.

Majewski presents himself as an Air Force combat veteran who deployed to Afghanistan after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, once describing “tough” conditions including a lack of running water that forced him to go more than 40 days without a shower.

Military documents obtained by The Associated Press through a public records request tell a different story.

They indicate Majewski never deployed to Afghanistan but instead completed a six-month stint helping to load planes at an air base in Qatar, a longtime U.S. ally that is a safe distance from the fighting.

I was introduced to this little corner of the Internet through running posts of my uncle’s, Dangerman. I made an account a couple of months ago knowing full well I would never post on here until I had a race of my own to share. That day has finally come!!

One whole week ago, I moved to Edinburgh to pursue an MSc in Applied Linguistics at the University of Edinburgh. Wahoo!! What better way to get to know my new city than by running 13 miles right on through it? (This is what I thought to myself about 3+ months ago, looking online, seeing a half marathon that fit my schedule & was only about 9ish miles away from my new digs.) I have since learned that 9ish miles outside of Edinburgh is actually not Edinburgh. BUT the run through Musselburgh was beautiful! (Do the names here seem fake to you too?)

It all started back in April when I visited my family in Florida, & as usual, my uncle convinced my sister & I to go for a couple of runs with him. Here’s the thing about me & running, I love to run! I wouldn’t say I’m stellar, but I know my form’s ok, & it just makes me so happy doing it. At the end of the day, we all just want to do the things that make us happy, right? I’ve had issues with shin splints for a really long time, but my uncle convinced me that if I just bought the right shoes, everything would be ok. I have to admit, so far everything’s been ok.

I can’t have this one right side up, I don’t know why. My uncle picked me up from the airport in April. He’s a nice guy.

*I have to side note here for a second. I don’t get to see my family in the states so often, but we’ve gotten ourselves into this routine where I come to south Florida & I run with my uncle & I do strength training with my dad & my little sis. Exercise never used to be a thing I do with the people I love, & now every time I have the opportunity it just makes it all so special. I got to experience this 2 whole times this year (April & August), & I’m all aglow every time I think about it.

Ok now, back to the half! I came back to Tel Aviv at the end of April, & all of the sudden I couldn’t stop running. I was making plans so I could increase my distance. I started listening to podcasts. I started reading books. I was slowly becoming a rambling nightmare to my friends. & then it hit me that I wanted to race.

After talking me out of jumping into a marathon, I found the Scottish Half Marathon, & my uncle came up with a plan! The rest is history. (Don’t worry, I’m about to tell you all about it.)

I was so blown away every time I would tack on another mile to what had previously been my longest distance. Definitely learned a lot about when to run & when not to run in the summer. Lacing up your running shoes at 17:00 in Tel Aviv in July is not the move, my friends. Was a bit challenging trying to persuade my pals to run with me, (am I becoming my uncle?,) but I did enlist a good friend to run one of my long runs with me in Park HaYarkon (our Central Park). (He’s called Josh. He got me through 7 miles. He brought along a speaker & we sang the whole time. It was great. We were very sweaty.)

It was no walk in the park, (pun intended,) but I wasn’t intimidated by the distance until peak week. Weeks 2 & 3 out from the race, I was back in Florida running with my uncle. The first weekend we sailed through an easy breezy 9 miles, no sweat. I was chatting through most of it, I think smiling through most of it. Something horrible happened the next week during our 10 miler, the last long run before the race. I wasn’t having it mentally. I knew I could crush 9 miles, because I’d already done it. I didn’t know how I’d get through that last mile. But I did.

So here’s how it all went down on race day…
Bright & early & bright eyed & bushy tailed, I got on an hour long bus ride to Musselburgh with a pal I found this week also running the race. We then shivered at the start line for…I think close to 2 hours. We were very early & it was freezing. I have yet to run in this country in anything less than a long sleeve shirt & leggings. It’s so cold all the time. After sliding on my uncle’s old sock I’d cut into a wristband to wipe my runny nose throughout the race, I checked my bag & did a little bit of stretching & an awful lot of dancing to keep warm. (I could not stop shaking through my stretches, it was insane.)

After a moment of silence for the queen, (UK, you know,) we were off! I had a blast. We ran through neighborhoods, with residences on their driveways cheering us on & little kids passing out jelly beans. We ran by the sea for a long time, which was beautiful!! We ran through part of the city center, also beautiful. I chose to run without headphones, because I didn’t want to miss out on any of the experience. I was a little nervous, because the only times I’d run without headphones before then was when I ran with my uncle. I’m so glad I was fully present in that experience. It was incredible taking it all in.

I chopped up the race mentally in this way…I set the halfway point at 10 miles. I knew 10 miles I had in the bag. I knew my brain was going to get in the way after that. The last mile of any run, landing is assured. You’ve already done the work. What’s one more mile? That’s what my uncle tells me. Really, it was just miles 11 & 12 I was worried about. & when you put it like that, what’s 2 more miles? I run 2 miles all the time. This logic mostly worked. I would also like to give a special thanks to the man at mile 11.5 screaming “You got this!” “It’s all in the bag now!”

& now here we are.

A lot of things are happening in my life right now that were dreams for a very long time — school, running a half marathon. Actually, today I finally changed the file names on my desktop. I had written “The Dream,” that was the file for grad school, & “The Dream — Part 2,” that was running. Now they just have regular old file names, because they’re no longer dreams, they’re my reality. Putting your mind to something is pretty cool, huh?

Okay, buckle up kids. There is venting ahead.

This isn’t an article containing factual, unbiased reporting. It’s an opinion piece. And my opinion is that Ron Desantis and Greg Abbott are two awful, wretched excuses for human beings.

On September 15, 2022, these two men sent groups of illegal immigrants to Martha’s Vineyard and Kamala Harris’ Washington D.C. residence for what amounts to little more than a cheap political stunt. And they absolutely wasted real money that could have been better spent elsewhere to do this.

Before we go any further, here’s what you need to know: I am an immigrant. A legal immigrant. I came to the United States from Canada in 2008 and became a naturalized U.S. Citizen in 2021. While I am certain my lighter skin tone made my experience considerably easier than those of other migrants, I have felt the fear of being deported because something on the paperwork got screwed up. I have had to deal with the uncertainty of establishing a new life for oneself in an unfamiliar place. I know what it is to feel like you will never truly “belong” in the United States.

That said, let’s discuss this bull---- “immigration theater” thing Abbott and Desantis are currently up to.

I’ve heard some of the arguments that it’s actually good for these people that they are being transported to blue states because it means they will be more readily accepted by the locals and be in less danger than if they were living under the regressive and discriminatory policies that permeate much of the American South. And I’m sure for some of these people, it will be good. Especially those who may have family in northern states who can help them.

But I believe for many of them, ending up in D.C. and Massachusetts may be just as (or even more) of a challenge than if they ended up in Florida or Texas.
Beside, no matter where they end up, they still have to start from scratch. And that’s never an easy thing to do.

The main problem is this: Regardless of how being taken to northern states works out for these people, it is ETHICALLY AND MORALLY WRONG to use human beings as political props. Of course, this has been done throughout history and will continue to be done throughout history, but it’s still wrong.

And then there’s the fact these people were LIED TO about where they were going, why they were going there and what would happen to them when they got there. On top of that, the people behind this depraved stunt did not bother to call ANY official entities in either D.C. or Massachusetts to let them know what was happening. The migrants were also deprived of needed medical care. That is absolutely cruel and reckless.

Let’s not mince words here: To the Conservatives who were behind this, these migrants are disposable, expendable people they do not give one solitary ---- about. Instead of being appalled at this like any sane human being would be, they are laughing, high-fiving each other and lining up to get their faces on Fox News so they can gloat about “owning the Libs”. And make no mistake: They are not going to stop with just these few plane loads of people. More are coming.

This kind of thing should NEVER HAPPEN IN AMERICA. I am aware immigration is complicated. I am aware taking care of migrants requires careful co-ordination between multiple interests. I am aware the immigration system in America is in need of repair.

But that is absolutely NOT an acceptable reason to use deceitful means to round up a bunch of people (most of whom are probably decent folks seeking a new life in this country and not criminals or rapists as the Conservatives would love to have you believe) and drop them off in some strange place just to try and piss off the folks who live there.

There’s never a good reason for that. PERIOD.

Not in any respectable, functioning society.

I believe the American spirit is still alive. I believe there are good people in this country. I believe most of us are better than this.

But I also believe the people behind this heinous stunt will never change.

And they should face consequences (at the ballot box and elsewhere) for what they have done.

There is a strong belief in Western culture that individual success is the result of personal attributes, most notably talent, intelligence, skill, perseverance, risk-taking, and old-fashioned hard work. As a result, we tend to place very successful people on pedestals. Not only do they bask in public admiration, but they are also more likely to be given additional honors, government grants, and professional opportunities. What's often ignored is the role of luck in determining individual success, although that element has been receiving a bit more attention in recent years.

These Ig Nobel-winning authors noted in their 2018 paper that the qualities most often cited as leading to great success follow a normal Gaussian distribution around a mean. The average IQ is 100, for example, but nobody boasts an IQ of 1,000 or 10,000. "The same holds for efforts, as measured by hours worked," the authors wrote. "Someone works more hours than the average and someone less, but nobody works a billion times more hours than anybody else." However, the distribution of wealth follows a power law, with lots of poor people and a few hugely wealthy billionaires. This, the authors contend, "suggests that some hidden ingredient is at work behind the scenes."

That hidden ingredient, they concluded, is random luck, based on the simple agent-based model the authors developed for this study. It's not that talent, intelligence, hard work, and the like don't matter. It's just that many highly talented, intelligent, and hard-working people are frequently surpassed by far more mediocre folks, according to the usual measures of success (fame, wealth). Differences in education and income levels also matter when it comes to the likelihood of success. So the "naive meritocracy" that's so pervasive in Western culture essentially switches cause and effect. Talent and hard work alone won't be enough if you aren't lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time.

ST. ANN, Mo. - A patrol officer spotted a white minivan with an expired license plate, flipped on his lights and siren, and when the driver failed to stop, gave chase. The driver fled in rush-hour traffic at speeds of up to 90 mph, as other officers joined in the pursuit. Ten miles later, the van slammed into a green Toyota Camry, leaving its 55-year-old driver, Brent Cox, permanently disabled.

That 2017 police chase was at the time the latest in a long line of questionable vehicle pursuits by officers of the St. Ann Police Department. Eleven people had been injured in 19 crashes during high-speed pursuits over the two prior years. If you weren’t already indoctrinated on this stuff, and most people reading this probably haven’t thought much about the Federal Reserve at all, you wouldn’t necessarily think, “Oh, yeah, one agency moving interest rates up and down, that’s the way to manage the entire complex 21st-century economy, rather than using many tools and many different specialties to do that job.” It’s kind of a crazy idea if you haven’t been absorbed in a world that takes that for granted.

President Joseph Biden has ordered the US Flag to be flown at half-staff as a mark of respect for Queen Elizabeth II, monarch of the United Kingdom. She was immediately succeeded by her son Charles, who is now styled King Charles III.

President Biden noted the steadfast commitment to democracy and human rights in the post-WW2 order, as she guided the United Kingdom from an empire to a nation amongst equals in a commonwealth.

The British Broadcasting Company has a substantial obituary on the death of the monarch of the United Kingdom and head of state of fifteen other nations. Queen Elizabeth II had the longest reign in the history of the United Kingdom, and was the longest-serving female head-of-state of any nation in history.

The flag is to remain at half-staff until sunset on the day of her interment. That date is not announced, but plans released to the British press by the Royal Household a few years ago indicated that period would be about ten days.

Queen Elizabeth II was the only British monarch to speak before a joint session of the US Congress.

The flag has been lowered for foreign dignitaries before. In recent history the flag was lowered a remark of respect at the deaths of Pope John Paul II and Nelson Mandela.

The Federal Communications Commission has a plan to minimize space junk by requiring low Earth orbit (LEO) satellites to be disposed no more than five years after being taken out of service.

A proposal released yesterday by FCC Chairwoman Jessica Rosenworcel would adopt "a first-ever rule requiring non-geostationary satellite operators to deorbit their satellites after the end of their operations to minimize the risk of collisions that would create debris." It's scheduled for an FCC vote on September 29.

The five-year rule would be legally binding, unlike the current 25-year standard that's based on a NASA recommendation proposed in the 1990s.

"Currently, it is recommended that operators with objects in LEO ensure that their spacecraft are either removed from orbit immediately post-mission or left in an orbit that will decay and re-enter Earth's atmosphere within no more than 25 years to mitigate the creation of more orbital debris. However, we believe it is no longer sustainable to leave satellites in LEO to deorbit over decades," the FCC proposal said.

Democracy: it was older and more widespread than we thought.

At the Oconee site, called Cold Springs, artifacts were excavated before the valley became an aquatic playground. Now, new older-than-expected radiocarbon dates for those museum-held finds push back the origin of democratic institutions in the Americas several centuries, a team led by archaeologist Victor Thompson of the University of Georgia in Athens reported May 18 in American Antiquity.

Institutions such as these highlight a growing realization among archaeologists that early innovations in democratic rule emerged independently in many parts of the world. In specific, these findings add to evidence that Native American institutions devoted to promoting broad participation in political decisions emerged in various regions, including what’s now Canada, the United States and Mexico, long before 18th century Europeans took up the cause of democratic rule by the people.

“By deploying advanced small reactors on floating power stations, we can provide clean local power to small grids powering communities with heating and cooling, providing reliable lighting, and enabling clean charging of electric vehicles. Floating power also means immunity from earthquakes, tsunamis, and volcanoes, which may otherwise destroy conventional power sources on land,” the company has said.

The NEUP funding “will allow detailed collaborative research into the economic and environmental benefits of floating advanced nuclear power generation and take a granular look at all aspects of building, operating, maintaining, and decommissioning such facilities,” CORE POWER said in a statement.

The funding for CORE POWER’s research is at least partly tied to a hydrogen hub initiative the DOE is facilitating. On June 6, the DOE released a Notice of Intent to fund the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s $8 billion program to develop regional clean hydrogen hubs across America. It said “H2Hubs will create networks of hydrogen producers, consumers, and local connective infrastructure to accelerate the use of hydrogen as a clean energy carrier.”

If you want to build an EV with better range, slapping in a larger battery to provide that range is not necessarily the solution. You would then have to increase the size of the brakes to make them capable of stopping the heavier car, and because of the bigger brakes you now need bigger wheels, and the weight of all those items would require a stronger structure. This is what car designers call the “weight spiral,” and the problem with batteries is that they require you to lug around dead weight just to power the vehicle.

But what if you could integrate the battery into the structure of the car so that the cells could serve the dual purpose of powering the vehicle and serving as its skeleton? That is exactly what Tesla and Chinese companies such as BYD and CATL are working on. The new structural designs coming out of these companies stand to not only change the way EVs are produced but increase vehicle ranges while decreasing manufacturing costs.

Toronto-based guitarist and singer/songwriter Jeff Gunn dazzles with his signature wizardry on an instrumental track that exudes a mystical sonic energy with his latest single, “Angelicus.”
