Third Grade Concert-Feb.10

Please join us for the third grade Winter Concert on Wednesday, February 10th. Students must arrive at 6:30 p.m. and may enter through the gym doors. Students may proceed directly to their classrooms. Parents and guest may wait in the gym for the 7 p.m. performance. It should be a rockin’ good time! One School, One Book

The Lincoln School community is reading The Year of Billy Miller by Kevin Henkes starting February 8 through March 4. Check the Google Calendar for the chapter being read as a family each night. The goal of this program is for students to experience the joys of reading with friends and family. Thanks to the PTA for purchasing the books.

“Soup”er Bowl Celebration

February 1-5 – Bring your favorite can of soup to donate to the Rutherford Food Pantry during the week. Students can place their can on the side of the team they think will win Super Bowl 50 on February 7^th. The Pantry has over 175 Rutherford households registered to receive services; totaling more than 365 persons. Thank you in advance for helping our community. No matter who wins Super Bowl 50, we all can be winners!

Character of the Month

This month Lincoln School is focusing on the hard character trait- Forgiveness. The act of forgiveness requires forgiveness for others, and sometimes you must forgive yourself. When you choose to forgive, the barriers are torn down, and the record is wiped clean. We teach our children to say, “I am sorry,” “I was wrong,” “Will you please forgive me?” The important phrase here being Will you please forgive me? When we just say sorry we are carrying the conversation, we are dealing with our guilt and our need to say sorry. But, we are not inviting the other person to deal with their feelings; their hurt and their offering forgiveness. Admitting that you were wrong is a very exposing thing to do – not easy – but once again if we are sincere in healing relationships we have to bear all and be open towards others.

Emergency Closing Information

As we begin the winter season it is helpful to review the information below. Also please take this time to inform the office of any number changes and make sure there are some local emergency contacts available in case of an emergency.

EARLY DISMISSAL DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER: In the event that a decision is made to close school early prior to the start of the day because of inclement weather, dismissal will be as follows:

Grades 1–3 – 12:30 p.m.
No lunch will be provided on early dismissal days.

Please note the YMCA does not run its afternoon program on emergency closing days and students must be picked-up at the end of their day. Morning care is held during its regular times.

DELAYED OPENING DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER: The following procedure will be used for delayed openings:

Grades 1-3 students will attend from 10:40 a.m. to 3:05 p.m.
No lunch period will be provided.
Students should bring a large snack.

There is no before school care, but the YMCA does have after school care on these days.

HOW DO I FIND OUT ABOUT SCHOOL CLOSINGS, DELAYED OPENINGS, AND EARLY DISMISSALS?

The Connect5 System will be activated. If there is a block on your phone, the call will not go through. (See Below- Connect5)

Announcements are also made on the TV, channel – News 12 NJ
Call 201-438-7675. If the schools have a delayed opening or closure, a prerecorded message will come on and state needed information. If there are no changes to the day, the usual message will be heard.
