It’s beautiful here, I love my life here, and I don’t really want to leave.

When I first moved back in July 2007, having spent four years at uni in Plymouth, then a winter in India and Sri Lanka, and then a year in Sheffield doing a journalism post-grad, I couldn’t wait to get back to be surrounded by green hills and the beaches I love.

But now, nearly two years down the line, I find myself on the move once again, away from my beloved North Devon coastline, my family, friends, colleagues and the Marisco.

And I’m not sure how it’s going to pan out.

I’ve chosen my career over my love of the shire, and I’m scared I may have made a deranged mistake.

When I was in Sheffield I was back pretty much every weekend to surf — but I was a student then, I’m not sure I’ll be able to keep driving back here to surf now I’m a fully fledged adult with a proper grown-up job.

I may have to find new waves, and new friends and a new Marisco…

This blog will document my flying from the nest, my quest for waves to rival Croyde and Lynmouth, and ultimately to find a nightclub as tolerant as the Marisco.
Watch this space.
